Our second slate back from the All Star break, and it’s another six gamer. These are decent sized slates, and offer just enough places to get different without there being an overwhelming number of games. Let’s dive right in and find the best NHL DFS plays for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Juuse Saros – Nashville Predators: The Preds host Vegas tonight, and Saros has had some very solid numbers so far this season. Vegas has been struggling to score recently, making this a nice looking play.

Jack Campbell – Edmonton Oilers: With the Red Wings struggling to score of late, Campbell should be in line for a win. On top of that, Edmonton tends to be leaky defensively, so he should a decent amount of shots. If Skinner gets the call, he is the preferred play on the night, but Campbell can be used as well.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Casey Desmith – Pittsburgh Penguins: This play has a ton of risk in it, as Desmith and the Pens take on the Avalanche in Pittsburgh. Colorado is banged up, so there is a sneaky chance for a win here.

Others to Consider: Phillipp Grubauer (SEA)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Anaheim Ducks 1 – Trevor Zegras/Troy Terry/Adam Henrique/Cam Fowler: The Ducks head to Chicago to take on the Blackhawks tonight in what should be a very high event game. This line is in a great spot against a very porous Hawks defense, and should see plenty of chances.

Edmonton Oilers 1 – Connor McDavid/Dylan Holloway/Zach Hyman/Tyson Barrie: The Oilers are in a great spot against the Red Wings tonight, and this line is the one we want. While Holloway provides some value, you don’t have to play him if you can find a way to pair Draisaitl with this line. Edmonton likes to put McDavid and Draisaitl together as much as possible, so that is definitely in play tonight.

Tampa Bay Lightning 2 – Anthony Cirelli/Alex Killorn/Brandon Hagel: Line matching suggests that this line has a fantastic matchup tonight against the top line for the Sharks. They do carry a slight risk, being on a back-to-back, but they should see plenty of chances tonight.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Chicago Blackhawks 1 – Jason Dickinson/Andreas Athanasiou/Patrick Kane/Seth Jones: We talked above about how bad the Hawks are on defense, but the Ducks are pretty bad as well. That sets up this line for a bunch of chances. This line is a little more risky than the Ducks tonight, but they are worth a look in this game.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Evgeni Malkin/Jason Zucker/Bryan Rust: The second Pens line has been a force all year, and they have a good chance tonight against the Avalanche, who, as mentioned, are pretty banged up. Georgiev presents a fairly tough matchup on paper, and this line could be a little sneaky tonight.

Seattle Kraken 3 – Yanni Gourde/Oliver Bjorkstrand/Eeli Tolvanen: The Islanders usually throw the Pageau line up against the opposing top line, setting this line up for a date with the top six. That actually sets up very nicely for this line, who has been surprisingly efficient this season.

Welcome back from the All Star break! The NHL action ramps right back up tonight with a nice six game slate. Now that the All Star break is behind us, we start to focus on the last portion of the year, where things will really start to heat up as teams jockey for playoff positioning. It’s about to get fun! Let’s check out our DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: The Stars take on the Ducks on home ice tonight in what should be a fairly easy matchup for Otter.

Vitek Vanecek – New Jersey Devils: The Devils play host to the Vancouver Canucks, who just made a big trade, losing Bo Horvat to the Islanders. This is a good spot for Vanecek and the Devils tonight.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Carter Hart – Philadelphia Flyers: Hart has been shaky for the Flyers of late, so this one definitely comes with a bit of risk. However, this game should be a little bit lethargic, with some of the lower scoring on the night. If Hart can put in a solid performance, he has some pretty good upside potential.

Others to Consider: Marc-Andre Fleury (MIN)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Dallas Stars Power Play – Roope Hintz/Jamie Benn/Joe Pavelski/Jason Robertson/Miro Heiskanen: The Stars’ 4th ranked power play takes on the Ducks’ 30th ranked penalty kill tonight in what should be a lopsided matchup. The Ducks are 7th in times short handed per game, so there should be ample opportunity for this unit to do some damage tonight.

Minnesota Wild Power Play – Joel Eriksson Ek/Matt Boldy/Mats Zuccarello/Kirill Kaprizov/Calen Addison: This is a very similar setup as the Stars tonight, as the Wild are ranked 9th on the power play, and the Coyotes are ranked 26th on the penalty kill. Arizona is second in the league in times short handed per game, so this unit should see a bunch of chances as well.

Tampa Bay Lightning Power Play – Brayden Point/Brandon Hagel/Steven Stamkos/Nikita Kucherov/Victor Hedman: This matchup is surprisingly good for the Lightning tonight, making it tough to choose between the top three plays tonight. The Panthers take a lot of penalties, ranked first in the league in times short handed per game. This Lightning team has the third best power play, while the Panthers have the 25th ranked penalty kill.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

New York Rangers 2 – Vincent Trocheck/Chris Kreider/Barclay Goodrow: This line is in a good spot tonight against the first and third lines for the Flames. There is also a good goalie matchup here, as Markstrom has been pretty rough for the Flames all year long.

Florida Panthers 2 – Sam Bennett/Matthew Tkachuk/Carter Verhaeghe: There should be some scoring in the all-Florida game tonight, and this is the better line of the bunch for FLA.

New Jersey Devils 3 – Erik Haula/Dawson Mercer/Tomas Tatar: This third line should provide a good bit of value tonight, and they have a very good chance against the depth lines of Vancouver.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: CGY1, VAN1, NJD1, PHI3, NYI1

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: Erik Haula ($3200) – New Jersey Devils

Wing: Barclay Goodrow ($2800) – New York Rangers

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Erik Haula ($4700) – New Jersey Devils

Wing: Jimmy Vesey ($4000) – New York Rangers

Defense: Tyler Myers ($3900) – Vancouver Canucks

Cash Considerations – DraftKings and FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays for your cash lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. Cash lineups do not need to be stacked, and it is recommended to play no more than two players from a given team.

Center: Elias Pettersson – Vancouver Canucks

Goalie: Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars

Wow, it’s the end of January already?! Where has this month gone? The NHL is about to enter its All Star Break, so we end up getting a couple of small slates this week, until all teams are off starting on Thursday. Tonight, we get a three game slate, and of course we will attack it like we usually do! Let’s find the best NHL DFS plays for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Frederik Andersen – Carolina Hurricanes: The Canes host the Kings tonight, and the Kings have been struggling over their last five road games, putting up just 1.8 goals per game. Andersen’s numbers aren’t amazing, but they are about the best of the bunch on a small slate.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Joonas Korpisalo – Columbus Blue Jackets: This is a very high risk play against Washington tonight, but it’s a really good way to get different. The Caps should fire away on Korpi tonight, and he has a little bit of home ice advantage. He should be a solid upside play tonight, and could be in line for a save bonus on DraftKings.

Others to Consider: Anton Forsberg (OTT)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Ottawa Senators 1 – Tim Stutzle/Mathieu Joseph/Brady Tkachuk/Thomas Chabot: This top line has a fantastic matchup against the top line for the Canadiens tonight. They should see plenty of chances and should be able to light the lamp multiple times. You can also drop Joseph here and replace him with either Batherson or Debrincat for a power play look. Montreal is 4th in the league in times shorthanded per game, and 29th on the penalty kill.

Carolina Hurricanes 2 – Jesper Kotkaniemi/Martin Necas/Andrei Svechnikov/Brent Burns: The second line for the Canes tonight should see a very nice matchup against the third line for the Kings. The even strength matchup and the goalie matchup make this a fantastic play tonight, and could be a little different from the field. Consider rolling a power play look here as well.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Washington Capitals 1 – Dylan Strome/T.J. Oshie/Alexander Ovechkin/Erik Gustafsson: The Caps head to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets, so it may be surprising that they are in the high risk section. It turns out that CBJ is not giving up a ton defensively over their last five, and Korpisalo has been decent of late. Washington SHOULD be a good play tonight, but there is cause for concern in this one that they could underperform.

Columbus Blue Jackets 1 – Boone Jenner/Kirill Marchenko/Johnny Gaudreau: Based on everything above, the Blue Jackets are an interesting play tonight. This top line will see a top six matching scheme against the top two Washington lines, and should be up against Kuemper, who has been inconsistent. While the numbers aren’t stellar for this line, they should see some chances and could be an under-owned surprise tonight. It makes sense to get some CBJ if you are playing multiple lineups.

Ottawa Senators 3 – Shane Pinto/Derick Brassard/Drake Batherson: Another way to roll Ottawa tonight is this third line. They should have a very nice matchup and will likely be very low owned. They are reserved for deep GPPs only.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: CBJ2

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: Jesper Kotkaniemi ($3000) – Carolina Hurricanes

Wing: Derick Brassard ($2600) – Ottawa Senators

Defense: Marcus Bjork ($3200) – Columbus Blue Jackets – check to verify he gets top power play time! If not, whoever slots in there is the value

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Derick Brassard ($3800) – Ottawa Senators

Wing: Mathieu Joseph ($4200) – Ottawa Senators

Defense: Vladislav Gavrikov ($3700) – Columbus Blue Jackets

Welcome back to the Friday Night WinDaily NHL Between the Benches Article! The All-Star break is nearly upon us so make sure to get in on the NHL action before the break next week! Tonight, we have a larger-sized 8-game slate, with lots of interesting matchups to look at! Tonight’s 1/27 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

1/27 NHL Stack Report

1. Caroina Hurricanes 1 (Teravainen-Aho-Jarvis)

— The Hurricanes are far and away the best option on tonight’s slate as the second place team in the league is facing off against the fifth worst team in the league. The Sharks have been a mess this season. Their offense has been bad and their defense has been worse as they sit 23rd in the league in goals and 29th in the league in goals against. On top of that, the Canes are on a three game winning streak while the Sharks are on a three game losing skid. It should come as no surprise that the Canes are coming into tonight’s game with one of the highest implied totals of the slate at 3.9. Statistically, this game should not be close and Carolina’s top line is a main reason why this game seems so out of reach for the Sharks. Specifically, Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen as both have been lighting it up as of late with Aho registering five goals over his last four games and Teravainen posting a goal and three assists over that same time. It’s clear that not only have the Canes been playing well as of late but they are coming up to one of the best matchups they’ve had this season. I would highly recommend rostering some Canes players in your Daily Fantasy lineups tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Brady Skjei

2. Toronto Maple Leafs 1 (Bunting-Tavares-Marner)

— Unfortunately, early today the news broke to Toronto fans that their star centre Auston Matthews will be sidelined for at least three weeks with a sprained knee. Despite the set back, the Leafs must continue on for the time being without him and despite his strong impact he brings, the Leafs have had some excellent performances around him as well. The new look first line includes the teams’ top scorer in Mitch Marner alongside John Tavares and Michael Bunting. This is a very complete line that should be able to wreak havoc on the Senator’s defenses tonight. With Matthews out, I expect all three top liners to see significantly more ice time and winger Michael Bunting has seen a promotion to the Leafs top power play unit alongside his new linemates. The Leafs are in a prime position to succeed tonight against their division rivals, the Ottawa Senators and having watched games between the Sens and the Leafs during my whole life, one thing has been repeatedly true… these games have a lot of goals. It’s also important to note that the Leafs are coming into this game with an implied total of 3.9 and their goalie, Matt Murray is expected to make his first start against his old team tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Morgan Rielly

Honorable Mention(s): Florida Panthers 1 (Lundell-Barkov-Reinhart), Dallas Stars 1 (Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski)

1/27 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Igor Shesterkin
  2. Jake Oettinger
Honorable Mention(s): Frederick Andersen, Marcus Hellberg

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. Joonas Korpisalo
Honorable Mention(s): James Reimer, Anton Forsberg

1/27 NHL Wild Card Targets

Carter Verhaeghe
– Man, this guy is just scoring for fun as of late. His last six games have been amazing to watch. He’s got a six game point streak, two multipoint games and goals in five of his last six games. He’s been absolutely incredible in his role on Florida’s second line and second power play unit. He’s been beginning to see near 20 minutes of ice-time per game and has been rewarding the Panthers each and every game. The Panthers are coming into tonight’s game with an implied total of 3.6 against the Kings so a shot at Verhaeghe would be well worth it.
Honorable Mention(s): Filip Chytil, Michael Rasmussen, Jared McCann, William Nylander

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Sebastian Aho

Winger Mitchell Marner

Defenseman – Brandon Montour

Goalie Igor Shesterkin

Welcome back to another Hot Shot! Tonight, we get a fairly large 11 game slate that will feature one core piece and a lot of risky options. Let’s find the best NHL DFS plays for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Linus Ullmark – Boston Bruins: The B’s head to Montreal to take on the now Caufield-less Canadiens. No Caufield really puts a damper on an already rough season for the Habs. Tonight should be a fairly easy game for Ullmark.

Pavel Francouz – Colorado Avalanche: Even if Coozy doesn’t go tonight, Georgiev is in an equally good spot at home against the Capitals. There should be a good bit of save upside here, and the Caps have been struggling to score of late.

Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins: The Pens host the Panthers, who played last night in New York. Jarry had a very solid game in his first one back, and should see a bunch of shot volume. He has a good chance for a win here, given the back-to-back for Florida.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Karel Vejmelka – Arizona Coyotes: Veggie has a nice home matchup against the Ducks tonight, and his numbers are solid over his last five games. He should see some volume, and he runs the risk of regressing. However, this should be a solid play tonight.

Others to Consider: Andre Vasilevskiy (TBL), Vitek Vanecek (NJD)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Boston Bruins Power Play – Patrice Bergeron/Taylor Hall/Brad Marchand/David Pastrnak/Charlie McAvoy: What a spot for this top power play unit tonight. They carry some of the best upside on any given slate, and this matchup is one of the best you can ask for against a very bad Montreal penalty kill.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Arizona Coyotes 1 – Barett Hayton/Clayton Keller/Nick Schmaltz/Jakob Chychrun: The Coyotes host the Ducks tonight in what should be an…interesting…game. Both of these teams leak chances, and neither are exactly great at offense. There could be a lot of weird scoring in this game, but this top line has a solid matchup for most of the night. They are high risk simply because, well, Arizona.

Vancouver Canucks 3 – Elias Pettersson/llya Mikheyev/Andrei Kuzmenko: This line, whether it’s the top, second, or third, is in a very good spot tonight. Not only do they get to face Chicago, but there is a new bench boss in town, as Rick Tocchet takes over. This team will likely be fired up to play tonight, and this is a great looking line that should be very productive against a porous Chicago defense.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Evgeni Malkin/Jason Zucker/Rickard Rakell: The second line for the Pens is in a great spot against the Panthers tonight. They should see a majority of the top line, setting them up with some solid chances. The top line here is in a good spot as well, so consider rolling a power play look. That will get you access to both top lines in good spots.

Los Angeles Kings 3 – Blake Lizotte/Kevin Fiala/Jaret Anderson-Dolan: This third line has a solid matchup against the depth of the Flyers tonight. They should see plenty of chances and provide some solid value on a big slate.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: BUF1, STL2, COL1, PHI3, TBL1

Center: Barrett Hayton ($3700) – Arizona Coyotes

Wing: Ilya Mikheyev ($3400) – Vancouver Canucks

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Blake Lizotte ($3700) – Los Angeles Kings

Wing: Nicolas Aube-Kubel ($3800) – Washington Capitals

We are rolling right through January. It’s hard to believe that the All-Star break is right around the corner, and from there, we only have a couple of months or regular season hockey left. After the break, things should get very fun. For now, we have a four game slate to break down on this fine Monday. Let’s check out our DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: The Stars take on the Sabres on home ice tonight, and Oettinger is as solid as they come. There should be some upside to him tonight, so he should be worth it.

Ilya Samsonov – Toronto Maple Leafs: The Leafs host the Islanders tonight, and they should be able to handle them. The Isles are struggling a bit on offense of late, putting up just 2 goals per game over their last five. Samsonov has been a little inconsistent, so he runs a slight risk, but should be solid tonight.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Jacob Markstrom – Calgary Flames: It doesn’t look like Markstrom should be considered risky, but he has been so inconsistent recently that it has become hard to trust him. He is on home ice tonight, against a pretty poor offensive team, so he should pull the win. However, if the shot volume is low like it should be and he lets in 3, then he won’t be worth playing.

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Dallas Stars 1 – Tyler Seguin/Joe Pavelski/Jason Robertson/Miro Heiskanen: The Stars have a great matchup tonight against the Sabres and some poor goaltending. This line should see the top line for Buffalo, split with the third line, creating a nice upside for them. Add Jamie Benn to the mix for a power play look.

Calgary Flames 3 – Mikael Backlund/Blake Coleman/Andrew Mangiapane: We are taking a bit of a bold stand here with the third line for the Flames. But, they face the Blue Jackets tonight, who are not exactly known for their defense. The Flames at home tend to run this line against the opposing top six, setting up a great matchup for a very inexpensive line. These guys have a great chance to exceed value tonight at little to no ownership. CGY1 is also in play here.

Toronto Maple Leafs 1 – Auston Matthews/William Nylander/Michael Bunting/Morgan Rielly: The top Leafs line should see a mix of the 1 and 3 for the Islanders tonight, creating a nice looking matchup. The Isles have struggled, so this bodes well for the Leafs tonight.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

New York Rangers 2 – Vincent Trocheck/Jimmy Vesey/Barclay Goodrow: The Rangers’ second line should have a nice matchup tonight against the second line for the Panthers. This should be a good game between two pretty good clubs, and really could be a coin flip game. The top line here looks good too, especially with the new look that they skated with in the morning skate.

Florida Panthers 2 – Sam Bennett/Matthew Tkachuk/Carter Verhaeghe: The second line for the Panthers has just about the same matchup as its counterpart above, and should be in a good spot as well. This is arguably the best Florida line, and they should have some chances tonight.

Toronto Maple Leafs 3 – David Kampf/Pierre Engvall/Bobby McCann: The line matching schemes for the Leafs should put this line up against the second Islander line for a good portion of the night. If that holds true, then this line has a nice matchup and could be one of the beter value lines on the board tonight. Proceed with caution, as they don’t scream powerhouse offense.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: BUF2, NYR1

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: David Kampf ($2600) – Toronto Maple Leafs

Wing: Blake Coleman ($3700) – Calgary Flames

Defense: Esa Lindell ($3300) – Dallas Stars

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: David Kampf ($3800) – Toronto Maple Leafs

Wing: Jimmy Vesey ($4100) – New York Rangers

Defense: Esa Lindell ($4600) – Dallas Stars

Cash Considerations – DraftKings and FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays for your cash lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. Cash lineups do not need to be stacked, and it is recommended to play no more than two players from a given team.

Center: Auston Matthews – Toronto Maple Leafs

Goalie: Jacob Markstrom – Calgary Flames

This Tuesday slate brings us a nice little eight gamer that looks rather interesting. Goaltending on this slate looks bad, so it could be a high scoring one. We may have to be close to perfect to nail it. Let’s find the best NHL DFS plays for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Samuel Ersson – Philadelphia Flyers: As mentioned above, the goaltending is pretty ugly looking tonight, but Ersson has been a solid backstop to a bad Philly team. They host the Ducks tonight, and both teams are on the second leg of a back-to-back. The Ducks come limping in from an offense perspective, scoring just 1.2 goals per game over their last five road games. They are also scoring just 1.6 goals over their last five overall. It’s a good spot for Ersson.

Stuart Skinner – Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers host the Kraken tonight, and Seattle has been playing well of late. This looks like a good upside spot, and Edmonton should be able to handle the Kraken.

Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets: The Jets head to Montreal to face the Canadiens, who are scoring just 1.4 goals per game over their last five games. This is a good spot for Hellebuyck to get back to his old ways, as he has let us down a little recently.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Magnus Hellberg – Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings face off against the Coyotes tonight in Arizona. Arizona is not known to be a powerhouse, and they have struggled to score. This is a risky pick because Hellberg is not exactly the best goalie we have ever seen. He should see some shot volume, and they SHOULD get a win, but he could also give up 5.

Others to Consider: Filip Gustavsson (MIN), Kevin Lankinen (NSH)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Buffalo Sabres 1 – Tage Thompson/Jeff Skinner/Alex Tuch/Rasmus Dahlin: This is one of the best pay-up spots on the slate, as the Sabres head to Chicago to take on the defensively challenged Blackhawks. The Sabres have been struggling to score of late, but this is a spot we cannot ignore.

Edmonton Oilers Power Play – Connor McDavid/Leon Draisaitl/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins/Zach Hyman/Tyson Barrie: This is a fantastic spot for one of the deadliest power play units in the league. The Kraken are ranked next to last in the league on the penalty kill. This unit should have a ton of upside tonight, and they may go overlooked. MAJOR NOTE – YOU MUST WATCH THE NEWS THROUGH THE DAY – it is possible that Evander Kane plays tonight, and he may slot right back into the top power play.

Winnipeg Jets 2 – Mark Scheifele/Cole Perfetti/Blake Wheeler: This second line should see the top line for the Canadiens tonight. Montreal is pretty banged up right now, so this is a good matchup up and down the board. Ehlers didn’t skate this morning, so it’s possible that these lines get shuffled, so keep an eye on that through the day.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Philadelphia Flyers 3 – Scott Laughton/Kevin Hayes/Wade Allison: The Flyers are in a good spot offensively tonight, so it makes sense to have exposure to all of their lines. Two and three make the most sense, but if you are MME, then it also makes sense to grab some of the top line. The matchups dictate that this is the ‘best’ position of the bunch. They should have some good upside and lower ownership.

Detroit Red Wings 3 – Pius Suter/David Perron/Tyler Bertuzzi: This third line should see a date with Arizona’s third line, setting up a very, very nice matchup. This game doesn’t exactly scream DFS gold, but there is some good upside here.

Florida Panthers 2 – Sam Bennett/Matthew Tkachuk/Carter Verhaeghe: The second Florida line should see time against both the first and third Toronto line. The third line for Toronto is decent on defense, but the top line is not as good. They should see more time against that first line, setting up a nice looking sneaky play tonight.

Today’s Monday holiday brings us a split slate for the whole day. At 1pm Eastern, a slate of five games kicks off, while the main slate brings us a nice six game slate, starting at 6pm Eastern*. Main slate looks like a good one, so we will dive right in. Let’s check out our DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

*This article will be focused only on the main slate at 6pm (7pm on FanDuel). Check out Discord for notes for the early slate!

Goalies

Juuse Saros – Nashville Predators: The Predators host the Flames tonight in what should be a fairly tight game. Saros has some very good looking numbers this season and has some upside in this matchup.

Logan Thompson – Vegas Golden Knights: The Knights host Dallas tonight, and Dallas on the road is just not very good. This should be a good spot for the Knights’ goalie, and he should see a decent number of shots.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Elvis Merzlikins – Columbus Blue Jackets: The Jackets host the Rangers tonight, who have been allergic to scoring recently, at least at even strength. On top of that, they are on the second leg of a back-to-back, and had to travel last night. All of that sets up nicely for Elvis, and his numbers over his last five are surprisingly decent. It is still the Rangers, and we know they can blow up at any time, of course.

Others to Consider: Jake Oettinger (DAL)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Pittsburgh Penguins 1 – Sidney Crosby/Jake Guentzel/Bryan Rust/Ty Smith: The Penguins’ offense has gone rather stagnant lately, but this is a fantastic get-right spot for them. They will be hosting the Ducks tonight, and this line should see the depth lines for Anaheim. The Ducks are giving up a whopping 4 goals against per game over their last five, and as a team, over 40 scoring chances and 19 high danger chances. The Pens should be able to capitalize early and often. Consider a power play look also.

Ottawa Senators 1 – Tim Stutzle/Brady Tkachuk/Drake Batherson/Thomas Chabot: The Sens have a great matchup tonight, as they head to St. Louis to face the Blues. This line should see a lot of the top line for STL, setting up a very, very nice matchup.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Nashville Predators 1 – Juuso Parssinen/Matt Duchene/Filip Forsberg/Roman Josi: This is an “eye test” line, where the numbers don’t look amazing, but they are in a small sample. This is more of a gut feel, so this line comes with some risk. The Predators don’t really do much matching, so this line should see a little bit of everyone, and has a nice goalie matchup.

Columbus Blue Jackets 1 – Jack Roslovic/Patrik Laine/Johnny Gaudreau: This top line for the Jackets is in a decent spot tonight, and if Halak ends up regressing back to his normal self, then this becomes even better.

St. Louis Blues 2 – Brayden Schenn/Ivan Barbashev/Brandon Saad: This second line is in a good spot tonight against the depth for Ottawa, and they get a really good goalie matchup, making this line a very interesting value play.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: NSH2, VGK1, WSH1, OTT2

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: Juuso Parssinen ($3700) – Nashville Predators

Wing: Ivan Barbashev ($2700) – St. Louis Blues

Defense: Adam Boqvist ($2900) – Columbus Blue Jackets

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Juuso Parsinen ($4600) – Nashville Predators

Wing: Brandon Saad ($4200) – St. Louis Blues

Defense: Adam Boqvist ($4000) – Columbus Blue Jackets

Cash Considerations – DraftKings and FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays for your cash lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. Cash lineups do not need to be stacked, and it is recommended to play no more than two players from a given team.

Center: Sidney Crosby – Pittsburgh Penguins

Wing: Brady Tkachuk – Ottawa Senators

Defense: Roman Josi – Nashville Predators

Goalie: Casey DeSmith – Pittsburgh Penguins

Welcome back to the Friday Night WinDaily NHL Between the Benches Article! We’ve had a crazy week of games as we head closer to the all-star game! Tonight, we have a small-sized 3-game slate, but every game is packed with action! Tonight’s 1/13 NHL slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

1/13 NHL Stack Report

1. New Jersey Devils 2 (Tatar-Hughes-Haula)

— The Devils have surprised many people this season, including me. From their red-hot start to the season and now their continued success down the stretch, they have rebuilt themselves into a competitive playoff team, and tonight, they’re up against the third-last-placed team in the league (or the Bronze Medal in the Bedard Bowl) in the Anaheim Ducks. This is a pretty big mismatch; the odds are at -320 in favour of the Devils, the Devils implied total is over four goals, and the Ducks are at a measly 2.5 implied goals. Statistically, this shouldn’t even be close. The Ducks rank 2nd last in goals per game and dead last in power play %, shooting %, goals allowed per game and SOG allowed per game. On top of that, they take nearly 12 penalty minutes a game and have the third-worst penalty-kill rate in the league at 71%. With the Devils at 3.44 goals and 34.6 shots a game on average I don’t see a way that Anaheim doesn’t get completely blown out here. The Devils are also very defensively disciplined, only allowing 27.3 shots per game and holding a stellar goals-against average of 2.63. This line, in particular, does some real damage. Headed by the Devils’ team leader in points, Jack Hughes, who has 10 points over his last six games and combined this line has put together 20 points over their last six. All three forwards on the second line see power play time as well, with Hughes and Tatar on the top unit and Haula on the second unit. I’ve really been impressed with the Devils this season, and I think this game should not be a challenge for them.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Dougie Hamilton (Damon Severson works as a salary saver)

2. Edmonton Oilers 2 (Hyman-Draisaitl-McLeod)

— Usually, my recommended play from the Oilers is to play McDavid and anyone around him, but with the most recent line shuffle, I am actually favouring the second line a little more. (Although, I would still recommend playing McDavid if you want him in your line with his value wingers) This line has been very consistent over the past few games. Hyman and Draisaitl alone have 11 points over their last five games. They both also saw over 20 minutes of ice time on average over those five games, including time on the top power-play unit; McLeod also sees power-play time on the Oilers’ second unit. The Sharks haven’t been that great defensively this season as they sit near the bottom of the league in goals against this season with a goals-against average of 3.65, putting them at 27th in the league. It should come as no surprise that the Oilers are coming into this matchup with an implied total of 3.7 goals, and I would expect the second line to play a part in some of those goals tonight.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Darnell Nurse

Honorable Mention(s): San Jose Sharks 1 (Meier-Hertl-Labanc), Edmonton Oilers 1 (Holloway-McDavid-Yamamoto)

1/13 NHL Goalie Tracker

Best (Goalies to Roster)

  1. Vitek Vanecek
  2. Casey DeSmith
    Honorable Mention(s): James Reimer

Worst (Goalies to Target)

1. John Gibson
Honorable Mention(s): David Rittich

1/13 NHL Wild Card Targets

Dawson Mercer
– Despite the fact that he is on the third line and not on the Devils’ power play, Mercer has been racking up a respectable amount of points as of late. He is currently tied for fifth on the Devils in points, including four points over his last two games (2 goals and 1 assist last game). He is also steadily seeing an increase in ice time, and I expect that he will see over 16 minutes in this game. Coupled with the fact that the Ducks have shockingly bad defensive stats (as mentioned earlier) and hold a big odds disadvantage against the Devils, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Mercer ends up on the score sheet tonight.
Honorable Mention(s): Jason Zucker, Ty Smith, Logan Couture

Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)

Center Jack Hughes

Winger Zach Hyman

Defenseman – Darnell Nurse

Goalie Vitek Vanecek

We are back with another Hot Shot on a Tuesday! We have a nice 10 game slate tonight that offers us plenty of places to go. Let’s find the best NHL DFS plays for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

James Reimer – San Jose Sharks: Reimer has been wildly inconsistent this year, but the matchup here against the Coyotes is pretty solid. The Coyotes have been struggling to score, so this feels like a safe play tonight.

Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets: Hellebuyck continues to have very solid numbers on the year, and tonight the Jets head to Detroit to take on the Red Wings. This makes for a very solid matchup for Hellebuyck and the Jets.

Ilya Sorokin – New York Islanders: We have begun to learn that Dallas is a Jekyll and Hyde team when it comes to home/away stats. On the road, they struggle to score and are not nearly as much of a threat than when they are on home ice. This play has a good bit of upside, and could end up being a win for Sorokin.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Vitek Vanecek – New Jersey Devils: The Devils take on the Canes tonight, and while the Canes’ top line is in a great spot, this is a very nice spot for upside. The Hurricanes shoot a ton, so the save tally should add up quickly.

Others to Consider: Filip Gustavsson (MIN), Pyotr Kochetkov (CAR), Andrei Vasilevskiy (TBL)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

San Jose Sharks Power Play – Tomas Hertl/Logan Couture/Timo Meier/Alexander Barabanov/Erik Karlsson: The Sharks’ power play unit is not exactly best-in-class, but they should see their opportunities tonight against the most penalized team in the NHL. Pieces from the top line are very much in play tonight, as Arizona doesn’t really match much, so prioritize Hertl/Meier here.

Buffalo Sabres Power Play – Tage Thompson/Jeff Skinner/Alex Tuch/Dylan Cozens/Rasmus Dahlin: Last night, the Sabres were shut out by the *checks notes* PHILADELPHIA FLYERS?! Yes, that is correct. This unit was held off the board in a very surprising game. However, tonight should be very different, especially if Grubauer goes for Seattle. The Kraken were just in Montreal, so there is a good chance he does. No way the Sabres get shut out twice. Oh yeah, the Kraken PK is next to last in the league.

Carolina Hurricanes 1 – Sebastian Aho/Seth Jarvis/Max Pacioretty/Brent Burns: Now that Pacioretty has returned to the lineup, the Canes changed up their matching scheme a bit. This top line should see the third line for the Devils for most of the night, setting them up with a very nice matchup.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

St. Louis Blues 2 – Brayden Schenn/Brandon Saad/Ivan Barbashev: Since O’Reilly went out, this line has really been picking up the slack. This play is more of a hot streak play, and since Markstrom has not been very good this year, they make for some very good value. Saad has been absolutely on fire over the last few games.

Pittsburgh Penguins 3 – Jeff Carter/Kasperi Kapanen/Danton Heinen: This is a bold value call, but this line should see a lot of the top Vancouver line tonight. That sets this line up for a ton of chances, with a nice ceiling potential.

Calgary Flames 1 – Elias Lindholm/Tyler Toffoli/Dillon Dube/Rasmus Andersson: The Flames’ top line is in a good spot against the Blues tonight and should see plenty of chances. St. Louis has been pretty leaky defensively, so this is a nice upside spot.

NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: WPG1, COLPP, TBL1, VAN1

Value Options – DraftKings

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on DraftKings. Be sure to stack!

Center: Jeff Carter ($3900) – Pittsburgh Penguins

Wing: Kevin Labanc ($3600) – San Jose Sharks

Value Options – FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays to help save you some salary in your lineups on FanDuel. Be sure to stack!

Center: Jeff Carter ($4700) – Pittsburgh Penguins

Wing: Brandon Saad ($4300) – St. Louis Blues

Defense: Samuel Girard ($4000) – Colorado Avalanche

Cash Considerations – DraftKings and FanDuel

Consider these NHL DFS plays for your cash lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. Cash lineups do not need to be stacked, and it is recommended to play no more than two players from a given team.
