Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Early lock for a big Sunday slate!

We have six games on the slate for tonight and the slate locks one hour earlier than usual tonight so make sure you get your lineups in on time!

We have a pair of 6 pm (est) starts, the first being San Jose wrapping up their third, and final, five-game road trip of the season in Columbus who is on the second night of a back-to-back. Tampa Bay is Philly for what appears to be a blowout waiting to happen with how poor the Flyers have been of late. At 7:30 both the Islanders and Blackhawks play their second game in two nights with two poor playing goaltenders expected to start.

Toronto plays their second game in as many nights on the road in Winnipeg, which I expect to be joined by the next game as the highest scoring on the slate. Edmonton hosts the Kings who are making their trek through Western Canada at the moment. Last but certainly not least, what may be the game of the night, Calgary is in Vegas to take on the suddenly red hot offense of the Golden Knights.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Mikko Koskinen ( vs LA)

Koskinen is not someone I will typically write or play, but on this slate, he projects as the highest-scoring goalie with the best win probability. Over his last five starts, Koskinen is averaging nearly 30 saves per game while scoring 16.5 DKFP per game. That may not seem like a high score, but that is value for his price on Sunday. If you are playing cash games on this slate, lock in Koskinen with McDavid and Draisaitl and look for value elsewhere.

Other Options: Adin Hill/James Reimer ( @ CBJ)

GPP Goalie:

Elvis Merzlikins ( vs SJ)

Mezlikins is inexpensive on both sites ($7.7K) and is in a matchup with a road-weary Sharks team. While he is coming off a bad start against Nashville, before that Merzlikins had two back-to-back solid outings. Merzlikins had a 36 save shutout at home against Winnipeg and then stopped 39 shots in a win over Vancouver. San Jose averages over 28 shots on goal per game while Columbus allows 34.5 per game (30th in the NHL). The Sharks have only scored more than two goals once in their last four and average just 2.58 per game this season (26th).

Other Options: Jacob Markstrom ( @ VGK), Connor Hellebuyck ( vs Tor), Kevin Lankinen (vs NYI)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Outside of the obvious Edmonton plays, there are plenty of other options on this slate to build around. If you are going to stack Edmonton though, obviously it starts with the dynamic duo of Batman and Ro… oh no not them, it starts with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. One or both of those guys is where ever Oilers stack start, but outside of those two players, there is not much else I love up front tonight. Kris Russell on the other hand has been a solid fantasy point producer this season without really putting up points. Russell is super cheap on both sites and is a lock for me in any Edmonton stacks on Sunday. In his last five games, Russell has one assist but is averaging 12 DKFP per game because of his 24 blocked shots in that same span.

There’s a storm heading into Motown

For me, the number one team I want to build around on Sunday is the Tampa Lightning. Tampa has scored three goals or more in nine of their last ten games and has hit four or more goals in four of those games. On the flip side Philadelphia is has allowed four goals or more in seven of their last ten and has allowed 15 goals in their last three.

Tampa’s top line is my favorite stack followed by their number power-play unit. Steven Stamkos is expensive on both sites, but his linemates are not. Ondrej Palat is under $5K on DK and under $6K on FD and Alex Barre-Boulet is near min price on both sites. ABB has not put up points yet, but he is getting ice time with two of the best players on a team that I expect 4-5 goals from. Victor Hedman can be used as an expensive defenseman, or you can use Zach Bogosian as a cheap dman as well. Bogosian, similar to Russell, does not put up real points, but he racks up fantasy points with shots on goal and blocked shots.

Lastly, you can use both Alex Killorn and Anthony Cirelli to round out a PP1 stack and use them either Stamkos, Palat, or Hedman for an L1/L2 mix stack for the power-play.

Looking to the Windy City boys for some value

Chicago is one of my favorite teams to build around tonight, but also one of the best teams for value as well. The Blackhawks’ top line of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Brandon Hagel is only $15K on DraftKings and $16.8K on FanDuel. Varlamov is off to a horrendous start this season with a 3.46 GAA and an abysmal .881 save %. The veteran netminder has only allowed less than three goals once in five appearances this season (that was in a relief appearance). On defense, Seth Jones is the obvious play on defense for the Hawks, he is the top FPPG player on the slate for defensemen. Outside of Jones, both Jake McCabe and Erik Gustafsson have been getting plenty of ice time and putting up plenty of blocked shots and shot on goal points. McCabe and Gustafsson are also both min price on DK and near min price on FD.

You can use pieces of line one with Gustafsson on the top PP unit for Chicago. Joining Toews and Kane on that unit are Dylan Strome and Kirby Dach putting them both in play. Both Seth Jones and Hagel skate on the second power-play unit and you can add Alex DeBrincat for a three-man PP2 stack.

In other stacking news:

Vegas has put the band back together now that they are all healthy, so their top unit of Pacioretty/Stephenson/Stone is one of my favorite stacks on this slate. Both Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore are great plays on defense, but my favorite is Nicholas Hague. Hague is not going to put up the offensive numbers of Shea and Petro, but he racks up blocked shots and shots on goal and is very affordable. Both Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault have been finding the back of the net often for the Golden Knights of late and make for a nice L2 stack as well.

Philadephia 1 is another mid-priced stack that could prove fruitful on Sunday. Tampa is on a back-to-back to I expect Brian Elliott to get the start for them which means that Philly is also in play today.

As it is whenever they are on the slate, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in play. Of course, their top two lines are where everyone goes, and with reason. But to be different on this slate, give a look to Jason Spezza. The veteran winger is on fire with four goals in his last five games as well as an assist. Equally as hot is Wayne Simmonds who is Spezza’s winger on the Leafs’ fourth line. Simmonds has three goals and two assists in his last five as well.

With San Jose in getaway mode, I like taking a chance in tournaments with some cheap Columbus pieces. The Blue Jackets’ third line of Robinson/Kuraly/Texier is all min priced on DK and are all averaging over 15 minutes per game in their last five. Columbus themselves are on a back-to-back as well so typically we see third and fourth lines get some extra minutes in games like this.

If Koskinen is the cash game goalie, that means he should be popular so of course, I like some Kings’ stacks on this slate. Line one is the popular way to go, but line two has been the better line of late. Viktor Arvidsson has six points in his last five and 18 shots on goal. Alex Iafallo has five goals in that same span and 19 SOG. Lastly, Phillip Danault centers this line and has a couple of assists in his last five as well.

Friday 12/3 NHL Breakdown

Happy Friday and happy December! We have a very nice little 5 game slate tonight that starts at our normal 7pm Eastern time. This one looks pretty straightforward, so let’s get right into it.

Goalies

Connor Hellebuyck – Winnipeg Jets: The Jets and Hellebuyck get a home matchup with the Devils, who in their last five road games, have only been scoring 2.6 goals per game. Hellebuyck is much better at home, as are the Jets in general, giving up under 2 goals per game in their last five home games. The Devils can be a little feisty, but tonight, the Jets should be able to handle them.

Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers: The Rangers have a very nice matchup at home against the Sharks tonight, and while the Sharks have been playing well, Igor has been a solid goalie for the Rangers. At home, he has posted a 1.8 GAA over his last five home games.

Bonus GPP Goalie Pick – John Gibson – Anaheim Ducks: John Gibson at home is always a solid play, especially because they never change his price. He usually comes in on the lower end of salary, and as long as that continues to happen, he should be a goalie to play in GPP. The Flames come into town tonight after a win against LA last night, and are on the back end of a traveling back-to-back. Gibson should see shot volume, and has a real shot for a win tonight.

Lines to Build Around

These lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Edmonton Oilers Power Play – Connor McDavid/Leon Draisaitl/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins/Zach Hyman/Tyson Barrie: It’s no secret that most nights that Edmonton is on a slate, you play them. Tonight is that and then some, as the Oilers take on the Kraken in Seattle. This unit gets to face a Kraken team that is giving up almost four goals per game on the season. Even at home, the Kraken have given up 3.6 goals against over their last five home games. This unit is high powered, and they should be dominant tonight. McDavid/Draisaitl/Barrie are the core pieces, and you can use RNH and Hyman for value if needed.

Winnipeg Jets 1 – Mark Scheifele/Kyle Connor/Blake Wheeler/Neal Pionk: The Jets have been in a little bit of a slump recently, but they have a chance to right the ship tonight as the New Jersey Devils come to town. They look to be facing Jonathan Bernier in net tonight, and while he has not been playing poorly, he has not been great either. The Jets are a much better home team than they are on the road, so tonight is a good spot for them.

Vegas Golden Knights 2 – Nicolas Roy/Jonathan Marchessault/Reilly Smith/Alex Pietrangelo: The Knights have a nice little matchup tonight, and while the top line is in a good spot, this second line looks to be in a better spot. The second line should see mostly the Arizona top line tonight, which is a very nice plus matchup. Most people will flock to Edmonton and the Vegas top line, and this line should help get some leverage in tournaments.

High Risk Lines

These are plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Arizona Coyotes 2 – Barrett Hayton/Christian Fischer/Lawson Crouse/Shayne Gostisbehere: The Coyotes are an interesting GPP play tonight against the Golden Knights. They have been playing a little better of late, but have gotten fantastic goaltending. The Knights have been giving up 4 goals against over their last five road games, and Lehner has been less than average, with a 3.99 GAA over his last five games. Arizona is a very sneaky play tonight, and with all of the eyes on Vegas and Edmonton, this could be the leverage you need. The even strength matchup tonight looks very good for this second line, as they get the Vegas top line.

New York Rangers 1 – Mika Zibanejad/Chris Kreider/Kaapo Kakko/Adam Fox: The addition of Kakko to this line makes it a little more appealing, but the focus on this line is Zibanejad/Fox. Another really good way to stack the Rangers is to add Artemi Panarin in, creating a three-man stack with Zibanejad/Panarin/Fox. They are high risk because San Jose has been pretty good on the road this season. The Rangers are scoring 3.25 goals per game on home ice this season, making them a solid play.

This article focuses on 12/2 NHL Picks for both DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbooks and FanDuel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We analyze tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so that we can gain an edge on the field at large. Full rankings for each position for both sites are available below.

Thursday 12/2 NHL Slate and DFS Gameplan

Welcome back to the Hot Shot for December as we prepare for a ten-game Thursday slate!

With these larger slates, I highly advise passing on full three-man lines but instead going with pairs of two-man stacks as the goal is to attempt to capture the top scorers on the night across multiple games.

Full DraftKings and FanDuel Rankings can be found below as well as cash game considerations for each site.

Three Favorite Lines

Colorado One “Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog”DraftKings or FanDuel

Reunited, this line is ready to make up for all of the lost time by dominating their foreign opposition. The Avalanche have been involved in some epic track meets lately with results looking like baseball scores without Nathan Mac around. They will be on the second night of a back-to-back but shipped it into Toronto after Darcy Kuemper was scratched last night 8-3 so hopefully, the Avs didn’t push too hard in the third period “it doesn’t look like they did per the scoreline”. Getting the Canadiens tonight should provide the perfect opportunity for a Colorado bounce back. There is very little data on these gentlemen collectively so far this season but for those who don’t already know, if data from prior seasons remains applicable, they’re very, very good at their jobs.

Florida One “Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Bennett, Owen Tippett/Possibly Anthony Duclair GTD so watch that” – DraftKings or FanDuel

It seems like every time I write, Florida is in a great spot, as in tonight where they come in as slate high -320 favorites against the Sabres. Those losers have dropped six of their last seven including an embarrassing 7-4 home loss to the Kraken last time out. The sample size on this line doesn’t go back too far and prior data includes Anthony Duclair as opposed to Owen Tippett but these are the Panthers I’d target first, with the second line also a viable option.

Calgary One “Matthew Tkachuk, Johnny Gaudreau, Elias Lindholm” – DraftKings or FanDuel

This line is my favorite tournament line of the night. They have put up some mind-blowing statistics so far this season including a full 99 SATF “shot attempts for including all shots on goals, missed shots, blocked shots” at 299 then the line with the second most, Boston’s Perfection Line at 200. Only Washington’s top line has more full-line goals. Calgary comes in a -150 favorite here in a late-game, in which they should go overlooked given the size of the slate as well as the presence of many big favorites early on. The Flames are hot “no pun intended”, winning four of their last five while L.A. is locked in a heavy skid dropping six of their last seven with the only win against the moribund Ottawa Senators.

Another big Tuesday slate!

After a small Tuesday slate last week, we are back with a big eight-game slate this week. The game of the night might be Washington at Florida. This game should be one of the highest-scoring ones on the slate and definitely a game we will want to target. Another game that should be high on the list of targets for Tuesday will be Tampa Bay and St. Louis. We also get Minnesota at home against Arizona on the second night of a back-to-back. There is also a team coming to the east from California that I expect will go completely overlooked on this slate but is my favorite team on this slate.

Brad Marchand was suspended for three games on Monday, so it will be interesting to see who gets his spot on the top line and the top PP unit. Make sure to check into discord during the day Tuesday to see any updates we have.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Cam Talbot ( vs Arizona)

Like I mentioned in the open, Minnesota gets Arizona on the second night of a back-to-back. Arizona did shut out the Jets on Monday (insert pained emoji face) but I don’t see them having similar success two nights in a row. Talbot has been rolling along with three straight dominant performances lately, and four in five games. Talbot projects as the safest play on the slate with the highest win probability.

Other Options: Linus Ullmark (vs Detroit)

GPP Goalie:

John Gibson ( @ Los Angeles)

Checks slate, sees Anaheim against one of the lowest-scoring offenses in the league, locks in Anaheim goalie as my number one GPP goalie. Whether it’s Gibson or Stolarz, I will be locking the Ducks netminder in as my top GPP goalie on Tuesday. Los Angeles is bad offensively, and even though they have shown flashes of goal-scoring ability, they don’t scare me. LA ranks 4th in SOG/G with 34.9, but they rank 25th in Goals/G with just 2.6 which leaves them 29th in Shooting % with a 7.45 (Only the Islanders, Canucks, and Coyotes are worse). Whoever ends up in net for the Ducks should be able to rack up the points on Tuesday.

Other Options: Scott Wedgewood ( @ Min) – Super cheap and could be in for a huge workload, Elvis Merzlikins ( @ Nsh), Andrei Vasilevskiy ( @ St. Louis), James Reimer ( @ NJ)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Chum in the waters off the East Coast

I don’t know why, but people tend to skip playing the Sharks on a nightly basis, and I for one am tired of it. This team has not been one of the top teams offensively, I get it, but they do have the ability to put up goals, and on most nights they do. New Jersey is a middle-of-the-pack team defensively (they literally rank 16th in goals against and shots against) so they aren’t a brick wall on defense we should worry about. They also have the 21st ranked penalty kill, so San Jose power-play stacks are definitely an option on Tuesday as well.

For me, I will look to the Sharks’ first line, more specifically Logan Couture and Timo Meier as the place to start any Sharks stacks. These two are the Sharks’ best forwards and have been all season. Meier is playing at over a point per game pace in the club’s last ten games (5G 6A) and Couture is no slouch adding three goals and five assists himself. Recently, Jonathan Dahlen has returned to the Sharks lineup and skated with the top line last game. If he stays there for this game he will be one of the best value pieces on the late.

If you are looking for a value stack to pair with one of the big teams, then line two for San Jose is a good place to go. Tomas Hertl is the best option, also the most expensive, on that line but his wings will be practically unowned as well. Both Rudolfs Balcers and Alexander Barabanov are under $3K (on DK) and can put up points. This line is much riskier than the top line, but they have scoring ability and are a good GPP stack. I mentioned the PP earlier, Nick Bonino joins the top line on the top unit and he may be the best value from the Sharks because of this. Bonino is a third-line center who sees nearly 16 minutes of ice time per game and has two goals and nine shots in his last 5 games.

As for defense, Brent Burns rounds of the top PP unit, but he is not the only option on the point from this team. Mario Ferraro is Burns’ partner on the top defensive pairing and has been a shot-blocking machine lately. Ferraro averages 3.4 blocked shots per game in his last 5, which means he averages enough for the bonus on DK, can’t beat that. Both Burns and Ferraro are solid plays, as is Erik Karlsson. The only problem is we don’t get a cheap dman to play with the Sharks on Tuesday, so we will have to find other places for value.

Best of the top lines:

There are a lot of options to build around on Tuesday, so I will briefly list my favorite top lines on this slate, with short reasoning why:

  • Boston Bruins 1 (vs Detroit): Like I talked about in the open, Marchand is suspended for this game, so someone else, someone much cheaper, will be taking his spot with Pasta and Bergeron. – Defensive value play: Brandon Carlo
  • Florida Panthers 1 (vs Washington): Washington has been good on defense this year, but Florida is too good offensively (2nd in goals, 3rd in SOG). I love this game stack tonight. – Defensive value play: Radko Gudas
  • Washington Capitals 1 ( @ Florida): See above. As a side note for those betting, take the over and the Panthers in this game. These teams have hit the ober 7 straight games, and the favorites in 37-16 in the last 53 matchups. – Defensive value play: Nick Jensen/Dmitry Orlov
  • Nashville Predators PP1: Nashville’s PP ranks 6th in the league and this unit has been on fire lately. Ryan Johansen may be the hottest player (outside of Matt Duchene) and he is incredibly under priced. – Defensive value play: Alexander Carrier (insert fire emoji!)

Value bin!

Before I get to the line stacks for value, just note that Patric Hornqvist plays on the top PP unit for the Panthers but is on line four so he will be completely overlooked and is some good value tonight.

NJ1: They’re one of the best lines in hockey right now but are not priced like it.

NSH2: I already mentioned Johansen, but this line overall is good value against Columbus tonight

CBJ2 and 3: We saw Columbus try out different line combos in practice Monday, and if these hold true then they are two solid cheap stacks in a matchup they could put up 3-4 goals.

STL2: I have been rolling this line out game after game for the Blues and they have yet to disappoint.

ANH2: Another line that has been on an absolute tear of late. Sonny Milano gets no respect and no ownership. Possible late night hammer here.

*** Make sure to check into Discord later in the day on Monday for any line changes and updates for this slate! ***

Happy Monday everyone! After a long weekend full of NFL, turkey, and shopping let’s get back some of that money you laid out.

Tonight we have an appetizing four-game slate featuring a matchup of two of the league’s worst (Seattle @ Buffalo) and two of the league’s hottest teams (Pittsburgh @ Calgary). It’s an all Canada affair when Vancouver (2nd night of a back-to-back) travels to Montreal. And last, Arizona goes from the desert’s of the Southwest to the frozen lands of Winnipeg

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Tristan Jarry ( @ Calgary)

Right now there is no goalie hotter in the NHL than Tristan Jarry. Dating back to November 18th (5 starts), Jarry has allowed just two goals while earning himself three shutouts. Jarry is facing an average of 28.6 SOG per game and making an average of 28.2 saves per game during this stretch as well. During his five-game unbeaten streak, Jarry went into Toronto and shut them out and won at Winnipeg allowing just one goal. In his last game, Jarry shut out the rival New York Islanders. I am finally confident that Jarry is a top-end goalie in this league. Hopefully, he doesn’t decide tonight is the night to resort back to a pumpkin.

Seattle @ Buffalo

I like both goaltenders in this game, well only if Dustin Tokarski starts for Buffalo. At the same time, both offenses are in play. Tokarski has had a couple of solid starts back-to-back for the Sabres and should have another against Seattle who averages just 2.76 goals per game on the season. As for Philipp Grubauer, he could also have a great night for the Kraken in Buffalo. Before the 3-0 loss to Tampa on Friday, Grubauer has two great starts in a row. Grubauer won both games and stopped 35 and 37 shots in those starts. On a small slate, it is hard to be different and while I think both goalies in this game could be popular, it might just be the right way to go and find ways to be different with your skaters since the options will be more vast there.

Other Options: Jacob Markstrom ( vs Pitt), Jake Allen ( vs Van)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Ready to take flight:

Winnipeg has, on paper, the easiest matchup on this slate with Arizona coming into town. While they have been better of late, Winnipeg has one of the best top 6 in the league. We will need to wait and see what their lines look like after morning skate, but going off of the projected lines from Dailyfaceoff.com, I love both of their top two lines tonight. Kyle Connor projects as the top player on this slate and comes into tonight with 6 goals in his last 10 and is averaging nearly 5 shots on goal per game (4.9) during this stretch. Hopefully, he stays on the top line with Pierre-Luc Dubois who himself has seven points in the team’s last ten games while averaging 3.4 SOG per game. Evgeny Svechnikov is min price on DK and near min on FD and has three assists and 16 SOG in his last ten. His numbers aren’t as great as the other two, but he is someone whose salary makes it easier to fit other top players in your builds while getting time on a team’s top line. Line one is my preferred choice from the Jets, you can always run a line two stack, or go with a defenseman. Winnipeg has three min-priced (DK) dmen in Stanley/Dillon/Demelo who all block shots and occasionally get on the scoreboard, but Josh Morrissey might be my favorite play on the point for Winnipeg. He is way too cheap on DK($3.6K) and plays over 21 minutes per game. Morrissey also sees time on the Jets’ second PP unit with Dubois.

A new regime for Les Habitants!

Montreal cleaned out their top management on Sunday and will enter a new era starting Monday night. Even though this doesn’t directly affect the players we tend to see teams come out strong in their first game after a mid-season shakeup in the organization. Players know that the new regime could be looking to make some trades and move players so they want to show their worth and at home against a team coming off a loss last night is a spot to do it. Montreal put up 6 on Pittsburgh on Saturday, and could easily do the same on Monday night.

There is no place better to start on this team than with their top line of Tyler Toffoli, Christian Dvorak, and Josh Anderson. All three have been on fire in the Canadiens last five games totaling seven goals and eight assists combined. They are also a fairly inexpensive line on both sites. Toffoli has the highest salary of all three ($4.7/$5.3) and both Anderson and Dvorak come in under $4.5K on both FD and DK. Both Artturi Lehkonen and Cole Caufield have been playing well on the Habs’ third line, with Lehkonen being the better of the two. Lehkonen has three goals in his last five and is averaging over three shots on goal per game.

As for the defense, both Ben Chiarot and Sami Niku see time on the second PP unit with Dvorak, Anderson, and Caufield so they are in play. Niku is another min-priced dman on this slate who is in play and Chiarot himself is not expensive either. Jeff Petry plays on the top PP unit, but his production has not matched his salary lately but he can have a breakout game at any time, so if you are feeling lucky and want to take the risk, Petry is a good play.

Where else to look?

Some of the other options on this small slate that we can go tonight include in the late game, Pittsburgh at Calgary. I do think both goalies are in good spots, but I also think neither get a shutout.

If Bryan Rust is still out for Pittsburgh, then Evan Rodrigues presents some great value playing on the top line with Crosby and Guentzel as well as playing on the top PP unit with them and Jeff Carter and Kris Letang. Speaking of Carter, line two is also a solid play with him centering Kasperi Kapanen and Jason Zucker. Both Brian Dumoulin and John Marino are good value dmen.

Looking at Calgary, their top line is the obvious pay-up spot in this game, but you cannot sleep on the second line and goal-scoring extraordinaire Andrew Mangiapane. His salary is starting to creep up into the territory where we can’t play him anymore, but he is still viable for tonight. As are Mangiapane’s linemates, Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman. On defense, Noah Hanifin is a good mid-priced option, and both Erik Gudbranson and Chris Tanev make for good value plays.

If you aren’t playing Grubauer, then Buffalo’s top line is a good stack that might actually be low-owned tonight. Tage Thompson has been on fire as a goal-per-game player in his last five, but don’t sleep on both Dylan Cozens and Kyle Okposo from the Sabres third line either. Rasmus Dahlin is the pay-up dman from Buffalo, but I like both Mark Pysyk and Robert Hagg as cheap options from this team.

Friday 11/26 NHL Breakdown

Hey everyone, and welcome back to another Friday Forecheck! The NHL returns back to action tonight after the Thanksgiving holiday. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and were able to enjoy some time with loved ones. There are multiple slates on this Black Friday NHL day, but this article will focus on the Main Slate, starting at 7pm Eastern.

Goalies

Tristan Jarry – Pittsburgh Penguins: Jarry has been playing absolutely lights out for Pittsburgh over the last few games, and he has a great matchup tonight against the New York Islanders, who are still battling some COVID issues throughout their lineup. He should be in line for a win, with some decent shot upside tonight.

Elvis Merzlikins – Columbus Blue Jackets: Elvis has not been playing too great as of late, but this game is a chance for him to rebound. He has a slightly inflated 2.91 GAA over his last five games, but tonight has a chance to right the ship against a Vancouver team who has been struggling to score on the road, putting up just 2.2 goals per game over their last five road games. The Canucks are also surrendering a whopping 5 goals against per game over that same stretch.

Bonus GPP Goalie Pick – Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: Oettinger is another goalie who has been playing really well, and that is exactly what the Stars needed. Over their last five home games, the Stars have given up just 2 goals against per game, and in that stretch, handled the Edmonton Oilers, which is a feat in itself. Tonight, they get the Colorado Avalanche, who have been good on the road, scoring 4 goals per game. This is the shot upside, maybe get a win at low ownership, play tonight.

Lines to Build Around

These lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Toronto Maple Leafs 1 – Auston Matthews/Michael Bunting/Mitch Marner/Morgan Rielly: The Leafs have been playing well on this road trip, and everything points to that continuing tonight. They get a matchup tonight against the San Jose Sharks, and this top line should see a bunch of the Logan Couture line. This sets up nicely for AM and his crew.

Columbus Blue Jackets 1 – Boone Jenner/Oliver Bjorkstrand/Gustav Nyquist/Zach Werenski: The Blue Jackets have arguably the best upside on the board tonight. As mentioned above, the Canucks have been very bad on the road of late, and they have been giving up goals left and right. The Jackets play well at home, scoring 3.6 goals per game on the season thus far.

Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – Steven Stamkos/Ondrej Palat/Alex Barre-Boulet/Victor Hedman: The Lightning are in a fantastic spot as well, at home against the Seattle Kraken, who have been almost as bad as the Canucks on the road. Grubauer, the Kraken goalie, has been terrible so far this year, and even if he doesn’t go and the Lightning face Driedger, well that’s nice too! This top line will see a lot of the depth of Seattle tonight, and that is a fantastic plus matchup. You can also consider a TBL3 look of Ross Colton/Boris Katchouck/Taylor Raddysh. They are extreme value, but also extremely volatile. They did match up against the top line in their last home game, so there is a possibility of some upside there, if you want access to a high Vegas total for a discount. The TBL3 look is considered VERY high risk.

High Risk Lines

These are plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Jeff Carter/Jason Zucker/Kasperi Kapanen/John Marino: The Pens are a team that should do well tonight against a depleted Islanders team. Based on a small sample of line matching, this line should see the top line for the Isles for most of the night, which sets them up very nicely. The top Islander line is giving up 15.38 high danger chances against per 60. This line is only producing 8.58 high danger chances per 60, but the opportunities should be there. Consider the top line as well of Sidney Crosby/Jake Guentzel/Bryan Rust when looking at the Pens tonight.

Dallas Stars 3 – Tyler Seguin/Jacob Peterson/Alexander Radulov: This line should see a bunch of the depth lines for the Colorado Avalanche tonight, in a plus matchup. Seguin/Radulov have not been the same this year, which is what makes them risky, but this line looks to be in a good spot tonight.

Montreal Canadiens 3 – Jake Evans/Artturi Lehkonen/Brendan Gallagher: The line matching that Buffalo rolls with sets this line up with a very, very nice matchup against the opposing third line. These guys don’t hit the ice as much as we would like to see, so they carry a whole lot of risk, but they have a really nice upside matchup tonight, at very little to no ownership.

Mini Slate Tuesday!

We usually have huge 10-12 game slates on Tuesdays, but instead, we have a Monday-sized slate with just three games.

Even though it’s a small slate we have some really nice pay-up spots, namely the Edmonton Oilers. They are on the road in Dallas, which isn’t always an easy game. Calgary comes home from a long road trip to find the all of a sudden hot Chicago Blackhawks waiting for them. In the early game, we have the Flyers heading to the Sunshine State for Thanksgiving to Tampa!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

As strange as it sounds, all six spots seem like both great and terrible spots for goalies tonight at the same time. But, I did some digging and hopefully found a couple of goalies that can us into the green on Tuesday.

Jacob Markstrom (vs Chicago)

While the Hawks may be playing the best hockey they’ve played all season, they haven’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard. Chicago has won 5 of their last 6 but is only averaging 2.1 goals per game in that stretch while allowing just 1.8 goals per game. I expect this to be a low-scoring game on Tuesday and if Marc-Andre Fleury starts for Chicago he is my number two choice in net behind Markstrom. In his last six starts, Markstrom has allowed more than two goals once and has two shutouts. As for Fleury, he has not allowed more than two goals during his four-game win streak and is coming off a shutout of Vancouver himself. Since I build multiple lineups, I may have a couple of pieces from this game as far as skaters go, but I will have both goalies in this game for sure (if MAF starts).

** If Lankinen starts, load up on Calgary! Lankinen has allowed 18 goals in his last five starts and has only one win in that stretch. **

Carter Hart ( @ Tampa Bay)

Tampa can put up goals with the best of them, but they can also get shut down by good goaltending. Carter Hart is a good goaltender and even with this being a small slate, I could see him being slightly overlooked facing Tampa on the road. Philadelphia allows shots and allows them in bunches. In his last six starts, Hart has only seen less than 30 shots once, a 29 save shutout over Arizona. If you take that Arizona game out, in his last five starts Hart is seeing 35 shots goal per game and averaging 32.8 saves per game. Hart is cheap around the industry ($7.5K/$7.4K) which makes him an even more appealing play tonight.

Other Options: Stuart Skinner (@ Dallas)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

With this being a three-game slate, I will spare you the talk of building around Edmonton because you all know the drill. Try to fit Leon Draisaitl or Connor McDavid in with cheap pieces on defense like Cody Ceci or Duncan Keith. The real question is who can we play with any Oiler stacks. Well, their opponent seems like a good place to start.

Dallas Stars (vs Edmonton)

Edmonton is on the first night of a back-to-back so we will have to wait and see who starts in net as Skinner has been playing well in his last few starts. I will still have some interest in the Stars if he starts, but the matchup with Koskinen is much better. Either way, Dallas’ top line is where I would start. Roope Hintz is the highest-priced player on the entire line and his price doesn’t go over $6K (in fact he is $6K on FD). Hintz has been the best player on this line, especially over the last five games. In his last five, Hintz is a goal-per-game player and is averaging nearly three shots on goal per game. On his wings, both Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski have been equally as hot with five points and four points respectively in their last five as well. All three of these skaters are joined on the top power-play unit as well by defenseman John Klingberg, who himself is underpriced. Now, you can go Klingberg, but I will probably look at Ryan Suter and Esa Lindell on defense instead. Both are cheaper (by a lot on DK) and are outperforming Klingberg of late.

If you need a cheap two-man stack, Luke Glendening is a super cheap piece to pair with one of the cheap dmen. Unfortunately, he doesn’t play on either power-play unit and his minutes are only around 13 per game, but he has four points in his last five. Glendening is someone who will go completely overlooked on this slate and if he gets on the score sheet somehow he could be part of what gets you into the top half of the leaderboard.

Where’s the value?

Well, for one we can start where we left off, with Dallas. The Stars’ second line of Raffl/Benn/Gurianov has also been rolling but they are mainly a DK value line. This line comes in under $10K on DraftKings and while they have not been as productive as the top unit they can put up points. If you need the savings, then switch it up to Dallas 2.

If Lankinen starts, then Calgary 1 is the clear pivot off of the Edmonton chalk, but they may even be high owned on a small slate so I prefer to look at Calgary 2. All three of these guys have been playing well, but Andrew Mangiapane has been the man. Mangiapane has six goals in his last five and has 17 shots on goal. If you want to pair him up, I prefer to go with Mikael Backlund and Noah Hanifin (D) for a three-man stack.

Philadelphia 2 is another good value (on DK, FD seems too expensive) on Tuesday, specifically Claude Giroux and Derick Brassard. Both of these forwards have four points in their last five and both play on the top PP unit. Ivan Provorov is the dman for the PP with them, and while he has been good there may be better value. Both Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Sanheim have been more productive and even though they don’t see power-play time they are both logging over 20 minutes per game.

I haven’t mentioned Tampa, and it’s not because they are not a good play tonight, I just can’t find anything I want to use. They have some good pieces like Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman but they are super expensive. Anthony Cirelli is a decent mid-tier priced play along with linemate Alex Killorn and value play Mathieu Joseph.

Happy Monday!

First, I want to say thank you to all the readers out there who read my articles for both NASCAR and NHL since this is my 200th article for WinDaily Sports. I have written hundreds of articles before coming here but this is the best group of both content providers and subscribers that I have been around!

Now onto the reason, you’re all here, the six-game NHL slate. This is a rare larger Monday slate with the last few weeks only having 2-3 games each. This entire week is a little upside down with the Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S. on Thursday. Tuesday’s slate will be more like the Monday slates we’ve seen, so let’s dig in for this slate and keep our hot streak rolling!

This is a loaded back-end slate with only one game starting before 8 pm EST. Columbus is in Buffalo, who is coming off a heartbreaking loss with .4 seconds left against the Rangers on Sunday night. We should see Dustin Tokarski in net for the Sabres since Dell started Sunday. Tokarski had been the better goalie for Buffalo, but over the club’s last ten games he has been horrible. Columbus is going to be a spot where we can start our builds, but with both Colorado and Carolina playing later in the night we will have plenty of options when building on Monday.

Multiple Lineup Building

This is a slate where I will recommend building multiple lineups and going into the three entry max contests on DraftKings. There are plenty of different ways to build on this slate focusing on three core teams to build around like we did last Tuesday. We have five of the top 10 power-play units in the league on this slate and three of the worst penalty kills in the league as well.

Colorado is the top team for me on this slate at home against Ottawa. The Senators allow the second-most shots on goal per game, are 4th worst in goals against and have the 5th worst penalty kill in the league. Colorado is a top 10 power-play and also has the best shooting % in the league. This matchup shapes up to be a huge night for Colorado and that is where will start our builds. I will get more into the Avs later as well as my other two teams to build around, but let’s get into goalies!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Goaltending is tough tonight honestly. Some of the top plays have matchups that are not great for them fantasy-wise. Either because their salary doesn’t warrant their potential workload, or because they just won’t see enough shots to make value. But we have to play one, so here is where I am at.

Frederick Andersen ( @ San Jose)

Andersen is priced similarly on both sites ($8.0K/$8.4K) and could make value depending on his defense on Monday. Los Angeles peppered Andersen on Saturday with 43 shots allowing him to have a monster night even though he allowed four goals. Unfortunately, San Jose does not shoot the puck a lot as LA does. The Sharks rank towards the bottom of the league averaging just over 28 shots per game. On the positive, San Jose also has one of the worst shooting %s in the league at under 10%. Andersen is not in an outstanding spot, but for his price and matchup, we could do much worse on this slate.

Tristan Jarry @ Connor Hellebuyck

This is an odd occurrence, but I have an interest in both goaltenders from this game tonight. Both teams shoot the puck, a lot. Pittsburgh leads the league with 35.5 SOG per game and Winnipeg isn’t far behind with 32.06. Neither team is that prolific at putting the puck in the net this season with shooting %s under 10% for both, Pittsburgh being much worse at 8.28%. Jarry is coming off back-to-back shutouts so he could be due for a “letdown” but Winnipeg has only been averaging 3 goals per game in their last five and has only scored 3 goals in their last two games combined. Pittsburgh is starting to heat up with two straight wins and scoring eight goals in those two games. Jarry ($7.6/$7.5) would be my preference on both sites because of the potential win bonus and price, but Hellebuyck ($7.8/$8.1) is a great play as well if you have the salary.

Robin Lehner ( @ St. Louis)

I know a lot of people will probably end up wanting to play St. Louis, and I may even have some exposure myself, but Lehner does make sense from a fantasy aspect. St. Louis has been putrid over their last ten games, which is one reason I am on Lehner tonight. The Blues had a hot start to their season, but since the start of November they have lost seven of ten games, are scoring just 2.7 goals per game, and averaging 35.5 shots on goal. Lehner has also been seeing a lot of shots, only two games in his last ten has the Vegas netminder seen less than 33.

Other Options: Darcy Kuemper ( vs Ott), John Gibson (@ NSH)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Colorado Avalanche ( vs Ottawa)

I already mentioned a lot of reasons to love the Avs in the open, so I will keep this short. Play the Avalanche. There you go, you’re welcome

No, but seriously this matchup shapes up to be a huge fantasy night for a lot of players on this team. Both Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog are in play tonight, but they are going to set you back a huge amount of salary and they have been outproduced by the cheap second line over the Av’s last five games. The line of Nazem Kadri, Valerie Nichushkin, and Andre Burakovsky. Not only have they outproduced the first line, but all three cost less than both Rantanen and Landeskog combined. In their last five games, this line has eight of the Avs’ 24 goals with Burakovsky leading the way with five. Burakovsky and Kadri both play on the top power-play with Landeskog and Rantanen as well as Cale Makar. I will be rostering different members of this PP unit in almost all of my lineups, but I will switch out Makar for different defensemen depending on my salary needs.

Makar is the best option, but he is expensive. Devon Toews plays the most minutes and sees time on PP2 and the Pk, Erik Johnson is a shot-blocking machine and is also getting plenty of rubber on net as well giving him the peripheral points, and Samuel Girard is also on PP2 with Toews and has been good offensively of late.

Carolina Hurricanes ( @ San Jose)

I mentioned Seth Jarvis in discord on Saturday and he did not disappoint so I am mentioning him here again. Jarvis is seeing his price creep up slowly, but he is still super cheap for his output and the fact he skates on the top line. I love this play tonight paired with the high-priced Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov. You will have to decide whether you want Car1 or Col1 because there is no way to fit both, but you can fit them in with Col2 easily. You will just need to find a value stack to go with them and we have plenty of those. Jarvis has three goals in his last five, and Aho and Svech have benefited by scoring a combined three goals and seven assists in that stretch. If you wanted to add a defenseman to this stack, I would substitute Svechnikov out for either Tony DeAngelo or Jaccob Slavin. DeAngelo plays on the top PP with Aho while Slavin is on the second unit with Jarvis. Slavin sees over 5 minutes more ice time than DeAngelo and projects for almost the same point total at a much lower price on both sites. Brady Skjei is another defenseman who sees more time than DeAngelo and is cheaper than both he and Slavin you can consider.

Columbus Blue Jackets ( @ Buffalo)

Columbus is the third team I want to build around on Monday night and will probably be the lowest owned of the bunch. I don’t see the Blue Jackets being overly popular with teams like the Canes, Avs, Penguins, and Blues on the slate even though they are in Buffalo. Columbus’ top line is a great place to start any build, but if you are trying to fit this team in with the Canes and Avs then you will need to look at their second line. Cole Sillinger has cooled off of late, but he is still centering line 2 and the top power-play unit. Jakub Voracek is a nice piece to pair with Sillinger for a two-man stack and is way too cheap, especially on DK, for his point-per-game production over the team’s last five games. Lastly, Yegor Chinakov is near min price on both sites and is a good cheap play to make higher-priced stacks work.

I will still have exposure to the top line of Oliver Bjorkstrand, Gustav Nyquist, and Boone Jenner. Bjorkstrand is the only player on that line over $6K on either site so they are an affordable line as well. On defense, Zach Werenski is the top play, but he is expensive. If you need to save some salary, then both Jake Bean and Vladislav Gavrikov are the way to go from Columbus. Both of them block shots, get shots on goal, and have added assists over the club’s last five games. Neither sees PP time, but they are both averaging over 20 minutes of ice time so that is not an issue for me.

Value Stacks:

Even though I like Lehner tonight, St. Louis 3 pops out as a cheap stack that could be fruitful. I like using Brandon Saad with Ivan Barbashev as a two-man or add in a cheap dman like Marco Scandella for a full three-man. If you have the salary, then a PP1 stack of David Perron and Vladimir Tarasenko with Saad projects higher, but that is nearly double the salary of the 3rd line stack.

Pittsburgh’s second PP unit is another good cheap stack tonight. I know we try to stay on PP1’s but if you need the salary relief, Kasperi Kapanen skates on line 2 with Jeff Carter and is on the second unit. Both Danton Heinen and Evan Rodrigues are cheap pieces for a three-man stack. Both Jason Zucker and dman John Marino fit for this stack as well.

Any combination of Troy Terry/Adam Henrique/Ryan Getzlaf paired up with Cam Fowler make for a low-priced (relatively speaking) Anaheim 1 stack against Nashville tonight. This team is still hot and Nashville is not a team that should shut them down.

Vegas 1, Winnipeg 2, and Nashville 1 are mid-priced stacks that you can look at if you are going with multiple lineups and only use one of Carolina or Colorado in those builds.

Friday 11/19 NHL Breakdown

What is the NHL doing? One day we have 11 games, and then next we have 2. It makes it a little tougher to manage when the schedule is like this, and it would be nice for the schedule to be more spread out. Hopefully, that happens when we get to the new year and through the holidays. Tonight is a 2 game slate, and because of that, we will break down each game. Don’t forget, we have a late start tonight, as the slate starts at 10pm Eastern.

On a two game slate, it is important to get creative. There is no real ‘wrong’ way to play tonight, as the options are of course very limited. It isn’t out of the question to play a couple different looks of the same line, and if you so choose, you can play a tight pool of players with small variations. At the same time, it is also important to not overthink it. The best plays are the best plays for a reason, so don’t shy away from them.

From a goalie standpoint, it is totally okay to just correlate your goalies with your stacks. You are basically saying that the team you are playing is going to win, so that correlation is fine. Of course, if you prefer to play your favorite goalie, just make sure that you don’t stack against him, because that could limit the upside of your lineup altogether.

Tonight’s slate, based on the Vegas totals, could be a high scoring slate, so we have to find as much scoring as possible to keep up.

Game 1: Colorado Avalanche @ Seattle Kraken

Vegas: COL (-158) total 3.4, SEA (+130) total 2.8; O/U 6

Overview: The Avalanche come into this game as heavy favorites, and rightfully so. The Kraken have been struggling of late, losing their last five consecutive games. Tonight’s matchup is not making this run any easier, and Colorado could very well destroy them tonight. Over that stretch of the last 5 games, the Kraken have given up 4.8 goals per game. Colorado, in their last five, have scored 4.6 goals per game, even without Nathan MacKinnon, who has been hurt. Colorado should be heavy chalk tonight (and for good reason), especially Nazem Kadri with Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen, especially as people chase them after their last game.

Goalies

Phillipp Grubauer (Seattle Kraken): Grub has been having a really rough go of it this season, and tonight looks to be a challenge as well. Sporting a bloated 3.18 GAA and rough .877 SV% so far this year, he has been even worse over his last five, with a 4.09 GAA. Grubauer is a tough sell tonight against a team who has the scoring power to dominate this game. Even if Driedger gets the start tonight, this play feels too risky.

Darcy Kuemper (Colorado Avalanche): Darcy has been having a very good season so far, sporting a 2.56 GAA and .916 SV% this season. As a heavy favorite, he should be chalky, and it makes a ton of sense. The shot upside might be limited here, so if he fits in your lineups, then go for it. Overall, he might not be the best play, but he should be the safest.

Lines to Play

Colorado Power Play – Gabriel Landeskog/Mikko Rantanen/Andre Burakovsky/Cale Makar: The best part about playing the power play is that it gets you access to multiple lines. Burakovsky plays on the second line, and tonight should be a good spot for this entire unit, even strength or not.

Colorado 2 – Valeri Nichushkin/Nazem Kadri/Andre Burakovsky: The second line can be played straight up tonight, as they face the depth lines for Seattle. However, it seems the way that Seattle has been playing, it doesn’t really matter the matchup. Samuel Girard and Devon Toews are good D-men that correlate with this line.

Seattle 1 – Jaden Schwartz/Alexander Wennberg/Jordan Eberle/Mark Giordano: IF you want to get different and play the other side of this game, this is the play. The top line for Seattle doesn’t have a specific matchup, based on their line matching patterns. This gives them a slight advantage over the depth lines when they match up against them.

Value Options:

Nicolas Aube-Kubel -W (COL): NAK is a great option for value, as he slots into the top power play

Logan O’Connor – W (COL): Slotting into the top line, he is good value to potentially luck into a couple of points

Marcus Johansson/Joonas Donskoi (SEA): Each of these guys play on the top power play for Seattle, so they correlate well with the top line

Erik Johnson – D (COL): About 20 minutes per night, and gets you shots and blocks; not the prettiest play, but should make you different

Vince Dunn – D (SEA): He has been very inconsistent throughout his career so far, but 20 minutes per game and some time on the power play means he could be a fine value D man

Game 2: Winnipeg Jets @ Vancouver Canucks

Vegas: WPG (-121) total 3.1, VAN (+100) total 3.1; O/U 6

Overview: This game is definitely very interesting, and not nearly as clear cut as the Colorado game. Winnipeg has been playing well recently, taking Edmonton to a shootout last night, and winning three of their last five games. Since they are on a traveling back to back, this makes Vancouver a little intriguing tonight. However, Vancouver has been playing somewhat poorly recently, giving up a whopping 5.2 goals against per game in their last five. It really could go either way tonight, and depending on if Hellebuyck (see goalie notes) actually starts, this could be a game stack situation. Something to note, these two teams have the two worst penalty kills in the league.

Goalies

Thatcher Demko (Vancouver Canucks): Demko is slated to start tonight, and he is in a good spot for shot upside and a potential upset win. However, his recent games have been poor. Over his last five, he is sporting a 3.94 GAA, up from his season-long GAA of 3.31. His team has not helped him, as they are surrendering 11.41 high danger chances against per 60 on the season so far. He was looking pretty good in the very early part of the season, but when you are faced with that many chances night after night, it is tough to keep it up. He is an intriguing deeper GPP option, and you hope you catch him in positive regression against a team that could be tired.

Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg Jets): We likely won’t know the official starters until way later, near lock, so make sure you keep an eye on who starts. If Hellebuyck starts in a back-to-back, he has a good win potential tonight, and should be middle of the road when it comes to shot volume. Though he hasn’t played a lot this season, if Eric Comrie gets the nod, then he is a solid play that can be considered, but Helle is the preferred play tonight if he goes.

Lines to Play

Winnipeg 2 – Kyle Connor/Pierre-Luc Dubois/Blake Wheeler: The even strength matchup for this line looks very, very good, as they should get the likes of the Elias Pettersson line for most of the game tonight. That line is giving up 12.13 high danger chances per 60, and in a small-ish sample, this line generates 20.2 high danger chances per 60. If you really want to limit your exposure, you can drop Dubois and play a Connor/Wheeler mini, but this whole line is in a good spot.

Winnipeg Power Play – Andrew Copp/Kyle Connor/Nikolaj Ehlers/Neal Pionk: As mentioned above, the penalty kill units in this game are the two worst in the league, so this unit will have ample opportunity tonight. The Canucks happen to be the worst team at killing penalties, and they are also spending 5.27 mins/G on the penalty kill, which is high enough to want some of this unit.

Vancouver 1 -Tanner Pearson/Bo Horvat/Nils Hoglander: This top line should match up against the Mark Scheifele line tonight, in a very nice looking matchup. The Scheifele line is surrendering 2.91 expected goals against, 40.18 scoring chances against, and 14.61 high danger chances against, all per 60 minutes. This line is producing 3.14 expected goals, 44.28 scoring chances, and 14.2 high danger chances per 60, which puts them in a fantastic matchup at even strength tonight. The concern with this line is that their production has been lackluster, so will they actually capitalize on those chances? Oliver Ekman-Larsson is a good correlating defender to pair with this line.

Vancouver Power Play – Brock Boeser/Bo Horvat/Elias Pettersson/J.T. Miller/Quinn Hughes: This unit gets to go against the 31st ranked penalty kill tonight, and playing this unit gets you access to the top two lines, which is a good thing, especially on a two game slate. It will make you different. With the Winnipeg PK struggling, this could be different enough with upside to get you there.

Value Options

Riley Nash – W (WPG): He is listed on the top power play, and provides a ton of salary relief if needed

Andrew Copp -W (WPG): Top power play AND top line winger, getting good minutes in an upside spot

Tucker Poolman – D (VAN): The “off D man”, meaning he is the D man opposite OEL tonight. He still gets top pair minutes at a huge discount and playing “off D men” is one way you can get unique with your lineup.

Tyler Myers – D (VAN): He logs about 20 minutes per game and fills up the “fringe stats” like shot blocking and shots on goal

This article focuses on 11/18 NHL Picks for both DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbooks and FanDuel and DraftKings Daily Fantasy. We analyze tournament tactics, statistics, pricing, and attempt to tackle this highly variable Daily Fantasy format so that we can gain an edge on the field at large. Full rankings for each position for both sites are available below.

Thursday 11/18 NHL Slate and DFS Gameplan

Welcome back to the Hot Shot for an eleven-game Thursday slate!

Toronto One “Auston Matthews – Add-Ons “Mitch Marner, Nick Ritchie”DraftKings or FanDuel

This is the smash spot that the Maple Leafs have been waiting for. As of late, they have mostly been winning games with limited scoring and great defense/goaltending. On the other hand, the Rangers have been engaged in some high scoring shootouts over their last six games, the logs are 3-2 “vs. Canadiens”, 4-3 “vs Devils”, 5-3 “vs Blue Jackets”, 4-3 “vs Panthers”, 0-6 “vs the Flames”, 5-6 “vs the Oilers” and I’d say only Calgary, the Panthers, and Edmonton are arguably above the Toronto offense on that list.

If the trend continues the Leafs have a floor of four goals here and when the Leafs score four goals, chances are very high Auston Matthews and the top line are involved in a few of them. Given the superior matchup, I prioritize Toronto over the other expensive line listed at the bottom when paying up. If you want to leave Marner off for his lack of goal scoring and just roll Matthews as a one-off, that works too. You can also opt for the Toronto second line as well and pass on Matthews and I think that’s reasonable.

Florida One “Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Bennett, Anthony Duclair” – DraftKings Only “Criminally Underpriced”

Down their star in Aleksandr Barkov, Florida has adjusted all of their lines and top power-play unit and had dropped four straight games after a hot start to the season prior to a home drubbing of the road-weary Islanders “don’t remind me”. That losing stretch included a 7-3 loss to said New Jersey Devils “albeit in New Jersey”. The Devils have had a ton of rest last playing Sunday due to a postponement Tuesday with Ottawa.

Vegas sees goals here as this is one of two games with a six total as of the time of writing. I think the better betting value is on the Devils but the better daily fantasy value is on Florida, at least on DraftKings where they are criminally underpriced for such huge favorites. In Barkov’s absence, Jonathan Huberdeau and Sam Bennett have moved up to the revised top line alongside Anthony Duclair. All three are up top on the first power-play unit.

Edmonton One Two Man “Connor McDavid, Zach Hyman” or Edmonton Power Play One “Connor McDavid, Zach Hyman and/or Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins” – DraftKings or FanDuel

They have a tougher matchup than Toronto but if using Florida One and saving at defense, splurging elsewhere, I think the Edmonton top power-play unit is more doable with salary than on other nights so why not? It’s one of only two games along with Florida/New Jersey with a six total. I am not sure what else to tell you about the two big guns on this line McGod and Leon Draisaitl, probably not much if we’re a month into the season and you still play NHL. Conversely, you can also go with McDavid and Hyman who have a double correlation on both the top line and power-play unit without adding a power-play piece like Draisaitl or Ryan Nugent Hopkins. I am more bullish on stacking on Edmonton’s power play for correlation than most teams as their main guys usually get the near full two minutes.
