Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for a Monday night! Tonight we have a seven-game slate, so let’s get started!

With seven games on the slate tonight we have plenty of options to choose from when building our lineups tonight. That may seem like a good thing, but some nights it can be a bad thing. Looking at tonight’s slate we have 5 of the top 10 teams in goals scored (and Vegas is #11) on this slate so there should be plenty of goals scored. We just need to pick the right teams and the right lines, and we all know how easy that is (insert eye roll emoji)

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

There is one obvious play in net tonight, Philipp Grubauer ($8,500/$8,100). Colorado is home to the Ducks who are on the second night of a road back to back. Anaheim just played an overtime game on the road Sunday night in St. Louis, and as one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league who is now also a tired team without one of their best players ( Rickard Rakell), this matchup seems easy for the Av’s netminder. If you are playing cash or on FanDuel, then Grubauer is your guy, but if you’re on DraftKings then this next play may be the one for you.

Kaapo Kahkonen ($7,900/$8,300)

Kahkonen hasn’t played in over a week for the Wild because Cam Talbot ($7,700/$8,300) has been the hot hand in net. If the Wild go back to Talbot tonight is an equally fine play as well. I think the Wild give Kahkonen the start tonight in San Jose against a Sharks team that ranks towards the bottom in most offensive categories. San Jose is 27th in goals for, and average just 2.6 per game. In their last 10 games San Jose has been allowing over 30 saves per game and near 18 FPPG. Kahkonen has mad 2 starts and appeared in a 3rd game, stopping 79 of 85 shots for a .929 sv% and made 31 saves the last time out against San Jose in a Minnesota 6-2 win.

Other Options: Tristan Jarry ($7,800/$8,400), Robin Lehner ($8,200), Connor Hellebuyck ($7,700/$8,500), David Rittich ($7,800/$7,00)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Once again, with so many of the top goal scoring teams on this slate (Edm,Col,Tor,Pit,Wpg,VGK) there will be plenty of options for us to use. Of course all three of Edmonton, Toronto, and Colorado’s top lines are in play. Vegas’ top line may be one of the best options on the slate at home to LA. We saw Pittsburgh’s top line destroy the Islanders on Saturday night. All these lines are in play tonight, but I have another line that could rival the scores these teams put up tonight.

Philadelphia Flyers :

Philly has not been the most prolific offensive team of late, notching just 13 goals in their last 5 games (3 loses). Just like you go to the doctor when you’re sick, NHL teams go to Buffalo to feel better and that’s what Philadelphia does tonight.

I like multiple lines from the Flyers tonight, but their top unit stands out to me as the one line that should get it done against the Sabres. They are not overly expensive but have one of the higher ceilings on the slate tonight. Sean Couturier ($6,300/$7,400) centers the top line and he comes in riding a three-game point streak (3 goals 2 assists). On the wings are James van Riemsdyk ($6,100/$5,600) and Travis Konecny ($4,900/$5,600) who haven’t been as hot as Couturier but in this matchup, they could get going. JVR has 4 points (2 goals 2 assists) against Buffalo this season, and Konecny has added a goal against the Sabres. All three are also on the Flyers’ top PP unit, playing against the Sabres who in the bottom third of the league in PK%. Kevin Hayes ($5,500/$5,100) and Shayne Gostisbehere ($5,100/$3,700) round out the Flyers top power-play unit. I really like Ghost on FD today at his cheap $3.7K price tag and he has already scored twice against the Sabres in just three games this season.

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night March 22nd! Tonight we have a massive 10 game slate with two of the top fantasy teams, Edmonton and Colorado, on this slate

We have both the Oilers and Avalanche on this slate but they aren’t the top places I want to look on a slate with 20 teams in action. Calgary is back on the east coast to take on the Senators for the 4th time this month. This game is the only one carrying a 6.5 O/U (according to DK Sportsbook).

In the late games, Los Angeles and San Jose is the game that intrigues me the most because it has shootout potential. San Jose has one of the worst penalty kills in the league allowing the 10th most opportunities and the 14th most power-play goals. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has scored the 6th most power-play goals in the league and the 8th most opportunities. If you haven’t already figured it out, the Kings power-play is one of my top plays tonight. They will carry low ownership and are fairly inexpensive industry-wide.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cam Talbot ($8,300/$8,000)

I would much prefer to play Kahkonen, but Talbot is the starter on Monday, and either way the matchup is still a good one. Since his return from the IR on 2/26 Talbot has only been mediocre, but Anaheim presents an opportunity to get himself back on the right track. The Ducks have only scored 10 goals in their last 6 games, and average a pathetic 2.2 goals per game. One thing Anaheim doesn’t do is shot a lot, only 27.7 S/G per game, but Minnesota does allow over 30 shots on goal per game.

Other Options:

If you play on FanDuel, then Alexander Georgiev ($8,600/$7,500) is a great play against the Sabres on Monday. I won’t pay that price on DK for a middle-of-the-pack goalie on a large slate, but on FD he is a top play.

In a reversal, the Golden Knights Robin Lehner ($8,000/$8,500) is a better play on DK at home against the Blues on Monday night. If you really want to spend up, then Lehner is in a good spot, but I don’t love the price on FD. In his first start back from a concussion on Saturday, Lehner stopped 23 of 25 LA shots in a 4-2 win. St. Louis’ offense is slightly better than Los Angeles, but they are not even close to one of the top teams in the league offensively. I really like Lehner on Monday but more so on DK because of pricing.

All three of Thatcher Demko ($7,600/$7,700), Cal Petersen ($7,500/$7,200), and Semyon Varlamov ($7,900/$8,300) are good plays as well in their matchups on Monday night.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

As always when they are on a late, both Colorado and Edmonton are great spots to be your pay-up stack or mini stack. I actually like some of the Colorado value tonight against Arizona as well. I mentioned both Calgary and Los Angeles as good places to build stacks, Ottawa is also in a pretty decent spot at home to the aforementioned Flames. Sticking with the Canadian teams, Winnipeg is also in a great spot tonight as well. I know I said Demko is an option in net tonight, but we have seen him give up 4-5 goals and still have a decent fantasy night because of how porous the Canucks defense is and allowing 35-40+ shots on goal per game.

Winnipeg Jets:

When looking at the Jets, their second line is actually where I prefer to start when building stacks. Kyle Connor ($6,400/$7,100) has cooled off some in the Jets last two games, but the entire team seemed to in their two games with the Oilers. Before that two-game stretch, the Jet winger has back-to-back multi goal games and has ten points in his last ten. His linemate Nikolaj Ehlers ($6,700) is playing equally as well. In his last three games, Ehlers has 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists), and has 11 points in his last 10 games. They are centered by Pierre-Luc Dubois ($4,900/$5,400), who himself has five points in his last three games including a 3 assist game last Wednesday. Vancouver’s penalty kill is an absolute dumpster fire right now, well actually all season, and you can use Connor with parts of the top line and/or defenseman Josh Morrisey ($4,500/$4,600) for a power-play 1 stack. Both Dubois and Ehlers see time on the second unit with defenseman Neal Pionk ($4,900/$4,800).

New York Rangers:

Another spot that might be more popular is the Rangers against Buffalo. Both of their top lines are in play or you can mix and match them for power-play stacks as well. New York’s top line has the highest ceiling of any stack in my opinion today based of recent history (9-0 against Philadelphia last week) and their opponents (Buffalo) inability to play hockey currently. Adam Fox ($5,200) is the only defenseman I would use from the Rangers as nobody else really seems to do much offensively. I know some people will look to play Miller or Trouba because of PP2 exposure, but I wouldn’t go there. There are much better value plays on the point tonight with so many teams playing on this slate.

Other Stacking Options:

Top Line Stacks (outside of teams already mentioned):

  • Minnesota 1 vs Anaheim (Ryan Miller should start with Gibson still on IR)
  • St. Louis 2 vs Vegas
  • Vegas 1 vs St. Louis (Monitor the Max Pacioretty injury situation)
  • Carolina 1 vs Columbus
  • Vegas 2 vs St. Louis
  • NY Islanders 1 vs Philadelphia (I prefer to swap Komarov off for Beauvillier for a PP1 stack)
  • St. Louis 1 vs Vegas
  • Columbus 1 vs Carolina

Top Value Stacks:

  • Columbus 2 vs Carolina
  • Philadelphia 3 vs NYI
  • Anaheim 1 vs Minnesota
  • Philadelphia 2 vs NYI
  • Arizona 1 vs Colorado
  • Montreal 2 vs Edmonton
  • Minnesota 2 vs Anaheim
  • NY Islanders 3 vs Philadelphia
  • Winnipeg 3 vs Vancouver

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night March 15th! Tonight we have a 9 game slate and it is full of some of the league’s top talent, specifically the dynamic duo from Edmonton

Like I mentioned above we have the Oilers on this slate so we can assume that both Connor McDavid ($9,200/$9,100) and Leon Draisaitl ($8,600/$8,500) will be two of the highest owned players on this slate. I will not tell you to fade them because that wouldn’t be the best idea, but I will tell you that you don’t need to force them in a lineup. If you can fit one (or both) then do it, but if you can make a build you like without them go for it. We have five other games with a 6 O/U and two games with 6.5 (according to DraftKings sportsbook). Both San Jose @ Vegas and Vancouver @ Ottawa have a higher projected total on tonight’s slate.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Thatcher Demko ($8,000/$7,000)

Demko has been one of the hottest goalies in the league fantasy-wise of late and DraftKings has priced him up tonight. FanDuel on the other hand continues to show that they have no clue how to price goaltenders. While I like Demko, I don’t think I will be using him on DK (I don’t pay up for goalies), but on FD he is a lock against Ottawa on the second night of a back-to-back. Demko has won 5 of his last 6 starts and has scored over 31 FDFP in each of those 5 wins. In their last 5 games, Ottawa is averaging 36 shots on goal per game.

Kevin Lankinen ($7,100/7,000)/Malcolm Subban ($6,900/$7,000)

Whoever starts tonight for the Blackhawks will probably be where I end up on DraftKings tonight. Neither of the two Chicago netminders has been stellar of late, but Florida has not been racking up the goals either. In their last 10 games, Florida is averaging 32.4 shots on goal per game, but just 2.4 goals per game. With how low these goalies are priced we just need a decent night in net for them to return value. I do think Demko can be the top goalie tonight, but on DK I can use that $1K elsewhere to bolster my forwards and still get solid fantasy output from my goalie.

If you want to play the ownership game, Jacob Markstrom ($7,600/$7,500) against Edmonton is where I would go. Markstrom should have next to no ownership since the majority of people will most likely look to have some exposure to Edmonton with how well they have been playing. I am not saying this is the best way to go tonight, but if you are making multiple lineups and want to hedge that the Oilers don’t go off, Markstrom is a good play.

Other Options: Marc-Andre Fleury ($8,500/$8,400), Ilya Samsonov ($8,400/$8,200), Cal Petersen ($7,400/$7,200), Tristan Jarry ($7,700)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

As I mentioned in the open, the Sharks/Golden Knights game has a 6.5 O/U for tonight meaning that is where I want to start when looking to build stacks (outside of Edmonton).

San Jose @ Vegas

Vegas ranks first in the league in goals against, but they are allowing over 2 goals per game in their last 5 games. San Jose is scoring over 3 goals per game in their last 5 and I don’t think Fleury shuts the Sharks out tonight. I know Flower did just shut the Sharks out back on March 6th, but I think they net a couple of goals tonight. I am mainly interested in the top line from San Jose of Evander Kane ($6,500/$7,000), Logan Couture ($6,200/$7,400), and Kevin Labanc ($4,300/$4,400). This line is the only one that has been producing regularly for Sharks. In their last 10 games together they have combined for 18 goals and 15 assists.

Other San Jose Options: Tomas Hertl($4,200/$5,800) and Timo Meier ($5,400/$5,600) L2 Mini stack. On defense you can go Brent Burns ($6,800/$6,400), Erik Karlsson ($4,700/4,600), or Mario Ferraro ($3,500/$3,700)

Now, where I really want to look is on the Vegas side of this game. There is a wide variety of options to go with on this side of the game. Obviously, the top line from the Golden Knights is in play as always and is one of the top options, but if you need to save some salary there are other ways to go. Jonathan Marchessault ($5,500/$6,000) is a way to pivot off the chalkier Stephenson and Pacioretty options for a PP1 stack. If you wanted to make a lower-owned PP2 stack from Vegas, Alex Tuch ($5,400/4,800) is my favorite play for that. Both William Karlsson ($4,700/$5,500) and Reilly Smith ($4,400/$4,600) are good skaters to pair with Tuch. Now you can get really different and get a piece of all three of the top lines for Vegas with your PP2 stack and add Mark Stone ($6,000/$7,500) to Tuch and one of Karlsson/Smith. Stone is more of a DK play based on his low salary there compared to FD. On defense with Pietrangelo out, Shea Theodore is the best option, but if you are going PP2, Dylan Coghlan ($3,900/$4,100) is the cheaper defensive option.

Other Stacking Options:

Top Line Stacks:

  • Pittsburgh 1 vs Boston
  • Chicago 1 vs Florida
  • Philadelphia 1 vs NYR
  • Washington 1 vs Buffalo
  • Winnipeg 2 vs Montreal
  • Boston 1 vs Pittsburgh
  • Los Angeles 1 vs St. Louis
  • NYR 2 vs Philadelphia

Top Value Stacks:

  • Winnipeg 3 vs Montreal
  • Philadelphia 2 vs NYR
  • Boston 2 vs Pittsburgh
  • Philadelphia 3 vs NYR
  • Los Angeles 2 vs St. Louis
  • Pittsburgh 2 vs Boston

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Wednesday night March 10th! Tonight we have a 5 game slate that is practically a carbon copy of the slate we saw on Monday night.

When we have slates like this, repeats of the same from two nights previous, I like to look back and see if there is anything that stands out. What I see is that Anaheim and Los Angeles played a high-scoring old-school game, which is not the norm for these teams so we shouldn’t expect this again tonight. We also saw Vegas get shutout and that has only happened once this season so it is also unlikely to happen again. Lastly, we saw Connor McDavid ($9,300/$8,800) have a multi-point game, which we CAN expect again seeing as he has done that 13 times this season already.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Carey Price ($7,800/$7,700)

Price is my top option tonight and he works on both sites and in both cash and GPP games as well. Vancouver may have beaten the Canadiens on Monday night but they didn’t do it with offense. Price stopped 28 of 29 shots and lost 2-1 in a shootout. Over their last 10 games, Vancouver is allowing over 30 saves P/G, scoring just over 2 goals P/G, and allowing opposing goaltenders to score over 20 FP P/G. If Jake Allen ($7,600/$7,700) starts tonight he is just as good of an option as Price.

Los Angeles Kings @ Anaheim Ducks

Even though both goalies from the Ducks and Kings game got lit up like the Rockefeller Christmas tree on Monday night I am going right back to the well with this game and the goaltenders. I am going to guess we see Cal Petersen ($7,500/$7,200) and John Gibson ($7,500/$6,700) in the net for their respective teams tonight. Both have been good fantasy options, especially Gibson at his extremely low price on FanDuel. I am not afraid to go back to these goalies, and neither should you.

Other Options: Marc-Andre Fleury ($8,100/$8,500), Philip Grubauer ($8,200/$8,300), Mikko Koskinen ($8,300/$8,000), Kappo Kahkonen ($7,400/7,500)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Even on a small late like we have tonight we still have some big names to use. I already mentioned McDavid, but that also means we have Leon Draisaitl ($8,100/$7,900) on the slate. Draisaitl has been cold of late for his standards and hasn’t had a multi-point game since 2/23 against Vancouver. This season in five games against Ottawa, the reigning league MVP has 3 goals, 7 assists, 13 shots on goal, and is averaging over 17 fantasy points per game, so maybe Wednesday is the night Draisaitl gets out of this “slump”. Nathan MacKinnon ($8,700/$8,300) should be returning for the Avs tonight and might be the lower owned of the studs tonight. I love playing the Vegas top line, but I believe Max Pacioretty ($8,200/$8,100) is a little overpriced tonight and I may shy away from using him in any Vegas stacks.

Stacking Options:

Obviously, both the top lines from Edmonton and Colorado are in play whenever they are on a slate, and the same generally goes for Vegas. We need to wait and see if Mark Stone ($6,100/$7,400) is back for Vegas, but like I said I don’t think I want a Vegas 1 stack tonight.

One of my favorite stacks tonight is once again Montreal Canadiens 3. We saw them get shut down by Vancouver on Monday, and while the Canucks have been good defensively of late during their 3 game win streak, that is not their specialty. I know eventually the Canucks will turn back into a pumpkin and give up a 4 or 5 spot, so why not tonight. Tyler Toffoli ($7,000/$6,600) has torched the Canucks this season to the tune of 8 goals, 3 assists, and 29 shots on goal in 6 games. Vancouver boasts the league’s worst penalty kill, allows the most penalties, and is 30th in the league in goals against. I am going back to the well again tonight with the Canadiens stack.(Josh Anderson ($5,500/$4,800)/Jesperi Kotkaniemi ($3,400/$3,900)

If you don’t think Fleury has a good night, or the Golden Knights decide to go with their backup the Minnesota Wild have a couple of good lines to look at. Most people will flock to their top line, and while I still believe in them, it’s their new second line that has been getting it done (and they are cheap!). The combination of Jordan Greenway ($3,200/$4,200)/Joel Eriksson Ek ($5,000/$4,700)/Marcus Foligno ($3,300/$3,700) has been on fire over their last five games.

Outside of the lines mentioned above, here a couple more line stacks I am interested in:

  1. Edmonton 2
  2. Los Angeles 1
  3. Vancouver 2

Value Stack Options:

  1. Ottawa 3
  2. Anaheim 2 and 3
  3. Vegas 2 (borderline value)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night March 8th! Tonight we have a 6 game slate that has a weird start time, 8 pm on the east coast, so you have some extra time to get those lineups in!!

When you first look at this slate one really obvious thing slaps you right in face, Edmonton gets Ottawa on the second night of a back to back. Connor McDavid ($9,200/$8,700) is going to be the most popular play I believe and that is how it should be. McDavid should feast on a potentially tired Senators team that will most likely have their backup netminder in there. If you are playing cash games McDavid should be the first player you pick and build around him.

Other than the Oilers, I will want to get exposure to a few others games on this slate. San Jose hosts the Blues on Monday night and that will be where I want to look first to build around any Oilers stacks. If Nathan MacKinnon ($8,900/$8,300) is out again, then I think I will have some love for Arizona. Another interesting game is Vegas in Minnesota which is carrying a 5.5 over/under which seems low to me.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

If you’ve read my articles this season or have been in discord you know I don’t like paying up for goalie so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that my two favorite goalies for Monday are Cal Petersen ($7,500/$7,100) on the road in Anaheim and then Darcy Kuemper ($7,100/$7,400) on the road in Colorado. Now, if we get word that MacKinnon is in, then I will come off Kuemper. If either of these goalies doesn’t start I am fine with switching to their backups. I am picking these two because of their matchup and ownership more than them personally.

If you don’t want to pay down in net, which I can definitely understand, I would look at Kuemper’s opponent on Monday, Philip Grubauer ($8,300/$8,300). Grubauer has won three of his last four starts and allowed just 4 goals in the three wins (five goals allowed in the one loss). If there is a downside to using Grubauer, it’s the fact that Colorado does not allow a ton of shots on goal and Arizona doesn’t shoot a lot (well below the league average).

Other Options: Marc-Andre Fluery ($8,100), Smith/Koskinen ($8,400/$7,800), Jordan Binnington ($8,200/$7,500) – As usual Binnington is a better FD play because of price.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

With a smaller slate like this ownership will be more condensed and we will need to find spots that may be ignored by the majority of players. Now, I don’t know that San Jose/St. Louis will be ignored, but I do believe they will be overlooked for the higher priced Oilers, Golden Knights, and potentially the Montreal Canadiens as well.

St. Louis @ San Jose

Vladimir Tarasenko ($4,200/$6,900) returned from injury on Saturday night and while he didn’t pick up any points he did manage 4 shots on goal. Tarasenko was minimum price on DK, but FD players weren’t as lucky. DraftKings did raise his price some, but he still a great play at $4.2K on Monday. As for FanDuel, he is priced high so he might be very low-owned on that site, which makes him a good play there as well. Tarasenko is playing on the Blues top line with Ryan O’Reilly ($6,100/$6,900) and Jordan Kyrou ($4,700/$4,500). I do like the line stack here, but I think I may prefer to pair him with one of either Brayden Schenn ($6,000/$6,400) or David Perron ($7,000/$7,100) with Torey Krug ($5,600/$5,300) for a power-play stack. San Jose’s penalty kill is in the bottom half of the league and the allow the 10th most power-play opportunities.

San Jose’s penalty kill isn’t the only bad one in this game, St Louis does not have a good penalty kill as well. The Blues allow the second-most penalties in the league and are ranked 25th in the league in penalty kill %. If you have the salary, the Sharks top unit is the way to go, but with a penalty kill as poor as the Blues, I like using the value on the second unit to get exposure to the Sharks but have the salary to pay up for the likes of McDavid and Rantanen.

I know when you look at the numbers they haven’t been producing as you’d want, but I think for their prices you don’t need much from them. My favorite play on that power-play unit is Rudolfs Balcers ($2,800/$3,300). Balcers has a goal and an assist in three games against St. Louis this season already as well as five shots on goal and 4 blocked shots. Mario Ferraro ($3,300/$3,700) plays the point on that second PP unit and has good numbers against the Blues as well this season. In five games Ferraro has 8 blocked shots, 5 shots on goal, and 2 assists. If Timo Meier sits again, John Leonard ($2,500/$3,500) should remain on line 2 in his spot.

Obviously the big teams to pay up for are teams like Edmonton, Colorado, Vegas, and Montreal, but I think people will sleep on this game and we could get some good plays at low ownership on Monday night

NHL DFS: Defensemen Rankings

Top Defensemen

  1. Jeff Petry (MTL)
  2. Jakob Chychrun (ARI) – INSANELY cheap on FD
  3. Shea Theodore (VGK)
  4. Thomas Chabot (OTT)
  5. Darnell Nurse (EDM)
  6. Brent Burns (SJ)
  7. Tory Krug (STL)
  8. Drew Doughty (LA)
  9. Samuel Girard (COL)
  10. Jonas Bordin/Matt Dumba (MIN)

Alec Martinez is great play, but is just stupid cheap on FanDuel. He is still a good DK play, but is just insanely cheap ($3,800) on FD. Pietrangelo should be out for Vegas on Monday which only makes Martinez an even better play.

Top Value Defensemen:

  1. Nicolas Hague (VGK)
  2. Erik Brannstrom (OTT)
  3. Cam Fowler (ANH)
  4. Matt Roy (LA)
  5. Radim Simek (SJ)
  6. Tyler Myers (VAN)
  7. Mikey Anderson (LA)
  8. Jacob MacDonald (COL)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night March 1st! Tonight is a big slate with 7 games on the schedule, and for a change we have a back loaded schedule with four games at 10pm eastern or later!

Monday’s slate features some of the league’s top players, but one player we are still waiting for information on his status is Auston Matthews ($9,000). Matthews missed Saturday’s game with Edmonton and while he did practice Sunday, he skated with the extra players and did not take any hard shots. It looks like, as of Sunday night, that Matthews is trending in the wrong direction and won’t be available for Monday’s game either. I will of course have updates on his status in discord on Monday though.

Monday night’s slate is shaping up to be a very high scoring slate with Vegas having four of the seven games with 6.5 over/under totals. There are two games I am most interested in though, Florida @ Carolina and Colorado @ San Jose.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

There are two goaltenders that stand out to me on this slate as top options and both are from the same game, St. Louis at Anaheim. Assuming both team’s number one goalies start we should see John Gibson ($7,300/$6,900) and Jordan Binnington ($8,000/$7,500) in net, that is if Binnington isn’t out there pretending to punch players and getting into fights with the opposing goalie again. Bininngton is actually priced in a spot on DraftKings where I feel comfortable to play him tonight and Gibson is ALWAYS in play for me.

After Binnington and Gibson, Connor Hellebuyck ($8,200 on both sites) is my next option in net. Hellebuyck has won three straight starts for Winnipeg and four of five. If you think Ottawa’s offense regresses some Monday (4 goals per game average in their last 5) then you could also consider David Rittich ($8,300 on both sites) a top option, but for me, I’d rather play some Ottawa skaters over Rittich.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Like I mentioned in the open, Florida @ Carolina and Colorado @ San Jose is where I want to focus. Starting with the Panthers who have recently shaken up their lines and put Jonathan Huberdeau ($5,500/$7,300) and Aleksander Barkov ($6,900/$7,500) back together on their top line. This line will be a great play in my opinion but they will potentially be higher owned. Since I feel Florida’s number one line will be popular, I’d rather look to use their second line for value. Patric Hornqvist ($6,000/$6,300) is still on line 2, but he does play with the top guys from line 1 on the first power-play unit. Both Frank Vatrano ($3,600/$3,900) and Alex Wennberg ($3,600/$4,500) play with Hornqvist on line two and on the second power-play unit. Aaron Ekblad ($5,200/$5,300) and Keith Yandle ($4,300/$4,600) play on the Panthers top power-play unit, but Anton Stralman ($2,800/$3,700) is a sneaky good play. Stralman is on power play 2 and has been playing well of late for his salary.

When it comes to Carolina, they are more straightforward forward with their second line being the focus of any builds I make involving them. I love how their second line, especially Vincent Trocheck ($5,600/$5,400). Trocheck has a goal in four of his last seven games and is averaging over 3 shots per game in that stretch. Trocheck’s linemate is one of the better plays for the Canes, but has been cold and is due for a big game, of course I mean Nino Niederreiter ($4,400/$4,800). I don’t love the Cane D and really don’t play them, with the exception of Hamilton, but Brett Pesce ($4,000/$4,100) has been hot with one goal and three assists in his last 5 games.

Looking at the late game of Colorado and San Jose they are both strictly one-line teams with maybe a fringe player or two. Obviously, Colorado’s top line is one of the best lines on this slate and pretty much every other slate they are on. San Jose’s top line has been really clicking of late as well and has combined for 10 goals and 9 assists in their last 5 games together. Logan Couture ($6,300/$7,800) is the star of that line right now and he should definitely be a focus of any Sharks stacks. Brent Burns ($6,800/$6,300) is the only defensemen from the Sharks I’d want to roster, especially on FanDuel where he seems cheap. Samuel Girard ($3,400/$5,100) is a good value play at the point on DK, but not so much on FD.

NHL DFS: Defensemen Rankings

Top Defensemen

  1. Alex Pietrangelo (VGK)
  2. Thomas Chabot (OTT)
  3. Shea Theodore (VGK)
  4. Darnell Nurse (EDM)
  5. Brent Burns (SJ)
  6. Devon Toews (COL)
  7. Matt Dumba (MIN)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Wednesday night February 24th and we have a five-game slate on tap!

Wednesday’s slate is practically a repeat of the slate we broke down for Monday night, but there are some differences. Toronto is still the highest projected scoring team on the slate. Their lineup isn’t ideal right now after a rash of injuries, but Auston Matthews ($9,000/$9,300) is still the hottest player in the NHL. Matthews is coming off one of his first bad games on the season and is due for a bounce-back game. On the other side of the ice from the Leafs is the Flames again, and if Frederick Andersen ($8,200/$8,700) is out and Hutchinson has to play then the Flames and Matthew Tkachuk ($6,100/$5,600) are a top play as well. Something to monitor on Wednesday is the status of the Rangers/Flyers game. There was some talk that this game could be postponed because of the Artemi Panarin situation, make sure you are in the discord for updates regarding that game

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

FanDuel’s utter disrespect for Jordan Binnington ($7,600) continues on Wednesday night. They did price him up a couple hundred from Monday but still it is just too easy to play him. I will personally be playing a stack of Los Angeles Kings against Binnington, and I will explain why later, but if you play FanDuel, not playing Binner is hard than playing him is.

As for DraftKings, I will once again be fading the top options in both Binnington ($8,300) and Philipp Grubauer ($8,500). They are both good options, with apparent easy games, but at those prices and against teams that are actually playing really well right now, I will take my chances elsewhere. As long as the Rangers/Flyers game is played, Carter Hart ($7,800/$7,900) against a Rangers team without their best player is my top option. Hart is coming off a bad game in Lake Tahoe against Boston, but before that Hart went 3-0-2 with 30.8 saves per game in his last 5 starts.

Other options: Darcy Kuemper ($8,000/$8,200), John Gibson ($7,400/$6,700), Calvin Petersen ($6,900)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Like on Monday night, Calgary/Toronto is the highest projected game, but you already know what we are looking at that for that game, so onto something different for Wednesday. Colorado is at home for Minnesota in what I think could be a high scoring game. Unfortunately, Colorado has decided to split up their top line recently and makes them a difficult team to stack. Luckily, they left the top power play unit in tact so we can stack that unit. If you want to make an Av’s stack obviously Nathan MacKinnon ($8,800/$8,600) is where you have to start. Both Mikko Rantanen ($7,300/$7,700) and Andre Burakovsky ($4,200/$4,500) play with Mac on the top line but you can replace Burakovsky with Gabriel Landeskog ($6,000/$6,300) or Cale Makar ($6,300/$6,000).

Kirill Kaprizov – Victor Rask – Mats Zuccarello

On the other side of this game, the Wild helped us to cash on Monday and we are going right back to them on Wednesday. Minnesota’s second line has been fire recently and we will use them as the top value line to pair with Colorado or Toronto. This 3 man line stack costs a combined $11K on Dk and $14.1K on FD.

Somewhat under the radar the Los Angeles Kings have been on an absolute tear. Over their last five games the Kings have gone 5-0-0 with 20 goals scored and just 6 goals allowed. They are coming of a 3-0 victory over the Blues on Monday where Dustin Brown ($4,800/$6,100) picked up 2 goals. LA’s top line is where I want to start if you have the salary, which features Brown, Anze Kopitar ($6,000/$7,400) and Alex Iafallo ($4,700/$4,900). If you need to use the Kings as a value stack their second line of Jeff Carter ($4,400), Gabriel Vilardi ($3,400/$3,300), and Adrian Kempe ($4,100/$4,400). On the point both Drew Doughty ($5,700/$6,300) and Mikey Anderson ($2,800/$3,800) are in play as well.

NHL DFS: Defensemen Rankings

Top Defensemen

  1. Ivan Provorov
  2. Cale Makar
  3. Drew Doughty
  4. Morgan Rielly
  5. Adam Fox
  6. Jacob Chychrun
  7. Devon Toews
  8. Justin Faulk
  9. Rasmus Andersson
  10. Matt Dumba

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night February 22nd and we have a big 8 game slate on tap!

After a strange weekend where we saw two outdoor games, one that had an 8 hour 5 on 3. Then the other game had 3 different start times leading to what I consider a failure on the NHL’s part with these Lake Tahoe games, we are back to 8 INDOOR game tonight. There is only one game currently showing a 6.5 O/U and that is Calgary @ Toronto, but there were two games that opened at 6.5 but have moved down. Both the Dallas @ Florida and Tampa Bay @ Carolina have moved from 6.5 to 5.5. What all that means is we are going to want to focus on that game first for our stacks, especially on the Toronto side.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Looking at the goalies on both sites for Monday and the first thing I notice is that FanDuel has no respect for Jordan Binnigton ($7,400). Binnigton is $1,100 more on DraftKings which makes him my number one play on FanDuel and a complete fade of the St. Louis goalie on DK. Switching to DraftKings now, both Chris Driedger ($7,700) and Andrei Vasilevskiy ($7,800) seem underpriced to me. I know both have tough matchups with Dallas for Florida, and Carolina for Tampa Bay. These were the two games I mentioned in the open that saw the lines move from 6.5 to 5.5, I am not sure why, but when a line moves in that direction Vegas is usually right. If Sergei Bobrovsky ($7,900) starts for Florida, then I would pass and focus on Vasilevskiy.

There is a goalie I am interested in and the price is right on both sites in my opinion. Kappo Kahkonen ($8,000/$7,700) is in a prime matchup in San Jose against a Sharks team that ranks 17th in goals for and has only scored more than 2 goals in a game four times in their last nine games.

Other options: Semyon Varlamov ($8,400/$8,100), John Gibson ($7,300/$6,700)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Like I mentioned in the open, Calgary and the Toronto Maple Leafs is the projected highest-scoring game on the slate. Auston Matthews ($9,000/$9,200) is the hottest thing going in the NHL and his price is reflecting that. Over his last five games, Matthews has 7 goals and 6 assists, with 4 goals and 2 assists coming on the power play. Calgary has one of the league’s worst penalty kills which makes this matchup even more appealing. Calgary ranks in the bottom third of the league in penalty kill %, allows the 7th most power-play goals, and has taken the 6th most penalties this season. Because of all of this, a Toronto Power Play stack is definitely my number one place to start when building lineups and Matthews has to be included in that.

On Calgary’s side of the ice, there isn’t much to like right now. Their top guys are not producing right now, but maybe this matchup with Toronto will break their slump. In their last 5 games, the Flames have been held to 1 goal in four of their last five. Elias Lindholm ($5,700/$6,100) averages the second-most minutes on ice for the Flames, which is rare for a forward. Because of that, I think that would be where I would start in a Flames stack. Calgary has shaken their lines up because of their anemic goal scoring of late, so Lindholm now centers line 2 with Johnny Gaudreau ($5,500/$7600) on his wing. Now, with how terrible his price is on FD, Gaudreau is only viable on DK. Either Andrew Mangiapane ($4,400/$4,700) or Matthew Tkachuk ($6,200/$5,400) are much better options to pair with Lindholm on FD as a power-play stack.

NHL DFS: Value Plays

With the high prices from Toronto, and the mid prices of Calgary we will need some value plays to make that fit. I mentioned in discord Sunday night that Anaheim called up Trevor Zegras ($2,500/$3,000) and he should be making his highly anticipated debut on Monday. Zegras dominated the World Juniors this year with 18 points in 7 games and then continued in the AHL this season with 9 points in just 8 games. In Sunday’s practice Zegras skated on the second line with Sam Steel ($3,200 both sites) and Jacob Silfverberg ($4,000/$5,100). It is anticipated he sees power play time as well.

Another value line I like on Monday night is Minnesota second line. Mats Zuccarello ($2,900/$3,900) has returned and in his first three games he has 1 goal and 2 assists. Zuccarello is playing with Karill Kaprizov ($4,400/$4,600) and Marcus Johansson ($2,800/$4,100). We will need to wait for an announcement about Johansson who did not play Saturday.

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night February 15th and we have a 9 game slate on tap!

Tonight is a rare big Monday slate, but even though it’s a big slate there is one team that will carry huge ownership. Toronto hosts Ottawa in what could be an absolute blow out game. Matt Murray ($6,900/$6,600) is listed as day to day for the Senators and if he misses another game Ottawa could be forced to use Marcus Hogberg ($6,900/$6,600) who has been terrible. Other than the Maple Leafs, Edmonton (vs WPG), Calgary (@VAN), NY Islander (@BUF), Dallas (vs NSH), and Chicago (@DET) also have goal projections over 3 for tonight.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Semyon Varlamov ($8,200) and the Islander are on the road against the Sabres tonight who haven’t played a hockey game in what seems like years (actually it’s been 15 days) so they may be a little rusty. Varly is coming off a big win (28 saves, 2 GA) over Buffalo on Saturday and has won 3 of his previous 4 starts allowing just 8 goals in those 4 games including a shutout of the Rangers. Buffalo was allowing 32 saves per game in their previous 5 games before their COVID break.

Obviously whoever starts for Toronto is an option, assuming that Frederick Andersen ($8,500/8,400) is the one who gets the start he will be a good high priced play if you can fit him. I don’t personally like playing goalies priced this high, but for cash games or if you have the salary he is a good pick.

If Jacob Markstrom ($7,900/$8,100) starts tonight against Vancouver he is probably my favorite play on the slate. Markstrom made 43 saves in a 3-1 loss to this team Saturday night. Vancouver leads the NHL in shots on goal (565) by a large margin but has one of the worst shot % in the league which should bode well for Markstrom. If David Rittich ($7,700/$8,100) gets the start instead he is a decent option on DK at his price, but way too expensive for my liking on FD.

Well, if I am writing an article and Anaheim is on the slate then you know John Gibson ($7,600/$6,800) will get a mention. Gibson and the Ducks are in San Jose tonight against the leagues 31st ranked offense. Gibson is an absolute lock for me at this price on FD (I might actually play on FD tonight just so I can play him there) and still a great option for $7.6K on DK. Anaheim ranks 10th in the league in shots allowed which means Gibby should see plenty of rubber tonight.

Other Options: Lankinen/Subban ($7,800/$7,400), Vasilevskiy ($8,300/$8,600), Khudobin ($8,100/$7,900)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Toronto Maple Leafs

As I mentioned on the open, Toronto is the team to stack tonight and their top line of Auston Matthews/Mitch Marner/Joe Thornton will probably garner the highest ownership on the slate. This line is the number one stack on the slate for obvious reasons, and I definitely want exposure to the Leafs but I want to find a way to be different. Some people may not realize Thornton is back tonight which should lower his ownership, but I would rather not play him personally, so I will look to the Leafs Dmen and secondary scoring.

Zach Hyman ($5,800/$5,000) is now on the second line with John Tavares and William Nylander but is not on PP2 with them. Both Ilya Mikheyev($3,700/$3,600) and Jason Spezza ($3,700/$3,500) are. In conclusion, if you are playing cash load up on the Leafs top line, but if you are in large field GPP’s look to their secondary players to get exposure to the potential highest scoring team on the slate but at lower ownership.

Defensemen in play: Morgan Rielly (PP1), TJ Brodie (PP2), Justin Holl, Jake Muzzin

Anaheim Ducks

Anaheim is a team that rarely ever gets used in NHL DFS, but tonight you should consider using the Ducks. San Jose has the third-worst team save % in the NHL and is in the middle of the pack in allowing shots on goal. Anaheim has scored 14 goals in their last 5 games, which is a huge increase from the 8 they scored in the 5 before that.

The Ducks 2nd line is the one I am interested in tonight with Max Comtois/Isac Lundestrom/Rickard Rakell. They are a cheap line stack that has been producing for their price. In their last five games, this combo has scored 5 goals, 4 assists, and taken 32 shots on goal. If you are playing two guys from this line I would recommend Comtois and Rakell with one of the PP dmen. Kevin Shattenkirk ($4,200/$3,900) is on the top PP unit that Rakell is on and Comtois and Lundestrom are with Cam Fowler ($3,300/$4,600) on PP2. If you are playing on FD, I would use ShattDueces and ignore Fowler’s horrendously high price.

Other Ducks to Consider: Troy Terry (PP2), Ryan Getzlaf (PP1)

Other Top Line Stacks:

  • Edmonton L1
  • Chicago L1 – VERY Expensive on DK, will probably be overlooked
  • Winnipeg L1
  • Tampa Bay L1
  • Columbus L1 – Patrik Laine is “cheap” on DK
  • Carolina L2
  • Dallas L1

Value Line Stacks:

  • Detroit L2
  • Florida L2
  • Calgary L2
  • Tampa Bay L2 – Formerly Tampa L3 we’ve been using
  • Vancouver L1
  • Ottawa L2
  • Chicago L2
  • NY Islanders L2

NHL DFS: Defensemen Rankings

Top Defensemen

  1. Victor Hedman (TB)
  2. Roman Josi (NSH)
  3. Darnell Nurse (EDM)
  4. Dougie Hamilton (CAR) – FD ONLY
  5. Seth Jones (CLS)
  6. Ryan Ellie (NSH)
  7. Jake Muzzin (TB)
  8. Tyson Barrie (EDM)
  9. Neal Pionk (WPG)
  10. Aaron Ekblad (FLA)

Top Value Defensemen

  1. Scott Mayfield (NYI)
  2. Jamie Oleksiak (DAL)
  3. Brett Pesce (CAR)
  4. Evan Bouchard (EDM) – PP2
  5. Nicolas Beaudin (CHI) – PP1
  6. David Savard (CLS)
  7. MacKenzie Weegar (FLA) – Plays with Ekblad on D pair 1
  8. Dante Fabbro (NSH) – PP2
  9. Nikita Zadorov (CHI)
  10. Dylan Demelo (WPG)

NHL DFS: Wrap Up

As I mentioned, Toronto is going to be where the ownership lands tonight but there are ways to get some Leafs in and be different. Both Edmonton and Chicago are also two teams that are good spots, Chicago over Edmonton in my opinion, as well as Tampa Bay. Anaheim has finally been scoring some goals of late and could be a small late-night hammer that could help you get a takedown if everything falls into place.

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night February 8th and we have a 6 game slate on tap!

Tonight we have a couple of games in the always high scoring NHL North Division for us to focus on with both Edmonton (@OTT) and Toronto (vs Van) open with 3.8 projected goal totals. Tampa Bay(@NSH) is 3rd with a 3.4 projected goal total. These are definitely three of the teams we want to focus on when building our stacks and should be the priority that you build your lineups around.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Jordan Binnington ($8,000/$7,600)

I rarely ever play Binnington, but tonight the top-end pickens are slim making him the best viable option on this slate. Binnington will be facing the Coyotes for the third time this season already and is 1-1 against them. Before losing to the Yotes on Thursday, Binnington had won 4 straight starts averaging 18.65 (DK) and 25.6 (FD) in those starts.

I also have a sleeper pick in net that should be low owned. Alex Nedeljkovic ($7,700/8,300) should get his first start of the season on Monday against Carolina. Nedeljkovic has outstanding AHL numbers and is one the Canes top prospects. He has started 6 NHL games in his career and has decent numbers with a 2.55 GAA and a .907 save %. Now looking at his price, he seems like a better option on DK but if you have the salary for a large field GPP, he could make you some money on FD because he will most like not get much ownership there.

Other Options: Frederick Andersen ($8,400/$8,100), Curtis McElhinney ($8,300/$8,300), Semyon Varlamov ($7,700/$7,700), Igor Shesterkin ($7,800/$7,300)

NHL DFS: Stacking Options

Top Line Stack:

St. Louis Blues Line 1

Now, the obvious top stacks are Toronto, Edmonton, and Tampa like I mentioned in the open but since I briefly mentioned that, I wanted to give a fourth, less expensive, option to build around. St. Louis changed up their lines some before their last game, taking Jordan Kyrou ($4,900/$4,300) off the top line and replacing him with Mike Hoffman ($4,700/$5,400). Kyrou is now on the Blues second line and while they are still a good secondary option, I prefer St. Louis’ top line of Hoffman, Ryan O’Reilly ($6,000/$6,200), and David Perron ($5,900/$6,300).

Top Line Stack Rankings (after the 4 mentioned above):

  1. Nashville 1
  2. NY Rangers 1
  3. Vancouver 1
  4. Carolina 1
  5. Columbus 1
  6. NY Islanders 1

Top Secondary/Value Stack

Tampa Bay Lightning 3rd Line

I have been playing this line a good amount lately with some success. Unfortunately only Yanni Gourde ($3,800/$4,400) plays power play minutes for Tampa, but both Barclay Goodrow ($2,700/$3,700) and Blake Coleman ($3,700/$4,400) see well over 15 minutes of ice time per game. Goodrow has points in three straight games (2 goals and 2 assists), and Coleman has assists in back to back games.

Secondary/Value stack rankings:

  1. NY Rangers 2
  2. Ottawa 1
  3. NY Islanders 2
  4. Tampa Bay 2
  5. Columbus 2
  6. Arizona 3

NHL DFS: Wrap Up

Obviously the top lines from Edmonton, Toronto, and Tampa Bay are the priorities and where I will start my builds from, but they are not the only options. If your research shows another top line can put up similar points there is no reason to pass over that line for one of those. You can instead make one of the “big 3” lines a secondary or 2 man stack and be different then the field. Build around a St. Louis or Rangers stack that will surely be lower owned and fit in pieces from Edmonton or Toronto. I also like the idea of fading Tampa Bay 1 for Tampa Bay 3 and mixing them with Edmonton or Toronto is definitely something I will look to do.
