May 25 at 1:30 pm ET

Summary: PIT 60% delay ~9pm, <10% ppd risk; CLE: 20% delay risk; KC: 1st game looks safe, 2nd game 30-40% delay risk

Very good hitting conditions will be found in MIN, STL and COL because of the warmth and/or winds.

KC is a big problem. Thunderstorms are headed their way and this game is a big PPD risk. Follow @dfsmlbweather on twitter for updates.

No other games have weather issues this evening in terms of delays/PPD. Roofs in MIL, TOR and HOU will likely be closed. Good hitting weather in COL, WSH, MIN and STL.

BAL and PIT are two very volatile weather games today. Tstorms, potentially severe, will rumble across the region. One minute it can be warm and sunny. Ten minutes later torrential downpours. That is why both of these games are high delay threats and rather low PPD threats (unlike LAA’s stadium, these fields can actually handle water and drain).

NYM being a bit further north and east should see the tstorms hold off until late in the game or after the game. Starting pitchers in that game look to be safe, but are not 100% so.

No other games to be worried about.

Very small risk of a delay in PIT. There are no threats of any postponed games today and tonight.

The big weather story this evening is the lovely weather condition in Chicago’s Wrigley Field for hitters. A 15-20 mph wind (with higher gusts to 25-30 mph) will be blowing out to left. Temperatures will be near 80 to begin the game and humidity levels, while not oppressive, are beginning to creep up towards summer-like levels. All in all, looks like a great night to be a batter in Wrigley.

Weather update

Two games to watch in terms of delay/ppd issues today, CHC and STL. CHC will see rain at times through the early afternoon and tstorms will approach late tonight. In between, they should have enough time to play a baseball game. Strong breeze blowing in from right at Wrigley.

STL does not look so lucky. Strong tstorms move in around 9 pm ET and cause this game to be both a rain-shortned/ppd threat. As we get closer to the game, details on the timing will probably be needed to be adjusted.

The other game with strange weather conditions is TEX. It will be mild as normal, and the wind will be blowing in as normal, but the air is very dry. Abnormally so. Not the usual heat and humidity that they play in most of the time (including last night).

Roofs in MIL and TOR will be closed.

TEX is the only game with any delay/PPD concerns. Their region will be dealing with potentially severe tstorms, so an eye to the sky will be needed. Other locations where weather could play a factor: we see warmth in BAL, chill in CHC and roofs in TOR and HOU will likely be closed.

CHW, CIN both have delay threats as tstorms rumble nearby. Probably not a PPD threat but bears watching. With that same storm system, DET is a PPD threat as the rain is steadier and lasts longer, Warm and muggy further to the east, with a few pop-up tstorms forming during the afternoon hours. NYY, PHI and then WSH this evening could see a tstorm affect them, but chances are they play clean. Strangely enough, another disturbance will affect CA, thus LAA and SD have small delay risks as well.
