Let’s get ready for a loaded nine-game 4/16 NHL slate with a few huge favorites and quite a few interesting games to target. Full game odds, top lines of the night, best bet, and much more below!

4/16 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

Philadelphia Flyers (+115) at Buffalo Sabres (-135) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Washington Capitals (-270) at Montreal Canadiens (+215) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Maple Leafs (-280) at Ottawa Senators (+225) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Jets (+200) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-250) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (+165) at Dallas Stars (-205) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Carolina Hurricanes (+115) at Colorado Avalanche (-140) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Arizona Coyotes (+360) at Calgary Flames (-475) – 6 Projected Goal Total

New Jersey Devils (+115) at Seattle Kraken (-135) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+160) at Los Angeles Kings (-195) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

4/16 NHL Favorite Lines Per Dollar

Top Line – Toronto One “Auston Matthews ($9,400), Mitchell Marner ($8,400), Michael Bunting ($4,500)”

A common mention here as of late, the Maple Leafs’ top line should be the chalk of the night. They haven’t shown any sign of slowing down their roll as of late. Auston Matthews in particular is a man possessed. The Leafs draw a road matchup with the hapless Senators, entering -280 money line favorites with a 6.5 implied goal total for the game. If salary is an issue, Mitchell Marner is the one I would leave off. Toronto’s top line continues to lead all NHL lines in total goals over the last ten games with strong peripheral stats to support their performance. This is all said, with price and ownership considered heads up, I may fade them in my personal lineup.

Secondary Line – Calgary One “Elias Lindholm ($6,600), Johnny Gaudreau ($7,200), Andrew Mangiapane ($4,000)”

While their game should be on the lower-scoring side “six total”, as whopping -475 money line favorites, the assumption is that it will be Calgary getting most of that six. I don’t know what more to say about Calgary. I considered writing up a Washington line here as they have a strong matchup. As mentioned many times this season in the Hot Shot, they lead all NHL lines for the season in total goals scored by a wide margin. They also usually come in at lower ownership than the likes of a Toronto top line or Colorado top line just for some examples. The switch from Matthew Tkachuk to Andrew Mangiapane allows us a little extra salary saving in order to make other things fit.

4/16 NHL Honorable Mention/Value Line: Dallas One “Jason Robertson ($5,500), Roope Hintz ($5,700), Joe Pavelski ($5,300)”

It is impossible to combine both of the top lines mentioned above. Therefore, here’s a high upside “value” line of sorts that you can use to at least get the better part of one of the lines above tucked in. I wrote them up Thursday in a much tougher matchup hosting the Wild as underdogs. Tonight, they are -205 money line favorites as the low-scoring, boring Sharks come to town. Their 149 SATF “including all shot attempts even missed shots” is second in the NHL over the last ten games, second only to Edmonton’s top line.

Top Defender

Rasmus Andersson – Calgary Flames – $4,200 – Figure Calgary One is listed above, so here’s some additional correlation. Andersson certainly hasn’t been a prolific scorer but quarterbacks the power-play unit and grabs his fair share of assists. He has a double correlation with the top line and comes in at a fair price.

Top Goalie

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars – $8,100 – Let’s roll with Oettinger here, sticking with the theme of taking someone from a team with a line listed above. The Sharks haven’t been scoring much, the Stars are big home favorites, and Oettinger’s 2.53 GAA and .914 save percentage this season are more than respectable.

4/16 NHL Best Bet

Colorado Avalanche ML (-135) DraftKings/Bet MGM/Ceasars – Both teams have been great all season but at the current odds I think you back the home team, winners of eight straight. Carolina has been relatively average over their last ten and given the Hurricanes took the first matchup 2-0 earlier this season, this seems like where the Avs get their revenge.

We have arrived at the two week mark! There are just two full weeks left in the regular season for NHL. Tonight’s slate is just a two-gamer, so tonight’s Forecheck is going to look a little different. Instead of our traditional article, this will be a game by game breakdown. Let’s find the best NHL DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Slate Notes

Two games makes a tough NHL DFS slate, no doubt about it. You will have to nail it to have success, and there are a couple of approaches. The first approach is an onslaught stack lineup. This approach is where you pick your favorite team and play as many players as possible from the lineup. Be sure to get some exposure to depth players to make your lineup unique.

The second approach is a mini game stack approach, where you pick the highest scoring game and stack it, and fill in with your favorites from the second game. Your goalie will also come from the second game, correlating with those favorites.

As much as possible, you want to still avoid stacking against your goalie in your lineup. Negative correlation is never good, no matter the size of the slate.

If you are uncomfortable playing the two game slate, you can attack the showdown slate using our NHL DFS Showdown Strategy Guide for guidance.

Remember, volatility is a big part of these very small slates, so be sure to play a little lighter than normal, and we do NOT recommend playing cash games tonight. Of course, you could fade such a small and volatile slate, but where’s the fun in that?!

Game 1: New York Islanders @ Montreal Canadiens

Implied Vegas Totals: NYI 3.1 / MON 2.6

Tale of the Tape: The Islanders come into this matchup 2-3 over their last five games, while Montreal is a measly 1-4. Tonight will be an emotional matchup for both sides of this game. On the Islanders’ side, a legend of their franchise, Mike Bossy, passed away today. On the Canadiens’ side of things, Carey Price returns to the crease for the first time in almost two years away from the game. More on that later.

The Islanders are the better team here, and on paper, they should come out of this one with a win. However, they have not been very good on the road, and they are a long shot for a wild card berth in the playoffs. This game is almost meaningless, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value in playing it for NHL DFS purposes.

Montreal could surprise us here and ride an emotional wave to a win. We will definitely want some Habs in our lineups tonight.

Goalie Matchup: Semyon Varlamov (probable) vs. Carey Price (CONFIRMED!!)

There is a lot of importance to the goalie matchup here. Carey Price returns to the Montreal crease tonight after taking time away from the game. This is a massive development, and as a fan of the game, it is SO NICE to see him battle his way back. He was dealing with a ton, and to make a return to the game on home ice is a huge deal! The Montreal crowd will definitely welcome him back with wide open arms tonight, and this should be an emotional game for him.

From a DFS standpoint, it is hard to say how Carey will look tonight. He is worth a shot in a couple of lineups thanks to his raw talent, but who knows how much rust will be there. This is a great time for the Habs to ease him back into normal game play, with their season officially not moving into the postseason.

Varlamov should get the start for the Isles, as they are on a back to back, and Sorokin went last night. Varly has had a rough go of it recently, sporting a whopping 4.58 GAA over his last five games.

Lines to Target

NYI1 – Brock Nelson/Anders Lee/Anthony Beauvillier/Noah Dobson: The Isles’ top line is definitely in play here. The Canadiens don’t do too much in the way of hard matching, so they will have their chances.

MON1 – Nick Suzuki/Cole Caufield/Josh Anderson/Jeff Petry: The same thing goes for this line, as there is not a lot of matching that is done. The top line will see their chances as well, and have a slight advantage tonight.

Others to Consider: MON3, NYI2 are both in play in this game as well, but the top lines should be the ones to shine tonight.

Value

Jake Evans (C)

JG Pageau (W)

Chris Wideman (D)

Rem Pitlick (W)

Alexander Romanov (D)

Game 2: Winnipeg Jets @ Florida Panthers

Implied Vegas Totals: WPG 2.5 / FLA 4.2

Tale of the Tape: This game has a lot more as far as meaning tonight. The Jets essentially have to win out to make the playoffs, as they are in a very tight race in the West. The Jets are also missing a couple of key players on offense, which hurts them, but they will still be playing aggressively. On the other side, the Panthers are vying for the President’s Trophy (most points in the league) and the top spot in the East for the playoffs. They have already clinched a playoff spot.

Look for this game to be a little higher paced than the other game. Winnipeg had a game cancelled the other night and come into this well rested. With their playoff hopes on the line for the next two weeks, they will be playing to win. This game is almost going to have a playoff feel, and frankly, it could go either way. The Jets come in playing .500 hockey, while the Panthers have not lost in their last five games, and have been scoring like crazy. If you can find the value, this is the game to stack.

Goalie Matchup: Connor Hellebuyck (Likely) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (Confirmed)

The goalies in this game have been…well…not great. Both Bob and Helly are sporting a GAA over 3 in their last five games, with Bob being all the way up at 3.71. It will be hard to trust the goalies in this game, and with firepower on either side, this one could get wild. These are your riskier goalies, and Bob probably gets the slight advantage here, but it is hard to trust.

Lines to Target

FLA1 – Aleksander Barkov/Anthony Duclair/Carter Verhaeghe/Ben Chiarot: This top line is almost always in play for the Cats. Tonight is no different, and they will likely be heavily owned.

FLA2 – Sam Bennett/Claude Giroux/Jonathan Huberdeau: On paper, this line has a slightly better matchup than the top line, but they are both in play. Consider a power play look here to blend your exposure.

WPG1 – Pierre-Luc Dubois/Blake Wheeler/Kyle Connor/Josh Morrissey: With the depleted lineup, this is THE line for the Jets. They are going to have tons of ice time and they will be relied upon heavily to carry the offense.

Others to Consider: FLA3, WPG3

Value

Radko Gudas (D)

Brandon Montour (D)

Nate Schmidt (D)

Neal Pionk (D)

Morgan Barron (W)

Anton Lundell (C)

Carter Verhaeghe (W)

After a tiny three-game slate yesterday, the NHL is bouncing back hard with a huge twelve-game Thursday slate. Without any further adieu, let’s get to the analysis!

4/14 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

Ottawa Senators (+235) at Boston Bruins (-300) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Detroit Red Wings (+300) at Carolina Hurricanes (-400)6.5 Projected Goal Total

Washington Capitals (+140) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-160) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

St. Louis Blues (-215) at Buffalo Sabres (+175) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Anaheim Ducks (+300) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-400) – 6 Projected Goal Total

New York Islanders (+140) at Pittsburgh Penguins (-160) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

Edmonton Oilers (-110) at Nashville Predators (-110) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Minnesota Wild (-130) at Dallas Stars (+110) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (-115) at Chicago Blackhawks (-105) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

New Jersey Devils (+280) at Colorado Avalanche (-360) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Vegas Golden Knights (+135) at Calgary Flames (-155) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Arizona Coyotes (+210) at Vancouver Canucks (-265) – 6 Projected Goal Total

4/14 NHL Favorite Lines Per Dollar

Top Line – Colorado One “Nathan MacKinnon ($8,400), Mikko Rantanen ($7,500), Andre Burakovsky ($4,300)

It’s certainly been a disappointing season for the Avalanche’s top line. They have certainly suffered from a combination of injuries at different times. As we speak, Gabriel Landeskog is out, but of the three, he is the skater you would choose to lose. The price savings we get with the inclusion of Andre Burakovsky for over $3,000 less than any other skater on this line allows us to make things work.

This is annually one of the NHL’s top-scoring lines but for 2021-2022, they fall outside the top ten. Nevertheless, Colorado’s top line will have an opportunity to make up for lost time with a sweet matchup tonight despite being on the second night of a back-to-back. The Avalanche are -360 home favorites against the defensively challenged Devils with a 6.5 implied goal total. Expect them to be the chalk of the night, although, on a twelve-game slate, ownership is not that important.

Secondary Line – St. Louis One “Pavel Buchnevich ($6,000), Robert Thomas ($5,400), Vladimir Tarasenko ($6,900)”

This line hasn’t gotten much love in the article this season but they are red hot right now. Their tally of twelve goals over their last ten games trails only the Toronto Maple Leaf’s top line and ties Calgary’s amazing first line for the NHL’s best across that span.

As -215 favorites in Buffalo and with one of the four 6.5 total games of the twelve tonight, the Blues are projected for a big win. In terms of price, these guys are relatively affordable all things considered so can be used as a pairing with a variety of the night’s more expensive lines.

4/14 NHL Honorable Mention: Dallas One “Jason Robertson ($5,500), Roope Hintz ($5,800), Joe Pavelski ($5,300)”

This one might seem a little bit out of left field. After all, the Stars have a tough matchup as +110 home underdogs against the Wild. However, the game does have a 6.5 implied total and this line has been putting up some monster peripheral stats as of late. Their 149 SATF “which includes all shot attempts of any sort” leads the NHL over the last ten-game sample size.

That said, I think they are a better option if throwing a low-dollar line in giant multiple entry tournaments, etc. The Stars make for the type of single bullet that is both unique in terms of ownership and carries some high upside. In terms of price, they are the cheapest of the three lines listed in terms of overall salary.

Top Defender

Mark Giordano – Toronto Maple Leafs – $4,000 – With the slate as big and possibly high scoring as it is projected to be, I don’t think you’re paying up for a Roman Josi type tonight. Mark Giordano will certainly benefit in terms of production being on the Leafs now as opposed to the Kraken. He does not see time on the top power-play unit “second” but is seeing enough minutes with a much better offense that for a $4,000 price tag I think he fits as a “pay up” of the two defensemen if looking to spend less on both sports.

Top Goalie

Andrei Vasilevskiy – Tampa Bay Lightning – $8,800 – If you have the money, Vas seems like a slam dunk cash play tonight. The Lightning enter the night as -400 favorites against the struggling Ducks so the win is likely and his 2.43 GAA this season sort of speaks for itself.

4/14 NHL Best Bet

Calgary Flames 60 Minute Moneyline (+105) – 0.66 Units, Calgary Flames Moneyline (-155) 0.34 Units, DraftKings – Despite their stellar performance all season and indirect mention earlier, there was no official Calgary Flame writeup so far until now. They enter this matchup as the winners of five straight and have been playing so well all season. Vegas is looking to stay alive in the playoff race but will have their work cut out for them here. I think this is best run as a hybrid bet, 2/3 60 min, 1/3 full money line with odds considered.

With Jared transferring over to the dugout for baseball season, the Hot Shot will now be appearing on Saturdays as well. Now let’s take a deep dive into tonight’s nine-game slate!

4/9 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

Montreal Canadiens (+320) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-425) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (-115) at Detroit Red Wings (-105) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (+215) at New York Rangers (-270) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (-225) at Seattle Kraken (+185) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Anaheim Ducks (-110) at Philadelphia Flyers (-110) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

New York Islanders (+135) at St. Louis Blues (-165) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

Colorado Avalanche (-145) at Edmonton Oilers (+120) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (+120) at Vancouver Canucks (-145) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

Arizona Coyotes (+285) at Vegas Golden Knights (-370) – 6 Projected Goal Total

4/9 NHL Favorite Lines Per Dollar

Top Line – Toronto One “Auston Matthews ($9,600), Mitchell Marner ($7,800), Michael Bunting ($4,400)”

The Maple Leafs’ top line should be the chalk of the night. However, sometimes you can eat a little chalk considering they’re -425 favorites in a 6.5 total game. The last time we saw the Canadiens they were winning us money via a 7-4 win over the Devils. Toronto will be looking to drop at least four here against a defense that seems shaky. While Jake Allen has provided some stability in net for Montreal, he has not been that great since returning.

Over their last ten games, this line leads all lines in the NHL in goals scored. I’m not sure what more needs to be said than that.

Secondary Line – Calgary One “Elias Lindholm ($7,200), Johnny Gaudreau ($7,500), Matthew Tkachuk ($7,200)”

Calgary One is just hard to escape in the world of NHL DFS. Not surprisingly, they are the line just behind the Maple Leaf’s top line across the last ten-game sample above. As far as the span of the season goes they have been ever better. They get a matchup versus a leaky Kraken team here that hasn’t been winning much, to say the least. The Flames are -225 favorites as of writing for this one and of course if there is a six total we can expect Calgary projected for at least four of them. If that happens, well given their strong ratio in regards to team scoring and were looking at two full-line goals for these young studs.

4/9 NHL Honorable Mention: Vegas One “Jack Eichel ($7,800), Chandler Stephenson ($3,900), Evgeni Dadonov ($4,500)”

While this newly formed line has seven full-line goals over their last ten games, the SATF and peripheral stats are lacking. Nevertheless, perhaps this will be an opportunity for positive regression in that regard. The woeful Coyotes are coming to town and Vegas falls behind only Toronto on this slate as strong -370 money line favorites. All three skaters are featured on the Golden Knight’s top power-play unit, offering us a bit more bang for our buck. As is they are super cheap with a lot of upside to match.

Top Defender

Shea Theodore – Vegas Golden Knights – $5,900 – If looking for a defenseman pairing with one of the lines listed above, then search no further. As he has a correlation with the first line on open ice and with the top power-play unit, Shea Theodore makes the perfect pairing with the Golden Knights line listed above. He has put up double-digit DraftKings points in five of his last six games. However, there are likely some ceiling nights coming for Theodore in the near future.

Top Goalie

Thatcher Demko – Vancouver Canucks – $7,900 – There are only two 5.5 total games on this slate. However, it is hard to trust St. Louis goaltending, thus turning us over to the San Jose/Vancouver game. Thatcher Demko has been lights out all season with a stellar 2.66 GAA and the Sharks have not been scoring much. The sub $8,000 price tag is more than fair for this all-star netminder in a plus matchup.

4/9 NHL Best Bet

Philadelphia Flyers/Anaheim Ducks (-105) Ceasars – I was capping lines blindly and previously when these teams met in January it was a 5.5 total w a shorter lean on the under side “granted there has been some general adjustments across the board since then for the record scoring season”. That said, over their last ten games the Ducks have scored as follows, “two goals, one, five “against the Coyotes”, two, two, one, two, three, zero, three”. As for the Flyers, “four, two, four, three, one, four, three, five, three, two” for what makes one of their highest-scoring stretches of the entire season. Maybe there’s some value on the Flyers here as well but there’s no way this should be capped above 6 for even money. Not that it works this way when facing other teams, but under the combined totals above U 6.5 would have hit in 8/10.

The NHL season continues to roll, as we have entered the last month of the season. Tonight gives us a juicy five game slate, with some very interesting spots for leverage. Let’s find the best NHL DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Darcy Kuemper – Colorado Avalanche: The Avalanche head to Winnipeg tonight for a game against the Jets. This is a good spot for Kuemper, who has been a bit inconsistent this year, but has been playing well recently. On the road means a little bit of risk, and we can expect him to give up a couple of goals tonight. However, the shot upside should be there to counter the goals he lets in.

Ilya Sorokin – New York Islanders: The Islanders look to get Sorokin back in net tonight, and that’s a big boost for them. They head to Carolina tonight to take on the Hurricanes, who are notorious for throwing low danger shots at the net from everywhere. Those shots end up being saves, which can help pad a save total for any goalie against them. Carolina has also been struggling a bit lately, playing .500 hockey over their last five games. This game seems like it is going to be tight and low scoring, so if you aren’t comfortable with Sorokin, you can play the other side with Frederik Andersen.

High Risk GPP Goalie Pick – Linus Ullmark – Boston Bruins: The Bruins head to Tampa tonight to take on the Lightning in a game that they can definitely win. Tampa has a whole has been struggling recently, much like Carolina, and this looks like a nice upside spot for Ullmark.

Note: The above plays are geared for GPP. For cash, ownership dictates that we should be playing Sergei Bobrovsky (Florida Panthers).

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Florida Panthers 1 – Aleksander Barkov/Carter Verhaeghe/Anthony Duclair/Mackenzie Weegar: The Panthers have the best matchup on the board tonight, boasting a massive 4.9 implied total, against the Sabres and Dustin Tokarski. The top line matchup is the best one, and people may shy away from playing Duclair or Verhaeghe. If you choose to go power play look here with Barkov/Huberdeau and then someone like Giroux or Weegar, that is hard to argue.

Colorado Avalanche 1 – Nathan MacKinnon/Mikko Rantanen/Valeri Nichushkin/Cale Makar: We have seen Hellebuyck for the Jets be very inconsistent this season, and this looks like a perfect time to take advantage. This top line should see a bulk of the chances tonight and is in a prime spot.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Boston Bruins 1 – Patrice Bergeron/Brad Marchand/Jake Debrusk/Charlie McAvoy: As mentioned above, the Bruins head to Tampa tonight to face a struggling Lightning team and goaltender. Vasilevskiy’s GAA over his last five games is a whopping 3.77, and the Lightning are giving up 3.4 goals per game over their last five home games. This is a formula for success for this line tonight, and the top line should be the focus. However, if Pastrnak should return to the lineup, it would put the second line of Haula/Hall/Pastrnak in play as well. The top line should see the Point line for a majority of the night, in a plus matchup.

Buffalo Sabres 1 – Tage Thompson/Alex Tuch/Jeff Skinner/Rasmus Dahlin: The Sabres are on the road, on a back to back, and heavy underdogs. This creates a heavy leverage spot for the deeper GPP players. Sergei Bobrovsky looks to get the start tonight in net for the Panthers, and his GAA over his last five starts is a massive 4.64.

Carolina Hurricanes 3 – Jordan Staal/Nino Niederreiter/Jesper Fast: This third line should match the top line for the Isles tonight. As much as this line isn’t exactly a scoring line, they should have some chances against the Isles tonight. Because they are a third line, they are high risk due to ice time.

St. Louis Blues 2 – Robert Thomas/Vladimir Tarasenko/Pavel Buchnevich: The Blues host the Wild tonight in a decent matchup for a line that has been hot recently. Talbot for the Wild has been average, so this line should continue to roll.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: TBL1, CAR1, WPG1, WPG2, MIN1

As the end of the season approaches, let’s get amped up to tackle a huge Thursday slate consisting of ten games. We have full odds, favorite lines, a highlighted best bet, and more below!

4/7 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

Philadelphia Flyers (+120) at Columbus Blue Jackets (-140) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Buffalo Sabres (+290) at Carolina Hurricanes (-380) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Pittsburgh Penguins (+100) at New York Rangers (-120) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Nashville Predators (-195) at Ottawa Senators (+160) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Montreal Canadiens (+150) at New Jersey Devils (-170) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Seattle Kraken (+140) at Chicago Blackhawks (-160) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Toronto Maple Leafs (-130) at Dallas Stars (+110) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Vancouver Canucks (-195) at Arizona Coyotes (+160) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Edmonton Oilers (-130) at Los Angeles Kings (+110) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Calgary Flames (-240) at San Jose Sharks (+190) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

4/7 NHL Favorite Lines Per Dollar

Top Line – Calgary One “Matthew Tkachuk ($6,900), Elias Lindholm ($6,900), Johnny Gaudreau ($7,300)

Keep in mind that Calgary is coming in on the second night of a back-to-back “it just finished up, Calgary won 4-2 and this line scored two more full line goals”. When you combine that with the Flames’ game time late in the night, they may go a bit more overlooked than usual on such a big slate. However, lest we not forget just how great this line has been all season. As tremendous -240 favorites in a game with a 6.5 implied total as of the time of writing, there is a lot to like here. Season-long full-line goals are below.

As far as a more recent window, they remain among the top ten lines in the NHL in goals scored over their last ten games.

Secondary Line – Carolina One “Sebastian Aho ($7,000), Teuvo Teravainen ($5,500), Seth Jarvis ($3,500)”

They should be a bit chalky but how could I not mention a line from a -380 favorite? Their SATF in the graphic could certainly be much better but this is the sort of spot through which can likely add to that goal total. They will be looking to exact revenge here having just lost to the Sabres 4-2 on the road. They are also very affordable which comes in handy when we are looking at potentially pairing them with some very expensive lines. Keep in mind Seth Jarvis does not share correlation on the top power-play unit with the other two skaters. If leaving someone off, he would make the most sense. That said, he is super cheap so does provide some savings if needed.

4/7 NHL Honorable Mention: Toronto Maple Leafs One “Auston Matthews ($9,600), Mitchell Marner ($7,500), Michael Bunting ($4,300)”

It’s not the greatest of spots but the ten-game sample above gives you an idea of just how hot this line is. It would be hard not to mention them in a way, even with a subpar matchup on a huge slate. That said Dallas is coming in on a back-to-back and may be susceptible. I think Auston Matthews will get ownership just because he’s Auston Matthews. However, using an additional linemate or two certainly makes for a contrarian lineup with considerable upside.

Top Defender

Roman Josi – Nashville Predators – $8,900 – The de facto choice for top defenseman returns yet again. In a worse matchup perhaps he could be ignored on the basis of price. However, tonight Nashville is a -195 favorite here against the Senators and it is likely Josi is heavily involved as always.

Top Goalie

Juuse Saros – Nashville Predators – $8,300 – Let’s turn to Nashville once again and back Saros here in a game he should see enough shots, as well as grab the win. So I guess we could call it a “Juicy” matchup, har har har. There are no 5.5 total games on this slate so six is as low as we’re going to get.

4/7 NHL Best Bet

Montreal Canadiens Moneyline (+140) DraftKings – The Devils are currently -160 home favorites for this game as of the time of writing. The Canadiens are no superstars to be fair with a further depleted roster post-trade deadline. However, new coach Martin St. Louis has helped toughen this team’s resolve and over their last ten games they only have three wins but two came over giants Tampa Bay and Toronto, and among those losses are a 4-3 loss to the Panthers, 3-2 to Bruins, 4-3 to the Stars, etc. so competitive with playoff teams. The Devils meanwhile have lost 8 of their last ten with the lone wins a 3-2 win over said Canadiens and a 7-4 shocker against the Rangers “I clearly remember that one as the Rangers ML was listed as one of my picks that night”. As of Sunday, New Jersey’s young star Jack Hughes is now out for the season. They have some competitive losses too during their 2/10 stretch for sure but also games like the 8-1 loss to the Bruins. With the odds so short on NJ, there seems to be some value here on the road dog Montreal.

Happy Friday! We have seven games on the slate tonight, with a few teams on back-to-backs (NYI, CHI, ANH). Let’s find the best NHL DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy – Tampa Bay Lightning: This is the cash goalie pick of the night, as the Lightning host the Blackhawks. The Lightning are heavy favorites, and on the second leg of a back-to-back. These factors add up to what should be a very nice night for Vasilevskiy, even though the upside might be somewhat limited.

Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers: This pick was a very close call between him and his opponent, Ilya Sorokin. The reason being is that both of them have been playing pretty well lately, with Igor rebounding a bit over the last week. You can flip a coin on this one, but the advantage goes to Igor, as the Isles are also on the second leg of a back-to-back.

High Risk GPP Goalie Pick – Chris Driedger – Seattle Kraken: This play is super interesting tonight, as the Kraken host the Golden Knights tonight. If he goes, Driedger has some good upside, and could be a strong GPP play. However, if his crease-mate Grubauer gets the nod, you can totally pivot to Logan Thompson for the Golden Knights. This game seems like it could go under, as the Kraken are not that good and the Knights are pretty banged up.

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – Brayden Point/Steven Stamkos/Nikita Kucherov/Victor Hedman: There should be no surprise here, as the Lightning host the Blackhawks tonight and get to face Kevin Lankinen. A lot of times, we would recommend fading the heavy chalk, but it is going to be extremely hard to fade this play tonight. This spot is as juicy as they come, and they should be in for a multi-point night tonight.

Nashville Predators 1 – Ryan Johansen/Matt Duchene/Filip Forsberg/Roman Josi: The Predators head to Buffalo tonight to take on the Sabres in what should be a fun game to watch. Buffalo has actually been playing fairly well, and so have the Preds. This top line has looked very good over the last couple of weeks, and they have a good chance to continue that trend tonight. You can always replace Johansen with Granlund here and get a power play look. Oh, and Roman Josi, look up his game logs. It’s ridiculous.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Nashville Predators 3 – Colton Sissons/Tanner Jeannot/Yakov Trenin: As much as the top line is in play, this third line has been providing some solid depth support for the Predators of late. The preferred approach with this line is to pair Jeannot and Trenin together. They are dirt cheap and provide some decent value, plus access to a nice implied total.

Ottawa Senators 1 – Josh Norris/Brady Tkachuk/Drake Batherson/Erik Brannstrom: This matchup is all about the line matching. Detroit matches the Suter line to the opposing top line, and that is a fantastic matchup for this Ottawa top line tonight. In a small sample, the Suter line is bleeding high danger chances, shots, and goals against, so this line should have its opportunities tonight. Mentioned in honorable mentions, Ottawa 3 has my interest piqued as well, based on the line matching schemes.

Detroit Red Wings 1 – Dylan Larkin/Lucas Raymond/Tyler Bertuzzi/Moritz Seider: That same line matching scheme mentioned above puts the Larkin line in a great spot. They become high risk because Forsberg for Ottawa has been decent (not great) over the last five games. This game could see a lot of scoring tonight.

St. Louis Blues 1 – Ryan O’Reilly/David Perron/Brandon Saad/Nick Leddy: The Blues head into Edmonton, where this line should see a matchup with the Draisaitl line. On the surface, that seems like a tall task, but the Draisaitl line actually gives up a decent amount of chances. Couple that with the fact that Edmonton’s goaltending has not been good, and this becomes a very interesting upside play tonight.

Let’s get ready to dig in. We have an interesting nine-game slate with a ton of high totals. The Chicago/Florida game certainly stands out but we have a few more spots to key in on.

3/31 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

New Jersey Devils (+200) at Boston Bruins (-250) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Montreal Canadiens (+300) at Carolina Hurricanes (-400) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Columbus Blue Jackets (+165) at New York Islanders (-190) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Winnipeg Jets (+175) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-205) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Chicago Blackhawks (+270) at Florida Panthers (-350) – 7 Projected Goal Total

Pittsburgh Penguins (+100) at Minnesota Wild (-120) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (+250) at Colorado Avalanche (-320) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Los Angeles Kings (+225) at Calgary Flames (-285) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (-165) at Anaheim Ducks (+145) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

3/31 NHL Favorite Lines Per Dollar

Top Line – Colorado One “Valeri Nichuskin ($5,200), Nazem Kadri ($6,900), Mikko Rantanen ($6,700)

With both Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon out, both Valeri Nichuskin and Nazem Kadri have moved up to the top line. In the process, they provide us considerable savings and also all share top power-play participation. This, all for a low, low price!

The Avs are coming off a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Flames. Tonight, they rival the Panthers for the status of the night’s largest favorite coming in as a heavy -320 home favorite as of writing, with a 6.5 game total to boost.

Secondary Line – Chicago One “Alex Debrincat ($7,200), Dylan Strome ($4,800), Patrick Kane ($7,600)”

Well, with the Panthers so heavily favored at -350 money line favorites, the assumption is if writing up a line from that game, it would be from Florida. However, with a slate high whopping seven total, I think we can safely say the expectation is a lot of goals. Furthermore, none of the Panther’s lines stand out from another right now.

However, on the other side of this game, we certainly have a line that stands out. The Blackhawks’ top line has been on absolute fire as of late. Over the last ten games, they lead all NHL lines in goals scored by a decent margin.

3/31 NHL Honorable Mention: Toronto Maple Leafs One “Auston Matthews ($9,300), Mitchell Marner ($6,400), Michael Bunting ($3,800)”

In terms of a third line, why not roll with the second-highest scoring line on the graphic above in the form of Toronto One? The Bruins probably have a better matchup but I think the way their lines are split up makes life harder.

Much like the Blackhawks’ top line, the Leaf’s top line has strong peripheral stats within the timeframe, launching 109 total SATF. They are heavily favored at -200 on the money line hosting the Jets so at least a decent spot. Provided their upside, they make an interesting tournament pivot from the lines mentioned above.

Top Defender

Brandon Montour – Florida Panthers – $3,200 – We don’t have any Roman Josi types on this slate so I think you punt here. Montour spends some time on the second power-play unit for the high-flying Panthers and it gets us some exposure to this game. One way or another he is usually good for 5-6 points a game mainly through SOG/assists and allows us to spend elsewhere.

Top Goalie

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars – $7,800 – Jake Oettinger had a strong outing stopping 26 of 28 shots against the Ducks in a 3-2 win Tuesday night. He should draw the net against them once more with Dallas off on Friday. He has been terrific this season with a 2.49 GAA and the Stars are favored here in the only 5.5 total game on the slate. Furthermore, his sub $8,000 price is more than fair.

3/31 NHL Best Bet

Dallas Stars 60 Minute Moneyline (-106) DraftKings – We slightly touched on this game right above under Jake Oettinger but this is just a story of two teams headed in different directions. Stars come in winners of four of their last five while the Ducks really couldn’t be any worse right now, losers of ten straight. Let’s take the hot hand.

It’s Friday! You know what that means…another Friday Night Forecheck! We have five games on the slate tonight, with a few interesting matchups. Let’s find the best NHL DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Jacob Markstrom – Calgary Flames: The Flames host Arizona tonight in what should be a dominant game for them. The Coyotes have been scoring a little more of late, but they also bleed goals. With the way Markstrom has been playing, he should be in line for a nice night against a poor Coyotes team.

Pavel Francouz – Colorado Avalanche: The Avalanche host the Flyers tonight in what should be an ‘easy’ win. The Flyers have struggled to string wins together, and have been especially bad on the road over their last five road games. During that stretch, they have only scored 2.6 goals per game.

High Risk GPP Goalie Pick – Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers: Our friend Igor has burned us recently, as he was shaky over the last few starts. Tonight, he faces a Pittsburgh team that looks like they are getting primed for the playoffs. For that reason, this is a high risk, high upside play. This game looks like it will be a grind it out affair that will be tightly contested. The shot volume should be good for DFS, and on home ice, Igor should be a little more steady.

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Calgary Flames Power Play – Elias Lindholm/Johnny Gaudreau/Matthew Tkachuk/Tyler Toffoli/Rasmus Andersson: The Flames’ power play is in a fantastic spot tonight against one of the worst penalty killing teams in the league. This setup is essentially the top line, and Toffoli on the top line is very, very interesting. Either way you slice it, this unit should be in for a big night.

Colorado Avalanche Power Play – Nathan MacKinnon/Nazem Kadri/Valeri Nichushkin/Mikko Rantanen/Cale Makar: Playing the power play unit in this spot is how we can get access to both top lines in very good spots. The Flyers come into Colorado tonight, on the second half of a traveling back to back. Bad Flyers team, plus they may be tired, means a big opportunity for this well-oiled Colorado machine.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Winnipeg Jets 2 – Pierre-Luc Dubois/Kyle Connor/Evgeny Svechnikov/Josh Morrissey: This line is set up for a nice night tonight against the Blue Jackets. They should see the majority of the second line in a top six matching scheme. The game overall should be pretty high scoring, as we have Merzlikins vs. Comrie tonight. For those into the sports betting, o6.5 for this game seems like a good bet, and is -125 on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Calgary Flames 3 – Calle Jarnkrok/Andrew Mangiapane/Blake Coleman/Noah Hanifin: This third line for the Flames is also in a very, very good spot, and is a great way to get low owned exposure to a massive implied total. They also all skate on the second power play unit. Of course, being a depth line, there is a bunch of risk here. With their value, though, they don’t need much to pay off and then some.

Washington Capitals 1 – Evgeny Kuznetsov/Alex Ovechkin/Marcus Johansson/John Carlson: The Caps head to Buffalo tonight to face the Sabres and Dustin Tokarski. While Tokarski has decent numbers over his last five, he is not what we would consider a top tier goalie. Washington should be able to put together some scoring tonight.

Buffalo Sabres 1 – Tage Thompson/Alex Tuch/Jeff Skinner/Rasmus Dahlin: The Sabres’ top line is in play simply for the goalie matchup. Samsonov for the Caps is not a scary goalie, and this top line has been surprisingly decent this year.

Columbus Blue Jackets 1 – Jack Roslovic/Gustav Nyquist/Patrik Laine/Zach Werenski: We can also consider the top line for the Blue Jackets tonight, especially since this game looks like it will be higher scoring.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: PIT1, NYRPP, PHIPP

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: Calle Jarnkork ($2800) – Calgary Flames

Wing: Marcus Johansson ($2900) – Washington Capitals

Defense: Brian Dumoulin ($2700) – Pittsburgh Penguins

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Cole Sillinger ($4200) – Columbus Blue Jackets

Wing: Marcus Johansson ($4100) – Washington Capitals

Defense: Brian Dumoulin ($4100) – Pittsburgh Penguins

Cash Considerations – DraftKings and FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays for your cash lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. Cash lineups do not need to be stacked, and it is recommended to play no more than two players from a given team.

Tonight, we have one of the largest slates of the week. It will be important to disregard ownership and instead hone in on a few spots which are highlighted below.

3/24 NHL Main Slate of Games – Beginning 7 p.m. ET

Tampa Bay Lightning (-110) at Boston Bruins (-110) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

Dallas Stars (+160) at Carolina Hurricanes (-185) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

Detroit Red Wings (+185) at New York Islanders (-230) – 5.5 Projected Goal Total

Florida Panthers (-245) at Montreal Canadiens (+205) – 6.5 Projected Goal Total

Philadelphia Flyers (+220) at St. Louis Blues (-275) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Vancouver Canucks (+180) at Minnesota Wild (-225) – 6 Projected Goal Total

San Jose Sharks (+205) at Edmonton Oilers (-255) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Ottawa Senators (+225) at Winnipeg Jets (-285) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Nashville Predators (-110) at Vegas Golden Knights (-110) – 6 Projected Goal Total

Chicago Blackhawks (+155) at Los Angeles Kings (-190) – 6 Projected Goal Total

3/24 NHL Favorite Lines Per Dollar

Top Line – Edmonton One “Evander Kane ($6,200), Connor McDavid ($9,000), Kailer Yamamoto ($4,100)

Making a consecutive return to the top of the Hot Shot rankings is Edmonton One. A lot of the other bigger money line favorites either have a lot more disbursement among their lines or are in lower total games. Point per dollar they continue to offer us a solid return and all three skaters share correlation on the top power-play unit. Not surprisingly, they remain among the top lines in the NHL in terms of goals scored over their last ten games.

They have been hot and have a juicy matchup hosting the Sharks as -255 favorites. This is a ten-game slate so within that threshold they will be chalky but with ownership dispersed enough, not that chalky.

Secondary Line – Winnipeg One “Blake Wheeler ($5,700), Nikolaj Ehlers ($6,300), Mark Scheifele ($6,300)”

As you can see from the graphic above, the core of this line has been fairly hot as well and should be higher up on that list, tying Calgary One for 2nd in the NHL in SATF which includes total shot periods, with 121 across that span. Much like the Oilers, the Jets are a huge favorite against a hapless team, coming in as even shorter favorites at -285 against the Ottawa Senators. Making things even better, it is Nikolaj Ehlers on this line and not Paul Statsny, who I have been routinely fading for this last decade or so. Ehlers does not share power play correlation with the other two skaters on the top power-play line, but I guess you can’t have everything. With gas can goalie Anton Forsberg projected to start for Ottawa as of the time of writing and a six total “only one 6.5 on this slate”, Winnipeg One makes sense for a secondary line.

3/24 NHL Honorable Mention: Any of three Minnesota Wild lines

It’s rare I write up all three of a team’s lines but all three have been putting up their fill of statistics. Here I have everything sorted over the last ten games specifically for SATF.

In terms of SATF, all three primary Wild lines are in the top twenty in the NHL, wow! Minnesota is another one of the big home favorites at -225, facing the Canucks who come in on the 2nd half of a back-to-back. My suggestion would be to use the line that makes the most sense in terms of your remaining salary. If I were making 5 to 10 lines I’d get some exposure to all three.

Top Defender

Tyson Barrie – Edmonton Oilers – $4,600 – It would be easy to just go back to Roman Josi here. However, now over $9,000 he basically dictates the rest of your build. I think using him makes more sense on a smaller slate as opposed to a big Thursday slate. So, we can roll with Barrie who enjoys the same juicy matchup as Edmonton One mentioned above. He has slowed his roll over his last two games but previously had four straight double-digit DraftKings point games.

Top Goalie

Juuse Saros – Nashville Predators – $7,800 – There is not much going on at all in the cheap range tonight so the lowest I would look is at Juuse Saros. He has not had quite the same form overall since the all-star break but has been a bit better recently. Vegas has not had the season they wished for but here in a pick-em game, they should be able to put some shots on net, hopefully, lots of bad ones!

3/24 NHL Best Bet

Minnesota Wild 60 Minute Moneyline (-135) DraftKings – As noted above, this is a team with three full lines clicking right now and they will be rested as opposed to the Canucks. Vancouver might have had a thrill on night one of the back-to-back beating the Avalanche. However, the only thrill tonight will be Kirill the Thrill!
