After hopefully an Above Average weekend it’s time to get back to the daily grind. Jacob hasn’t stopped working to find you Jacob’s Above Average plays that will help you rebound from a rough weekend or to keep your heater going.

Take Toronto Raptors -11 versus Cleveland Cavaliers (7:30pm EST, Monday 16 December 2019)

Cleveland has just been bad this year. I mean, really above-average levels of awful. They have lost nine out of ten games straight up, and have covered just four times in their last sixteen games. They rank 29th in total overall offense, 26th in made field goal percentage, 27th in three-pointers made, and 22nd in rebounds. In their last five games, they have lost by more than fifteen points in all but two of them, and are even worse on the road. Cleveland has lost it’s last five games to the Eastern Conference, losing to the Atlantic Division specifically. The only thing that’s above average on this team would be their defensive rebounds, which rank 7th in the NBA. Their defense is ranked 20th in overall defense. None of this sounds good when you know they are taking on the Raptors at home. The Raptors have not been their above-average selves as of late. They have covered just once in their last six games, and go into this game with Fred Vanvleet soaking in doubt. Overall, however, they have been playing well. They have won nine of the last thirteen games, and have won eight of their last ten versus the Eastern Conference. They are the owners of an above-average offense, which ranks 15th overall, 4th in three-pointers, and 6th in offensive rebounds. The one place I see the Raptors struggling is on the defensive boards. They rank 30th in defensive rebounds and have to take on Tristan Thompson – who has been great on defensive rebounds. I see this as more than just an average win. I see an above-average blowout coming, as a bad Cleveland team doesn’t have what it takes to go into Toronto and keep it close.

Take Florida Panthers to win in regulation -185 versus Ottawa Senators (7:05 pm EST, Monday 16 December 2019)

Tonight, we see an Atlantic Division matchup between two teams headed in the wrong direction. The Senators have been playing above average from what we are used to seeing from them. They took down Columbus 4-3 in overtime in their last game, but it should not have been that close. They had a two-goal lead in the third period, before letting the Blue Jackets pump two in to force overtime. They have allowed almost four goals per game on the road, and now take on a team who is above average on offense – allowing the Panthers to exploit the Senators’ weak defense. Ottawa is allowing an average of almost thirty-three shots on goal per game, while the Panthers average over 34 shots on goal per game at home. These are two fast-paced teams who lead the NHL in period total overs (more on that later), and I expect to see some goals here as well. This bodes well for the Panthers’ superior offense, and that will be important in the final minutes of this game – which I believe it comes down to. That said, the Panthers have been struggling. They have won just three of their last ten games, including winning just one of the last seven versus the Eastern Conference. I would also mention that their schedule has been tough: Their last six games include Boston, NY Islanders, Tampa Bay, San Jose, Columbus, and Minnesota. The Panthers have been on a long homestand that will be coming to an end soon, and they need this win before hitting the road. I do not like the price at -200, and I believe Florida gets it done in regulation – so, I’m grabbing the much better price at -140.

Take YES – Goal in the 1st 10 minutes Ottawa Senators versus Florida Panthers (7:05 pm EST, Monday 16 December 2019)

The Senators rank far above average when it comes to having a goal scored in the first ten minutes of their games. So far this year: They rank 7th (which is 21-11 and/or 64.5%) with goals scored in the first ten minutes. Florida does not have a great defense, and neither does the Senators. I see a lot of goals in the game, to begin with, and I think it definitely starts early.

Take OVER 1.5 Goals in the 2nd Period Ottawa Senators versus Florida Panthers (7:05 pm EST, Monday 16 December 2019)

The Panthers rank far above average when it comes to scoring over 1.5 goals in the 2nd period. They are top ten in the NHL, scoring over 1.5 in the 2nd period twenty-three out of thirty-two games. The Senators are 20-14 for going over 1.5 goals in the 2nd period, which should help out. Like I said before – I see a lot of goals in this game, take the over.

Top Two GPP Lines

Fanduel – Florida One – Aleksander Barkov, Evgenii Dadonov, Jonathan Huberdeau

Ottawa has had fairly distinct home/road splits this season and presents a plus matchup for the Florida top line. As of the time of writing, the Panthers come in a heavy -210 favorite and should be good for multiple goals here. Rather than target a depth line, I would just stick with Florida One. They have been the third most productive line in the NHL this season, combining for 23 full line goals. The top line also has full power play correlation. If you don’t want to spend up on all three, I would make Evgeni Dadonov the odd man out. Dadonov’s recent production has been nothing to write home about.

DraftKings – Washington Two – Evgeny Kuznetsov, T.J. Oshie, Jacob Vrana

This line is extremely cheap on DraftKings where Evgeny Kuznetsov is $5,800, T.J. Oshie is $5,000, and Jakub Vrana is $5,500. Those prices don’t measure up to their recent production. Oshie has three goals over his last two games, Vrana has been the team’s player of the month, and Kuznetsov is averaging over a point per game this season. As a -160 favorite in Columbus, tonight certainly shouldn’t be too imposing as far as road games go.

Nathan MacKinnon – Over 0.5 Assists I don’t think this is a huge upside game for Colorado, but it’s hard to bet against Nathan Mac grabbing at least an assist.

John Carlson – Over 4.5 Fantasy Points – We might as well put our money behind the best offensive defenseman in the NHL right now.

Cash Line

Las Vegas Two – Chandler Stephenson, Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty

The Las Vegas Golden Knights come in with the highest projected goal total of the night, a modest 3.41. For cash games, most people will be deciding between the two top lines. Max Pacioretty is my priority among individual skaters with his current form. Therefore, the second line intrigues me a little more as it offers a solid combination of upside and savings. Chandler Stephenson has replaced the slumping Paul Stastny on the second line and comes in at a punt price. You can also try to stack one Las Vegas One and add Max Pacioretty as a one-off, so there are a few ways to attack this situation for cash purposes.

GPP Line

Minnesota Two – Eric Staal, Jason Zucker, Mats Zuccarello

The Minnesota Wild travel to Chicago as the underdog. Meanwhile, this line is quietly the seventh most productive in the NHL this season by the numbers, with 16 full line goals. One metric in particular that stands out is their .883 save % against which is better than lines such as the McDavid/Draisaitl line “.917” and Boston One “by one percentage point”. On DraftKings they are underpriced for their production.

12/15 NHL DraftKings Rankings

DraftKings Forwards/Centers

  1. Max Pacioretty – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $7,300
  2. Jason Zucker – Minnesota Wild – $5,000
  3. Mats Zuccarello – Minnesota Wild – $4,800

NHL DraftKings Defenders

  1. Carson Soucy – Minnesota Wild – $2,700
  2. Jonas Brodin – Minnesota Wild – $3,000
  3. Drew Doughty- Los Angeles Kings – $5,700

NHL DraftKings Goalies

  1. Jack Campbell – Los Angeles Kings – $7,000
  2. Marc Andre-Fleury – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $8,200

12/15 NHL FanDuel Rankings

FanDuel Forwards/Centers

  1. Max Pacioretty – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $7,400
  2. William Karlson – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $6,200
  3. Alex Tuch – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $4,400

FanDuel Defensemen

  1. Carson Soucy – Minnesota Wild – $3,800
  2. Nate Schmidt – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $4,200
  3. Matt Dumba – Minnesota Wild – $3,600 “he is $6,000 on DK where I would never pay that for him across seven lifetimes”

FanDuel Goalies

  1. Kappo Kahkonen – Minnesota Wild – $7,400 “Assuming Dubynk waits for one more game to return”
  2. Jack Campbell – Los Angeles Kings – $7,100

12/15 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Max Pacioretty- Over 3.5 Fantasy Points At the moment, Patches is too hot to pass on.

Robin Lehner – Over 30.5 Saves – Minnesota might put up a ton of shots in what could be a sneaky shootout.

Top Three Lines

Montreal One – Tomas Tatar, Brendan Gallagher, Phillip Danault

Hold up everyone, we have a Red Wings sighting! Yes, I know they trolled the hockey universe and finally snapped their losing streak last time out against Winnipeg. However, sometimes you need to have a short memory. Not surprisingly, the Canadiens are a big favorite, coming in at -240 with a solid 3.69 projected goal total. Joel Armia is a fine one-off but let’s just stick with the first line as they have been producing, remaining a top ten line over the last 14 days. I love both Shea Weber and Ben Chiarot as well if looking to stack up Habs. I would assume Montreal will be the chalk, as it normally goes when Detroit comes to town anywhere in the NHL.

Pittsburgh One – Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, Bryan Rust

There should be some absolute bloodbaths tonight with some of the big favorites so likely a high scoring slate. Pittsburgh is a -225 favorite, hosting the Kings who are on an East Coast swing. Evgeni Malkin was sick the other night, but supposedly he is “feeling a lot better” now. Bryan Rust should be the first skater of the trio in your lineup on FanDuel. Despite putting up at least five shots on goal in four of his last six games, he has only received a modest price bump of $100, making him all of $5,200 now. The 3.63 projected goal total suggests Pittsburgh should score here and we know the most likely source.

Arizona Powerplay – Phil Kessel, Clayton Keller

I am not sure I have ever listed Arizona in this article before. Most people can understand why. While they have been extremely successful this season, it has largely been on the backs of the defense, coaching, and goaltending. By and large, the Arizona Coyotes are the New York Islanders West. However, they will host the New Jersey Devils who are on the second night of a back to back, after losing to the Avs. The Devils are resting Taylor Hall as he is likely about to get traded, so morale is probably low. The Coyotes are a strong -205 favorite but I am not a fan of anyone line. My single favorite play from the Yotes is Phil Kessel who comes in at only $5,000 on DraftKings. I would use him there rather than on FanDuel for $6,800. My favorite Coyote on FanDuel is Jacob Chychrun per usual.

12/14 NHL DraftKings Rankings

DraftKings Forwards/Centers

  1. Brendan Gallagher – Montreal Canadiens – $6,700
  2. Phil Kessel – Arizona Coyotes – $5,000
  3. Bryan Rust – Pittsburgh Penguins – $6,300

NHL DraftKings Defenders

  1. Ben Chiarot – Montreal Canadiens – $4,400
  2. Jacob Chychrun – Arizona Coyotes – $4,300
  3. John Marino – Pittsburgh Penguns – $3,400

NHL DraftKings Goalies

  1. Darcy Kuemper – Arizona Coyotes – $8,300
  2. Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins – $8,400
  3. Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues – $8,200

12/14 NHL FanDuel Rankings

FanDuel Forwards/Centers

  1. Bryan Rust – Pittsburgh Penguins – $5,200
  2. Jacob Armia – Montreal Canadiens – $4,700
  3. Clayton Keller – Arizona Coyotes – $5,900

  1. Jacob Chychrun – Arizona Coyotes – $3,900
  2. Darnell Nurse – Edmonton Oilers – $4,100
  3. John Carlson – Washington Capitals – $7,400

FanDuel Goalies

  1. Darcy Kuemper – Arizona Coyotes – $8,800
  2. Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins – $8,100
  3. Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues – $8,700

12/14 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Brendan Gallagher – Over 3.5 Fantasy Points This is a great spot for Brendan Gallagher and the Canadiens. As far as DFS goes, I like his price better on DraftKings. However, on Monkey Knife Fight you won’t have to worry about his salary.

Kris Letang – Over 4.5 Shots on Goal plus Blocks – Let’s hop back on the Letang wagon, in a game the Pens should win with ease. I doubt they will disappoint again on home ice absent more surprise late scratches.

The Gameplan

Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog

We have a fairly straightforward two-game slate tonight. One game involves the Las Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars. The game is in Dallas and Ben Bishop will likely be in net, so not exactly a high upside spot for Vegas. We should have Malcolm Subban in net for the Knights. The two main Dallas lines are somewhat affordable. I think you pick one of the two on Fanduel where you can’t use more than four Colorado skaters and try to pair with Colorado One. Either way, this is the line you start within cash and likely tournaments, as well. The Avs play host the pathetic Devils and this should be a mismatch from the start. The Colorado top line is the best on the slate in terms of both talent and matchup and it is not even close.

Top Three Lines

Winnipeg One – Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, Patrik Laine

We could sum this one up in two words, “Red Wings”. Our favorite dumpster fire is back and the Jets get the pleasure of facing them twice in one week. Winnipeg dropped five on Detroit the other night, resulting in a 5-1 home win. This time around, they will switch venues but that only helps Detroit so much. Unfortunately, every primary Jets skater on the top two lines except Nikolaj Ehlers received a massive price bump. The top line had a fairly good night against the Wings with goals for Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele, and an assist for Kyle Connor. I also don’t mind a two-man version of the Winnipeg second line using Blake Wheeler and Ehlers. That might be the most cost-effective route considering the aforementioned price increases. Neal Pionk is quarterbacking the power play and is usable on both sites, although cheaper on FanDuel, so preferred there. Josh Morrissey is another option on defense. Connor Hellebuyck is a very strong play in goal and should be popular.

Pittsburgh One – Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Jake Guentzel

The Pens started off so well the other night with a Jake Guentzel goal in the first few minutes of the game and then they tailed off from there. This is still the top line in the NHL over the last 10 days and with Pittsburgh a -170 favorite, they make for a strong play once again. Bryan Rust is becoming extremely chalky on FanDuel to his lack of a price bump on that site no matter what. It helps to offset the cost of the other two skaters. While Kris Letang is a nice play, I don’t think you have to try to add him too, but rather just focus on the three attackers. Sidney who? As long as this line keeps mashing, Sidney Crosby’s absence isn’t being felt nearly as hard as it would be otherwise.

San Jose One – Evander Kane, Logan Couture, Barclay Goodrow

The Rangers have laid some real stinkers on the road this season, and this game sets up to add another to the list. San Jose just fired their coach so this can go one of two ways. However, I think they respond well given that they had a day to process everything and it results in a feel-good night for the entire Shark Tank. I like both San Jose lines here, but as they are close enough in price I might as well give the honor of listing to the first line. San Jose One will get to match up with some the Rangers atrocious depth lines and on home ice, if they can’t take advantage of that matchup, there are more issues on-hand for the Sharks than coaching. You can also just run the two-man of Logan Couture and Evander Kane if you do not need the savings derived from Barclay Goodrow. Erik Karlsson has been heating up and remains underpriced on DraftKings. The Sharks make for tournament plays more than cash plays, given how bad some of the game logs are I doubt they will have much ownership on a big slate.

12/12 NHL DraftKings Rankings

DraftKings Forwards/Centers

  1. Johnny Gaudreau – Calgary Flames – $5,600
  2. Nikolaj Ehlers – Winnipeg Jets – $5,900
  3. Phil Kessel – Arizona Coyotes – $4,900

NHL DraftKings Defenders

  1. Erik Karlsson – San Jose Sharks – $5,800
  2. Matt Grzelcyk – Boston Bruins – $2,700
  3. Scott Mayfield – New York Islanders – $2,900

NHL DraftKings Goalies

  1. Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets – $8,400
  2. Robin Lehner – Chicago Blackhawks – $6,900
  3. Marc Andre-Fleury – Las Vegas Golden Knights – $7,100

12/12 NHL FanDuel Rankings

  2. Jacob Chychrun – Arizona Coyotes – $3,800
  3. Darnell Nurse – Edmonton Oilers – $4,000

FanDuel Goalies

  1. Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets – $8,600 “Far and away from the top option”
  2. Ryan Miller – Anaheim Ducks – $7,300

12/12 Monkey Knife Fight NHL Prop Picks – Win With These Picks Here and Get 100 Percent Bonus!

Erik Karlsson- Over 0.5 Assists Erik Karlsson is heating up and “the time is nigh” for him to add to his assist total against the Rangers.

Kris Letang – Over 0.5 Assists – Sticking with the concept of offensive-minded defenseman getting assists, he is expensive in DFS, but on Monkey Knife Fight you can eat some of that “Letang Pie”.

For DFS Purposes, I will try to avoid the Washington vs. Boston game. I did want to note however that the Capitals have dominated the Bruins over the last five years. At one point, this included a 14 game winning streak against them and I believe it is currently 15 out of the last 16 that Washington has won against Boston. Just a quick fun fact in case you were considering placing a money line bet.

Top Two Lines

GPP – Montreal One – Tomas Tatar, Phillip Danault, Brendan Gallagher, Shea Weber “Add-On”

The Canadiens have certainly struggled over the last month or so, but I think we can target them tonight at home against Ottawa. The Habs do come into this with some momentum following a huge road win in Pittsburgh. As for the Senators, they have absolutely dreadful road splits, as their 5-12-1 record on road ice, as opposed to a winning record at home, might indicate. Shea Weber looks completely recovered after an injury impacted his season last year and he is my favorite individual play from this group. Weber can be used as a one-off or with either of the two Montreal lines. He skates on the first line and shares even strength time with them and spends his power play time with the core members of the second line “Max Domi and Joel Armia”.

A second line is a fine option if you want some savings. However, overall I would prefer the top line which has remained the same going back to early last season. They have been a top ten line this season combining for 17 full line goals and have been a top ten line over the last ten days as well. Brendan Gallagher has been a force during that recent stretch, scoring in four straight games coming into tonight.

Cash/GPP – Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog

The Avs should be the chalk of the night and I would make sure to prioritize the top line in cash games. Gabriel Landeskog remains really cheap on Draftkings, as despite getting moved back up to the top line, his price only increased $200 to $6,000. Philly is not a bad defensive team, but out on the road in Denver, it will be a tough challenge for them. Particularly considering the fact that the Avalanche has scored the second-most goals in the NHL this season, sans Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. Cale Makar will remain out, but even if he was healthy, it would still make more sense to prioritize the three skaters mentioned up top. I failed to talk about him, however, Nathan MacKinnon is still very, very good at the hockey.

12/11 NHL DraftKings Rankings

DraftKings Forwards/Centers

  1. Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche – $7,600
  2. Gabriel Landeskog – Colorado Avalanche – $6,000
  3. Brendan Gallagher – Montral Canadiens – $6,200
  4. Joel Armia – Montreal Canadiens – $5,200
  5. Mikko Rantanen – Colorado Avalanche – $7,200

NHL DraftKings Defenders

  1. John Carlson – Washington Capitals – $7,200
  2. Ian Cole – Colorado Avalanche – $3,000
  3. Shea Weber – Montreal Canadiens – $6,500
  4. Ben Chiarot – Montreal Canadiens – $4,400
  5. Sam Girard – Colorado Avalanche – $3,300

NHL DraftKings Goalies

  1. Phillip Grubauer – Colorado Avalanche – $8,000
  2. Cayden Primeau – Montreal Canadiens – $7,600

12/11 NHL FanDuel Rankings

FanDuel Forwards/Centers

  1. Nathan MacKinnon – Colorado Avalanche – $9,100
  2. Joel Armia – Montreal Canadiens – $4,400
  3. Brendan Gallagher – Montreal Canadiens – $7,600
  4. Joonas Donskoi – Colorado Avalanche – $4,900
  5. Valeri Nichushkin – Colorado Avalanche – $3,800

  2. John Carlson – Washington Capitals – $7,500
  3. Shea Weber – Montreal Canadiens – $6,500
  4. Ian Cole – Colorado Avalanche – $4,200
  5. Jeff Petry – Montreal Canadiens – $4,500

Nathan MacKinnon – Over 0.5 Goals If we can’t count on Nathan MacKinnon to score a goal at home, what can we count on in life?

Brendan Gallagher – Over 3.5 Fantasy Points – I will roll with Brendan Gallagher over Shea Weber between the lower threshold to meet and his recent form.

This article focuses on NHL DFS Picks for 12/10 on DraftKings and FanDuel. Both sites have fairly different scoring formats, particularly with the recent changes on DraftKings. We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. BE SURE to double-check both regular and power play lines at both morning skate and before lock as they can drastically change from the time of publication.

Top Three Lines

Cash/GPP – Pittsburgh One – Bryan Rust, Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel

The Canadiens have been nothing short of a disaster as of late, going 2-6-2 over their last ten games. Carey Price has been struggling during that stretch, aside from one decent start his last time out. Montreal is unlikely to improve on that record while headed to Pittsburgh, where the Habs will face the elite line mentioned above, and possibly the red hot Tristan Jarry in the net. Even in subpar matchups, the Pittsburgh top line is producing and they should dominate the Montreal depth lines on home ice. Winners of three straight, and 6-2-2 over their last ten games by contrast, despite all of the injuries, the Pens have yet to slow their roll. The Pittsburgh top-line mentioned above has been the top-scoring line in the NHL over the last ten games, with ten goals in that span. Once again on FanDuel, just lock in Bryan Rust where he never receives any price adjustment. The other two skaters aren’t too bad either.

Cash/GPP – Winnipeg One – Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, Patrik Laine

Winnipeg comes in a whopping -240 home favorite against our favorite punching bag, the Detroit Red Wings. Despite an underwhelming season so far for the Jets, their top line is still tied for the eleventh best scoring line in the NHL this year. You already know the deal with the Red Wings. They have allowed an eye-popping, league-high 124 goals this season, which is the highest mark by a full 13 goals. Furthermore, the Jets’ top line should be able to avoid matching with Dylan Larkin’s Detroit top line, which by default I guess, is the best of the Red Wings lines from a defensive standpoint. I don’t think you’re pulling off pieces as this seems like a full line scenario. The Winnipeg second line of Nikolaj Ehlers, Blake Wheeler, and Jack Roslovic is also in play. This team is priced far too cheap on DraftKings.

GPP – Las Vegas Two – Paul Stastny, Max Pacioretty, Mark Stone

Las Vegas let us down big time at home Sunday night against the Rangers. They will have a chance to bounce back as they play host to the Blackhawks, coming in a -200 favorite at the time of writing. Max Pacioretty launched a whopping nine shots on goal in that game, so he was pretty unfortunate not to score. When you factor in how cheap Paul Stastny is, I think that you just target the second line, which is overall the more talented of the two top lines for the Golden Knights. On FanDuel in particular, Pacioretty is always too cheap and never gets a price adjustment. They are tied for only the twenty-first best line in hockey this season from a stats perspective, but positive regression is ahead. I would rank them below the other two stacks listed below but think that they make for a sharp large field tournament play.

Jonathan Bernier – Over 29.5 Saves I certainly wouldn’t count on him for the win, given that his team is a massive underdog on the road. However, with all of the shots that Jonathan Bernier will likely face, he can hit this mark if he can stop enough of them.

Kris Letang – Over 0.5 Assists – This will be a good spot for Kris Letang to grab an assist, whether during even strength with the Pens’ first line or on the power play.

Top Three Lines

Boston One – David Krejci, David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, plus Jake DeBrusk “$540 on FanDuel”

The top overall Boston play on FanDuel is astonishingly not one of the names mentioned above, but instead Jake DeBrusk. However, the sole reason for that is because he is priced as a mistake at an abnormal $540, opening up lineup construction for all sorts of studs. You might want to use some of that savings on a couple of the men listed above. It will be tough for Ottawa to handle them, even on home ice. It does not seem like Patrice Bergeron will be returning for this game, but that is something to keep an eye on. Nevertheless, this line is solid as-is. With 25 goals and 18 assists over 30 games, Pasta is the top play and can be used as a one-off. I think that we will see a lot of Boston four-man on FanDuel involving Jake DeBrusk “who shares a correlation with David Krejci on the Bruin’s second power-play unit”.

Washington One – Alex Ovechkin “Core”, John Carlson “Core”, Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson “Better on FanDuel”

This is a fairly loaded slate for a four gamer as you can already tell. Next up, we have the potent Washington first line playing host to the Columbus Blue Jackets. As a team, the Capitals have scored a league-high 115 goals this season. Most teams can’t wait to get back on home ice and shake off all of the ills that come with an extended road trip. However, the Caps were largely unfazed, absolutely cruising through that part of their schedule. This is a Columbus team that will consistently struggle throughout the rest of the year to pick up points on the road.

Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson are the core two for me here. Nicklas Backstrom is returning from injury, so I’d expect the traditional Washington One line, although Backstrom is not necessary. I left Tom Wilson for last, but I think that he is okay on FanDuel where he is always cheap. Otherwise, I would stick to the big guns and if you can jam John Carlson in, go for it. I don’t mind the Capitals second line either, as by moving Evgeny Kuznetsov down where he replaces Lars Eller, that line has become even stronger. It was already hot with Jacob Vrana perhaps the hottest player right now on this entire team.

Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Joonas Donskoi, Cale Makar “Powerplay Add On”

Clearly, I decided to get really creative here. It’s just hard to pass up some of these top-level lines, and the fact that there are a few of them on the slate should help to suppress ownership a little. We have the team that has scored the most goals in hockey this season, and the team that has scored the second-most in the Avs. Nathan MacKinnon, much like Alex Ovechkin, and John Carlson, is routinely hitting bonuses on DraftKings.

You can play MacKinnon as a one-off, or you can go all in and add Mikko Rantanen and the most talented of the Joonas Brothers, Joonas Donskoi. Both of the aforementioned skaters also correlate on the Avalanche’s first power-play unit. Feel free to add on Cale Makar or Gabriel Landeskog if trying to go all in and target the power play. Makar was hurt Saturday night, so be sure to make sure he is back skating earlier in the day, before using him.

John Carlson – Over 3.5 Fantasy Points Monkey Knife Fight had removed him for a while but he’s back again with a lower threshold to hit.

Nathan MacKinnon – Over 0.5 Goals – Betting against Nathan Mac scoring at home while the Avalanche are rolling, seems like a mistake.

This Sunday we have a tiny three-game slate. As always in these situations, I recommend sticking to single entry contests unless you are maxing out entries on whatever you enter.

Top Two Lines

Vegas One – Reilly Smith, Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson

Vegas Two – Paul Stastny, Max Pacioretty, Mark Stone

As far as individual plays go, I expect Jack Eichel, Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl to be the chalk. However, Vegas comes in with a slate high 3.88 projected goal total, as a decent -200 favorite. My hope is some of those expensive one-offs take people off of them or at least compromise how many most of the field can fit. The Golden Knights have a modest 7-5-3 record at home this season, but I would expect some positive regression to the numbers of years past. They had no issues sorting out the Rangers in the Garden just a few days ago, breaking their spirit en route to a 4-1 win. Particularly with the way the Edmonton lines are distributed, the two top Las Vegas lines are my primary targets for DFS. I would aim for equal exposure to both lines and alternate them as part of a core build if muti-entering. Matching up with the Rangers awful depth lines, they should both eat once again. I don’t mind using one-offs either. Between his role on the first power-play unit and recent scoring touch, Alex Tuch would be such a consideration.

Mark Stone – Over 3.5 Fantasy Points Much like the Golden Knights, we can “turn to Stone” with such a low barrier to meet here.

Connor McDavid – Under 1.5 Assists – This is a weird one as Connor McDavid would need two assists specifically to hit the over. I think we can take the under here given the percentages of that happening.
