Last night’s slate had a ton of goals and some crazy storylines. Usually, Fridays are lighter slates. However, today, we’ve got a nice six gamer to look at. Tonight’s 12/15 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

12/15 NHL Stack Report

1. New York Rangers 2 (Panarin-Trocheck-Lafrenier)

— Leading off the article today are the high-flying New York Rangers, who have amassed a 19-7-1 record, good enough for the best record in the Metro Division and the fourth-best record in the NHL. Tonight, the Rangers are matched up with the team with the second-worst record in the NHL, the Anaheim Ducks, who are currently on the wrong side of a four-game losing stream. The Ducks have benefitted from being solid both offensively and defensively while also taking all the opportunities that come their way. So much so that the Rangers have the second-best power play in the league, converting those opportunities at a 30.5% rate. Compared to 22.7% for the Ducks. Luckily for the Rangers, while they are sound offensively and defensively, the Ducks are neither. The Ducks barely shoot, barely score and spend most of each game with the puck in their defensive zone. As a result, the Ducks have posted one of the worst goal-against averages in the league at 3.43 goals against per game while also letting over 31.5 shots against per game. It should come as no surprise that the bookmakers have heavily skewed this matchup in the Rangers’ favor (-298 and a 3.9 implied goal total), and even though the Rangers’ top line has found good success, it’s the second line that’s been more a more consistent scoring threat in my opinion, while also providing some salary relief for your Daily Fantast lineups.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Adam Fox

2. Vegas Golden Knights 1 (Barbashev-Eichel-Stone)

— On a slate with many high implied totals, Vegas’ offence is coming in at the highest of the 12 teams with an implied total of 4 xG. That’s down to many reasons. For starters, the Golden Knights have some incredible death with scoring threats up and down the lineup. They proved that with their cup run last year if you take a shift off, they will punish those mistakes. Not only were they consistent in punishing errors last season, but this season, they have picked up right where they left off, starting with a 20-5-5 record for the season, amassing the best record in the NHL by quite a bit. Even with the few injuries they have, Vegas hasn’t taken their foot off the gas as they have won four straight while their opponents, the Buffalo Sabres, have lost six of their last eight and are coming into Vegas tonight off at 5-1 thrashing on the road to the Avalanche.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Alex Pietrangelo (Honorable Mention(s): Zach Whitecloud)

Honorable Mention(s): Arizona Coyotes 2 (Macelli-Bjugstad-Crouse), Dallas Stars 2 (Marchment-Duchene-Seguin)

12/15 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Logan Thompson
  2. Connor Ingram
Honorable Mention(s): Jonathan Quick, Antti Raanta

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Mackenzie Blackwood
Honorable Mention(s): Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen, John Gibson

12/15 NHL Wild Card Targets

Chandler Stephenson
– As discussed above, the Golden Knights are a great team with an even better matchup, and although I have written down Vegas’ top line for stacking purposes, I did want to make a special mention of Chandler Stephenson, who has been tearing it up as of late with three goals and three assists over his last four games. In each of those games, he registered at least two shots and saw around 18 minutes of ice time. His stats will benefit just as much from the matchup against the Sabres as the Golden Knights’ top line will, and his recent success has me thinking that he will definitely find himself on the score sheet tonight.

Honorable Mention(s): Lawson Crouse-Matias Macelli, Stefan Noesen

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Vincent Trocheck

Winger Mark Stone

Defenseman – Brady Skjei

Goalie Logan Thompson

It’s Tuesday, which means we have a healthy sized 10 game slate. This one should feature a ton of options and we won’t have to worry too much about ownership tonight. Let’s look at the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins: The Pens host the Coyotes tonight, who are on the second leg of a traveling back to back. Jarry has some solid numbers of late, and this should be a decent play.

Logan Thompson – Vegas Golden Knights: This is an upside play, as Thompson should see some shot volume. Calgary had a nice night last night from a scoring perspective, but being on a back-to-back should be good for Thompson and the Knights.

Joonas Korpisalo – Ottawa Senators: It’s been a while since we recommended a goalie from Ottawa, but this is a great spot for Korpi, as the Sens host the Hurricanes tonight. Not only are the Canes on a skid, but they still love throwing low danger shots at the net. There should be a good upside potential to this play tonight.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Ville Husso – Detroit Red Wings: This is an interesting spot for Husso and the Wings, as he should see a decent amount of shots. The Blues have been struggling very hard to score of late, so this is an intriguing spot for a low owned win. Don’t play Husso and the Blues in the same lineup.

Others to Consider: Sergei Bobrovsky (FLA), Laurent Brossoit (WPG), Jordan Binnington (STL)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Edmonton Oilers 1 – Connor McDavid/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins/Zach Hyman/Evan Bouchard: The Oilers seem to have finally found their stride, winning their last five and putting up almost 3 goals per game in that stretch. They are producing a ton of chances and Chicago surrenders a ton of chances, so this is a prime spot for one of the best offensive teams in the league. Don’t be afraid to mix in a power play look here or there as well.

Toronto Maple Leafs Power Play – Auston Matthews/John Tavares/Mitch Marner/William Nylander/Morgan Rielly: We are going right back to the well with the Leafs tonight, as they get a date in New York with the Rangers. The preference here is the top line, but the power play look works as well. Igor for the Rangers has been absolutely terrible, so there should be plenty of chances to score tonight.

Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – Brayden Point/Brandon Hagel/Nikita Kucherov/Victor Hedman: The Lightning head west tonight to take on the Canucks in Vancouver, and this line should see the Miller line for most of the night. That creates a great matchup for this line in what should be a pretty fun game to watch.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Ottawa Senators 2 – Tim Stutzle/Drake Batherson/Vladimir Tarasenko/Jake Sanderson: This second line should spend the majority of its night against the second line of the Hurricanes in a fantastic matchup. Ottawa hasn’t quite been a scoring machine, which is why this is a little high risk, but they should be high on your list tonight.

St. Louis Blues 2 – Pavel Buchnevich/Brandon Saad/Kasperi Kapanen: This second line should see a bunch of the third Detroit line in a very nice matchup. L3 is also in play here, so feel free to mix and match.

Philadelphia Flyers 1 – Sean Couturier/Travis Konecny/Tyson Foerster/Cam York: The Flyers head to Nashville tonight to take on the Preds, and this line should be in a good sot. They should be up against the top line for most of the night, but get some chances against the third line, which is where they can really shine. Konecny has been on fire lately.

Winnipeg Jets 3 – Adam Lowry/Mason Appleton/Nino Niederreiter: This third line should see the likes of San Jose’s third line tonight in a VERY NICE matchup. They should see plenty of chances, and will be pretty sneaky. If you aren’t feeling very frisky, Winnipeg’s top line is very much in play as well against the second line for the Sharks.

We ease into the week with a nice four game slate. This slate feels like it is going to be very high variance. Let’s look at the best NHL DFS plays for tonight. Good luck!

Goalies

Alexandar Georgiev – Colorado Avalanche: On a night where goalies feel unsafe across the board, Georgiev is one that we can lean on. He appears to carry some of the least risk on the slate, and it still doesn’t feel comfortable. The Avs host the Flames tonight in what should be a winnable game for them.

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: The Stars host the Red Wings tonight, and this is a scary, scary pick. Otter has been terrible of late, but he is one of the most talented goalies on the slate. He should be able to bounce back against a Red Wings team that will be rolling out some pretty ugly lines.

Ilya Samsonov – Toronto Maple Leafs: The Leafs head to New York tonight to face off against the Islanders in what should be a decent matchup for them. This is a good spot for Samsonov.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Ilya Sorokin – New York Islanders: This is a good upside spot for Sorokin who has some solid numbers of late. He gets a home matchup tonight against the Leafs, who should fire a ton of shots his way. The Leafs are good at scoring, so this one could be ugly, but will be very valuable in GPP if he is able to keep them at bay.

Others to Consider: Karel Vejmelka (ARI)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Dallas Stars Power Play – Roope Hintz/Jamie Benn/Joe Pavelski/Jason Robertson/Miro Heiskanen: We are operating under the impression that Roope Hintz will be back for the Stars after sitting out last game with an illness. If he does not go, then Wyatt Johnston goes in his place in this play. The Stars are ranked 8th on the power play and the Wings rank 21st on the penalty kill. The best part is that the Wings are second in the league in times shorthanded per game, so there should be plenty of chances for this group.

Toronto Maple Leafs Power Play – Auston Matthews/John Tavares/Mitch Marner/William Nylander/Morgan Rielly: The Leafs have a great power play matchup tonight against the Islanders. They should see plenty of chances, and we know how lethal this unit can be.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Arizona Coyotes 2 – Nick Bjugstad/Lawson Crouse/Matias Maccelli: The second line for the Coyotes has a very solid matchup against the second line for the Sabres. This is a loose matching situation, so they won’t see them full time, but the matchup will be there to set them up for some upside.

Colorado Avalanche 1 – Nathan MacKinnon/Mikko Rantanen/Valeri Nichushkin/Cale Makar: At first glance, this looks like a grade-A matchup for the Avalanche, but once we dig into the numbers, we find that this line might actually be limited tonight. They will most likely garner some ownership, so you may want some in multiple entries. It is Colorado, after all, so there is always upside around this line.

New York Islanders 2 – Brock Nelson/Kyle Palmieri/Pierre Engvall: The Isles second line has a good matchup against the top six for the Leafs, who, as good as they are offensively, aren’t great at defense. In particular, when this line matches up with the top line, they will see their chances.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: ARI3, BUF2

Value Options – DraftKings

Center: Alex Kerfoot ($3400) – Arizona Coyotes

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Jean-Gabriel Pageau ($3900) – New York Islanders

We are back with another WinDaily Between the Benches Article! This Friday, we have three games going tonight with some interesting matchups to look over. Tonight’s 12/8 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

12/8 NHL Stack Report

1. Florida Panthers 1 (Reinhart-Barkov-Rodrigues)

— To start off the article, we have one of my favourite teams to rely on for Daily Fantasy this season, the Florida Panthers. They have continued their winning ways from their NHL playoff run last season and have burst into the new season with a 15-8-2 record. Especially their top line, who have really led their offensive charge this season. All three members of the top line are in the top four of the Panthers’ scoring leaders (Rodrigues is one point away from third place), and Reinhart, in particular, has really exploded this season, sitting in 10th in the league for points and second in the league in goals on the year with 17 goals and 15 assists. They are also facing off against a Penguins side who are without Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust and sliding on a three-game losing streak. Not only have the Panthers been red hot, but they are in a great matchup. With the slate as small as it is, I love the Panthers’ top line as a daily fantasy option tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Aaron Ekblad (Honorable Mention(s): Gustav Forsling)

2. Edmonton Oilers 1 (Hyman-McDavid-Nugent-Hopkins)

— The Oilers have the highest implied total of the slate and the highest odds of winning. It’s for good reason, too, as they have really found their form over the last two weeks, winning five straight games and scoring at least five goals in all but one of them (a 3-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets). Over these five games, McDavid has exploded for 16 points (2 goals, 14 assists), and his linemates have benefitted from the boost in product as well, with Hyman recording 11 points over his last five games (7 goals, 4 assists) and Nugent Hopkins scoring five points over his last five games. Of course, this significant production has given the Oilers’ top line a significant price tag. Even though the Oilers’ second line is also a viable option tonight, I cannot ignore the form we have been seeing from the Oilers’ first line as of late. If you can fit them into your fantasy lines, I would recommend adding a piece from this high-performing team into your daily fantasy lineups tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Evan Bouchard (Honorable Mention(s): Mattias Ekholm)

Honorable Mention(s): Minnesota Wild 2 (Boldy-Eriksson Ek-Johansson), Colombus Blue Jackets 1 (Danforth-Jenner-Gaudreau)

12/8 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Sergei Bobrovsky
  2. Stuart Skinner
    Honorable Mention(s): Jet Greaves

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Tristan Jarry
Honorable Mention(s): Jordan Binnington

12/8 NHL Wild Card Targets

Adam Fantilli
– Fantilli was the third-overall pick in last year’s draft and is having an impressive year compared to most of his draft class. Especially as of late, where Fantilli has scored five points over his last four games, including a three-point night against the New York Islanders. He is starting on the Blue Jackets third line but has seen up to 19 minutes of ice time this season. The Blue Jackets trust this kid so much that he also appears on their top power-play unit. He is a nice value piece on a slate where most solid plays come with a hefty price tag.

Honorable Mention(s): Brayden Schenn, Evan Rodrigues

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Connor McDavid

Winger Sam Reinhart

Defenseman – Aaron Ekblad (Gustav Forsling for Value)

Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky (Jet Greaves for Value)
