Welcome to Zak’s Puck Picks!! I started in Cash with Flash Handicapping Challenge and have been heating up. I am super excited to keep the momentum going and win some serious money talking Puck Picks with all of you!

A big part of my life is my three kids. Each one of them holds a different attribute that I would personally use to aid me in deciding what picks to make. My twins Pork and Ribs and their little brother Bean (not their real names but very appropriate nicknames).

Pork is a doer. He is one to dive into a situation and figure itout as it unfolds, usually with great success. In terms of the puck pick, itwill be a gut feeling pick and be backed with some stats to explain the feeling.

Ribs, he likes to observe the situation, take in all theinformation, and then make an educated decision on what his next step will be.His puck pick will be focused around teams that are on hot streaks, eitheragainst a team in a matchup or on a winning streak.

Now Bean may sound cute and innocent, but he is a wild man. Not alot of thought goes into actions and if there is some thought, its gearedtowards “how can I push Dad’s buttons”. His puck pick will be a little more onthe risky side. There will be reasons why I think we should go this way.

As cook by trade and hockey as a passion since I was 3 years old, let’s get some puck picks in the oven and make some dough shall we?

All odds are referenced from vegasinsider.com. The source of information comes from Newsday.sports.gracenote.com unless otherwise specified. I will play ALL the picks mentioned in these articles.

Puck Record for February (61-51) 54.46%

Puck Recap: Thursday night (4-0)
Today we received wins from Philadelphia, Minnesota, Colorado and a +1.5 from the Anaheim Ducks (who won outright). That’s enough bragging, on to tonight’s puck picks!

Pork’s Puck Pick- Nashville Predators -143
Nashville is coming off of a gritty win at home against Calgary, to say the least. Scoring with 0.1 seconds left to take the game to overtime where they pulled out the victory. Colorado is coming off of a 3-2 win last night against Carolina where the number one puck stopper had to make forty-five saves. This leads me to believe that they will go to Leafs cast off Michael Hutchinson to tend the twine in this game with a four, nine and one record, a 3.66 goals-against average and an 8.66 save percentage. Now, this is a new start, however, I don’t think that will be enough to make him a solid puck stopper again. I think Nashville scores early and takes advantage of a tired Colorado group with sub-par goaltending.

Rib’s Puck Pick- Ottawa Senators -167
I never thought that I would be confidently writing up the Ottawa Senators in a winning manor this year. Yet here we are. With a 16-13-3 home record at home compared to a 5-26-1-1 road record for the Detroit Redwings, chances are already good the Senators take this one. Not to mention that Ottawa has actually been playing well over their last six games at home, tallying four wins in that span. Both of these team are not great so positive stats are hard to come by, however, Ottawa has been keeping games close and can put the puck on the net. Detroit in their last four games has been outscored nineteen to five. I feel confident Ottawa pulls out the win in this contest

Beans Puck Pick- St. Louis Blues-150
St. Louis is on a six-game win streak and puck stopper Jordan Binnington has five of those wins. The Blues also have a two to one edge in the season series. After beating the stars five to one in their last meeting in Dallas I see more of the same from the Blues this evening. Ben Bishop has struggled in his last two games letting in nine goals between the two contests. The Blues have been scoring quite regularly as well with a total of nineteen in their last five games. I think the Blues repeat their performance against the stars and take a three to one stranglehold on the season series.

There may be a few other matchups I may like, however it depends who the puck stopper is. Stay tuned to the #nhl and # sports betting tabs on Discord, as well as Twitter for any changes or more potential matchups as more news unfolds!

We consider tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so we can gain an edge on the field at large. BE SURE to double-check both regular and power play lines at both morning skate and before lock as they can drastically change from the time of publication.

Top Two Lines

Las Vegas One – Max Pacioretty, Mark Stone, William Karlsson

This line has been making the article a lot as of late, but there is a good reason why. The Golden Knights are the biggest favorites on the slate, coming in at -250. Max Pacioretty scored the other night but the other two underwhelmed in a Vegas loss. However, this might be the bounce back and I expect them to be very popular on what is a relatively small slate. Buffalo will be making the trip out West and given the affordability this line still offers, I like them the best if looking to roll out a full line.

Pittsburgh Penguins – Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Patric Hornqvist

By bumping up Patric Hornqvist, this line has easily morphed into the best line on the Pens right now. Pittsburgh is a -175 favorite despite traveling all the way to Southern California. On FanDuel, this is the line I would build around and in tournaments, you can mix and match them. Given the affordability of two of the three skaters, It will not be hard to be able to pair them with some of the slate’s more expensive lines.

Puck Record for February (57-51) 51.85%

Puck Recap: Thursday night (2-4)
Those were some tough losses to watch last night. Calgary was 0.1 seconds away from going home with two points only to lose in overtime. The Devils, up two to nothing, lose in overtime. Washington and Vancouver both in should win games, forgot to bring their A-game. The plus bet on the Rangers cashed and the add on puck line on Minnesota vs Detroit game was a hit as well. Let’s have a short memory and get back to winning! On to today’s puck action.

Pork’s Puck Pick- Philadelphia Flyers-167
The New York Rangers have been really good on the road and are putting together quite the run as of late. The Flyers, however, have been outstanding at home only dropping five decisions in regulation. The Rangers came off of an inspired effort in the third period last night against the Canadians with a four-goal effort in the frame. I expect them to come out swinging to try to get up early in this game however I don’t think they will have enough to pull off the win. It has been reported by The Goalie Project that Alex Georgiev is starting tonight as well. Philadelphia won the only matchup of the season between these teams buy a five to one score in Philadelphia. I expect to see much of the same tonight

Rib’s Puck Pick- Minnesota Wild -104
I think this line sits where it is because of Minnesota’s back to back situation, however, the shellacked the Redwings last night by a seven- one score. I believe they will be good to go for this contest. The Wild has four wins in their last five games whereas the Blue Jackets have just one in their last ten. The Wild have also won their last four games on the road. Kevin Fiala has been on a puck mashing goal scoring with sixteen points in his last twelve games. The Blue Jackets have too many injuries to too many key goalscorers to keep up with Minnesota in this matchup this evening.

Beans Puck Pick- Colorado Avalanche-103
The Carolina Hurricanes made a lot of great moves to solidify scoring depth and shore up their defensive issues due to injury. They did not, however, fix their issues in goal. The last game they left the puck stopping duties to Alex Nedeljkovic, who in his first start of the season let in four goals on just sixteen shots. This does this bode well when you are facing g the seventh-ranked team in shots per game and fifth in shooting percentage. Pavel Francouz and the Colorado Avalanche roll into Carolina riding a four-game win streak. In the Matchup between these clubs, the road team has won three of the last four dating back to 2018. I feel that this trend continues due to the goaltending mismatch and the roll the Avalanche are on.

There may be a few other matchups I may like, however it depends who the puck stopper is. Stay tuned to the #nhl and # sports betting tabs on Discord, as well as Twitter for any changes or more potential matchups as more news unfolds!

Top Two Lines

Tampa Bay One – Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point

I took a long hard look at the Toronto and Florida game. I like both those teams as well and love the game stack in tournaments. However, I think if narrowing things down to a single line, you’re mainly looking at the Lightning’s top line. We will have to see the condition of Steven Stamkos after he left early the other night. Tampa Bay has the highest implied total on the board by nearly half a point at 3.91. It is safe to assume that most of that production will not be coming from the likes of Barclay Goodrow and Cedric Paquette. As for the Blackhawks, they have been atrocious lately, going 2-7-1 over their last ten games. Considering that Chicago has allowed six goals twice over their last four games, this could get ugly for the visitors.

Minnesota Wild – Eric Staal, Kevin Fiala, Gerald Mayhew

You can stop me if you have heard this one before. We are probably beyond listing any statistics for the Red Wings at this point. Minnesota is understandably a -200 favorite with a 3.53 implied goal total, comparable to some of the best offenses on the entire slate. Considering Jonathan Bernier has received a good amount of work lately, perhaps we even get a Jimmy Howard sighting. Kevin Fiala has already been tearing it up, as the last month or so has easily been the best stretch of his career. He just scored another two goals the other night. Although I think the shooting rate is certainly unsustainable, this doesn’t seem like a time to hop off the wagon. The other two skaters are not as enticing, but Detroit has a way off bringing out the best in players.

  5. Mika Zibanejad – New York Rangers – $8,200

Defensemen

  1. Brent Burns – San Jose Sharks – $7,400
  2. Roman Josi – Nashville Predators – $7,500
  3. Tyson Barrie – Toronto Maple Leafs – $4,900

  5. John Carlson – Washington Capitals – $7,300

Goalies

Nikita Kucherov, Auston Matthews, Alex Ovechkin- Over 2.5 Points – The daily 2.5 point bet is down to 34/56 as we continue to experience some low scoring games on the smaller slates. Looking at tonight, I like the three guys listed but there are far more options available in case you don’t.

Puck Record for February (55-47) 53.93%

Puck Recap: Wednesday night (1-2)
The Pittsburgh Penguins are sliding with four straight losses, despite getting 36 shots on Calvin Peterson. Only one goal and a two to one loss. Colorado pulled out a win, sadly it was only by one goal over the Buffalo Sabres. The Vegas Golden Knights, however, gave us a win and continued their home winning streak with a three to nothing shutout performance from Marc Andre Fleury. Now let’s move on to Thursday’s puck action.

Pork’s Puck Pick- Washington Capitals-143
With zero injuries to report and making a move to strengthen their struggling defense, the Washington Capitals look like a prime candidate to get on a solid run before the playoffs. Brandon Dillon was a solid add on the back end for the Capitals and will hopefully make them a little batter in their own end. The addition of Illya Kovalchuk will add some depth scoring and another crazy good shot on the power play. Losers of their last three games, including a loss in Washington in a shoot out, the Jets have been struggling. Puck stopper Connor Hellebuyck has been fantastic this year and has hidden a lot of the defensive issues around the club. However already confirmed by the Goalie Project on twitter, Ilya Samsonov will take his sixteen – five – one record into Winnipeg. This game should stay close, but with the Capital’s additions, I believe the have enough to pull out the win.

Rib’s Puck Pick- Vancouver Canucks-130
Vancouver has won four straight matchups against the Kings who are coming off a back to back against the Pittsburgh Penguins. After Losing Jakob Markstrom to a knee injury, backup puck stopper Thatcher Demko had an inspiring performance against Montreal in his last start. In a tight race in the Pacific Division, Vancouver needs to have a solid road trip and beat teams they should such as the Ottawa Senators. After clearing out their top goal scorer and some other depth pieces for some stellar draft picks, a depleted Ottawa team is also missing Anthony Duclair to an injury. He may not be ready to go against the Canucks tonight. I feel quite confident in Vancouver on the money line tonight.

Beans Puck Pick- New York Rangers+110
The Rangers have been on quite the run lately and have themselves just outside a playoff spot. If puck stopper Alexandar Georgiev starts this game, which has been confirmed again by The Goalie Project on Twitter, the Rangers should continue their winning ways. The Rangers have won eight of their last ten games and are currently on a four-game win streak. Three of those four games were on the road. Between the Canadians and Rangers, the road team has won the last three, which is where New York find themselves tonight. The Canadians also made some moves at the deadline which gained some draft picks but lost some depth. I like the Rangers in the upset this evening.

Houston’s Puck Pick- Calgary Flames +118
The Calgary Flames just took care of business against the Boston Bruins, in Boston, a place where the Bruins had only lost twice. The Flames are red hot on the road and have both their top two lines rolling. The defense looked a lot better against the Bruins, and there are even talks that they might get their Captain, Mark Giordano, back for this contest. The flames are nineteen- thirteen- two on the road this season whereas the Predators are fifteen- twelve- three- one at home this year. The Flames are boasting a six and one record on the road in their last seven games.the away team, Calgary in this contest has won six of the last seven between these two. Pekka Rinne is questionable to puck stop this one as he is currently out with an illness. The Flames should squeeze out the win in “smashville” (Home of the Draft Kings hockey championship, Good Luck Javi Prellezo) tonight.

Zak’s Puck Pick – New Jersey Devils +140
These are two teams trending in different directions. The San Jose Sharks have lost their last five straight, one of those was a two to one loss to the Devils in New Jersey. The Devils have won four of their last five. Puck stopper McKenzie Blackwood has won his last six starts with impressive wins over Washington and a shutout win in Philadelphia. After the trade deadline moves, I believe the Devils have come out the better team for this contest and most definitely the healthier. With only one injury to Will Butcher, the Devils seem to be in better shape than the Sharks with four, two centers and two defensemen. The Devils are twenty third in goals per game facing the harks who is twenty-ninth, compared toe the Devils twenty-eighth in goals-against vs San Jose in 27th. The goals for the discrepancy is what I believe lead the Devils to victory. After all, they say, the Devil is in the details.

There may be a few other matchups I may like, however it depends who the puck stopper is. Stay tuned to the #nhl and # sports betting tabs on Discord, as well as Twitter for any changes or more potential matchups as more news unfolds!

Top Two Lines

Colorado One – Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Valeri Nichushkin

This Buffalo team hasn’t been terrible defensively as of late, outside of a 7-4 loss to the Senators a week ago. However, this will not be an ideal spot for them visiting Colorado. The Avs are tied with the Las Vegas Golden Knights “more on them below” as slate high -210 favorites. If you do not want to use the full line, Nathan MacKinnon is always in play as a one-off and cash piece. MacKinnon comes into tonight third in the NHL with 84 points and should be able to add to his total. It looks like Andre Burakovsky is doubtful to return at the time of writing, so Valeri Nichushkin can provide us with elite salary relief, assuming he remains on the first line.

*TOP OVERALL* – Las Vegas One – William Karlsson, Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty

This line has been absolute fire and now William Karlsson is really starting to get in on the act. It is scary to think what this line’s upside is, and between the highest projected total and home favorite status, they are set to crush. Edmonton comes in on a back to back and should not receive any relief with such a tough matchup staring them in the face. This line has six goals over their last ten games but I expect that number to ramp back up. A couple of weeks ago they were the hottest line in the NHL. If you were to leave one-off, it would be William Karlsson, who skates on the second power-play unit, thus depriving him of full correlation with the other two skaters.

Puck Record for February (54-45) 54.54%

Puck Recap: Monday night (2-1)

The new-look Edmonton first line of Connor McDavid, Andre Athanasiou and Tyler Ennis looked great last night. That was the only bright spot for the Oilers, handing out the lone “L”. The Devils took care of Detroit four to one with Cory Schneider looking like a version, not his former self and the Minnesota Wild hung on to sneak by Columbus in regulation by a score of five to four. Now let’s drop the puck on tonight’s three-game slate.

Pork’s Puck Pick- Colorado Avalanche PUCK LINE +119
The Avalanche had money to spend at the deadline, however, were quiet in participation. This must mean Joe Sakic has confidence in the squad on the ice. I would if your back up puck stopper is the NHL’s first star of the week. The Buffalo Sabres have been playing better lately, however the last time they played Colorado at home in Buffalo, they were handed a six to one loss. I do not believe that they have improved enough to keep this game within 2. Trading away depth pieces Evan Rodrigues and Connor Sheary doesn’t help their case either.

Rib’s Puck Pick- Pittsburgh Penguins -182
Pittsburgh has won four of the last five matchups between these clubs. I think Pittsburgh improved their bottom six depth with the Buffalo additions of Connor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues. Both of the Penguins puck stoppers have been real solid this season. With LA being third overall on shots per game and thirtieth in goals per game, whoever stars has some for sure DFS value. The LA Kings are a shell of their former selves and will struggle to keep pace with the depth of the full four lines of Pittsburgh.

Beans Puck Pick- Las Vegas Golden Knights–167
The New look speedy Oilers, lost to Anaheim last night in a game they needed to win. Now the head into Las Vegas, a team that has won their last five straight at home and six games in a row. The additions of a strong backup goalie bin Robin Lehner and centre Nick Cousins are fantastic pick ups for Las Vegas. As long as the Knights can stay out of the penalty box against Edmonton’s first ranked powerplay, I think they have a great chance to put the Oilers away.

There may be a few other matchups I may like, however it depends who the puck stopper is. Stay tuned to the #nhl and # sports betting tabs on Discord, as well as Twitter for any changes or more potential matchups as more news unfolds!

NHL Update

The NHL Playoff picture is beginning to take shape. With about 70% of the season behind us here are your division leaders and their respective Stanley Cup Odds. The Capitals have maintained their points lead over the surging Penguins, while the Lightning has won 8 in a row in an attempt to catch the Bruins. All 4 teams see their odds stay about the same to win the Stanley Cup, while the entire Pacific Division attempts to sort out who will represent them in the playoffs and who will settle for a Wildcard spot.

Before the first puck of the season dropped for the 2019-2020 NHL season we offered Over/Under Point Totals for each team. The Islanders and Blue Jackets are on their way to hitting the over while the Devils and Red Wings are running out of gas to get them over the finish line.

PuckRecord for February (52-44)

PuckRecap: Monday night (1-0)

Onlyone game last night, fourteen tonight! Last night Columbussnuck out an ugly win against the Senators. Most definitely the least excitingpart of the NHL action toady. We’ll get into that a bit later. Will just make afew picks today, as a lot of the lines are -200 or lower. Let’s look at tonight’s puck action.

Pork’sPuck Pick- New Jersey Devils – 130

TheDetroit Redwings got rid of Andre Athanasiou and Mike Green to the EdmontonOilers, two quite skilled players where the Devil’s, in my opinion didn’t losemuch. Sammi Vatenen, who has been injured for quitea while and Wayne Simmons, a big body on the power play and a solid voicein the room. Simmons could be replaced on the power play by Myles Wood in myopinion and would gain more speed there as well. With Louis Domingue gettingshipped off to Vancouver, it is now McKenzie Blackwood’s net to puck stop fulltime. He has won his last six starts with two shutouts and has only allowedseven goals in that span. Both games this season the Devils have won in NewJersey by scores of four to one and five to one. Two reasons why I am nottaking the puck line is, Detroit Redwings are keeping games close lately and thisgame is in Detroit. I feel confident in the Devils on the money line.

Rib’sPuck Pick- Minnesota Wild-175

TheColumbus Blue Jackets played Ottawa last night and squeezed out a win. As thatpick was a puck pickwinner, it didn’t instil any type of confidence movingforward. As Derek Grant was acquired by Columbus at the deadline and shouldsuit up tonight, I don’t believe he will be a big difference maker in scoringgoals, which the Jackets so desperately need. The Ottawa win snapped an eight gamelosing skid for Columbus who have also had trouble keeping pucks out of theirnet. It was quite yesterday in Minnesota interns of deadline moves. There hadbeen a rumor that Zach Parise was headed to the Islanders for Andrew Ladd andsome other, however that never came to fruition. The home team has won both ofthe games in the season series and tonight that’s where the Wild find them selves. With a six and fiverecord in February, I see the Wild winning tonight and continuing bro push forthe playoffs.

BeansPuck Pick- Edmonton Oilers -152

Oneof the winners of trade deadline day was the Oilers! They picked up AndreAthanasiou and Tyler Ennis today as well as Mike Green last night. This adds alot of depth to the Oilers and strengthens and already incredible power play. There is now the ability to split up McDavid and Draisaitl and still have scoringpower throughout the line up. The speed of both McDavid and Athanasiou shouldterrify top defensive units and still keep Draisaitl and Nugent Hopkinstogether on the second line, who showed great chemistry with McDavid out of thelineup. While the Anaheim ducks have been keeping games close lately, they havenot been able to pull out many wins. I see this test continuing tonight as theOilers come away victorious with their shiny new players.

Pucknews and notes around the NHL;

Thetrade deadline didn’t disappoint today there are a lot of different takes outthere. I thought I would add mine to to the mix. I will try to keep this asbetting related as I can.

LasVegas Golden Knights

Ithink the Knights made the most significant move in acquiring Robin Lehner fromChicago. This was one of their two glaring needs and this move could shore upboth. Vegas did also acquired Alex Martinez from LA however to have a stellarbackup in Lehner should give Marc Andre Fluery some much needed rest for theplayoff run. This move I think should be the largest jump in Stanley CupFavourite

EdmontonOilers

Iam not sure that the Oilers did enough on their back end to make a long run inthe playoffs. Mike Green is a nice piece, but I was hoping for more of astay at home defenseman. However the addition of Andre Athanasiou and TylerEnnis add someone to skate with McDavid and added depth to the second and thirdlines. With a team that already puts the puck in the net often, especially onthe power play, adding a thirty goal scorer in Athanasiou can only help thosestats. These moves make them right there as a potential favorite to win the Pacific.

TheNew York Islanders

TheIslanders needed scoring. I believe they got a great piece in Jean-PierreGabriel Pageau. After the trade they also signed him to a six year, thirtymillion dollar extension according to the New York Islanders twitter channel. Iam not sure what this does in term of betting however I know believe they getinto the playoffs and could for sure be a contender for a first round upset. There are a few other matchups I may like, however it depends who thepuck stopper is. Top Expensive Line

Tampa Bay One – Brayden Point, Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov

The hapless Maple Leafs have been free-falling for a while now and things are not looking up tonight. Toronto has a sub .500 record over their last ten games. Tampa Bay has been the polar opposite, winning eight of their last ten and shooting up the standings as they look to recapture last year’s regular-season form. The Lightning is one of the biggest winners of the NHL’s trade deadline, adding the likes of Blake Coleman and others for next to nothing. Nikita Kucherov and the company come into this matchup -180 favorites with a healthy 3.72 implied goal total. I like them a lot more than slumping Washington, the other expensive favorite on this slate.

Top Value Line

Nashville Three – Craig Smith, Kyle Turris, Rocco Grimaldi

It is rare that you have a pair of third liners on the first power-play unit, but that it the case here. Craig Smith has been shooting up a ton lately and is the priority skater of the three linemates. Fortunately, none of the three are priced appropriately, opening up significant value. Nashville is a massive -290 favorite with a 4.20 implied goal total, both easily slate highs. In cash games, you will need a piece of the Predators. Given the power play correlation and savings that this line provides, you can also add in Roman Josi, who is likely to be one of the most popular players on the slate.

Puck Recap: Sunday night (4-1)

We nailed all of the four article puck picks with Dallas, Calgary, Sy. Louis and New York Islanders. The live bet on the Winnipeg Jets after the first period was the lone loss on the night. Let’s get into a slow puck night on the ice.

The Puck Pick- Columbus Blue Jackets -190

With only a one-game slate we are going to take the easy money line here. It appears as though the Blue Jackets will have their number one puck stopper back on Joonas Korpisalo back on time for this contest. Ottawa has only won six games on the road this season. This battle comes down to defense where the Blue Jackets rank second in the league in goals-against vs Ottawa in the twenty-eighth spot. Columbus has struggled to set the goal cannon sitting in twenty sevenths in the league compared to Ottawa who is actually one spot better in twenty-sixth. Tonight is the night Columbus ends their eight-game skid in a tight-checking defensive Battle.

Puck news and notes around the NHL;

This is something I want to start doing more consistently in these articles to start getting ready for the playoffs and potential mismatches baling the way, as well as stay up to date on some important goings-on around the league. Tomorrow is a trade deadline day. One of my favorite days of the season. I feel bad for the players having to up and move their lives, but the potential impact they can make to their new team down the stretch and going into the playoffs is very exciting. Here are some moves that happened tonight

Tampa Bay signs free agent defenseman Zach Bogosian

You can never have enough quality d-men coming down the stretch in case of injury or poor play. And the Lightning didn’t give anything up in return.

Washington traded a third-round draft pick for Illya Kovalchuk

Penalty kills every should be scares of two guys that can blast the puck like Alex Ovechkin and Illya Kovalchuk.

Detroit trade Mike Green to Edmonton for Kyle Brodziak and a conditional draft pick in either 2020 or 2021.

Mike Green still has some left in the tank. His experience in the NHL and the playoffs could be a great asset for this young Oilers team. It might be an upgrade on an already deadly powerplay unit as well.
