Welcome to a Sunday Funday edition of the Sweet Spot here at WinDaily Sports. The action has been hot in the MLB as we’ve seen some teams put up crooked numbers of late starting with the Rays eighteen run performance last night. As we inch closer to football, the opportunities to strike in baseball are still prevalent. Let’s use our season long research and knowledge to get some green screens today!
As a reminder, this article will focus on Pitchers, from aces to value, and Hitters, from team stacks to studs to value plays. Prop bets are provided in the Gophers and Gas article.
There are many tools available, but I hope you’re using the Win Daily Projection Model as that has been very helpful in rostering key players each night.
For DFS, the featured card today begins at 1:35 pm with 9 games on the slate. All DFS plays below will come from those 9 games and any later games will be captured in Discord.
PITCHERS – DRAFTKINGS
CLASSIC SLATE – 1:35 PM Start
MAX SCHERZER ($11,000 DK)
Scherzer pitched the best game of his season in his last outing. In that game, he allowed just one hit and struck out 11 Angels on his was to a 40.6 DK point outing. Since coming over to Texas, Max is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA.
Today he gets to face the Brewers who are 28th in batting average and 25th in ISO and wOBA on the season. This is another quality matchup for the pitcher with a newly acquired lease on baseball life and I expect him to continue to shine in his new threads.
MAX FRIED ($9900 DK)
Fried had a decent outing in his last start against the Yankees. He was able to pitch a quality start but his fantasy numbers were down due to him striking out just 2 batters. Today, he gets to face the San Francisco Giants who can be very accommodating to pitchers strikeout totals. On the season they have a 25.5% K rate versus LHP’s which is the 5th highest in baseball. They also bat just 0.244 against lefties putting them in the bottom 8 of the league.
Fried saw SF once last season and went 7 innings allowing just 1 ER. As for his current numbers, his 2.54 ERA is met with a 2.07 FIP making him a candidate for upcoming positive regression. In all, this is a pitcher starting to get primed for the playoffs versus a team that isn’t much of a threat at the plate.
HUNTER GREENE ($9000 DK)
The Reds flamethrower returns today from a stint on the 60-day DL. He threw four rehab starts in the minors and dominated hitters down there leaving no concern to his health status. Greene does return against one of the tougher lineups in the majors in the Blue Jays. However, over the past 10 days the Jays are batting just 0.220 which is 28th in baseball. Injuries throughout the lineup have forced them to start replacement players making their lineup much more palatable to attack. Plus down years from Vlad and Springer have also hurt their overall productivity.
The other good news is the Jays are striking out at a 23.6% clip of late. They are typically one of the harder teams to strikeout and have a seasonal rate of just 21.2%. So the backup players have attributed to more K’s in the lineup which is another reason to take a shot on Greene today.
KOOL-AIDE MAN (SWEET SPOT VALUE PITCHER UNDER $7K)
DAKOTA HUDSON ($6800 DK)
This is a tough group of pitchers in the value range today. So I’ll hone in on what I think is the best matchup to attack. While Pittsburgh would be the team of choice to fade, I can’t in anyway put my faith in Dallas Keuchel. Therefore, I jump over to the Mets and look at Dakota Hudson. The Mets have hit better of late but are still in the middle of the pack in recent offensive categories (0.253 batting average and 0.344 OBP). Hudson has settled in and won his last 3 outings. He’s pitching for a spot in the rotation next season and has been able to turn in 2 quality starts in those last 3 outings. So out of all that’s hear, Hudson looks like the standout in an ocean full of trash. Tread carefully here today.
BONUS PICKS
I do like LOGAN ALLEN ($8800 DK) and NICK PIVETTA ($8200 DK) today.
HITTERS – DRAFTKINGS
CLASSIC SLATE – 1:35 PM
SWEET SPOT STACK ATTACK: The stacks I like today are the CARDINALS (vs. NYM), the BRAVES (vs SFG), the CUBS (vs. Kansas City), the ASTROS (vs. Seattle), and the PIRATES (vs. Minnesota).
CORE BATTERS
JOSE ALTUVE ($6300 DK)
The Astros 2B reached a career milestone last night becoming the third player in franchise history with 2000 hits. And they’ll need more of that today as Houston tries to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Mariners. Good news is they face a rookie pitcher who just allowed 5 runs in Emerson Hancock. I like Houston’s bats to wake up today and Altuve to be a factor in their offensive outburst. Plus he’s batting 0.500 in the past 10 days which is the best in the MLB.
For stacking, I like KYLE TUCKER, YORDAN ALVAREZ, ALEX BREGMAN and CHAS MCCORMICK.
NICO HOERNER ($5400 DK)
From one 2B to another, if not stacking Houston we should look at the Cubs against Jordan Lyles. Lyles is 3-13 with a 6.31 ERA. The hottest Cubs hitter is Nico Hoerner who is batting 0.440 over the past 10 days. He has hits in 9 of his last 10 and has averaged over 11 DK points in that stretch.
For stacking, I like CHRIS MOREL, MIKE TAUCHMAN, CODY BELLINGER, DANSBY SWANSON and JEIMER CANDELARIO.
SLAP HITTER (SWEET SPOT VALUE BATTER) – LESS THAN $3K
LIOVER PEGUERO ($3000 DK)
We need to attack Twins SP Dallas Keuchel in one way or another. On the value end is Peguero who has 6 hits and 2 home runs in the past week. I also like C Jason Delay if he starts today. In his last two games he’s averaged 13.5 DK points.
