FanDuel MLB Daily Lineups: Slate Summary for August 5

We finally have a large FanDuel MLB slate to play through! But, while there are 16 games on the MLB schedule, only 14 games fit into the key FanDuel MLB slates.

We start the night off with the Nats and Mets at 6:05 PM ET, which fits only in the Early Only and All Day slates. The Red Sox and Rays also only fit into those slates.

Considering the options in the Early Only slate, I’m likely to have a few GPP and cash lineups, so I’ll provide thoughts on roster sports for that slate.

From there, though, we have a bigger 12 game slate, with plenty of solid starting pitchers to snag, and a bunch of teams to stack on offense. Let’s start off, with top pitching for each slate.

Top Pitching Plays

Honestly, the Main slate SP is quite simple. Max Scherzer ($11,000) should out-pace the other three starting pitchers with enough FanDuel MLB points that paying for his chalk is worth it. Drink it up!

NameK/9HR/9K%BB%AVGWHIPBABIPERAxFIPSlate
Max Scherzer     12.84             0.935.4%5.4%       0.219            1.04          0.322        2.92         2.82Early
Mike Clevinger     11.82             0.933.1%7.7%       0.212            1.08          0.301        2.89         3.20Main
Yu Darvish     11.50             1.631.3%7.4%       0.211            1.09          0.269        3.91         3.32Main
Tejay Antone     10.38             2.129.4%5.9%       0.067            0.46                 –          2.08         3.71Main

The Main slate is a little more complicated. But, there’s a clear way to delineate the best options. Mike Clevinger ($9,600) is one of the better SPs on the mound tonight, but the Reds have fared well against RHP’s on the road this season.

Instead, I’d rather save $100 and go with Yu Darvish ($9,500), his 31.3% K-rate, and 3.32 xFIP against a Royals roster with a low 84 wRC+ against RHP’s at home and a 25% K-rate.

Given his stats since early 2019 and the match-up, Darvish is likely the best play of the night at the SP position. However, Tejay Antone ($5,500) offers some insane value on FanDuel MLB in this slate as well.

It may seem risky to plug a pitcher who’s only faced one big-league squad in his career, but Antone fanned five Cubs hitters in 4.1 innings, giving up only one hit, one walk, and one earned run in his first ever MLB start.

Against the current Cubs offense, that’s impressive! But, it gets better!

The Indians actually have a dreadful 80 wRC+ at home against RHP’s this season. And, their 23% K-rate makes Antone seem awfully under-priced in this slate.

Again, there’s risk with Tejay because we’ve only seen one start from the RHP. But, given the metrics, this sure seems like one of those unique situations were we get a solid unknown pitcher at a very low MLB DFS price.

Hitting Stacks, Value, and Best Plays

For the Early Only slate, the offense is pretty easy. Stack the chalky Nats with guys like Juan Soto ($3,900), Trea Turner ($3,400), Adam Eaton ($2,700), and Starlin Castro ($2,400).

Next, find some affordable bats from the Rays, and maybe through in a Red Sox or two into the lineup as well. Xander Bogaerts ($3,600) has a solid righty-lefty match-up, although Yabrough is a tough pitcher.

NameK/9HR/9K%BB%AVGWHIPBABIPERAxFIPOpponentSlate
Rick Porcello        7.44             1.618.5%6.3%       0.281            1.45          0.316        5.79         5.17WASEarly
Julio Teheran        8.35             1.121.5%11.0%       0.225            1.32          0.266        3.81         5.26MarinersMain
Trevor Williams        7.13             1.718.1%7.1%       0.277            1.42          0.304        5.38         5.26TwinsMain

For the Main Slate, your route depends on if you took Antone or Darvish as your SP. With Antone, stacking the expensive Twins is an absolutely must. I’m plugging Nelson Cruz ($4,100) into both lineups, and will add Max Kepler ($3,100) and Jorge Polanco ($3,200) with the Antone lineup.

With Darvish in my SP slot, I’m going to use Mariners bats for affordability. But, in the Antone lineup, I’m flipping those picks to guys like David Dahl ($3,800), Mike Yastrzemski ($3,900), Jose Altuve ($3,600), Alex Bregman ($3,900), and Anthony Rizzo ($3,800).

FanDuel MLB August 5 Lineup Summary

Major League Baseball is finally back to a big schedule for Wednesday, but FanDuel MLB options narrow quickly for the Early Only, All Day, and Main slates.

For the Early Only, put most of your chips on the Nationals, as they’re hosting a struggling Mets ball club with Scherzer as a clear top SP for the slate. Stack the Nats bats, then move to the Rays, and finally add a sprinkle of top Red Sox plays.

The Main slate is a little more complex. You have some solid overall fantasy baseball pitchers in this slate, but Darvish has the greatest MLB DFS ceiling, and Antone has the greatest value.

With Darvish, I’m stacking the Twins and Mariners. But with Antone, I’m stacking Twins and flipping my Seattle bats to buy some of the most expensive options at every position. But with the price-tag, I’m looking for consistently great MLB DFS plays this season, like Yas, Rizzo, and others.

Hopefully, you all were on the Discord last night to catch all of our discussions that lead to a very nice night of cashing! Let’s run it back today. The August 5th edition of Aces and Bases will take on the main MLB DFS slates on DraftKings and FanDuel.

The purpose of this article is to identify our top pitching plays and fades on the slate, in addition to our top offense stacks for your GPP lineups.

Please make sure you keep an eye on the weather and other factors as those are always important things to monitor when playing MLB DFS. Be sure to check out our MLB DFS Projections as well. Without further ado, it’s Aces and Bases time.

MLB DFS: The Aces

Best Value: Luis Castillo ($8,900 DK / $9,900 FD)

Castillo got beat up a bit last time out against the Tigers of all teams. I am ready brush that off though as he produced a massive 22 whiffs through the outing. The usually great changeup was left in the zone in a bit and got knocked around letting in 5 runs.

Castillo should have a good bounce back week facing off against a Cleveland team that has one of the worst barrel rates in the league coming in at 3.8% right now.

Honorable Mentions: Dylan Bundy

Top Ace(s): Mike Clevinger ($9,200 DK / $9,600 FD) Yu Darvish($10,400 DK / $9,500 FD)

Darvish looked great carving up the Pirates for 7ks over 6 shutout innings. Darvish is starting to find his form this year and now gets the Royals who are in the top 5 in Ks, and the bottom 5 in walks taken.

Clevinger wasn’t his normal mad man self last appearance, allowing 4 earned runs and a ugly 5 walks. Now, he did face an evil Twins lineup who is ruining every pitchers day, but he was not the 34% K rate Clevinger we saw last year. I still believe in Clevinger though and the walks should come down and Ks up.

Honorable Mention: Hyun Jin Ryu

Punt Play: Randy Dobnak ($7,000 DK / $6,600 FD)

Dobnak tossed 5 scoreless innings against the Indians last time out. Dobnak isn’t going to wow anyone with a performance but he should be a safe play to get a bunch of outs against Pittsburgh.

Honorable Mentions: Ross Stripling / Garret Richards

Top Fade: Sean Manaea ($8,600 DK / $6,800 FD)

$8,600 seems hefty here. Its so tough to be effective while sitting at 89-90mph on the 4-seamer. Manaea had a hard time getting outs against Seattle so it’ll be a bit before we look forward to one of his starts.

Honorable Mention: Adrian Houser

MLB DFS: The Bases

There are a ton of different ways to build your offense on these big slates. Personally, I’m going to take a stand on a few offenses and call it a day. If you’re play MME style of GPPs, you can always get some exposure to more offenses, but for 3-Entry Max and Single Entry GPPs, I’m going to battle with a very limited player pool, as I really want to pick on a couple of starting pitchers and weaker bullpens.

We all know the importance of stacking when play MLB DFS GPPs, so here are my top stacks for the Wednesday’s Main Slate.

Top Stacks

  1. Minnesota Twins – The Twins continue to tear apart anyone in their path. Trevor Williams and the reinforcements of the Pirates pen should be no exception
  2. Colorado Rockies – Not much to say here. The Rockies will be ready to tee off against Logan Webb in Coors.

Value Stacks

  1. Toronto Blue Jays– The Blue Jays draw Sean Newcomb today and a ailing Braves staff. Newcomb has only made it through 7.2ip through 2 starts with a measly 5 strikeouts. On top of that Newcomb is allowing a 40% hard hit rate.
  2. San Francisco Giants– This seems like an obvious one to me. The Giants might have a high draft percentage today but its always good to have a piece of the Coors action.

FanDuel MLB Daily Lineups: Slate Summary for August 3

With the Cardinals continuing to test positive for COVID-19, we’re once again down to a smaller FanDuel MLB slate than originally planned. There’s an All Day option including Sonny Gray and the Reds hosting the Indians.

That aside, we only have an eight-game ‘Main’ FanDuel MLB slate for Monday, August 3rd 2020. Fortunately, with Cole, deGrom, Gray, and other great arms on the mound, this smaller slate should still see a smoother spread of ownership.

Additionally, we also have several horrendous starting pitchers to target for stacking, which also makes our offense easier to spread out over rosters, as well. Alright, let’s start with a brief look at pitching….

Top Pitching Plays

Gerrit Cole ($11,000) and Jacob deGrom ($10,700) are obviously the top pitching plays of this slate. However, the obvious factor makes them a bit chalky, and their match-ups aren’t ideal.

I suspect some MLB DFS players will then pivot down to Walker Buehler ($10,000) to save some cash, but Buehler understandably struggled against the Astros. And the Padres offense, while not as great as the Astros, is 7th in baseball with a 145 wRC+ against RHP’s. So it’s a false lure.

NameK/9BB/9HR/9K%BB%AVGWHIPBABIPERAxFIP
Gerrit Cole   13.6        2.1      1.25 39.30%5.90%  0.182        0.88      0.265    2.53     2.59
Jacob deGrom   11.2        1.9      0.80 31.70%5.50%  0.200        0.95      0.276    2.39     3.13
Walker Buehler   10.6        1.8      1.02 29.00%5.10%  0.221        1.04      0.288    3.29     3.37
Chris Paddack     9.7        1.9      1.42 26.70%5.30%  0.205        0.98      0.242    3.20     4.00
Alec Mills     9.6        2.8      1.29 25.90%7.50%  0.214        1.10      0.262    2.79     4.06

Chris Paddack ($9,100) is where your eyes take you next, and he’s had a solid start to this wacky-ass season. But, again the match-up against the Dodgers offense is terrible.

That brings me back to Alex Mills ($7,000), who I’ve touted before. Sure, Mills isn’t of the caliber SP as the other four I’ve mentioned, but he has a nearly 26% K-rate since earlier last season, a low 1.10 WHIP, and a fairly decent 4.06 xFIP.

And, the match-up against Mills is ideal. The Royals offense has looked OK at times, but they have a 25% K-rate against RHP’s both home and away, and their wRC+ is 90 against RHPs away from home, even worse at home.

So, this is an ideal time to utilize the value from Mills, once again, considering his pitching metrics and match-up.

Hitting Stacks, Value, and Best Plays

The Twins and Cubs are a bit pricey to stack, but they have some of the juiciest SP match-ups in this slate. The Twins, in particular with nelson Cruz ($4,200) crushing baseballs lately, are facing Derek Holland and his 2 HR/9 Innings over the last season and a half.

NameK/9BB/9HR/9K%BB%AVGWHIPBABIPERAxFIPOpponent
Justus Sheffield     9.0        5.1      1.15 21.20%12.00%  0.296        1.77      0.365    6.00     4.80 OAK
Danny Duffy     8.0        3.0      1.41 21.10%7.90%  0.244        1.27      0.280    4.44     5.09 CHC
Johnny Cueto     7.6        4.9      1.52 19.40%12.60%  0.227        1.39      0.250    5.32     5.13 COL
Derek Holland     8.7        4.8      2.10 21.90%12.10%  0.244        1.47      0.267    5.90     5.25 MIN
Chi Chi Gonzalez     6.6        4.7      1.57 16.60%11.90%  0.242        1.46      0.257    5.29     5.33 SFG

I’m not sure I’m ready to pay up for Nolan Arenado ($4,000) until he can show me he’s heating up this season. But, the Rockies should have one of the better fantasy baseball stacks on Monday night, so at least David Dahl ($3,900) and Charlie Blackmon ($4,300) are worth the price.

For value, though, I really like the A’s and Giants in this slate. Yes, Mike Yastrzemski ($3,800) has become and expensive OF pick, but his lefty bat is also hitting .343 with two home runs and 10 runs, leading off for the Giants. and the RHP Rockies SP Gonzalez should allow Mike to keep piling on that nearly 16 FanDuel PPG average this season.

For some value in the Rockies and Giants game, consider lefties Raimel Tapia ($2,500) and Steven Dugger ($2,500).

My favorite play for the A’s is right-handed hitter Ramon Laureano ($3,400) facing lefty Justus Sheffield. You can tag on any other lefty bats from there.

FanDuel MLB August 3 Lineup Summary

Don’t over-complicate the situation at pitcher. You could spend hours trying to figure out which of deGrom, Cole, Buehler, and Paddack will have a great night.

Instead, I’m going with the simple value play that Mills offers against the Royals. We should get a solid 30+ FanDuel MLB points out of this pick, with plenty of cash for expensive stacks.

With plenty of money to use for offense, you can start with value picks in the Giants and Rockies game, while adding big plays like Yas and Blackmon. Laureano is still a great value from the A’s lineup as well.

The Twins and Cubs could appear a bit expensive for this slate, but they also have the highest upside. Don’t hesitate to pick someone like Nelson Cruz, if you can afford him!

Hopefully, you all were on the Discord last night to catch all of our discussions that lead to a very nice night of cashing! Let’s run it back today. The August 3rd edition of Aces and Bases will take on the main MLB DFS slates on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Best Value: Frankie Montas ($7,200 DK / $7,700 FD)

Montas scared me a bit last week, only producing 3Ks and 3 whiffs on the slider. The redeeming factor was his sinker. The sinker was coming in a tick slower at 95mph, but he was able stay on the edges and make it through 5 innings on 77 pitches. Montas draws the Mariners today and hopefully we see the strikeout numbers jump up here.

Honorable Mentions: Chris Paddack

Top Ace(s): Walker Buehler ($10,300 DK / $10,000 FD) Jacob DeGrom ($11,600 DK / $10,700 FD) Gerrit Cole ($11,000 / $11,000)

Walker got through just 56 pitches with 3Ks last time out against the Astros. It was not the prettiest start either. The Padres present an easier challenge and Buehler’s fastball still looked as good as we believe it is. Buehler will be a good play with all the top names on the board today.

DeGrom touched 101mph his last time out! He is dope and does dope things. The Braves lineup is not the easiest but if anyone is match up proof its DeGrom.

Speaking of being dope. Gerrit Cole gets the Phillies today. Cole racked up 7Ks facing Baltimore last week, letting up 3 earned over his 6.2 innings pitched. Cole is yet another option on pick your ace day.

Honorable Mention: Mike Soroka

Punt Play: Carlos Rodon ($7,000 DK / $6,600 FD)

This one is a bit shaky. Rodon’s sliders was awesome last year, sadly it has not been consistently good so far this year. Rodon is always a bit of a toss up but this Brewers line up simply is not that scary, especially with the way Yelich has started his year.

Honorable Mention: Danny Duffy

Top Fade: Brett Anderson ($7,300 DK / $6,700 FD)

The veteran lefty is going to make his season debut against a white hot White Sox team that is finding their stride at the plate. The lineup is loaded with right handed power and should continue rolling here in Milwaukee

Honorable Mention: Nobody

MLB DFS: The Bases

There are a ton of different ways to build your offense on these big slates. Personally, I’m going to take a stand on a few offenses and call it a day. If you’re play MME style of GPPs, you can always get some exposure to more offenses, but for 3-Entry Max and Single Entry GPPs, I’m going to battle with a very limited player pool, as I really want to pick on a couple of starting pitchers and weaker bullpens.

We all know the importance of stacking when play MLB DFS GPPs, so here are my top stacks for the Monday’s Main Slate.

Top Stacks

  1. Minnesota Twins – The Twins square up with Derek Holland tomorrow. Holland has always struggled getting righties out and the twins heart of the order is stacked with right handed power. Get the big bats in here.
  2. Chicago White Sox – The White Sox are white hot right now, scoring 20 runs in their last two contests. Just like the twins they get a good lefty match up, with plenty of right handed middle of the order power.

Value Stacks

  1. Oakland Athletics– The Athletics get the Mariners to start the week, a rotation and bullpen we will be picking often this year. I did not love Sheffields approach in his first outing, saw way too many sinkers and not enough 4-seamers. Look at the back end of the lineup here for some good plays.
  2. San Francisco Giants– This seems like an obvious one to me. The Giants might have a high draft percentage today but its always good to have a piece of the Coors action.

MLB GPP Picks 8/2

In this article I will be breaking down MLB GPP Picks 8/2 seven game slate.  I will hit a player from each position. If I am interested in a player on only one site, I will be site specific. I will be using DraftKings pricing for this article.

We have a full Sunday full of sports and my basketball article is already written. Here I will be diving into my MLB GPP Picks 8/2 with a smaller seven game main slate. Pitching again is very ugly on this slate as Aaron Civale is the highest priced pitcher squaring off against the Twins. Pitching will be tough to get correct on this slate, as not many of these pitchers have real strikeout upside. Join myself and the rest of the WinDaily staff in the Discord chat as we confirm our selections and strategies as team lineups trickle in.

Pitcher

DylanCease – ($8,400)

As amentioned already pitching is going to be tough to figure out, but if Civale isgoing to be the highest priced pitcher like he is expected to be I will fadethat. I will role out Cease as he faces the Royals and he has a K rate of 24%.The Royals have six high strikeout hitters, and two of the hitters that aren’t highstrikeout players beat the ball into the ground at a near 50% rate.

Catcher

YasmaniGrandal – ($4,200)

I picked plentyof White Sox hitters last night and that paid off and I’m going right back tothe well as they face off against Jakob Junis who has yet to pitch this season andhad an ERA above five last season. Junis has lefties hit an exit velocity above95MPH nearly 44% of the time last season. Getting a switch-hitting catcherbatting cleanup is a bargain majority of the time.

1stBase

Jose Martinez– ($4,500)

Martinez isanother good Tampa Bay right hand hitter that hits lefties extremely well as heholds a .293 ISO and a .416 wOBA. Jose Martinez is extremely impressive againstlefties though as he only makes soft contact 9% of the time leaving his battedballs against lefties at 91% medium or hard contact.

2ndbase

JuricksonProfar – ($4,900)

Carryingonly a 14% strikeout rate and a near 80% contact rate against right handedpitching stands out. It stands out even further facing a pitcher that fails tomiss bats as Senzatela only has a 7% swinging strike rate, and an unimpressive13% K rate. I like Padres because of this in general but Profar should havezero issues putting the ball in play today with this matchup.

3rdbase

Rio Ruiz –($3,300)

Baltimorehas been surprisingly not as terrible as everyone thought they would thisseason in large due Ruiz as he is hitting above .318 and already has threehomeruns. I’m not sure how he is still priced this low, but he is facinganother right handed pitcher in Baltimore. On this slate it will be tough tofind a guy with this upside an production for the price,

Shortstop

FransiscoLindor – ($4,700)

Facing the Twinsand Devin Smeltzer today, Lindor should be a in for a good day. Smeltzerstruggles against right-handed hitters as he allows just 7.7% soft contact, buthe also is giving up nearly 45% hard hit rate against righties as well. AnIndians stack is definitely in play here as they have a very favorable matchup.

Outfielders

HunterRenfroe – ($4,300)

Let’s startoff with Renfroe smashes left handed pitching, he has a .317 ISO againstlefties. His fly ball rate is one we drool over at 52.4%, that correlates withhis air distance of 334.7 feet. Lastly, when squaring off against leftiesRenfroe has an exit velocity above 95MPH nearly 40% of the time! Looking at howRenfroe hits lefties and knowing Tommy Milone is far from a quality left handedpitcher, Renfroe should be in for a good day.

AdamDuvall – ($4,400)

The total forthis game is at 11 runs, which is the second highest total on the slate only behindthe Rockies game. Duvall smashes left handed pitching, he proves that with hismassive ISO of .396 against lefties. His fly ball rate and hard hit rate shouldbe a recipe for success as his fly ball rate is an absurd 64%, pair that withhis hard hit rate of 50% against lefties.

Thank you for reading my content MLB GPP Picks 8/2 seven game slate. Even though it is a smaller Sunday Matinee slate we should have plenty of offense due to the lack of pitching today. For my main stacks today, it will be the Padres, Rays, Cubs, Indians and White Sox. If you get those pitchers right today you should have a very profitable afternoon. Enjoy your Sunday full of sports as we have MLB, NBA, NHL, and Nascar on this wonderful day with sports back in full swing. Best of luck with all your DFS lineups on this action-packed day!

Hopefully, you all were on the Discord last night to catch all of our discussions that lead to a very nice night of cashing! Let’s run it back today. The August 1st edition of Aces and Bases will take on the main MLB DFS slates on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Best Value: Tyler Chatwood ($8,200 DK / $8,000 FD)

Tyler Chatwood, I can’t believe i’m saying this, but he looked good! There was some command there (only 2BBs) and man was the stuff good. The biggest change we saw with Chatwood was the cutter usage increase, he tossed it about 30% of the time last time out and saw great results striking out 8 over 6 innings, even had a extra tick of velo on it!

Chatwood draws a good match up today in the Pirates, hopefully he picks up where he left off, and for $8,000 i’m willing to take the chance.

Honorable Mentions: Luke Weaver

Top Ace(s): Tyler Glasnow ($9,300 DK / $9,800 FD) Carlos Carrasco ($9,200 / $9,400)

Carrasco was back to his usual self striking out 10 over 6 innings while only giving up one free pass in his season debut. Going to continue to trust Carlos and pretty much everyone else on this Indians staff until they give us a reason not to.

Glasnow looked like his amazing first half self against Atlanta to open to season, striking out 9 over only 4 innings! The Braves did manage get the pitch count up though so it was a bit of a early departure. Glasnow is going to have a high draft percentage today against Baltimore but he has reasonable price.

Honorable Mention: Nobody

Punt Play: Griffin Canning ($8,700 DK / $7,200 FD)

Pretty crazy price difference here. I’m sticking with Canning, even with this tough match up against the Astros, I believe in the stuff and the approach. Canning struck out 7 in just 4.2IP last time out but things got a bit hairy a couple times, and he let 3 runs come across. Canning should have a low draft percentage today, and i like his price much more on FD, but still worth a play on DK if you wanna load the bats up today.

Honorable Mention: Mitch Keller

Top Fade: Zach Grienke ($10,800 DK / $9,000 FD)

This price tag is crazy. Grienke’s fastball was coming in 87mph in his first start against the Mariners. That just does not play. We have seen this from Grienke before as his velo is usually down during sprig training and the first month of the season, so there is a chance he ramps it back it up to the usual 90mph or so this time out, but the Angels have been hitting lately. Im going to stick to the plays above, even without Trout in the lineup.

Honorable Mention: Julio Urias

MLB DFS: The Bases

There are a ton of different ways to build your offense on these big slates. Personally, I’m going to take a stand on a few offenses and call it a day. If you’re play MME style of GPPs, you can always get some exposure to more offenses, but for 3-Entry Max and Single Entry GPPs, I’m going to battle with a very limited player pool, as I really want to pick on a couple of starting pitchers and weaker bullpens.

We all know the importance of stacking when play MLB DFS GPPs, so here are my top stacks for the Saturday Main Slate.

Top Stacks

  1. Chicago White Sox – The Sox are coming together, adding another piece of the puzzle yesterday with Nick Madrigal joining the big league club. The Sox are facing the back end of the Royals rotation and should have no problem throwing some runs on the board.
  1. New York Yankees  – The Red Sox are rolling out Zack Godley to start the game and will be going to the bullpen early on the account of Godley not being stretched out yet. The usually high priced Yanks are a bit easier to stomach today with the premiums being placed on the Colorado game.

Value Stacks

  1. Kansas City Royals – The Royals have been great stacks to start the season, incredibly cheap for the production they are providing and just continue to hit. They draw the veteran Gio Gonzelaz today and will look to beat up on him early.
  2. Seattle Mariners – The Mariners have been playing some high scoring contests lately. Kyle Lewis is on insane heater right now and these bats will cost nothing and should have a low draft percentage.

Alright, ladies and gentlemen! Sorry for the delay in today’s posting but life happens. I have a nice little 11 game slate to dig in to for you this evening. Keep an eye out for coronavirus postponement (STL/MIL is already postponed and still listed on the slate). Here is my Win Daily Sports FanDuel main slate breakdown for 8.1.

Main Slate Breakdown for 8.1 Pitching:

Cash

Tyler Glasnow, Rays, 9.8K:

This one does not need a ton of explanation. Glasnow is good, Baltimore….Well, you know. Small sample size but in two starts Tyler went 14 innings with 11 K’s over two starts respectably against the Orioles last season. The O’s are currently sporting a 21% K rate and Glasnow was sporting an 11.36 K/9 rate in 2019 and in one start it looks like he in line to do the same.

Tyler Chatwood, Cubs, 8.0K:

Chatwood came out gangbusters in his first start striking out seven in six innings of work in his debut this season against the Brewers and only two walks which is good for him. I’m personally still a little worried about how much his price shot up and the low strikeout projection from Vegas but the wind is actually blowing in at Wrigley today and we’re really thin on top-level pitching this evening so I think we’ll be safe today.

GPP

Zack Greinke, Astros, 9.0K

Greinke put on a dud of an appearance in his first outing when almost everyone was using him in cash and think we can use that to our advantage today. His price took a dip but I don’t think it was enough of a drop to get people to ignore the 7 point performance next to his name. The Angels are still striking out at a surprising clip with their power bats being the biggest chunk of those strikeouts. The cherry on top, no Mike Trout while he is celebrating the birth of his child.

Gio Gonzales, White Sox, 5.7K:

He’s not going to be someone who gets you deep into games, five innings is typically all you get on a good day but he is right around eight K/9 and he only gave up 3 earned in his final 6 outings last season. He’s dirt cheap and going against an offensively deficient Royals team today.

Others to consider: Julio Urias, Michael Wacha

Main Slate Breakdown for 8.1 Stacks and Bats:

Just FYI my stacks are in no particular order in terms offavorites, I’m not sure if I made that clear previously. Oh, and Dodgers arealways implied unless I state otherwise.

Rockies:

I’m curious what the ownership will be on this one tonight, I don’t know if we’ll get more Red Sox/Yankees ownership leaving this one to slip through the cracks somehow. The implied total is right around 6.3 for both teams so I’m loading up on all Rockies and Padres tonight. Story, Arenado, and Dalh are all going to be heavily used tonight in my lineups. I usually lean away from BVP but the sample is large enough for Story and Arenado to feel confident if the stat lines. Kemp might be an under the radar guy tonight as well.

Cash: Story, Arenado, Dahl GPP: Blackmon, Kemp

Yankees:

Padres:

As I said, I’m all in on this game tonight. Tatis, Pham, Grisham, Machado, and Myers all profile extremely well against Freeland and we get the added benefit of park effect to go with it. BVP samples are small but if you subscribe to that line of thought it provides an additional layer where both Tatis and Pham have an OPS of over 1.000 and Machado is 3-11 with 1 walk and 2 doubles.

Cash: Machado, Tatis, Grisham, Pham

Yankees:

I feel like I put them on here every day but for good reason. a 5.7 implied run total with the wind blowing out har to left field all night and we could end up seeing a ton of warning track fly balls find their way over the wall tonight. I’d personally prefer to see it out towards the short porch but there is zero lack of pop up and down the Yankees lineup. It’s the normal cast and crew here. Not a lot in terms of the matchup to go off of here but if his sinker doesn’t stay down Godley gives up massive totals.

Cash: Judge, Stanton, Hicks GPP: Urshella, LeMahieu, Torres

FavoritePitcher:

Cash: Glasnow

GPP: Gonzalez

Favorite Stack: Padres

Favorite Chalk Player: Story

Favorite Low Owned Player: Kemp

Salary Saver: Kemp

Home Run Call: Kemp Yet Again

MLB DFS: Aces and Bases for 7.31

My name is Adam Strangis and I’m filling in for Timmy on this Friday evening. Last night was a hair frustrating for some in the Discord if you faded the Yankee game due to weather. It was one of those nights where the process was spot on, so that’s a positive. Aces and Bases for July 31 will take on the main MLB DFS slates on DraftKings and FanDuel

Best Value: Luis Castillo ($8,000 DK/$10,100 FD)

I’m happy I got to write Aces and Bases for Friday July 31 because this was an easy pick. So if you’re playing FD, Castillo is not a value at all and I would sub in Mike Minor as the Value. However, we simply can’t ignore Castillo on DK at this price. It’s an egregious price tag that is going to leave the Reds ace as absolute chalk. He destroyed this same Tigers offense last time out for 29.3 DK points and they have struck out the most against RHP since the start of 2018. You lock him in and get different elsewhere.

Honorable Mention – Mike Minor

Top Ace(s): Yu Darvish ($10,500 DK/ $9,100 FD)

Darvish is coming off a very mediocre start against Milwaukee but this is certainly a perfect get right spot. He draws the Pittsburgh Pirates, who sport roughly 4-5 minor league hitters per game. In the early going, Pittsburgh has seen their K rate skyrocket to 27.9% against RHP. This is a stark contrast to their 18.8% clip in 2019.

To make matters easier for Darvish, the Pirates are bottom two in average, OBP, slugging, OPS, wOBA and wRC+ in the first week. Other than that, the offense is really clicking (says the bitter Bucco fan). I expect Darvish to gt back to his second half of 2019 form when he whiffed 37.8% of hitters faced and gave up a .254 wOBA.

Honorable Mention – Mike Clevinger

Punt Play: Dallas Keuchel ($7,300 DK/ $7,000 FD)

In full transparency, I will not be dipping below Castillo on DK or Mike Minor on FD. The lower rung of pitching tonight is rife with grenades that I’ll be looking to avoid. The only one that maybe you can make a case for is Keuchel. He’s typically not someone we chase with a K rate under 22% since 2015 and the K is king in DFS.

What he does well is generate ground balls, with a GB % of at least 60% in two of the past three seasons. So far, the Royals have whiffed 33.3% vs LHP (42 plate appearances is a frightfully low sample) and have a .292 wOBA. They did have the 11th highest GB rate in 2019, so you might be able to catch Keuchel in a good run prevention spot even with a limited ceiling.

Honorable Mention – None

Top Fade – Blake Snell ($10,800 DK/ $9,500 FD)

Snell is the most expensive option on DK and is going to be capped to just 3-4 innings on Friday. His fastball velocity was down in his first start and he was inefficient in said start, throwing 46 pitches in two innings. Baltimore is quietly not that bad against LHP early on, with a top 10 wOBA of .325. That’s not likely to be accurate but there’s no reason to go after Snell when he’s capped.

Honorable Mention – Zac Gallen

MLB DFS: The Bases

There are a ton of different ways to build your offense on these big slates. Personally, I’m going to take a stand on a few offenses and call it a day. If you’re play MME style of GPPs, you can always get some exposure to more offenses, but for 3-Entry Max and Single Entry GPPs, I’m going to battle with a very limited player pool, as I really want to pick on a couple of starting pitchers and weaker bullpens.

We all know the importance of stacking when play MLB DFS GPPs, so here are my top stacks for the Aces and Bases forJuly 31st.

Top Stacks

  1. Chicago White Sox – They face off against a 22 year old LHP named Kris Bubic who has never pitched above A ball. He has shown some K ability at 28% last year in 101 innings, but he also allowed a 40% fly ball rate. Through 33 plate appearances, Chicago has mauled LHP with a .481 wOBA, .308 ISO, 1.161 OPS and a .385 average.
  2. New York Yankees – The Yanks hammered last night as chalk and they get another tasty matchup here against Ryan Weber. The righty got scorched for six runs in 3.2 IP against the Orioles. Boston’s bullpen has pitched the fourth-most innings so far and has given up the ninth-highest wOBA and 12th highest HR/9.

Value Stacks

  1. Tampa Bay Rays – The last time we saw Alex Cobb log a large sample size in 2018, he got tuned up for a 4.90 ERA and only struck out 15.4% of the hitters he faced. The Rays are still missing Austin Meadows, but boast plenty of cost effective options to attack a mediocre pitcher like Cobb.
  2. Cincinnati Reds – If there was one thing we learned about Spencer Turnbull, it’s he struggles against LHH. They got him for a .347 wOBA and near a .300 average in 2019. The Reds have six LHH in the lineup tonight.

Monkey Knife Fight

Using the information above, you can even make some money on Monkey Knife Fight! I think Mike Minor’s prop of just 5.5 K’s is something that we should be chasing for sure. Check out how to play with our quick overview here.

FanDuel MLB Daily Lineups: Slate Summary for July 30

Several of yesterday’s picks worked out well. It was nice to have solid arms to consider rostering for FanDuel MLB lineups, after some terrible options earlier in the week.

Max Scherzer was one of our top plays, and he piled up ten K’s in just 7.1 innings, adding another four points for a quality start. Gerrit Cole’s 42 FanDuel MLB points were solid, but considering we had to pay $11,700, Max was a better starting pitcher option.

The Mets were a decent stack, considering the value, but Isiah Kiner-Falefa ($2,200) was one of our top value plays and he had a single, walk, two runs, and two stolen bases for 24.4 FanDuel MLB points.

For Thursday, we’re again looking at a split slate option, but this grouping is less appealing. With only ten games on the MLB schedule today, two are slated for the ‘Early’ MLB DFS plays, and the others are available for the Main FanDuel MLB slate.

So, I’m much more inclined to load up on Main slate lineups and I’ll likely just play a couple GPP’s in the Early Only and All Day slates.

Alight, who do we like?

Top Pitching Plays

We were all over Shane Bieber ($10,700) and his awesome start to the season last week. The set-up against the Royals struggling bats against RHP’s on the road, lead to an inclination that Shane would have a big night.

He did, he piled up 14 K’s in just six innings. The problem with Bieber this Thursday night is that he’s facing a significantly better Twins offense in Minnesota.

Bieber is still one of the top arms on the mound for this slate, but he’s not one of the best fantasy baseball options.

NameFD SalaryK/9HR/9K%WHIPBABIPERAxFIPOpponentSlate
Brady Singer $        7,200   12.60           –   35.00%       1.00      0.273    3.60     2.55 DETMain
Shane Bieber $      10,700   11.15      1.27 31.00%       1.05      0.300    3.19     3.14 MINMain
Dinelson Lamet $        9,200   13.04      1.38 33.80%       1.26      0.318    3.92     3.32 SFGMain
Luis Castillo $      10,100   10.85      1.01 29.40%       1.14      0.267    3.34     3.40 CHCEarly

Luis Castillo ($10,100) is in a similar spot to Bieber, starting the season off with a fantastic match-up, fanning 11 Tigers batters, but now facing a more difficult foe in the Cubs. But, if you play any ‘Early Only’ FanDuel MLB GPP’s, Castillo is our favorite move.

For the Main Slate, though, I’m more inclined to use better value from Dinelson Lamet ($9,200) or even better value from from Brady Singer ($7,200).

Singer doesn’t have as good a track record, hardly any at this point, but both Singer and Lamet have a K-rate over 30%, and they’re each in great match-ups. Lamet should mow down the Giants, and Singer has the Tigers, who struggle against RHP’s.

I’m most likely to pick Singer for my GPP moves, and Lamet for my cash plays.

Hitting Stacks, Value, and Best Plays

For Thursday’s slate, I narrowed down the pitchers with the worst xFIP’s. Additionally, I am looking at, among those pitchers, who has the highest HR’s/9 innings? Well, we have six options, which is a long list for stacking.

NameK/9HR/9K%WHIPBABIPERAxFIPOpponentSlate
Martin Perez    7.24      1.22 18.00%       1.52      0.316    5.18     4.70 MetsMain
J.A. Happ    7.81      1.90 20.70%       1.30      0.280    4.91     4.78 OriolesMain
Ivan Nova    5.44      1.50 14.00%       1.45      0.317    4.73     4.95 RoyalsMain
Marco Gonzales    6.47      1.00 16.80%       1.31      0.295    4.04     5.13 AngelsMain
Erick Fedde    4.83      1.32 12.50%       1.45      0.280    4.39     5.19 Blue JaysEarly
John Means    7.03      1.34 19.00%       1.14      0.256    3.60     5.48 YankeesMain

Unfortunately, I only see one obvious stacking play for the ‘Early’ slate, the Blue Jays facing Erick Fedde at ‘home’ in Washington, DC.

Fedde won’t fan a lot of batters, but his 1.45 WHIP is fairly gross. He’s also giving up a lot of hits, and 1.32 HR/9 innings is appealing. The Blue Jays have already hit several long-balls against Nats pitching this week. They’re also very cheap on FanDuel MLB.

For the Main slate, I’m sticking with the Angels. Gonzales is only giving up 1 HR/9 since early in 2019, but his .295 BABIP is very appealing. Additionally, he’s a lefty facing right-handed batters like Mike Trout ($4,500) and Anthony Rendon ($4,000).

And the Halos have some cheap hot-hitting options like David Fletcher ($3,000) leading off for the Angels, likely, against tonight.

Speaking of value, over the last year Ivan Nova and J.A. Happ have been giving up nearly two home runs per nine innings. They are two of my favorite pitchers to stack against.

The Orioles and the Royals are two younger teams you typically don’t think of when looking for offensive stacks. But the O’s are facing Happ and the Royals are looking to stay hot against Nova tonight.

That gives us some cheap options like Renato Nunez ($2,600) hitting well lately in the three-spot for the O’s and, assuming he’s healthy, Jose Iglesias ($2,800) red-hot right now around the sixth spot of the order.

Whit Merrifield ($3,300) is one of the hottest MLB DFS players in fantasy baseball right now, and he should continue with his hitting streak on Thursday night.

Merrifield may look more expensive than Nunez and Iglesias, but considering his FanDuel MLB point return per $1K, his ROI is tremendous. Not quite as hot, but Jorge Soler ($3,700) is a similar, but more expensive play.

The Yankees, like the Angels, remain a great stack on Thursday night. And the great thing about Singer’s SP value tonight, along with the value plays and stacks we just mentioned, allows you to have Rendon, Trout, and maybe Giancarlo Stanton ($3,800) all in the same lineup.

July 30 Lineup Summary

With only two games in the slate, and competing options at SP, I don’t love the Early Only slate. I’m going to focus most of my money on the Main slate. I may throw in some GPP lineups, with Castillo as my SP, and the Blue Jays as my main stack.

The remaining eight games fortunately have a lot of awesome value, stacking, and top play options to make the Main FanDuel MLB slate more exciting.

Lamet is arguably the best pitching option, considering Bieber’s rough match-up, and Singer is a fantastic MLB DFS value against the Tigers right-handed hitters.

There are so many great stacking options, its almost overwhelming! We’re going to start off by plugging value plays from the Orioles and Royals lineup. From there, I’m focused on the Angels and Yankees as my top plays for the night.

If you need a pivot from any of those four teams, consider some Mets stack or value plays.
