The 361 days I was counting after the ’23 Masters has almost ended. It’s time for the greatest test of a golfer in the best major of the year on the toughest course, The 2024 Masters. We have the world’s greatest golfers, (and LIV golfers too) challenging each other over a beast of a course for 4 days starting Thursday. DFS golf is a sincere tough test as well, you challenge thousands for supremacy and riches. The Masters Ownership Projections are dedicated to making you a smarter and wealthier DFS player.
Win Daily Sports’ golf team works tirelessly to bring you the best intel. The Masters Ownership Projections allow you to pivot to lower owned players, find those hidden leverage gems and drive your teams to the top of multiple formats.
Courses and Horses
This course has hills you could ski down and greens that would make the Alpine carnival ride look like the Bonneville Salt Flats. Keys this week will be par 4 & 5 scoring, approach over 200, scrambling and putting. Basically having the skills to use every club in your bag. We can rule out many players based on previous stats that probably have no chance of winning. With regards to the highly regarded Mr. Hunt, who has picked the winner from our smaller group since 2012.
LIV players who won’t win The Masters: Mickelson, Oleson, Schwartzel, Cam Smith and Watson. NOTE: Phil 2nd last year, Reed 4th.
Amateurs and 1st timers. There have been 3 first time/ non pro winners. One was 44 years ago. The other two were 90 years ago when the Masters first started. Aberg, Bhataia, Clark, Cole, Dunlap, Eckroat, Hisatune, Hodges, Hojgaard, Jaeger, Knapp, Malnati, McCarthy, Murray, Pavon, and Schenk. Amateurs include De La Fuente, Hagestad, Lamprecht, Shipley and Stubbs. My choice for top amateur is Lamprecht. Aberg and Cole should have a good tourney even if they come up a little short.
Dusty former champs with no shot: Couples, Olazabal, Singh, Weir, Willett and Woods*. (*my heart says he should, the metrics say nah)
Anyone missing the cut at Valero: B An, English, Fowler, Fox, Z Johnson, Tom Kim, EVR and Villegas
Players who have never made the cut at Augusta: Kitayama. Meronk
The only short hitter to win the Masters was Z Johnson in ’07. He played in 40 degree temps and 35 + MPH winds which negated all par 5s. The following short hitters probably wont cut it. Poston, Rose, Straka, Morikawa, Lowry, Kirk, Si Woo Kim, Harman, Grillo, Glover and Conners. (Lowry and Morikawa have the best shot at a good week).
Augusta dislikes low ball flight trajectory. The best finish ever by a low flight golfer was a 29th by Si Woo. Players with the lowest golf flight: Fitzpatrick, Sungjae IM, Justin Thomas,J. Niemann and Luke List.( I like Niemann the best from this group).
Poorest approach from 175-225 or longer: Cantlay, Day, Davis, Fleetwood, Henley, Homa, McIlroy, Spieth* and Taylor. (Spieth finished 4th last year due to his scrambling, ARG, and a keen knowledge of Augusta- I like him even though he’s a definite risk).
The 22 players of whom 1 should win this year: Bradley, Burns, Bryson, Finau, Garcia, Hadwin, Hatton, Hovland, DJ, Koepka, M.W. Lee, Matsuyama, T. Moore, Rahm, Reed, Schauffele, Scheffler, Scott, Theegala, Woodland, Cam Young and Will Zalatoris.
Please note that the players not included could finish 2 3 4 5 6, yet over the last decade plus, number one comes from the above list. (It cuts your odds from 1 out of 89 to 1 out of 22, or about 4X better.
I believe Scheffler, Rahm, Niemann, Schauffele, Deki and possibly Finau, Theegala and Bradley along with a riskier Spieth may be at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday late. Let the magic begin!!

***** Parting Shots *****
An American goes to Mexico on business. From his hotel room, he hears the shouting of excited fans from the bullring across the street. That evening, he has a meal in the hotel dining room.
As he is finishing, he notices waiters arriving at a nearby table &, with great dignity, setting before a well-dressed gentleman a huge dish of savory meat & vegetables. The American can smell the alluring dish from where he is sitting.
He summons the maitre d’ & says, “I will be here for a week and tomorrow I’d like to order what that fellow is feasting on. What is it called, may I ask?”
The maitre d’ makes a sorrowful face & explains:
“I am so sorry, senor, but that is a very special dish that we can serve only once per week, after the day of the bullfighting The key ingredient is obtained by special arrangement. It is, mmm…a lavish stew based on the private parts of the slain bull.”
“Oh, what a pity,” said the American. “I’d like to try that. It looks & smells absolutely fabulous.”
Then the guest brightened.
“Say, I’ll still be here for next week’s bullfight. Can I order ahead?”
Again the maitre d’ looked sorrowful.
“Alas, that dish is so popular that we are booked ahead for many months.”
“Well, I have to return to Mexico every few months & can pretty much set my own schedule,” the disappointed gourmet responded. “When is your next available opening?”
The maitre d’ opened a massive calendar book & searched a few moments. An opening was found & scheduled. The happy guest went back to his room, anticipating his return almost a year later.
It seemed forever, but eventually the day came. The American sat at the dining room’s best table & was served all the preliminaries graciously. Finally the coveted entre arrived. It smelled & tasted every bit as delicious as he expected, just like what he had dreamed of for a year. Except for one aspect.
“Thank you, ever so much,” he told the maitre d’. ”This is everything I dreamed of. The flavor, the aroma, the presentation — everything 5-star! I do have one question. Not a complaint. Just wondering. Maybe it’s just my faulty memory, but as I recall, the entre last year looked very much larger.”
The obviously embarrassed maitre d’ shrugged & said:
“Well, senor, sometimes the bull wins.”
As always, I hope to be with you on Sunday afternoon, in the money. You can also come and hang out in the Win Daily Sports Discord Chat to talk it out with everyone before the lock!
