Welcome back to another Friday Night WinDaily NHL Between the Benches Article! Only a few slates left til 2023, and tonight we have a large 11-game slate tonight so there will be lots to enjoy this evening! Tonight’s 12/23 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

12/23 NHL Stack Report

1. Edmonton Oilers 1 (Hyman-McDavid-Puljajarvi)

— We’re starting off today’s article with the far and away best matchup on the slate as the league’s 3rd best offence goes up against the league’s 3rd worst defence. Statistically, this translates into a 3.65 goals-per-game average for the Oilers, while their divisional rival, the Canucks, cough up an average of 3.9 goals a game. Heading into Rogers place tonight, the Oilers hold the biggest implied total on today’s massive slate and are facing a team on the second half of a back-to-back who had a thrilling 6-5 game which ended in a shootout. In fact, the Canucks, in general, have been seeing a lot of extra ice time lately as their last six wins have either come by way of shootout or overtime, that fatigue will add up over time and I think it’ll have a part to play in tonight’s matchup against Connor McDavid (league leader in both goals and assists) and the Edmonton Oilers. Another Major target point in this matchup is power plays. The Oilers have the best power play in the league, their conversion rate is over 33%, and the Canucks Penalty Kill rate is the worst in the league at 67%, on top of that, the Canucks are also near the worst in the league in penalties drawn per game at 11, so the Oilers should have plenty of opportunities to capitalize on their league-leading power play, which all three of the top line play on as McDavid and Hyman appear on the top power-play unit and Puljajarvi appears on the Oilers second power-play unit. Overall, I’d say this is a clear mismatch, and I would urge everyone to take a piece of the Oilers for their DFS lines tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Tyson Barrie

2. Dallas Stars 1 (Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski)

— My second favourite line of the slate are the Dallas Stars, who also hold one of the highest implied totals of the slate at 4 implied goals coming in tonight at home against the Montreal Canadiens. Offensively, this matchup is a bit of a joke, the Stars are near the top of the league in most offensive stat categories, including goals per game (3.56) and shooting percentage (11.2), while the Canadiens are near the bottom of the league with a mere 2.7 goals per game average and a league’s worst 13.6% power play conversion rate. Defensively, things don’t get much better for the Canadiens, as the Stars are putting up modest defensive numbers this season, the Canadiens are giving up an average of 3.45 goals against per game and registering nearly 12 penalty minutes a game. All three of Dallas’ first line also appear on Dallas’ top power-play unit. Furthermore, Dallas’ top line in particular has been rolling as of late with 8 points over their last three games including three in their last game against the Edmonton Oilers last Wednesday. Robertson, in particular, will be a top player to watch in tonight’s game as he is just five goals shy of the league leader, Connor McDavid. Although, not as crucial as having a share of the Oilers’ top line tonight, I would definitely recommend including some shares of Dallas’ top line for your DFS Builds tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Miro Heiskanen

Honorable Mention(s): Carolina Hurricanes 1 (Svechnikov-Stastny-Necas), Calgary Flames 1 (Dube-Lindholm-Toffoli), Arizona Coyotes 1 (Schmaltz-Boyd-Keller)

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Pyotr Kochetkov
  2. Jake Oettinger
    Honorable Mention(s): Stuart Skinner

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Jonathan Quick
Honorable Mention(s): Samuel Ersson

12/23 NHL Wild Card Targets

Michael Amadio
– Even though he has not recorded a lot of points this season, he has been on a bit of a roll with points in his last two games as he has taken a role on the Golden Knights’ top line alongside Chandler Stephenson and Mark Stone as such he is seeing a spike in ice time and has been effective with it as last game, he put 5 shots on target while recording just shy of 16 minutes of ice-time. Tonight, the conference-leading Golden Knights are facing off against a middle-of-the-pack Blues team who have suffered from some shaky goaltending from starter Jordan Binnington who has given up an average of over 3 goals a game.
Honorable Mention(s): Erik Gustafsson, Dillon Dube, Mason Marchment

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Connor McDavid

Winger Mark Stone

Defenseman – Erik Gustafsson

Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov

Welcome back to another Friday Night WinDaily NHL Between the Benches Article! Only a small three-gamer slate tonight but there will be lots to enjoy this evening! Tonight’s 12/16 NHL slate begins at 8:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

12/16 NHL Stack Report

1. Minnesota Wild 1 (Zuccarello-Steel-Kaprizov)

— This is the clear mismatch of the night as the second worst team in the NHL, the Chicago Blackhawks, face off against their Central division rivals in the Minnesota Wild. Where do we begin with this one… for starters, the star of the Wild’s top line has been scoring at an insane clip, Kirill Kaprizov has points in 16 of his last 17 games and both Zucarello and Steel have been putting up points on a regular basis. One major advantage in their hopes of getting on their scoresheet tonight is their opponent. Right off the bat they have a 4.1 implied goal total, and that makes a lot of sense as the goalie they’re facing is Petr Mrazek who allowed 7 goals in his last start and holds a goals against average of 4.37 and save percentage of just .873. On top of that embarrassing stat line, the Blackhawks have lost their last five games while the Wild have won their last three. Over those five losses for the Blackhawks, they were shut out twice and gave up at least three goals a game. This is a prime opportunity to exploit the one pure mismatch of the night, yes they will be chalky but you won’t want to be left behind when they hit bit.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Jared Spurgeon (cheaper alternative Calen Addison)

2. Calgary Flames 1 (Dube-Kadri-Mangiapane)

— Despite Calgary’s recent struggles this line has been putting together some solid performances on the ice. Both Dube and Mangiapane have three points over their last three games and Kadri has six points over his last six games, with all three getting on the score sheet in the razor thin loss against the Vancouver Canucks last Wednesday. Tonight, they’re up against a Blues side who is not only on the second half of a back-to-back but the game they took part in last night was extra exhausting as they came back late against the Oilers to tie the game with a short-handed goal, only to give up a goal to McDavid in overtime which was then called back for offside and then the Blues were finally able to win it in a shootout. After a rollercoaster like that, any team would be rightly exhausted going into their second of two games on the road. This gives the Flames an excellent opportunity to capitalize against backup keeper Thomas Greiss who holds a 3-4-0 record along with a 3.69 GAA and a Save Percentage just below .900. The Flames are also coming into this game with the second highest implied total of the slate at 3.7 and every member of the Flames second line sees time on the Flames power play with Kadri on the top unit and Dube and Mangiapane on the second unit. I would recommend including some of the Flames second line in your Daily Fantasy lineups tonight!

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Rasmus Andersson

Honorable Mention(s): New York Islanders 1 (Lee-Barzal-Wahlstrom), Calgary Flames 1 (Huberdeau-Lindholm-Toffoli)

12/16 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Marc-Andre Fleury
  2. Ilya Sorokin
    Honorable Mention(s): Dan Vladar

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Karel Vejmelka
Honorable Mention(s): Petr Mrazek

12/16 NHL Wild Card Targets

Frederick Gaudreau
– Even though he is not alongside Kaprizov and Zuccarello. Gaudreau has been putting together a couple of solid performances as of late as he has three goals over his last two games and he’s steadily seeing over 13 minutes of ice time per game. We previously discussed the weaknesses of Petr Mrazek earlier in the article and Gaudreau is an affordable way to get some exposure on the Wild as I recommend that you target Mrazek in one form or another tonight, whether it is through the top line of the slate or a value piece like Gaudreau or Matt Boldy.
Honorable Mention(s): Brock Nelson, Matt Boldy, Mikael Backlund, Lawson Crouse

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Nazem Kadri

Winger Kirill Kaprizov

Defenseman – Rasmus Andersson

Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury

We’re back for another WinDaily NHL Between the Benches Article! Lots of action tonight, and from the early games to the late, there will be lots to enjoy this evening! For tonight’s 12/9 NHL slate, we have a large-sized ten-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

12/9 NHL Stack Report

1. Calgary Flames 2 (Dube-Kadri-Mangiapane)

— The Flames have been an interesting side and although this season has been a bit of a roller coaster, their recent form has been as good as their name suggests, hot. Both teams in this matchup are coming into tonight’s game with three game streaks, with the Flames winning their last three and the Blue Jackets dropping their last three. In fact, over those three games, the Blue Jackets have coughed up an embarrassing 17 goals, that’s almost 6 goals against per game, including 6 that they gave up to the Sabres in the FIRST PERIOD of their last game. The Jackets looked one step behind for the entire game and I don’t think that things will look much different heading into tonight. Defensively, the Flames are leaps and bounds ahead of the Blue Jackets as Columbus holds the league’s worst goals against average per game at 4.16. Which is why it should come as no surprise that the Flames currently hold an implied goal total tonight of 4.1. Both of Calgary’s top two lines are solid options for tonight’s slate but I recommend taking the second line since they have been hotter as of late, and they are cheaper overall, which will help when trying to stack the other recommended line in today’s article. The Flames have also averaged over four goals over their current win streak and the second line in particular has scored 5 goals and four assists over that three game stretch!

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Rasmus Andersson

2. Boston Bruins 1 (Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk)

—This is the most significant mismatch of today’s slate and no matter what I would recommend having a piece of this game, whether it be the top, second or even the third line of the Boston Bruins. Straight away the first thing to note is that the bruins have only lost 3 games in regulation and one game in a shootout, that’s it, 21-3-1. A simply unbelievable start to their 2022-23 season. As a result, it should come as no surprise that the Bruins are heavy favourites coming into any matchup. However, tonight in particular, the Bruins are facing the 7-13-4 Coyotes who have lost their last six games and hold a 1-2-1 record at home. Statistically, this matchup is a bit of a joke, the Bruins either lead the league or are near the top in nearly every stat category, whereas the Coyotes are near the bottom if not dead last (dead last in shots on goal per game). For instance, in goals per game the Bruins have a 1.33 + advantage (3.96 to 2.63) and in goals allowed per game, the Bruins have a 1.55+ advantage (2.08 to 3.63). Every single stat category is very similar as on paper, the Bruins are better in every single way. I see this game’s scoreline getting out of hand very quickly, and I would recommend having a piece of the Bruins in your DFS lineups tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Charlie McAvoy (value option Matt Grzelcyk)

Honorable Mention(s): San Jose Sharks 2 (Bonino-Couture-Barabanov), New Jersey Devils 2 (Haula-Hughes-Mercer)

12/9 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Linus Ullmark
  2. Vitek Vanecek
Honorable Mention(s): Tristan Jarry, David Rittich

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Joonas Korpisalo
Honorable Mention(s): Karel Vejmelka

12/9 NHL Wild Card Targets

Taylor Hall
– Despite being on the Bruins third line, Hall is steadily seeing over 14 minutes of ice time per game this season and he’s recently put together a four game point streak in which he has scored five goals and two assists. He did not have the best start to the season but he has really come into form as of late and tonight against the Yotes, who as previously mentioned, are really struggling this season. Hall could provide good value and would give you a piece of what is looking like a lopsided and high scoring game.
Honorable Mention(s): Bryan Rust, Tyler Toffoli, Dylan Strome

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Nazem Kadri

Winger Brad Marchand

Defenseman – Rasmus Andersson

Goalie Linus Ullmark

We’re back for another Friday of WinDaily NHL content! Although we have a smaller slate tonight, all three games are packed with action! For tonight’s 12/2 NHL slate, we have a small-sized three-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

12/2 NHL Stack Report

1. Winnipeg Jets 1 (Perfetti-Scheifele-Wheeler)

— The Jets have the best odds and the highest implied total of this small three game slate with -245 and 4.1 xG respectively. This is because this matchup pits one of the best all-around teams in the league against one of the worst all around teams in the league this season. Not only that but going into this matchup the Jets are coming into this game on a three-game winning streak, while the Blue Jackets are coming into tonight’s game on a two game losing streak. The Jets have relied heavily on their top two lines for the majority of their scoring throughout the season and I am slightly leaning towards the Jets’ top line as they have been a little more consistent as of late. In their last game alone, Winnipeg’s top line put up four goals and six assists amongst themselves! On top of that, the goalie they’re going up against tonight, Joonas Korpisalo, holds a 3-4-1 record, a 3.76 goals against average and a save percentage below .900. Simply abysmal but not surprising given the season the Jackets have had to this point. One final note on this game is that the game will be taking place in Winnipeg and the Jets currently hold a home ice record of 8-2-0, whereas the Blue Jackets are a measly 1-4-1 on the road, talk about a home ice advantage!

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Josh Morrissey

2. New York Rangers 1 (Kreider-Zibanejad-Vesey)

— Although not as lopsided as the Jets and Blue Jackets game, the Rangers vs Sens game also has a clear favourite with a high implied total at 3.8 xG. These two teams actually just played each other two days ago in Ottawa and the Rangers were able to snap a three game losing streak and walk away with a 3-1 win with the Rangers top line contributing in two of the three goals scored. Tonight, these two teams will meet up again at MSG with all the momentum on the Rangers side of the ice. Although these two teams have similar offensive stats this season, their defensive stats show a stark difference. The Rangers are near the top of the league in goals allowed and shots allowed with 2.79 and 29.2 respectively, whereas the Sens give up 3.36 goals per game and nearly 34 shots against respectively. These are stats that you can’t give up against any team, let alone the Rangers. The Rangers will rely heavily on their top line tonight and I think they will walk away with the win here, comfortably.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Adam Fox (value option Ryan Lindgren)

Honorable Mention(s): New York Islanders 2 (Lee-Nelson-Beauvilier), Ottawa Senators 1 (B. Tkachuk-Stüzle-Giroux)

12/2 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Igor Shesterkin
  2. Ilya Sorokin
    Honorable Mention(s): David Rittich

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Joonas Korpisalo
Honorable Mention(s): Kevin Lankinen

12/2 NHL Wild Card Targets

Morgan Barron
– The late 2017 draft pick has successfully secured a spot on the Jets roster and thus far he has not disappointed. He’s put up five points over his last six games (1 goal, 4 assists) and is steadily seeing more ice time with each passing game. In his last game, he saw 16 minutes of ice time and was on the second line alongside Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois. It’s been amazing to see his steady rise and I don’t think he’s done yet, Barron still has a lot to prove if he wants to keep his spot in the top six down the line.
Honorable Mention(s): Zach Parise, Ryan Pulock, Ryan Lindgren

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Mika Zibanejad

Winger Blake Wheeler

Defenseman – Ryan Lindgren

Goalie Igor Sharangovich

After a crazy week of games, we have reached our Friday article, and we have a lot of interesting options in today’s slate! Without further ado, for tonight’s 11/11 NHL slate, we have a small-sized four-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

11/11 NHL Stack Report

1. Minnesota Wild 1 (Kaprizov-Gaudreau-Zuccarello)

— We’re starting off the article with the latest game of the slate as the Minnesota Wild are taking on the Seattle Kraken out west. The Kraken have been surprisingly good this season, as they have one their last five games and for the most part Martin Jones has been holding up between the pipes (Although, historically, he’s been the king of inconsistency). However, interestingly, the Kraken have had most of their success on the road while holding a losing record in their own arena with the same being true for the Wild, where they seem to dominate on the road and struggle at home. With today’s game taking place in Seattle the Wild may actually end up having a bit of an advantage based on how the season has gone to this point. (The Kraken just blanked the Wild 4-0 in Minnesota about a week ago)

The Wild have seen some decent goaltending out of Fleury but he does have the odd game where he just isn’t playing at the standard he should be. Even if the Wild haven’t been able to fully bail him out of games, they still put up a lot of points to keep it interesting. Kaprizov is far and away the star on this line. He started off the season extremly hot as he had a seven game point streak but has been a little inconsistent since then. Last game however, he pounced on the Ducks for two goals and nine shots over nearly 23 minutes of ice time. Every member of this line sees time on the Minnesota power play with Kaprizov and Zuccarello on the top line and Gaudreau on the second unit.

Odds wise, this game is coming in really close as the Wild currently have a small advantage according to the sportsbooks (-115 and a 3.4 implied goal total) but more importantly, with a line that is set at 6.5, Vegas is expect a boat load of goals out of this matchup.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Jared Spurgeon (Calen Addison is a cheaper alternative)

2. Dallas Stars 1 (Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski)

— This line has been pumping out goals left right and center. Robertson alone has embarked on a six game goal streak, which has included seven goals and give assists. His linemates aren’t too far behind him as Hintz has put up 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) over the length of Robertson’s goal streak and Pavelski has put up 5 (2 goals, 3 assists). The Dallas Stars have been one of the most high flying offences in the NHL this season as they currently sit in fourth place in goals per game as they are averaging 3.62. On top of that, they are coming into this matchup as -226 favourite with the best implied total of the slate at 3.7 and are facing the team with the lowest implied total in the Sharks who are at 2.5 at the time of writing. The Sharks defense is extremley shaky as they have been allowing 3.29 goals per game and they have dropped their last five games. With this being on the road in Texas, I think the Sharks are facing a massive hill to climb. I never like to count out James Reimer but it wouldn’t make sense to avoid the Stars in this slate.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Miro Heiskanen

Honorable Mention(s): Toronto Maple Leafs 1 (Kerfoot-Matthews-Marner), Seattle Kraken 1 (Bjorkstrand-Wennberg-Burakovsky)

11/11 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Andrei Vasilevskiy (Vasilevskiy has consistently been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL, he’s appeared in the top three for goalie of the year in four of the last five years. Despite a shaky start to the season, he’s coming up against one of the lowest goal producing teams in the NHL this season in the Washington Capitals who are 27th in the league in goalscoring with 2.73 goals per game. Not to mention that the Capitals have one of the lowest implied totals of the slate at 2.8. Finally, Vasilevskiy and the Lightning are coming into this one at around -150 at time of writing)
  2. Erik Kallgren
    Honorable Mention(s): Scott Wedgewood

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Martin Jones
Honorable Mention(s): Marc-Andre Fleury, James Reimer

11/11 NHL Wild Card Targets

Brandon Hagel
– Hagel has been as hot as it gets. Over his last three, he scored twice and netted three assists. After a shaky first few games, Hagel has found his footing and has become a consistent scorer on the top line alongside Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point. Because of his performances, he’s seen an increase in ice time to around 18 to 19 minutes a game and has been seeing shifts on Tampa’s top power play unit. Hagel is a very affordable way to get correlation with Tampa’s top line while also picking someone who has been putting up great stats consistently.
Honorable Mention(s): Brandon Tanev, Alex Killorn, Matt Boldy

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Auston Matthews

Winger Kirill Kaprizov (or Brandon Hagel)

Defenseman – Miro Heiskanen

Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy

I hope everyone has had a successful week filled with lots of NHL wins. We have reached our Friday article, and we have a great slate coming at you today! Without further ado, for tonight’s 10/28 NHL slate, we have a medium-sized five-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

10/28 NHL Stack Report

1. Pittsburgh Penguins 1 (Rust-Crosby-Rakell)

— The Vancouver Canucks just got their first win of the season last night as they beat the Seattle Kraken 5-4. This comes after an abysmal start to the season, which saw them lose their first seven games of the season. Will last night’s win change the fortunes of the Canucks? I wouldn’t bet on it. Especially considering the fact that they’re coming in from Seattle on the second half of a back-to-back against a Pens team who currently sits 4-2-1, which also means that the Canucks will be starting their backup goalie Spencer Martin. The Pens also have an extremely high-powered offence which puts them in first place in goals per game in the entire league (4.29 GPG) and second in shots on goal in the entire league (38.1 SOG/game). On top of that, the Pens are coming in with the highest implied total of the slate at 3.8 goals. All three members of the top line also appear on the Pens’ top power play unit, and you get a discount on the Pens’ usual top line as Rakell is replacing an injured Jake Guentzel. I think the Canucks will come out looking tired and will be a step behind the Pens for the entire game.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Kris Letang

2. Winnipeg Jets 2 (Perfetti-Dubois-Wheeler)

— The Jets are in a very different position than the Pens as they are the ones coming into tonight’s game on the second half of a back-to-back following a 6-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings. However, the Coyotes have nearly had as bad of a start to the season as the Canucks, losing four of their first six games. The Jets have won their last two and currently sit at over three goals scored per game. More importantly, however, is that the Coyotes hold the League’s worst goals allowed average per game at 4.83, which is coupled with a 4.77 GAA from their starter Karel Vejmelka. It then should come as no surprise that the Jets are coming into tonight’s slate with the second-highest implied goal total at 3.7. The Jets’ second line has been far more consistent than the top line, and you’ll see a similar time on ice out of the second line when compared to the top line as well. All three of the members of the second line see power play time, with Dubois and Wheeler on the top unit and Perfetti on the second unit. All in all, I see the Jets as a much more complete team with a higher-powered offence, and I see a defensive liability in the Arizona Coyotes. Expect a lot of goals in this matchup.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Josh Morrissey

Honorable Mention(s): Colorado Avalanche 1 (Lehkonen-MacKinnon-Rantanen)

10/28 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Alexandar Georgiev (Georgiev has four of five wins to start the season, only losing one game in OT to the Jets. On top of that, the Devils have the highest shots-on-goal per-game average in the league but are nowhere near the top in goals meaning that a lot of their shots are low-danger scoring chances which will translate into a lot of fantasy points and the Avalanche are coming into tonight’s game as the favourites)
  2. Tristan Jarry
    Honorable Mention(s): Frederick Andersen

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Karel Vejmelka
Honorable Mention(s): Elvis Merzlikins, Spencer Martin, Vitek Vanecek

10/28 NHL Wild Card Targets

Martin Necas
– For our first returning Wild Card target of the season, we are going to none other than Martin Necas. Necas has been a superstar for the Canes this season, scoring 8 points in six games (3 goals and 5 assists). He’s shockingly been seeing more ice time than both Aho and Svechnikov, and he’s been seeing time on the Canes’ top power-play unit. Necas is slowly becoming a favorite for coach Rod Brind’Amour as due in part to Necas’ efforts, the Canes currently sit 4-1-1 to start the season. Offensively, this game isn’t the most explosive of the slate, but the Canes currently sit at 3.3 implied goals and have the best odds of the slate at -190. I would recommend using Necas while he is still underpriced on both FanDuel and Draftkings.
Honorable Mention(s): Jeff Carter, Valeri Nichushkin, Yegpr Sharangovich

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Pierre-Luc Dubois

Winger Bryan Rust

Defenseman – Cale Makar

Goalie Alexandar Georgiev

Welcome to the Man Advantage for October 24, 2022! We are entering the third week of the NHL season already, can you believe it?! All four sports are in full swing, and the World Series is set. It’s a beautiful time of year for sports fans. Tonight, we get a nice little six game slate that should be really fun to watch. There are quite a few places to go tonight, and this should be a high scoring slate for it being six games. Every team on the slate is projected to score 3+ goals, so we are going to have to be perfect to make some good money. Good luck!

Goalies

Frederik Andersen – Carolina Hurricanes: Freddie and the Canes continue their West Coast swing with an away matchup against the Canucks tonight. The Canes are one of the highest totals on the board, and Andersen is sporting a solid 2.35 GAA so far this season. A road matchup is sometimes risky, but this feels like a safe play among a lot of risk tonight. This is a late game, so make sure you keep an eye on the news through the day to confirm he gets the start.

Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues: Binnington faces the Jets tonight on the road in what should be a fairly tight game. His numbers are fantastic so far this season, with a GAA of 1.65 and a SV% of 0.94. The shot volume in this game should be fairly low, as both teams are producing less than 30 shots for per game. However, this play is more about the win and it’s hard to see Binnington giving up more than a goal or two.

Scott Wedgewood – Dallas Stars: Just as we published the article, the news broke about Greiss getting the start over Binnington in St. Louis, which moves Wedgewood into the slot for Binnington.

High Risk Goalie Pick -Mackenzie Blackwood – New Jersey Devils: The Devils feel like an incredibly sneaky play tonight as they host the Capitals. When Toronto, Edmonton, and Pittsburgh are all on the slate, teams like this (and their goalies) tend to fly under the radar. The shot volume for Blackwood should be there, and his numbers have looked pretty good so far.

Others to Consider: Anton Forsberg (OTT), Logan Thompson (VGK)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Carolina Hurricanes Power Play – Sebastian Aho/Martin Necas/Stefan Noesen/Andrei Svechnikov/Brent Burns: The Canes’ power play is ranked in the middle of the pack so far this season, but the Vancouver penalty kill is ranked almost last. There may not be many chances for the Canes on the power play, but this gets you access to the top two even strength lines, which is a great setup for tonight. The focus here should be Aho/Svechnikov/Burns, but the addition of Noesen and/or Necas should make you pretty different and save you some salary.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Evgeni Malkin/Jason Zucker/Bryan Rust/Kris Letang: The second line for the Pens has been great so far this year, and they have a chance to continue their solid play tonight against Edmonton. This line should see the likes of the second Edmonton line for most of the night, and that sets them up very nicely. Malkin/Rust play on the power play, so pairing them with Letang makes this a hybrid second line/power play look.

New Jersey Devils Power Play – Jack Hughes/Nico Hischier/Dawson Mercer/Jesper Bratt/Dougie Hamilton: As mentioned earlier, this feels like a very sneaky play tonight. On the young season, the Capitals’ PK ranks in the bottom 10 of the league, and the Devils’ power play is ranked 11th. The Devils will also be facing Charlie Lindgren in net, who is sporting a 3.18 GAA so far this season. The Devils look real good tonight.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Carolina Hurricanes 2 – Jesperi Kotkaniemi/Andrei Svechnikov/Martin Necas: Another way to roll out the Canes tonight is just to play the second line straight up. It’s a slight wrinkle from the power play above, but at a discount. Necas/Svechnikov/Burns should be a unique way to stack this line as well, and carries power play correlation. This line has been producing very well so far this year, and they are in a very good spot tonight.

St. Louis Blues Power Play – Robert Thomas/Brayden Schenn/Vladimir Tarasenko/Ivan Barbashev/Torey Krug: The Blues’ power play comes into tonight ranked 7th overall, while the Jets’ penalty kill is ranked dead last in the league. There should be a good opportunity for this unit to put up some points on the Jets tonight. This look also gets you access across multiple lines, which is a good way to stack the Blues, as their scoring can tend to be spread out.

Vegas Golden Knights 3 – William Karlsson/Jonathan Marchessault/Mike Amadio: The Golden Knights host the Leafs tonight, and this line could be very sneaky. They are a value line that could produce a bit of upside.

Winnipeg Jets 2 – Pierre-Luc Dubois/Cole Perfetti/Blake Wheeler: This is another second line that has been playing well of late, and they deserve a mention tonight against the Blues. They are probably the highest risk on this list, based on Binnington’s play so far, but they will definitely be contrarian. Make sure you don’t stack them against Binnington in the same lineup.

Welcome back, everyone, after a strong article last Friday, we’re back! As mentioned last week, I’ll be writing weekly every Friday for WinDaily NHL. You can also catch more of my content in the MMA tab for every UFC card! Without further ado, for tonight’s 10/21 NHL slate, we have a small three-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:30 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

10/21 NHL Stack Report

1. Colorado Avalanche 1 (Lehkonen-MacKinnon-Rantanen)

— This line is fairly clear as the far-and-away favourite of the slate. Colorado’s top line has clearly been one of the best lines in hockey and although it is in full form when Landeskog (knee injury) is on the wing, they are still a strong force with Lehkonen, and it brings down the overall price of the line. Tonight the Avalanche are coming up against the Seattle Kraken, an expansion team who had an abysmal season last year and has started off cold to begin this season with a 1-2-2 record. The Kraken’s goaltending has been terrible as Grubauer has not improved from last season with a current GAA of 4.26 and a SV % of .851. This team has so many defensive holes and this game is simply a mismatch as one of the worst defensive teams (4 GA per game) is coming up against one of the best offensive teams in the NHL (4.25 GPG). Not to mention, this line remains in tact during the Aves Power Plays and each player averages around 20 minutes of ice time a game. This line is a must-play, especially in Cash Game formats.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Cale Makar (Devon Toews works as a salary saver)

2. Florida Panthers 2 (Tkachuk-Bennett-Balcers)

— This is an interesting matchup as the Battle of Florida now has two Stanley Cup contenders competing against each other. Both have solid goaltending, extremely powerful offence and middle-of-the-road defence. To be honest, it was hard to decide between favouring the Panthers or the Lightning in this matchup but the Panthers have simply had the stronger start to the season, coming into this one 3-1-0 compared to Tampa Bay who are 1-3-0. Although Florida’s top line is very strong, I think there’s more value in Florida’s second line. This line is more affordable than the top line, more consistent and have all contributed to Florida’s scoring with each player recording at least two points in Florida’s last two games. Not to mention, all three of them see power play time with Tkachuk and Bennett on the top Power Play line and Balcers on the second unit. Currently, both Tampa and Florida are tied for the highest implied goal total on the slate at 3.6 and Florida is slightly favoured to win the game. One thing is for sure, we can expect plenty of goals in this matchup and you will want to have some pieces of this game in your fantasy builds tonight, my favourite of the bunch being Florida’s second line.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Gustav Forsling (Radko Gudas works as a salary saver, consider Montour if he is back)

Honorable Mention(s): Detroit Red Wings 1 (Kubalik-Larkin-Raymond)

10/21 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Alexandar Georgiev
  2. Ville Husso
    Honorable Mention(s): Sergei Bobrovsky

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Phillipp Grubauer
Honorable Mention(s): Petr Mrazek

10/21 NHL Wild Card Targets

David Perron
– Life for Perron in Motown has been pretty successful thus far. Over the first three games of the season, Perron has registered four points (3 G, 1 A) including a three-point performance in his last game against the Los Angeles Kings. Tonight, Perron and the Wings are up against a Chicago side which was notoriously bad last season and have struggled to start this season with their only win coming against the 1-5-0 Sharks. Matchups between the Wings and Hawks always tend to be exciting especially since both teams were part of the NHLs Original Six and shared a division for a long period of time. Also, neither team has a solidified goalie situation, albeit Chicago is in a much riskier position, starting a goalie who was the Leafs backup last season and spent most of the year out with an injury. All this means is that you can expect a fair amount of goals out of this matchup and we can definitely be sure that Perron will partake in the scoring.
Honorable Mention(s): Carter Verhaeghe, Valeri Nichushkin, Oliver Bjorkstrand

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Nathan MacKinnon

Winger Matthew Tkachuk

Defenseman – Cale Makar

Goalie Alexandar Georgiev

We get a little bit of a hockey reprieve tonight with a small three game Wednesday slate. Early season data is skewed, so with a small slate, it is encouraged to play light. Keep it casual for NHL, and maybe check out our NBA content to get you geared up for the first big slate of the year. The one and only Ghost has you covered on all of our NBA news and notes. Good luck tonight!

Goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky – Florida Panthers: The Panthers host the Flyers tonight, who have been winning for some reason. They are a surprising 3-0-0 on the season, but will have their hands full with the Panthers tonight. Bob makes for a solid play tonight, as the back-to-back should factor in here for the Flyers.

Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues: The Blues head to Seattle, where goaltending has been a bit of an issue. Both Jones and Grubauer are sporting GAAs over 3.00. The team as a whole is giving up 4 goals against per game so far this season. The Blues should be able to win this game, and Binnington should be a big part of that.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Felix Sandstrom – Philadelphia Flyers: Sandstrom draws his first start of the season on the road in Florida tonight. This is merely an upside risk play meant for deep GPPs. He should see a whole bunch of shot volume, and if he snags a win, that will be an added bonus.

Others to Consider: Martin Jones (SEA)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Colorado Avalanche 1 – Nathan MacKinnon/Valeri Nichushkin/Artturi Lehkonen/Cale Makar: Expect this line to be mega chalk tonight, as we can get them at a discount. They are at home against the Jets, and they should have no problem against Hellebuyck tonight.

St. Louis Blues 1- Robert Thomas/Pavel Buchnevich/Vladimir Tarasenko/Torey Krug: The Blues are in a fantastic spot tonight and may actually end up being a little bit of leverage.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Florida Panthers Power Play – Aleksander Barkov/Sam Bennett/Patric Hornqvist/Matthew Tkachuck/Sam Reinhart: The Panthers appear to be rolling out a forward-only power play look tonight, so that ends up being a little bit tough to stack. The best way to go about this is to find the guys who correlate at regular strength and share time on the power play. For example, Barkov/Reinhart is a good pairing from this mix.

Philadelphia Flyers 1 – Kevin Hayes/Joel Farabee/Travis Konecny/Tony DeAngelo: The whole Flyers team has been a surprise so far, scoring 3.67 goals per game on this young season. The top line is the preferred look here, but with the back-to-back, they carry a good bit of risk.

Seattle Kraken 2 – Matty Beniers/Jaden Schwartz/Jordan Eberle: Beniers will center Eberle and Schwartz tonight in a very interesting look. This is a new line, so we don’t know how they will mesh together, but they are worth a look for leverage tonight. The top Seattle look of Wennberg/Bjorkstrand/Burakovsky is very interesting as well.

Colorado Avalanche 3 – JT Compher/Andrew Cogliano/Logan O’Connor: On a short slate with teams with massive totals, it makes sense to go for depth. Running this line will get you access to a massive 4 goal projected total at basically no ownership. If they happen to outplay the top line, then you will be counting your money.

Florida Panthers 3 – Anton Lundell/Eetu Luostarinen/Colin White: The same approach for Colorado applies to the Panthers tonight. The Cats have a 4.4 implied goal total, and this line is potentially more viable than Colorado 3.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: WPG1, SEA1, STL2,

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: Alexander Wennberg ($2800) – Seattle Kraken

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Alex Wennberg ($4000) – Seattle Kraken

Wing: Joel Farabee ($3000) – Philadelphia Flyers

Defense: Colton Parayko ($3600) – St. Louis Blues

Cash Considerations – DraftKings and FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays for your cash lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. Cash lineups do not need to be stacked, and it is recommended to play no more than two players from a given team.

It is not recommended to play cash games on a three game slate.

Player Props

Two bigger slates in a row?! We had a nine game slate last night, followed up by an eight game slate tonight. Things are starting to settle into their patterns, and we are starting to find out who is good and who isn’t. It’s been a fun start to the season, and we will try to continue that tonight. Here comes the Hot Shot for Tuesday, 10/18. Good luck!

Goalies

Ilya Sorokin – New York Islanders: The Islanders host the Sharks tonight, and this is a good spot for Sorokin. The Sharks are only scoring 1.5 goals per game on this young season, and Sorokin is a solid goalie. The Islanders play a slow, defensive style, so the Sharks may have a struggle on their hands tonight.

Andrei Vasilevskiy – Tampa Bay Lightning: Vas and the Lightning host the surprisingly 2-0 Flyers tonight, which may end up pushing some ownership off of him. The jury is still out, though, on if the Flyers are actually a decent team. Roll Vas out with confidence tonight.

Jacob Markstrom – Calgary Flames: The Flames and Markstrom host the Golden Knights tonight, who have been struggling to score. Calgary has been giving up 3 goals against per game, so this one carries a little more risk, but this is still a solid play.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Carter Hart – Philadelphia Flyers: On the other side of the Lightning game, Hart has been playing fairly well in the young season. However, this is more of a volume pick. The Lightning should fire a ton of shots at Hart, so he could see some save upside. The Lightning have also been struggling a little offensively, putting up just 2.67 goals per game so far this season.

Others to Consider: Jeremy Swayman (BOS), Stuart Skinner (EDM), Spencer Martin (VAN)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Edmonton Oilers Power Play – Connor McDavid/Leon Draisaitl/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins/Evander Kane/Tyson Barrie: The obvious play on the slate tonight is the Oilers at home against Buffalo. With a whopping 4.4 projected goal total, they are primed for cash and single entry tournaments tonight. MME GPP players should strongly consider being under the field with their exposure to this line. Don’t fade them completely in GPP, but consider that the salaries will likely force you into some ugly punts that may not work out.

Boston Bruins 1 – Patrice Bergeron/Taylor Hall/Jake Debrusk/Hampus Lindholm: The Bruins’ top line has been quietly playing very well. Boston as a team has been putting up 5.33 goals per game, and they may get overlooked tonight. Keep in mind that they are on the back end of a traveling back-to-back, but they should still be in a great spot tonight against Ottawa.

Tampa Bay Lightning Power Play – Brayden Point/Steven Stamkos/Nikita Kucherov/Vladislav Namestnikov/Victor Hedman: The Lightning host the Flyers tonight, and they should be in a really good spot. Of course, if you choose to play Hart (our high risk goalie), then you shouldn’t put this unit in the same lineup. This unit has been known to be lethal, and they have a good chance against a Flyers team that we really don’t know about yet.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

New Jersey Devils 2 – Jack Hughes/Yegor Sharangovich/Jesper Bratt: We kick off a long list of high risk lines with the second Devils’ line, who will be going against the Ducks on home ice. They are high risk because the Devils have been underperforming so far this year, but they have a chance to right the ship tonight against a porous Anaheim defense and goalie.

New York Islanders 1 – Brock Nelson/Anthony Beauvillier/Anders Lee/Ryan Pulock: The Islanders are not a flashy or ‘sexy’ play on any given night, but there is no doubt they are in a good spot tonight. They host the Sharks tonight and should definitely see their chances. This is a play that could be a little different and has a great potential for scoring upside.

Calgary Flames 1 – Elias Lindholm/Jonathan Huberdeau/Tyler Toffoli/Rasmus Andersson: The Flames have a good matchup tonight at home against Vegas. This top line has been decent, but still feels like there is room for upside. They are high risk because Thompson for Vegas has been playing well to start the year.

Anaheim Ducks 1 – Trevor Zegras/Adam Henrique/Troy Terry: The Ducks face the Devils tonight, and this game has potential to be a scoring fest. If it turns into that, then this line is in a great spot tonight.

Vegas Golden Knights 3 – William Karlsson/Paul Cotter/Jonathan Marchessault: The Calgary/Vegas game could also be a higher scoring game, and this line has been sneakily playing well. They should be super low-owned, and provide a decent value to fill in your lineups.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: NJD1, VAN1, OTT2, PHI2, LAK2, NSH1, BUF1, BOS2
