Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot, where I’ll go through the top NHL DFS Goalies and Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

It’s Saturday and that means we have ourselves a healthy-sized slate of NHL DFS. We have 12 games on tap tonight in what should be a high-scoring affair. There are several top offensive teams in glorious matchups tonight. Toronto, Colorado, and Vancouver are in better-than-normal spots and we’ll need to figure out which expensive stack to use.

Let’s dig in and make some money!

NHL DFS Goalies

Jacob Markstrom vs. Los Angeles

We have a collision of 2 things we are looking for when picking a goalie. A goalie that is hot and a team that isn’t scoring much in the way of goals. The KIngs offense has pretty much disappeared over the last couple of weeks as they’re scoring just 2 goals per game over their last 6 games. We’ll want to attack that and we’ll attack with a goalie who is playing very well right now and won’t break the bank.

Over his last 3 games, Jacob Markstrom has a save % of .950 and has given up just 1.35 goals per game. Those are great numbers and with his price tag being just $7.5k on DK tonight, he’s very much in play. In his last 2 games, he’s scored 27.5 and 25.6 DK points. The Kings can explode at any time, but I like Markstrom’s chances tonight to get us value at his current price.

Ilya Sorokin vs. Carolina Hurricanes

The Islanders head to Carolina tonight to take on the Hurricanes. While the Hurricanes are favored in this one, I’m still going to take a swing at them with the Sorokin. Sorokin has been playing really well over the last few weeks and is extremely cheap tonight. HIs $7.1 price tag will allow us some payroll flexibility with the rest of our lineup.

With his level of play of late, we shouldn’t lose any productivity. Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen him put up 23.5 DK points vs. Edmonton, 24.4 against Toronto, and 27.9 vs. Florida. He’s been able to tame some pretty potent offenses and should be able to again tonight.

Other goalies: Joey Daccord, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Charlie LIndgren

NHL DFS Stacks – Main

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Nylander, Knies) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

On paper, there may not be a better matchup tonight than the Maple Leafs vs. Columbus. I normally try to steer away from highlighting an obvious stack like the Leafs, but it’s just a solid spot that I really just need to portray to all of you. Columbus is giving up pretty close to 5 goals per game over the last couple of weeks. They’re also giving up over 15 high-danger chances per game. They are extremely attackable right now and we’re going to do just that with one of the top goal scorers in the NHL.

Over his last 4 games, Matthews has 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points. He is playing great right now and we’ll want to make sure we have a piece of him in our lineup tonight. He’s expensive so we’ll probably need to find some crazy value elsewhere, but he’ll be worth it.

His line-mates are also very much in play. William Nylander for his production and Matthew Knies for his value. If you’re playing Matthews tonight, Knies is almost a must as he’s just $3.5k on DK. He’s far from a sure thing to get to value, but his price tag alone makes him worth it. He makes paying the $10k so much easier tonight. Fading Matthews tonight is high-risk.

Colorado 1 (Rantanen, MacKinnon, Nichuskin) vs. Arizona Coyotes

The decision we’ll need to make tonight will be which of these top lines do we play. Do we go with Toronto vs. Columbus or Colorado vs. Arizona. My lean right now is Colorado. All 3 of these guys are on fire. While the Coyotes are better defensively than Columbus, this top line for the Avalanche is on absolute fire right now.

Let’s start with the cheapest of the 3 and that’s Valeri Nichuskin. Nichuskin has arguably been the best of the 3 and he’s the cheapest at $7.3k. No one on this slate has more high-danger chances over their last 5 games than Nichuskin at 27. He’s on fire and we’ll want him in our lineups tonight.

The next decision that you’ll want to make is to pick between the starts, Rantanen and MacKinnon. If I had to pick between the 2, I’d side right now with Rantanen as he’s cheaper and can still get us a boatload of points tonight. Over his last 5 games, he has 8 points thanks to his 4 goals and 4 assists. He’s $1,400 cheaper than MacKinnon tonight and that savings will go a long way to helping us build a solid lineup.

Columbus 2 (Chinakhov, Voronkov, Marchenko) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

I’ve given you 2 high-priced stacks already so in order to build a solid lineup tonight, I also need to give a cheap one. The second line for Columbus will do that for us. All 3 of these guys are below $5k. They’ve combined for 3 goals over their last 3 games and have a SATF of 36. That SATF is actually one of the top numbers of any trio skating together tonight. Only a handful of lines have a better SATF than this line.

It also helps that the Maple Leafs aren’t great defensively. Over the last couple of weeks, they have been challenged on the defensive front. They are giving up pretty close to 4 goals per game and have also allowed close to 36 shots on net per game. A complete game stack here is very much in play.

Other stacks I like tonight:

New Jersey 1 and 2 vs. Detroit

Detroit 1 vs. New Jersey

NYR 1 and 2 vs. Buffalo

Buffalo 1 and 2 vs. NYR

Van 1 and 2 vs. SJ

Value D

Timothy Liljegren – $3k

Jackson LaCombe – $3k

Ian Cole – $2.7k

MIkey Anderson – $3.7k

NHL DFS Summary

This is a great-looking slate that we can take in several directions. The decision we’ll need to make tonight will be who of the top lines do we pick. Going with anyone from Colorado, Toronto, and Vancouver will be a great path to success. We’ll also need to make sure we pick the right value plays.

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.  On this first day of March, the NHL has blessed us with a 6-game slate of NHL DFS. That’s way more than we are used to on a Wednesday and this is a solid-looking slate. We’ll want to keep an eye on lines as we get closer to puck drop as trades are happening and things can change in an instant.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Connor Ingram ($6.9K DK/$7.2k FD) vs. Dallas Stars – I’m willing to go risky with my goalie tonight, especially in this Coyotes/Stars game. The Dallas offense has not been good. Over the last 2 weeks, they’re scoring just over 2 goals per game. With the number of shots that Arizona gives up plus the low shooting % of the Stars right now, there’s a ton of upside in playing Ingram tonight. At his price point, we don’t need much to return value and he should be able to do it with ease.

Frederik Andersen ($7.8k DK/$8.2k FD) vs. Vegas Golden Knights– The Hurricanes head to Vegas tonight to take on a Golden Knights team that has seen their offense struggle over the last couple of weeks. Over their last 6 games, the Knights have scored just 2.5 goals per game. Andersen has somewhat limited upside tonight because the Hurricanes don’t give up too many shots, but he would be able to get the W and isn’t overly expensive.

NHL DFS Stacks

Rangers 2 (Kane, Panarin, Trocheck) + Fox vs. Philly

One of the teams I love picking on most is the Flyers. They are bad. Over their last 6 games, they are just 1-5 and giving up over 5 goals per game. Their goaltending has been downright atrocious with a save % of 82.97. That’s far and away the worst of any team skating tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Showtime! The worst-kept secret became official last night when Patrick Kane became a New York Ranger. He’s now paired up with former teammate Artemi Panarin. These two were great together in their Chicago days and the Rangers are hoping that spark comes back. Kane has been playing great hockey over the last couple of weeks and the hope is that he continues tonight. Trocheck has been one of the hottest Rangers and I’ll be going full stack here.

Washington 3 (Strome, Milano, Oshie) + Sandin vs. Anaheim

At some point, John Gibson won’t be able to stop 50 shots a game. He’s been playing some fantastic hockey right now but the good times came only last so long. The Ducks’ defense is just atrocious. They are giving up over 19 high-danger chances per game and over 43 shots on goal per game. They have been extremely lucky that they’ve only given 4 goals per game. It should be much higher.

While Ovechkin is the main draw on this team, I will dig deep and go with the third line for Washington tonight. They’ve been the line providing the majority of the offense of late. Oshie leads the team in goals over the last 5 games with 5 and even Milano has a pair. Oshie is my priority here as he plays on the top power-play unit. You could also just play the power player of Oshie, Ovechkin, and Kuznetsov. They should have plenty of opportunities to score tonight.

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Marner, Bunting) + Rielly vs. Edmonton

This is more of a testament to how the Coyotes have been playing than it is about the Flames. Only the Islanders have scored more goals per game over the last 2 weeks than the Coyotes, of the teams playing tonight of course. I have little interest in the Islanders tonight as Hellebuyck is a tough goalie to crack. So that leaves us with the Coyotes

The Maple Leafs have been one of the more active teams leading up to the trade deadline. They’ve made moves to bolster both their offense and defense. They’ll take that revamped roster to Edmonton tonight to take on an Oilers team that has been somewhat struggling on defense as they’re giving up close to 4 goals per game over the last 2 weeks. Their biggest weakness has been the high-danger goal allowed. The Maple Leafs are a team that takes full advantage of high-danger chances. This should be fun.

My main priority here is going to be Marner. The dude has been dishing out apples left and right as he has 8 assists over his last 5 games. I’ll look to pair him with Matthews tonight. The two of them should be able to take full advantage of Edmonton here.

Other Stacks: Rangers 1, Edm 1, Tor 2, Dal 1, Ari 1, NJD 1 and 2, Was 1, Car 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Martin Fehervary – $3.3k on DK
  • Josh Manson– $3.6k on Dk
  • John Klingberg – $3.7k on DK
  • Nick Jensen – $3.4k on DK

Summary

Tonight’s going to be a tricky slate. The matchups aren’t overly exaggerated. That said, we do have some nice sports for offense with the Rangers and Capitals. They’ll be my core tonight.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   Although it’s NBA All-Star Weekend, we still have a great slate of NHL DFS. This article will be focused on the 8-game main slate starting at 7 pm est. There are some great matchup tonights that we’ll want to exploit.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Ilya Samsonov vs. Montreal Canadiens – Ilya Samsonov is currently listed as day-to-day with an illness, but should he get the nod tonight, I’m all over him. He’s put together some really strong starts of late and with Matthews back in the mix, this Maple Leafs team is poised to go on a solid run. In 3 of his last 4 starts, Samsonov has been at or above 18 DK points. Look for him to continue with his strong play tonight against the Habs.

Adin Hill vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – This is far from a safe pick as the Lightning offense can explode at any moment. That said, the Lightning have been struggling to find the back of the net. Over their last 6 games, they’ve averaged just 2.5 goals per game. Add in the fact that Hill has been playing very well, I’m willing to roll the dice and play him at just $7.4k on DK tonight. He’s reached at least 15 DK in 4 of his last 5 starts. If he can get us that tonight against the Lightning, I’ll be happy based on his price.

NHL DFS Stacks

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Nylander, Bunting) + Rielly vs. Montreal

Although Montreal has been a little more stout defensively over the last couple of weeks, they’re still the Montreal Canadiens. On the season, they have a -50 goal differential. They can get blown out anytime they take the ice and I think that happens tonight against a really good Maple Leafs offense.

In his first game back from a lengthy IR stay, Matthews had a goal and an assist. He also sparked a fire under linemate William Nylander. Matthews is a difference maker and having him back in the lineup will have this offense clicking. With this stack, I’m mostly focused on these 2. You can certainly add in Bunting to bring down the average cost of this stack, but he’s far from a must-play. I’d prefer to go with Rielly to get this stack to 3 people.

Buffalo 1 (Thompson, Skinner, Tuch) + Dahlin vs. San Jose

After a struggle to start the month of February, the Sabres exploded for 7 goals vs. the Ducks the other night. If their offense can get going again, they’ll be a force. While I don’t expect them to get another 7 tonight, they do get a great matchup vs. a defensively challenged Sharks team. The Sharks have given up over 16 high-danger chances per game over the last 2 weeks. The only reason their GAA isn’t sky high is due to some solid goaltending. That can only last so long.

Although this top line for Buffalo has been mostly quiet recently, this is a matchup that may tap their ceiling. We’ve seen what this trio can do and I’m hopeful that comes out tonight. Thompson and Tuch both lit up the lamp the other night against the Ducks and I’m hopeful they do it again tonight vs. the Sharks. I will add though that they are a big risk because they are pricey.

Philadelphia 1 (Hayes, Cates, Tippett) + Provorov vs. Vancouver

Since Rick Tocchet took over the head coaching responsibilities in Vancouver, the Canucks rank dead last in Goals Against Average, Penalty Kill, and Save %. They’ve never been good on defense, but they’ve taken it to another level since Tocchet took over. Maybe the coach wasn’t the issue? Although the Flyers offense isn’t the greatest, we’ll always want to take advantage of the Canucks.

We’ll do so tonight with the top line for Philly. I’m mostly focused on Hayes and Tippett here. Cates would be in play if you really need the extra cash since he’s only $3.2k on DK. In this game, you can also just play the top PP unit for Philly which consists of Hayes, Frost, JVR, and Konecny. As I noted above, the Canucks PK has been abysmal.

Other Stacks: Toronto 2, Car 1 and 2, NYR 1, 2, 3, Cgy 1, LA 1, Det 1, Sea 1 and 3

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Nick Seeler – $2.8k on DK
  • K’Andre Miller – $4.3k on Dk
  • Matt Roy – $3.9k on DK
  • T.J. Brodie – $3.6k on DK

Summary

We have a fun day of NHL DFS in store. This night slate has a few games that have the potential to be real blowouts, especially Toronto vs. Montreal.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   On this fine beautiful Saturday, we have a full day of hockey. This article will be solely focused on the main slate which starts at 7pm EST. We have some great games tonight so it should be a fun NHL DFS slate.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Joseph Woll/Matt Murray vs. Columbus Blue Jackets – With Ilya Samsanov getting the nod last night, we’ll get either Joseph Woll or Matt Murray in net tonight for Toronto. I’m fine with either of them as Toronto is a massive favorite tonight against a bad Blue Jackets team. While Columbus can occasionally put up a big number, that shouldn’t happen tonight against a solid Maple Leafs team. Feel confident in starting either of these guys.

Connor Hellebuyck vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Another team that is a massive favorite tonight will be the Winnipeg Jets as they get to take on the lowly Chicago Blackhawks. Hellebuyck is having a fine season as the GAA and save % are the best they’ve been since 2017. He’s a bit more than I like to spend on a goalie, but he’s in position for a potential shutout tonight.

NHL DFS Stacks

Toronto 1 (Tavares, Bunting, Marner) + Rielly vs. Columbus

Tonight we get a rematch of the Toronto vs. Columbus. Last night we saw Toronto get 3 goals on the road. They should have an easier way tonight as they’ll be home and they also should see Elvis Merzlikins in net. Elvis is statistically one of the worst goalies in the NHL and one we should always attack with a stack.

Tavares and Marner have both combined for 6 points apiece over their last 5 games. Those 2 will be my core with this stack. Tavares has been at 17 DK points or above in 5 of his last 6 games. At $7.2k on DK tonight, he’s going to be a lock for me with the type of production we are seeing from him. Toronto should be able to put up a huge number tonight and I’ll want to make sure I have a piece of them. This top line will be where i go.

Pittsburgh 2 (Malkin, Zucker, Rust) + Petry vs. Los Angeles

The Kings have been defensively challenged over the last month or so. Over the last month, the Kings are giving up close to 3.8 goals per game. While the Penguins may have some tired legs after playing last night, I’m still going to look their way because they have immense upside tonight.

I’ll focus on their second line tonight. It’s very affordable and Malkin has been playing extremely well. Over his last 5 games, Malkin has 10 points. That includes the 2 helpers he had in last night’s 6-3 win over the Ducks. I’ll look to add Rust as a priority here. Rust is also playing well right now, with full stat lines in 3 of his last 4 games. Again, they’re a bit of a risk due to playing last night, but the Kings haven’t been good and the Penguins have a ton of talent.

Winnipeg 1 (Scheifele, Ehlers, Wheeler) + Morissey vs. Chicago

Winnipeg has quietly been one of the best teams in the league this season. If you were looking for a sleeper pick to win the Cup, they’re your team. They get a great matchup tonight vs. a very bad Chicago Blackhawks team. Chicago has just 37 points on the year compared to 65 for the Jets. This is as lopsided of a matchup as there gets.

I’ll focus on the top line for Winnipeg tonight. I’ll be mostly focused on Scheifele and Ehlers here. Scheifele leads the team in goals over the last 5 games with 3. Ehlers has been quiet on the scoring front, but he has the second-highest iCF on the team over the last 5 and it’s only a matter of time before he takes off. This is the type of matchup that he can take off in.

Other Stacks: Toronto 2, Carolina 1, Rangers 1 and 2, Min 1, NJD 1, Pit 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • T.J. Brodie – $3.5k on DK
  • Ryan Graves – $3.8k on Dk
  • Torey Krug – $4.8k on DK
  • Damon Severson – $3.6k on DK

Summary

We have a fun day of NHL DFS in store. This night slate has a few games that have the potential to be real blowouts, especially Winnipeg and Toronto. Both teams have immense upside tonight.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   For a Saturday, we have a nice-sized 9-game slate of NHL DFS. There are some great spots for offense tonight that we’ll want to take advantage of.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Logan Thompson ($7.6K DK/$7.4k FD) vs. New York Islanders – The Islanders’ offense is a mess right now. Over the last 2 weeks, they’ve scored just 15 goals in 8 games. They’re coming off a win last night, but they scored just 2 goals in that one. Until their offense starts clicking again, we’ll want to target goalies against them. The price for Thompson is really nice as it’s in the mid $7k range. That makes him playable in GPP’s tonight.

John Gibson ($7.8k DK/$7.6k FD) vs. Arizona Coyotes –We have a matchup here of 2 teams that have combined for 72 points. For context, the Bruins have 80 points. Neither of these offenses is any good, especially the Coyotes’ offense. Gibson is coming off of one of his best games of the season. A game that saw him stop 41 of 44 shots from the Avalanche. Look for him to continue with the solid performances and get the W tonight vs. a bad Coyotes team.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Holloway, Hyman) + Nurse vs. Chicago

The Oilers were mostly a huge disappointment the other night in an extremely juicy matchup. While the matchup tonight isn’t as juicy as it was Wednesday, it’s still an extremely enticing matchup vs. a bad Blackhawks team. The Blackhawks are giving up a couple of things that I really look for. Over the last 2 weeks, they’re giving up close to 16 high-danger chances per game and nearly 35 shots per game. That’s a ton of shot volume and a ton of high-danger chances. Goaltending can only get you so far.

My preference in this stack is going to be Hyman and McDavid. Hyman is playing some of the best hockey of his season right now. Over his last 5 games, Hyman has 5 goals and 7 assists for an average of well over 2 points per game. Next up will be McDavid, the best player in the game. He’s also been good, just not as good as Hyman. The 2 should be able to dominate in this cake matchup tonight. Holloway isn’t a must-play in this stack, but he opens up some salary relief as he’s just $3.5k on DK.

Seattle 1 (Donato, Eberle, Burakovsky) + Larsson vs. Columbus

We should see Elvis Merzlikins in the net for Columbus tonight and that my friends should be music to our ears. Elvis is statistically one of the worst goalies in the NHL. Over his last 8 games, he’s given up less than 3 goals just once. During that stretch of play, he’s also given up 6 goals multiple times as well as 5 goals. He’s swiss cheese and we’ll want to target that mess tonight.

While the Seattle offense is typically thought to gauge, I’m going to target this top line for them tonight. I’m mostly interested in Ryan Donato here. He’s only $3k and has been their main goal-scorer. Over his last 5 games, Donato has 4 goals. His price plus production is key to unlocking Edmonton tonight. Of course, we’ll want to pair him with either Eberle or Burakovsky so we get some correlation. My preference here would be Burakovsky as he has slightly more upside.

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby, Rust, Guentzel) + Letang vs. San Jose

We’ll call this stack the Vecchio special tonight. Pittsburgh, as inconsistent as they’ve been of late, are in a great spot tonight vs. a suspect San Jose Team. A team that will more than likely have a firesale at the deadline. San Jose has been giving up over 4 goals per game over the last couple of weeks. It’s mostly been due to horrendous goaltending as they have just an 87.5 save % over that stretch.

We’ll look to attack San Jose with the top line for Pittsburgh tonight. My main preferences here will be Crosby and Guentzel. Combined, they have 15 points over their last 5 games. With such a great matchup tonight, they should be able to add to their point totals tonight. Rust is also playable here, but he’s not a priority for me. If he fits my builds, I’ll certainly play but will not be forcing him in.

Other Stacks: Ottawa 1, Montreal 2, TB 1 and 2, WPG 1 and 2, Min 1, Buf 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Rasmus Ristolainen – $3.1k on DK
  • Owen Power – $3.4k on Dk
  • Jake Sanderson – $3.8k on DK
  • Dylan DeMelo – $3.3k on DK

Summary

Can Edmonton fail us again? I’m willing to roll the dice that they don’t in another great matchup tonight. I’ll be prioritizing getting them into my lineups tonight.

Make sure to use our Projection model when setting lineups.

Good luck and hope to see you in the green!

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Saturday Slapshot.   Thanks to a small 2-game slate last night, today we’re blessed with a massive 11-game slate. We’ll have plenty of options today for our NHL DFS lineups.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Jake Oettinger ($8.5K DK/$9k FD) vs. Arizona Coyotes– The price is a bit high for me, especially on FD, but it’s a great spot for Jake tonight. This is one of the more lopsided matches of the night and one we’ll want to exploit with our goalie and stacks. The Coyotes just aren’t scoring right now and this screams shutout potential for Oettinger. His ceiling is a bit lower than most so we’ll want to reserve this play for Cash games. That said, if you have some cash left over, he’s also playable in GPP’s.

Darcy Kuemper ($7.5k DK/$7.6k FD) vs. Vegas Golden Knights – If you’re going to use a goalie on the cheaper end tonight, Kuemper should be your guy. He’s on a stretch right now where he’s playing very well. He’s coming off a 26-save shutout of the Coyotes but also has 4 of his last 6 starts. The matchup isn’t bad either as the Golden Knights aren’t scoring too much right now. Over the last 2 weeks, they’re scoring just 2 goals per game. Their offense has all but disappeared and this may be an exploitable spot.

NHL DFS Stacks

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Nylander, Bunting) + Rielly vs. Montreal

After a stretch of excellent goaltending, Sam Montembeault’s world came crashing down on Thursday night. With his play returning to a more normal level, we’ll look to attack him tonight in an original 6-matchup between the Maple Leafs and Canadiens.

I’ll be targeting the top line for Toronto tonight, but the second unit is also very much in play. My lineups tonight will more than likely have 100% exposure to Auston Matthews. He has immense upside in this matchup tonight and very well could score multiple goals. Over his last 5 games, he’s found the back of the net 4 times. I’ll pair him with both Nylander and Bunting tonight. Bunting is the cheaper of the 2 and if you could only go with one, I’d go with him.

Edmonton 2 (Draisaitl, Hyman, McLeod) + Barrie vs. Vancouver

Another extremely exploitable spot tonight will be Edmonton against Vancouver. Defensively, Vancouver is just a mess right now. They are 1-6 over their last 7 games and are giving up a ton of the good stuff on defense. They’re giving up well over 4.5 goals per game and over 15 high-danger chances per game. With how well the Oilers’ offense is clicking right now, this is one of my favorite spots for offense tonight.

Connor McDavid is always in play, but I’m going to lean toward the second line of Edmonton tonight as they’re playing very well right now. Draisaitl leads the way right now with 5 goals and 5 assists in his last 5 games. Hyman isn’t too far behind with the production as he has 3 goals and 5 assists in his last 5 for 8 points. McLeod is an important piece here as he’s just $2.6k on DK. He makes paying up for Draisaitl and Hyman a lot easier and he’s no slouch either as he has 3 goals in his last 5.

Philly 3 (Hayes, Laughton, Allison) + Ristolainen vs. Detroit

I’ve given 2 high-priced lines so far so I feel obligated to give at least one cheap one. We need to keep in mind that any time we play a third line, it’s high-risk. Overall, this is a good spot for Philly tonight. Detroit is giving up around 3.5 goals per game over the last couple of weeks and Philly can definitively get some pucks past Husso tonight.

The main piece in this third line that I want is Scott Laughton. He’s been playing very well of late with 2 goals and 5 assists in his last 5. He also gets time on the top power-play unit for Philly. I’ll look to pair him with ex-Ranger Kevin Hayes. Hayes has also been playing well with 3 goals in his last 5. This is a high-risk high reward line tonight and will make paying up for Edmonton 2 or Toronto 1 easier.

Other Stacks: Toronto 2, Winnipeg 1, Ottawa 1, Det 1, Columbus 1, SJ 1 and 2, Carolina 1 and 2, Stl 1 and 2, Dallas 1 (great, great spot), Seattle 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Jalen Chatfield- $2.6k on DK
  • Esa LIndell – $3.3k on Dk
  • Timothy Liljegren – $3.2k on DK
  • Connor Murphy – $3k on DK

Summary

At first glance, this looks like an amazing slate tonight. We have tons of different options and it should be a high-scoring NHL DFS night.

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches.   A large Tuesday slate leaves us with just 4 games of NHL DFS tonight. Those 4 games however pack a massive punch and we should see a healthy amount of scoring.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Phoenix Copley ($8.2K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. San Jose Sharks – Have the Kings found their goalie? It sure seems like it. The 30-year old netminder has been playing some exceptional hockey over the last few weeks. Since December 6, Copley has played 13 games and has won 11 of them. His 2.56 GAA is the best of his career. He also gets a favorable matchup tonight vs. a Sharks team that is just 2-3-2 in their last 7 games. This is a great spot for Copley to continue his stellar play.

Jack Campbell ($8.2k DK/$7.5k FD) vs. Anaheim Ducks– This is more of a testament to the matchup than it is to the goalie. The Ducks are a mess on both sides of the ice and one we can take advantage of. The Ducks are scoring just 2 goals per game over the last 2 weeks. That’s pretty horrendous. Campbell, while not great, is a competent goalie and should be able to limit the damage tonight against this anemic offense. He’s shown upside at times this season and should show it tonight. Far from safe so he’s more of a GPP only type play.

NHL DFS Stacks

Edmonton 1 (McDavid, Kostin, Yamamoto) + Nurse vs. Anaheim

Any time the Ducks play we should automatically consider stacking against them. They are one of the worst teams in the league and more often than not, give up a ton of goals. Just look at their last game where Boston put up a 7-spot vs. them. The Ducks just play too loose of a defense to have any success. Over the last 2 weeks, they’ve given up on average nearly 18 high-danger chances per game. That’s just not going to cut it.

I’ll be honest, I’m mostly focused on McDavid here. You can certainly pair him with Yamamoto or Kostin, but I wouldn’t do a full line stack here as neither of those guys has much upside. Another route you can take here is to play the Oilers’ PP and pair McDavid with Draisaitl and Hyman. Regardless, I will be finding a way to get McDavid into my lineups tonight. In this matchup against a bad Ducks team, he’ll be a man among boys and should be able to do whatever he wants on the ice.

Los Angeles 3 (Fiala, Lizotte, Vilardi) + Doughty vs. San Jose

This is probably one of the more lopsided matchups of the night. We have the Kings (54 points) vs. the Sharks (34 points), with both teams on polar opposite ends of the standings. This is a game that the Kings should dominate from the very start, especially with how bad the Sharks goaltending has been of late. They’ve given up 4 goals per game on just 27 shot attempts per game. That equates to a slate low 85% save %.

We’ll attack San Jose tonight with the third line from LA. This is the line that has been keeping the Kings afloat. They’re led by Kevin Fiala. Over his last 5 games, Fiala has 5 goals and 5 assists for an average of 2 points per game. My preference here is to pair him with Vilardi. Vilardi has 5 assists in his last 5 games and is just $3.8k on DK tonight. It’s always risky playing a third line, but these guys have been playing really well.

Toronto 2 (Tavares, Marner, Jarnkrok) + Giordano vs. Nashville

I don’t often make it a habit of picking on the Predators because they do have solid goaltending, but this second line for Toronto has been playing really well and that should continue tonight. Even though their goaltending is solid, their defense is not. The Predators are giving up more than 15 high-danger chances per game over the last 2 weeks. Goaltending can only save you for so long and against a really good Maple Leafs team, it won’t be enough.

All 3 guys on this second line have upside tonight and I more than likely will play a full stack here. This line is led by Tavares and his 4 goals over the last 5 games. Combined, these guys have 21 points in their last 5 games. The priority here if you don’t wan to go full stack is Tavares and Marner. That said, Jarnkrok offers nice savings at $2.9k tonight. He’s been productive with 5 points in his last 5.

Other Stacks: Was 1, Philly 2, Tor 1, Nash 1, LA 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Martin Fehervary – $3.0k on DK
  • Marc-Edouard Vlasic – $2.6k on Dk
  • Alexandre Carrier – $2.7k on DK

Summary

It’s a small but mighty 4-game slate tonight. We have some really clear spots for offense and also some sneaky ones. McDavid is a must play tonight IMO, and pairing him with either his line mates or power play mates will be a key to you getting a takedown.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  With just 5 games on tap tonight, our options are going to be somewhat limited. We also have a handful of teams playing on the tail end of a back-to-back. That said, it should be a fun slate .

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Matt Murray ($8.1K DK/$8.4k FD) vs. Calgary Flames – The Flames showed last night that they are definitely not the same Flames team of years past. Against a poor defensive Blue Jackets team, they mustered just 1 goal, leaving plenty of NHL DFS lineups to rot. Tonight, we’ll use the Flames a bit differently. We’re going to attack them with a goalie.

Matt Murray is coming into this game off arguably the game of his career. Against the powerful Stars team, he stopped all 44 shots on his way to a 43 DK performance. I’m not calling for a repeat performance, but we know he has upside and won’t break the bank at $8.1k on DK. Murray has been strong all year with just 2 games under 10 DK points this season. The Maple Leafs are strong favorites in this one, solidifying this pick.

Jonathan Quick ($8k DK/$6.8k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – This is more of a matchup play than a testament to the play of Quick. While the Canadiens haven’t been awful this season, their offense has left a lot to be desired. Of all the teams playing tonight, they have the lowest goals per game over the last couple of weeks and if we look out to a longer view, it would be a similar story.

Quick has been far from great this year, with a 3.42 GAA and a .887 save %. That said, he has shown at times the ability to have a strong game and I think this environment tonight is one that he could do well in. He’s much more of a play on FD tonight as he’s under $7k there.

NHL DFS Stacks

Pittsburgh 1 (Crosby, Guentzel, Rakell) + Petry vs. Buffalo

We get a repeat matchup between the Sabres and Penguins tonight. The 2 teams combined to scored 7 goals last night and i wouldn’t be surprised to see more than tonight as both teams should have some tired legs and that normally equates to some sloppier play. Vegas agrees as this game already has an implied goal total of 7. That’s high!

I’m starting off my roster tonight with the top line for Pittsburgh. Although Crosby was a huge disappointment last night, his linemates weren’t. Both Guentzel and Rakell had goals last night and were productive. Guentzel is now up to 8 points over his last 5 games and for me tonight, is the most important piece to this stack.

Kings 1 (Kopitar, Fiala, Kaliyev) + Doughty vs. Montreal

I like to pick and choose my spots with the Los Angeles Kings and tonight seems like a spot to use them in. With Jake Allen expected to be in goal tonight for Montreal, we’ll have a goalie that has big goal upside. And by big goal upside, I mean he likes to give up a large number of goals. He has a bunch of games this season giving up at least 4 goals.

We’ll look to attack Montreal with the top line for the Kings. My core here will be Fiala. Over his last 5 games, Fiala has 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points. I’ll add in Kopitar to this core. Kopitar has 3 goals and 4 assists in his last 5, including a 3 assist game the other tonight. I’m not overly interested in Kaliyev.

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Bunting, Nylander) + Giordano vs. Calgary

The Maple Leafs’ offense has been showing a lot more consistency lately and that has me all over them tonight, especially this top line. The Leafs have scored at least 4 goals in 5 of their last 7 games and are finally back to being that prolific scoring team.

While not a sneaky pick with this top line for the Leafs, it’s one that should do well. All 3 guys on this line are in play tonight. While Matthews is back to scoring goals with 4 in his last 5, I wouldn’t hold you back if you just wanted to play Nylander and Bunting tonight. Both guys have been productive with a combined 10 points over their last 5 games, and they come in much cheaper than Matthews. That said, Matthews is still an elite play tonight.

Other Stacks: Buffalo 1 and 2, Pittsburgh 2, Toronto 2, Montreal 1, Car 1 and 2, Min 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • T.J Brodie – $2.6k on DK
  • Brady Skjei – $3.3k on Dk
  • Jan Rutta– $2.7k on DK
  • Brian Dumoulin – $2.8k on DK

Summary

Tonight should be a fun night of NHL DFS. We have some really strong games tonight, including a repeat of the Sabres and Penguins.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  Thanks to Thanksgiving, we have a much smaller than normal 5-game Saturday slate.  This is much more manageable than normal and one we should absolutely smash tonight.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Semyon Varlamov ($8.1K DK/$8.3k FD) vs. Philadelphia Flyers – With Ilya Sorokin playing last night, we’ll more than likely see Semyon Varlamov in the net tonight for the Islanders.  He’s the clear number 2 on this team, but he gets a great matchup tonight vs. a Flyers team that is struggling to score goals right now.  Over the last 2 weeks, the Flyers are scoring just 2 goals per game in the 8 games they’ve played.

While Varlamov is nothing spectacular, he has put up respectable numbers this season with a 2.97 GAA and a .914 save percentage.  The Islanders are big favorites tonight so there’s a solid chance that Varlamov gets the W.

Vitek Vanecek ($8.1k DK/$8.4k FD) vs. Washington Capitals – The hot New Jersey Devils will look to continue their solid play tonight vs. an aging Washington Capitals team.  My only concern with this pick tonight will be that the Devils don’t give up much in the way of shots so this may be more reserved for Cash games.  That said, Vanecek stands an excellent chance at having a dominating night vs. a Capitals team that is scoring just 2.5 goals per game over their last 6 games.

Vanecek has been really solid this season with a 2.13 GAA and a .917 save percentage.  He hasn’t let up more than 3 goals in any game this season and there’s no reason to think that will change tonight.  There’s also a strong chance he gets shutout number 2 tonight.

NHL DFS Stacks

Vegas 1 (Eichel, Stephenson, Stone) + Pietrangelo vs. Vancouver

The Vegas Knights get one of the softer matchups of any team playing tonight.  The Canucks have struggled defensively just about all season and if we look at a smaller sample size of the last couple of weeks, it’s no different.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’re giving up over 35 shots on goal and 3.5 goals per game.  This sets up nicely for the top line of Eichel, Stone, and Stephenson.

My core to this line is going to be Mark Stone.  Stone has been the leading goal scorer of this team over their last 5 games with 5 goals.  He’s also added an assist in there for good measure.  Next up will be Jack Eichel.  He too has 6 points in his last 5 games, just with 1 goal and 5 assists.  I expect this line to be popular tonight but for good measure.  They should smash.

Colorado 1 (MacKinnon, Lehkonen, Rantanen) + Makar vs. Dallas

While the Stars have the hottest player in the game in Jason Robertson, they’ve also been one of the poorer defensive teams right now.  And with Dallas playing last night, they’ll be leaning on backup Scott Wedgewood to try and stop this powerhouse of a line.  It’s going to be a long night for a Stars team already giving up nearly 3.3 goals per game over the last 2 weeks.

Surprisingly, the guy on the top line for the Avalanche doing the most damage right now is Artturi Lehkonen.  Over his last 5 games, Lehkonen has 7 points thanks to 3 goals and 4 assists.  He’ll be a lock in my lineup in this matchup and will look to build around him with either MacKinnon or Rantanen. MacKinnon has only scored 1 goal over his last 5 games but has an xG of 2.83.  He’s due and that should happen tonight.

New York PP1 (Nelson, Lee, Pageau, Dobson, Barzal) vs. Philadelphia

Picking on the Flyers has been a successful strategy recently.  The Flyers are 0-5-3 over their last 8 games while giving up more than 4 goals per game over that stretch.  We’ll want to pick on them whenever we can and with already going with 2 pricey stacks, we’ll want to find some lower-cost plays.  The Islanders top power-play unit will provide us with that.

The 2 guys I’m mostly focused on here will be Barzal and Pageau.  Over his last 5 games, Barzal has 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points.  He’s been playing great and that should continue tonight.  Pageau is where we really find value.  Although he plays on the third line, he does play on the top power-play unit and is only $3.1k on DK tonight.  Over his last 5 games, he has 4 goals and provides some nice upside at a cheap price.

Other Stacks: Vegas 2, Dal 1, Col 1, Van 1, NJ 1 and 2, Tor 1, Pit 1

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Rasmus Ristolainen – $2.5k on DK
  • Esa Lindell – $2.8k on Dk
  • Luke Schenn – $3.1k on DK
  • Ryan Graves – $3.1k on DK

Summary

Tonight should be a fun slate of NHL DFS.  I plan on going heavy with the Vegas Golden Knights and will sprinkle in some Avalanche and Islanders.

Welcome to the Saturday Slapshot.  We have ourselves a massive and I mean massive 13-game slate of NHL DFS tonight.  The schedule makers for the NHL have not been doing us much justice!  There are a ton of teams that will be in ideal spots for offense tonight.

Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.

NHL DFS Goaltending

Jeremy Swayman ($8.3K DK/$8.8k FD) vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Steven Conroy of the Boston Herald is projecting that Jeremy Swayman will make his return tonight vs. the Chicago Blackhawks.  Regardless of who is in the net for the Bruins tonight, I’ll be on them in cash-game lineups.  The Bruins are massive favorites tonight (-410) and while whoever mans the net tonight won’t face much in the way of shots, they stand an excellent chance of getting a shutout.

The Blackhawks’ offense right now is just about non-existent.  Over the last 2 weeks, they’ve scored just 6 goals in their last 5 games.  That’s pretty abysmal and it’s something we’ll want to attack with a goalie.  I just don’t think there will be enough upside for a takedown in a GPP, but they’ll suffice in Cash.

Joonas Korpisalo ($7.3k DK/$6.5k FD) vs. Detroit Red Wings – With Elvis Merzlikins on the shelf right now for a couple of weeks, Joonas Korpisalo is getting the run as the Blue Jackets’ main goalie.  Korpisalo will be the ideal GPP goalie tonight.  He’s cheap and is going to face a ton of shot volume as the Blue Jackets are giving up a ton of shots right now.

Over the last 2 weeks, they’ve given up close to 41 shots on goal per game.  That’s insanely high and sets us up for the 35-save bonus on DK.  On FD, his price being under $7k is extremely enticing and frees up a ton of cash.  While the Red Wings have some firepower, they haven’t been scoring in excess so if Korpisalo can get 35 saves while only giving up 2-3 goals, he should net us a ton of points on both DK and FD.

NHL DFS Stacks

Toronto 1 (Matthews, Bunting, Nylander) + Rielly vs. Buffalo

With how poorly the Sabres are playing right now, I’m all over the Maple Leafs tonight.  The Sabres are coming into this game on a 7-game losing streak.  Over that stretch, they’re giving up more than 4.5 goals per game.  This screams a breakout game for Auston Matthews.  After scoring a career-high 60 goals last season, Matthews is at a much slower pace this season.  He’s only scored 8 goals through his first 18 games and that has to be considered a disappointment.  That changes tonight as I do think the Maple Leafs top center has a monster game tonight in what should be a great scoring environment.

To balance out his price, I’m going to look to pair him with Bunting tonight who is only $3.5k on DK.  Bunting has assists in back-to-back games and if Matthews does go off, Bunting will be involved in the scoring.  We can also add Rielly to this stack.  Rielly has 6 assists in his last 6 games and is fairly priced at $5.1k for an offensive defenseman.

Vegas 2 (Karlsson, Marchessault, Smith) + McNabb vs. Edmonton

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the top line for Vegas tonight.  They should do well, but with them being on the road the Oilers should be able to put their top defensive unit up against them.  That will leave us with hopefully a little more wiggle room for the second unit to score some points for us.  Their second line is being led right now by Reilly Smith.  Over his last 6 games, Smith has 6 goals.  He’s been a goal-scoring machine and with Edmonton giving up over 4 goals per game over the last 2 weeks, he’ll have an opportunity to score more tonight.

My lean right now is to pair him with Marchessault.  March has 4 points in his last 5 games, with 3 of those being assists.  Combined, the 2 will only cost us on average a bit more than $5.7k on DK.  Vegas should score a bunch tonight and the second line will hopefully be the main scoring unit tonight.

Montreal 1 (Suzuki, Caufield, Dach) + Xhekaj vs. Philly

I’ve gone with 2 chalky teams, let’s go with a higher-risked team in Montreal.  Just a couple of weeks ago we were clamoring anytime that Carter Hart was in the net.  He was cheap and on fire.  But like FTX, the collapse of Hart has been extreme.  Over his last 4 outings, Hart has now given up 15 goals.  Not ideal for the Flyers, but hopefully ideal for us tonight and stacking against him.

Now with this line, there’s a chance at a goose egg, but I’m playing GPP’s and with that mindset, you need to take a risk.  This top line for Montreal has some firepower to it.  Caufield is a little pricey tonight at $7.1k on DK considering his recent production, but he’s still firing away on the net.  At some point, they’ll go in.  His iCF over his last 5 games is a team-leading 35.  This is a breakout environment for him tonight.  I’ll look to pair him with both Suzuki and Dach tonight.  Xhekaj is a way for us to get cheap here tonight.  He’s just $3k on DK tonight but has been averaging close to 4 shots plus blocks over his last 5.

Other Stacks: Vegas 1, TB 1 and 2, Col 1, NYR 1 and 2, Det 1, Phi 1, WPG 2, Stl 1 and 2

NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman

  • Filip Hronek – $3.8k on DK
  • Jake Christiansen – $2.5k on Dk
  • Esa Lindell – $2.9k on DK
  • Justin Schultz – $3k on DK

Summary

We have a massive slate tonight.  While these are a few of my favorite stacks tonight, there are going to be a ton of places for offense.  Vegas, Colorado, Toronto, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis all should score a bunch tonight.
