We are back tonight with another smaller slate. Tonight, we get 4 games that should be pretty close, so this is going to be a very tough slate. Let’s look at the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Alexandar Georgiev – Colorado Avalanche: The Avs host the Bruins tonight in what should be a great game to watch. Both of these clubs are solid, and they have been playing well of late. This game should end up being tightly contested, and Georgiev has some solid numbers of late.

Matt Murray – Dallas Stars: The Stars head to Minnesota to face the Wild tonight in what should also be a tight game. Murray is playable, as Minnesota has been struggling.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Marc-Andre Fleury – Minnesota Wild: The Wild host the Stars tonight, and MAF has had some decent numbers recently. The Stars are coming into this game generating a ton of chances, but mostly at home. This is a spot that should see some upside.

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Dallas Stars Power Play – Roope Hintz/Jason Robertson/Joe Pavelski/Jamie Benn/Matt Duchene: The Stars have the 12th ranked power play unit, and Minnesota has the 28th ranked PK unit, setting this group up for a very solid night. The Wild take the 5th most penalties per game, so there should be ample opportunity for them tonight. Keep an eye on this one tonight, as Heiskanen is out. Duchene is listed as the 5th member of this unit currently, but could end up being Harley.

Vancouver Canucks Power Play – Elias Pettersson/JT Miller/Brock Boeser/Andrei Kuzmenko/Quinn Hughes: The Canucks head to New York tonight to face the Rangers, who have been up and down this season. Shesterkin specifically has been very inconsistent, and this unit should see some decent chances tonight.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Colorado Avalanche 1 – Nathan MacKinnon/Mikko Rantanen/Jonathan Drouin/Cale Makar: This line is about the only one in Colorado that we can trust at this point, and they have a decent matchup tonight. Swayman hasn’t been great for the Bruins recently, so that ups their chances if he gets the start.

Vancouver Canucks 2 – Pius Suter/Ilya Mikheyev/Andrei Kuzmenko: This line has a small sample size, but good numbers. They should see the top line for the Rangers tonight in a plus matchup. On a night that is a hard slate, we need to find the variance. This looks like a solid place to find it.

Philadelphia Flyers 1 – Sean Couturier/Travis Konecny/Joel Farabee/Travis Sanheim: The Flyers/Pens game feels like it could be the most wide open game of the night, and this line (Konecny specifically) has been on fire. The Flyers don’t generally match lines, and they are constantly shuffling up their lines through a game, but this unit is in a good spot against a hated rival in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Penguins Power Play – Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin/Jake Guentzel/Rickard Rakell/Erik Karlsson: The other side of the Flyers/Pens has a good matchup as well, so feel free to mix and match from this game. Malkin and Crosby have always been a thorn in the Flyers’ side, so expect them to continue that tonight.

We’re back with another edition of WinDaily’s Between the Benches. Now that the holidays are officially behind us, we can dive into the first Friday Night slate of the year! We have a nice three-gamer for tonight’s Friday Night 1/4 NHL slate. The first puck drop begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

1/4 NHL Stack Report

1. Carolina Hurricanes 1 (Svechnikov-Aho-Teravainen)

— The Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the hottest teams in hockey as of late. With four wins and 19 goals over their last four games, they have simply been unstoppable. The Hurricanes have gotten contributions from up and down the lineup but none have contributed quite like the top line (specifically Aho and Svechnikov). Aho has put up 12 points over the four game streak and Svechnikov has recorded eight points, which equates to 1/3 of his season total in points, in only four games. Their opponents the Capitals have gone a little cold as of late dropping five of their last six games and giving up five goals or more in three of the five games. Now, with this being a small slate, this is actually one of the closer matchups of the night, but, despite that, the oddsmakers still have the Hurricanes scoring big tonight with a 3.4 implied goal total. There will be a a lot of goals in this matchup, and with the way the Hurricanes’ top line has been playing as of late, they are my top choice for a line stack on tonight’s slate. (Although Teuvo Teravainen is not a bad option in this spot, I would recommend completing the stack with Brent Burns as he has been getting more points during the Hurricanes current winning streak)

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Brent Burns (Value: Brady Skjei)

2. New Jersey Devils 1 (Toffoli-Hughes-Bratt)

— The Devils are the heaviest favorites on this slate for a reason. Despite their overall record, they have one of the strongest offenses in the league, regularly recording 3 or more goals per game with their scoring largely coming from their top line talents. This is especially true with the Devils top center, Jack Hughes who despite getting a little derailed following an injury, has managed to jump on a five-game point streak and register 45 points over just 31 games. His linemate Jesper Bratt is not too far behind with 43 points in 36 games and five points over his last three games. All these offensive stats are further enhanced by the fact that the Devils are facing off against the Chicago Blackhawks. Not only are the Blackhawks on the second half of a back-to-back (lost 4-1 to the New York Rangers) while the Devils are coming into this game rested, but the game is in New Jersey’s home arena. Statistically, this is a terrible matchup for the Blackhawks. They currently sit 31st in Goals allowed per game (3.76) and are on the wrong end of a four game losing streak. All this while the Devils are coming in to this game with one of the best offenses in the league, scoring an average of 3.53 goals per game. The statistics clearly favor the Devils over the Blackhawks tonight and the oddsmakers agree with the Devils coming in with the highest implied total (-4.5) and best odds (-400) on the slate.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Luke Hughes

Honorable Mention(s): Winnipeg Jets 3 (Neiderreiter-Lowry-Appleton)

1/4 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Pyotr Kotchetkov
  2. Vitek Vanacek
    Honorable Mention(s): John Gibson

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Arvid Soderblom
Honorable Mention(s): Darcy Kuemper

1/4 NHL Wild Card Targets

Dawson Mercer
– Mercer has been making quite a splash as of late. Over his last four games, he has four goals and two assists and has consistently been seeing around 20 minutes of ice-time a game following his promotion to the Devils second line. He currently heads up the Devils second power play unit and is coming up against the Chicago Blackhawks who as mentioned earlier, sit second last in the league and are in the midst of a four-game losing streak. The oddsmakers are giving the Devils an incredibly high implied total of 4.5 and the Devils have statistically one of the best offenses in the league (6th overall in Goals scored per game) and are coming up against the second worst defense in the league (31st overall in Gaosl allowed per game).

Honorable Mention(s): Cole Perfetti, Seth Jarvis

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Sebastian Aho

Winger Jesper Bratt

Defenseman – Luke Hughes

Goalie Pyotr Kotchetkov

Happy new year!! We here at Win Daily hope you all had a fantastic holiday season. As we kick off 2024, we are greeted with a giant 13 game slate. Let’s look at the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Juuse Saros – Nashville Predators: The Preds host the Blackhawks tonight in what should be a very solid matchup for Juice. This is a cash play more than a GPP play.

Alexandar Georgiev – Colorado Avalanche: The Avs host the Islanders tonight and this should be a good spot for Georgiev, who has been playing well of late.

Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins: Jarry and the Pens host the Caps tonight, and this should be a solid spot for Jarry.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Karel Vejmelka – Arizona Coyotes: Veggie is back, as the Coyotes have been a solid team this year. They are not the Coyotes of the past, and tonight they get a good home matchup against the Panthers. There should be a bit of upside in this play, and the Panthers have been struggling to score. Veggie at home is much better than on the road, so this looks like a solid risk play.

Others to Consider: Linus Ullmark (BOS), Marc-Andre Fleury (MIN), Scott Wedgewood (DAL), Stuart Skinner (EDM), Connor Hellebuyck (WPG)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Dallas Stars Power Play – Roope Hintz/Jason Robertson/Joe Pavelski/Jamie Benn/Miro Heiskanen: The Stars have the 12th ranked power play unit, and Montreal has the 30th ranked PK unit, setting this group up for a very solid night. The Canadiens are also 9th in the league in PIMs/game, so there should be plenty of opportunity for this unit tonight.

Vancouver Canucks Power Play – Elias Pettersson/JT Miller/Brock Boeser/Andrei Kuzmenko/Quinn Hughes: The Canucks take on Ottawa at home tonight, setting this unit up for a huge night. They should get plenty of opportunities, and should be able to capitalize on them.

Colorado Avalanche 1 – Nathan MacKinnon/Mikko Rantanen/Jonathan Drouin/Cale Makar: This line is virtually always in play, but especially tonight. They should see the top line for the Isles tonight in a very nice looking matchup.

Nashville Predators 1 – Ryan O’Reilly/Gustav Nyquist/Filip Forsberg/Roman Josi: This is a fantastic matchup for the Preds tonight, as this line should face the top line for the Hawks for a majority of the night. The Preds have been struggling a bit, but this is a great spot for them to get back on track.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Boston Bruins 2 – Charlie Coyle/Brad Marchand/Jake Debrusk: This second line for the Bruins should see a date with the second line for the Blue Jackets tonight. That sets them up for a good opportunity to light the lamp a couple of times.

New York Rangers 2 – Vincent Trocheck/Artemi Panarin/Alexis Lafreniere: The second line for the Rangers is in a decent spot tonight against the second line for the Canes. They should see plenty of chances and have been playing well of late.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Evgeni Malkin/Bryan Rust/Reilly Smith: This second line gets a date with the top line for the Caps tonight in a very plus matchup. Getting Rust back really helps the cause as well.

Winnipeg Jets 1 – Mark Scheifele/Gabriel Vilardi/Nikolaj Ehlers/Josh Morrissey: The Jets take on the Lightning tonight on home ice, and this line gets a very solid matchup against the newly formed TBL2. They should be able to take advantage of this matchup tonight. Consider the third line for the Jets as well if you want to get real risky with it.
