Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Happy Monday everyone! After a long weekend full of NFL, turkey, and shopping let’s get back some of that money you laid out.

Tonight we have an appetizing four-game slate featuring a matchup of two of the league’s worst (Seattle @ Buffalo) and two of the league’s hottest teams (Pittsburgh @ Calgary). It’s an all Canada affair when Vancouver (2nd night of a back-to-back) travels to Montreal. And last, Arizona goes from the desert’s of the Southwest to the frozen lands of Winnipeg

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Tristan Jarry ( @ Calgary)

Right now there is no goalie hotter in the NHL than Tristan Jarry. Dating back to November 18th (5 starts), Jarry has allowed just two goals while earning himself three shutouts. Jarry is facing an average of 28.6 SOG per game and making an average of 28.2 saves per game during this stretch as well. During his five-game unbeaten streak, Jarry went into Toronto and shut them out and won at Winnipeg allowing just one goal. In his last game, Jarry shut out the rival New York Islanders. I am finally confident that Jarry is a top-end goalie in this league. Hopefully, he doesn’t decide tonight is the night to resort back to a pumpkin.

Seattle @ Buffalo

I like both goaltenders in this game, well only if Dustin Tokarski starts for Buffalo. At the same time, both offenses are in play. Tokarski has had a couple of solid starts back-to-back for the Sabres and should have another against Seattle who averages just 2.76 goals per game on the season. As for Philipp Grubauer, he could also have a great night for the Kraken in Buffalo. Before the 3-0 loss to Tampa on Friday, Grubauer has two great starts in a row. Grubauer won both games and stopped 35 and 37 shots in those starts. On a small slate, it is hard to be different and while I think both goalies in this game could be popular, it might just be the right way to go and find ways to be different with your skaters since the options will be more vast there.

Other Options: Jacob Markstrom ( vs Pitt), Jake Allen ( vs Van)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Ready to take flight:

Winnipeg has, on paper, the easiest matchup on this slate with Arizona coming into town. While they have been better of late, Winnipeg has one of the best top 6 in the league. We will need to wait and see what their lines look like after morning skate, but going off of the projected lines from Dailyfaceoff.com, I love both of their top two lines tonight. Kyle Connor projects as the top player on this slate and comes into tonight with 6 goals in his last 10 and is averaging nearly 5 shots on goal per game (4.9) during this stretch. Hopefully, he stays on the top line with Pierre-Luc Dubois who himself has seven points in the team’s last ten games while averaging 3.4 SOG per game. Evgeny Svechnikov is min price on DK and near min on FD and has three assists and 16 SOG in his last ten. His numbers aren’t as great as the other two, but he is someone whose salary makes it easier to fit other top players in your builds while getting time on a team’s top line. Line one is my preferred choice from the Jets, you can always run a line two stack, or go with a defenseman. Winnipeg has three min-priced (DK) dmen in Stanley/Dillon/Demelo who all block shots and occasionally get on the scoreboard, but Josh Morrissey might be my favorite play on the point for Winnipeg. He is way too cheap on DK($3.6K) and plays over 21 minutes per game. Morrissey also sees time on the Jets’ second PP unit with Dubois.

A new regime for Les Habitants!

Montreal cleaned out their top management on Sunday and will enter a new era starting Monday night. Even though this doesn’t directly affect the players we tend to see teams come out strong in their first game after a mid-season shakeup in the organization. Players know that the new regime could be looking to make some trades and move players so they want to show their worth and at home against a team coming off a loss last night is a spot to do it. Montreal put up 6 on Pittsburgh on Saturday, and could easily do the same on Monday night.

There is no place better to start on this team than with their top line of Tyler Toffoli, Christian Dvorak, and Josh Anderson. All three have been on fire in the Canadiens last five games totaling seven goals and eight assists combined. They are also a fairly inexpensive line on both sites. Toffoli has the highest salary of all three ($4.7/$5.3) and both Anderson and Dvorak come in under $4.5K on both FD and DK. Both Artturi Lehkonen and Cole Caufield have been playing well on the Habs’ third line, with Lehkonen being the better of the two. Lehkonen has three goals in his last five and is averaging over three shots on goal per game.

As for the defense, both Ben Chiarot and Sami Niku see time on the second PP unit with Dvorak, Anderson, and Caufield so they are in play. Niku is another min-priced dman on this slate who is in play and Chiarot himself is not expensive either. Jeff Petry plays on the top PP unit, but his production has not matched his salary lately but he can have a breakout game at any time, so if you are feeling lucky and want to take the risk, Petry is a good play.

Where else to look?

Some of the other options on this small slate that we can go tonight include in the late game, Pittsburgh at Calgary. I do think both goalies are in good spots, but I also think neither get a shutout.

If Bryan Rust is still out for Pittsburgh, then Evan Rodrigues presents some great value playing on the top line with Crosby and Guentzel as well as playing on the top PP unit with them and Jeff Carter and Kris Letang. Speaking of Carter, line two is also a solid play with him centering Kasperi Kapanen and Jason Zucker. Both Brian Dumoulin and John Marino are good value dmen.

Looking at Calgary, their top line is the obvious pay-up spot in this game, but you cannot sleep on the second line and goal-scoring extraordinaire Andrew Mangiapane. His salary is starting to creep up into the territory where we can’t play him anymore, but he is still viable for tonight. As are Mangiapane’s linemates, Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman. On defense, Noah Hanifin is a good mid-priced option, and both Erik Gudbranson and Chris Tanev make for good value plays.

If you aren’t playing Grubauer, then Buffalo’s top line is a good stack that might actually be low-owned tonight. Tage Thompson has been on fire as a goal-per-game player in his last five, but don’t sleep on both Dylan Cozens and Kyle Okposo from the Sabres third line either. Rasmus Dahlin is the pay-up dman from Buffalo, but I like both Mark Pysyk and Robert Hagg as cheap options from this team.

Mini Slate Tuesday!

We usually have huge 10-12 game slates on Tuesdays, but instead, we have a Monday-sized slate with just three games.

Even though it’s a small slate we have some really nice pay-up spots, namely the Edmonton Oilers. They are on the road in Dallas, which isn’t always an easy game. Calgary comes home from a long road trip to find the all of a sudden hot Chicago Blackhawks waiting for them. In the early game, we have the Flyers heading to the Sunshine State for Thanksgiving to Tampa!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

As strange as it sounds, all six spots seem like both great and terrible spots for goalies tonight at the same time. But, I did some digging and hopefully found a couple of goalies that can us into the green on Tuesday.

Jacob Markstrom (vs Chicago)

While the Hawks may be playing the best hockey they’ve played all season, they haven’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard. Chicago has won 5 of their last 6 but is only averaging 2.1 goals per game in that stretch while allowing just 1.8 goals per game. I expect this to be a low-scoring game on Tuesday and if Marc-Andre Fleury starts for Chicago he is my number two choice in net behind Markstrom. In his last six starts, Markstrom has allowed more than two goals once and has two shutouts. As for Fleury, he has not allowed more than two goals during his four-game win streak and is coming off a shutout of Vancouver himself. Since I build multiple lineups, I may have a couple of pieces from this game as far as skaters go, but I will have both goalies in this game for sure (if MAF starts).

** If Lankinen starts, load up on Calgary! Lankinen has allowed 18 goals in his last five starts and has only one win in that stretch. **

Carter Hart ( @ Tampa Bay)

Tampa can put up goals with the best of them, but they can also get shut down by good goaltending. Carter Hart is a good goaltender and even with this being a small slate, I could see him being slightly overlooked facing Tampa on the road. Philadelphia allows shots and allows them in bunches. In his last six starts, Hart has only seen less than 30 shots once, a 29 save shutout over Arizona. If you take that Arizona game out, in his last five starts Hart is seeing 35 shots goal per game and averaging 32.8 saves per game. Hart is cheap around the industry ($7.5K/$7.4K) which makes him an even more appealing play tonight.

Other Options: Stuart Skinner (@ Dallas)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

With this being a three-game slate, I will spare you the talk of building around Edmonton because you all know the drill. Try to fit Leon Draisaitl or Connor McDavid in with cheap pieces on defense like Cody Ceci or Duncan Keith. The real question is who can we play with any Oiler stacks. Well, their opponent seems like a good place to start.

Dallas Stars (vs Edmonton)

Edmonton is on the first night of a back-to-back so we will have to wait and see who starts in net as Skinner has been playing well in his last few starts. I will still have some interest in the Stars if he starts, but the matchup with Koskinen is much better. Either way, Dallas’ top line is where I would start. Roope Hintz is the highest-priced player on the entire line and his price doesn’t go over $6K (in fact he is $6K on FD). Hintz has been the best player on this line, especially over the last five games. In his last five, Hintz is a goal-per-game player and is averaging nearly three shots on goal per game. On his wings, both Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski have been equally as hot with five points and four points respectively in their last five as well. All three of these skaters are joined on the top power-play unit as well by defenseman John Klingberg, who himself is underpriced. Now, you can go Klingberg, but I will probably look at Ryan Suter and Esa Lindell on defense instead. Both are cheaper (by a lot on DK) and are outperforming Klingberg of late.

If you need a cheap two-man stack, Luke Glendening is a super cheap piece to pair with one of the cheap dmen. Unfortunately, he doesn’t play on either power-play unit and his minutes are only around 13 per game, but he has four points in his last five. Glendening is someone who will go completely overlooked on this slate and if he gets on the score sheet somehow he could be part of what gets you into the top half of the leaderboard.

Where’s the value?

Well, for one we can start where we left off, with Dallas. The Stars’ second line of Raffl/Benn/Gurianov has also been rolling but they are mainly a DK value line. This line comes in under $10K on DraftKings and while they have not been as productive as the top unit they can put up points. If you need the savings, then switch it up to Dallas 2.

If Lankinen starts, then Calgary 1 is the clear pivot off of the Edmonton chalk, but they may even be high owned on a small slate so I prefer to look at Calgary 2. All three of these guys have been playing well, but Andrew Mangiapane has been the man. Mangiapane has six goals in his last five and has 17 shots on goal. If you want to pair him up, I prefer to go with Mikael Backlund and Noah Hanifin (D) for a three-man stack.

Philadelphia 2 is another good value (on DK, FD seems too expensive) on Tuesday, specifically Claude Giroux and Derick Brassard. Both of these forwards have four points in their last five and both play on the top PP unit. Ivan Provorov is the dman for the PP with them, and while he has been good there may be better value. Both Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Sanheim have been more productive and even though they don’t see power-play time they are both logging over 20 minutes per game.

I haven’t mentioned Tampa, and it’s not because they are not a good play tonight, I just can’t find anything I want to use. They have some good pieces like Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman but they are super expensive. Anthony Cirelli is a decent mid-tier priced play along with linemate Alex Killorn and value play Mathieu Joseph.

Happy Monday!

First, I want to say thank you to all the readers out there who read my articles for both NASCAR and NHL since this is my 200th article for WinDaily Sports. I have written hundreds of articles before coming here but this is the best group of both content providers and subscribers that I have been around!

Now onto the reason, you’re all here, the six-game NHL slate. This is a rare larger Monday slate with the last few weeks only having 2-3 games each. This entire week is a little upside down with the Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S. on Thursday. Tuesday’s slate will be more like the Monday slates we’ve seen, so let’s dig in for this slate and keep our hot streak rolling!

This is a loaded back-end slate with only one game starting before 8 pm EST. Columbus is in Buffalo, who is coming off a heartbreaking loss with .4 seconds left against the Rangers on Sunday night. We should see Dustin Tokarski in net for the Sabres since Dell started Sunday. Tokarski had been the better goalie for Buffalo, but over the club’s last ten games he has been horrible. Columbus is going to be a spot where we can start our builds, but with both Colorado and Carolina playing later in the night we will have plenty of options when building on Monday.

Multiple Lineup Building

This is a slate where I will recommend building multiple lineups and going into the three entry max contests on DraftKings. There are plenty of different ways to build on this slate focusing on three core teams to build around like we did last Tuesday. We have five of the top 10 power-play units in the league on this slate and three of the worst penalty kills in the league as well.

Colorado is the top team for me on this slate at home against Ottawa. The Senators allow the second-most shots on goal per game, are 4th worst in goals against and have the 5th worst penalty kill in the league. Colorado is a top 10 power-play and also has the best shooting % in the league. This matchup shapes up to be a huge night for Colorado and that is where will start our builds. I will get more into the Avs later as well as my other two teams to build around, but let’s get into goalies!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Goaltending is tough tonight honestly. Some of the top plays have matchups that are not great for them fantasy-wise. Either because their salary doesn’t warrant their potential workload, or because they just won’t see enough shots to make value. But we have to play one, so here is where I am at.

Frederick Andersen ( @ San Jose)

Andersen is priced similarly on both sites ($8.0K/$8.4K) and could make value depending on his defense on Monday. Los Angeles peppered Andersen on Saturday with 43 shots allowing him to have a monster night even though he allowed four goals. Unfortunately, San Jose does not shoot the puck a lot as LA does. The Sharks rank towards the bottom of the league averaging just over 28 shots per game. On the positive, San Jose also has one of the worst shooting %s in the league at under 10%. Andersen is not in an outstanding spot, but for his price and matchup, we could do much worse on this slate.

Tristan Jarry @ Connor Hellebuyck

This is an odd occurrence, but I have an interest in both goaltenders from this game tonight. Both teams shoot the puck, a lot. Pittsburgh leads the league with 35.5 SOG per game and Winnipeg isn’t far behind with 32.06. Neither team is that prolific at putting the puck in the net this season with shooting %s under 10% for both, Pittsburgh being much worse at 8.28%. Jarry is coming off back-to-back shutouts so he could be due for a “letdown” but Winnipeg has only been averaging 3 goals per game in their last five and has only scored 3 goals in their last two games combined. Pittsburgh is starting to heat up with two straight wins and scoring eight goals in those two games. Jarry ($7.6/$7.5) would be my preference on both sites because of the potential win bonus and price, but Hellebuyck ($7.8/$8.1) is a great play as well if you have the salary.

Robin Lehner ( @ St. Louis)

I know a lot of people will probably end up wanting to play St. Louis, and I may even have some exposure myself, but Lehner does make sense from a fantasy aspect. St. Louis has been putrid over their last ten games, which is one reason I am on Lehner tonight. The Blues had a hot start to their season, but since the start of November they have lost seven of ten games, are scoring just 2.7 goals per game, and averaging 35.5 shots on goal. Lehner has also been seeing a lot of shots, only two games in his last ten has the Vegas netminder seen less than 33.

Other Options: Darcy Kuemper ( vs Ott), John Gibson (@ NSH)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Colorado Avalanche ( vs Ottawa)

I already mentioned a lot of reasons to love the Avs in the open, so I will keep this short. Play the Avalanche. There you go, you’re welcome

No, but seriously this matchup shapes up to be a huge fantasy night for a lot of players on this team. Both Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog are in play tonight, but they are going to set you back a huge amount of salary and they have been outproduced by the cheap second line over the Av’s last five games. The line of Nazem Kadri, Valerie Nichushkin, and Andre Burakovsky. Not only have they outproduced the first line, but all three cost less than both Rantanen and Landeskog combined. In their last five games, this line has eight of the Avs’ 24 goals with Burakovsky leading the way with five. Burakovsky and Kadri both play on the top power-play with Landeskog and Rantanen as well as Cale Makar. I will be rostering different members of this PP unit in almost all of my lineups, but I will switch out Makar for different defensemen depending on my salary needs.

Makar is the best option, but he is expensive. Devon Toews plays the most minutes and sees time on PP2 and the Pk, Erik Johnson is a shot-blocking machine and is also getting plenty of rubber on net as well giving him the peripheral points, and Samuel Girard is also on PP2 with Toews and has been good offensively of late.

Carolina Hurricanes ( @ San Jose)

I mentioned Seth Jarvis in discord on Saturday and he did not disappoint so I am mentioning him here again. Jarvis is seeing his price creep up slowly, but he is still super cheap for his output and the fact he skates on the top line. I love this play tonight paired with the high-priced Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov. You will have to decide whether you want Car1 or Col1 because there is no way to fit both, but you can fit them in with Col2 easily. You will just need to find a value stack to go with them and we have plenty of those. Jarvis has three goals in his last five, and Aho and Svech have benefited by scoring a combined three goals and seven assists in that stretch. If you wanted to add a defenseman to this stack, I would substitute Svechnikov out for either Tony DeAngelo or Jaccob Slavin. DeAngelo plays on the top PP with Aho while Slavin is on the second unit with Jarvis. Slavin sees over 5 minutes more ice time than DeAngelo and projects for almost the same point total at a much lower price on both sites. Brady Skjei is another defenseman who sees more time than DeAngelo and is cheaper than both he and Slavin you can consider.

Columbus Blue Jackets ( @ Buffalo)

Columbus is the third team I want to build around on Monday night and will probably be the lowest owned of the bunch. I don’t see the Blue Jackets being overly popular with teams like the Canes, Avs, Penguins, and Blues on the slate even though they are in Buffalo. Columbus’ top line is a great place to start any build, but if you are trying to fit this team in with the Canes and Avs then you will need to look at their second line. Cole Sillinger has cooled off of late, but he is still centering line 2 and the top power-play unit. Jakub Voracek is a nice piece to pair with Sillinger for a two-man stack and is way too cheap, especially on DK, for his point-per-game production over the team’s last five games. Lastly, Yegor Chinakov is near min price on both sites and is a good cheap play to make higher-priced stacks work.

I will still have exposure to the top line of Oliver Bjorkstrand, Gustav Nyquist, and Boone Jenner. Bjorkstrand is the only player on that line over $6K on either site so they are an affordable line as well. On defense, Zach Werenski is the top play, but he is expensive. If you need to save some salary, then both Jake Bean and Vladislav Gavrikov are the way to go from Columbus. Both of them block shots, get shots on goal, and have added assists over the club’s last five games. Neither sees PP time, but they are both averaging over 20 minutes of ice time so that is not an issue for me.

Value Stacks:

Even though I like Lehner tonight, St. Louis 3 pops out as a cheap stack that could be fruitful. I like using Brandon Saad with Ivan Barbashev as a two-man or add in a cheap dman like Marco Scandella for a full three-man. If you have the salary, then a PP1 stack of David Perron and Vladimir Tarasenko with Saad projects higher, but that is nearly double the salary of the 3rd line stack.

Pittsburgh’s second PP unit is another good cheap stack tonight. I know we try to stay on PP1’s but if you need the salary relief, Kasperi Kapanen skates on line 2 with Jeff Carter and is on the second unit. Both Danton Heinen and Evan Rodrigues are cheap pieces for a three-man stack. Both Jason Zucker and dman John Marino fit for this stack as well.

Any combination of Troy Terry/Adam Henrique/Ryan Getzlaf paired up with Cam Fowler make for a low-priced (relatively speaking) Anaheim 1 stack against Nashville tonight. This team is still hot and Nashville is not a team that should shut them down.

Vegas 1, Winnipeg 2, and Nashville 1 are mid-priced stacks that you can look at if you are going with multiple lineups and only use one of Carolina or Colorado in those builds.

Big Tuesday!

We are back at it with a massive 12..err… I mean, 11 game slate tonight (Ottawa vs. New Jersey was postponed because of the Senators having 10 players in COVID protocols.)

Outside of Edmonton and Washington, there are not too many must-play spots on this slate, or is there? I am really fond of one team tonight that may get lost in the shuffle with everyone wanting to pay up for the Caps and Oiler studs tonight.

In a rare feat tonight, eight out of the eleven games on the schedule have 5.5 over/under projections and there are zero 6.5’s. I find this odd because each of the teams in the top 10 in goals scored and the top 5 in G/GP is on this slate. Something I have been doing with some success when it comes to building lineups for large slates lately has been identifying three teams I want to focus all my builds around (having at least 2 in each) and then filling in with my value stacks. I will go over my core three below and then go into the value stacks/teams I want to use around them. Hopefully, this will help you get a path to success on Tuesday.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Jack Campbell (vs Nashville)

Campbell is the clear number one goalie for me on this slate. I may even use him in tournaments on Tuesday and break my rule of playing goalies over $8K. Campbells is near $9K on FD, but there is enough value on this slate to make up for it, even on his own team (more on that later). In his last five starts, Campbell has been nearly unbeatable. Campbell is allowing just 1.6 goals per game and making over 31 saves per game. Toronto is top 10 in the league in shots allowed, so we should see this trend continue tonight. Nashville is allowing over 18 DKFP per game in their last ten while only scoring 2.2 goals per game and taking nearly 32 shots per game. Everything sets up for Campbell to have a monster game on Tuesday.

Other Options: Jordan Binnington ( vs Arizona) – DO NOT USE IN GPP’s! Arizona has been putting up 3.6 G/GP in their last five and Binnington has been bad in his last two starts. This seems like a “get right” spot, but Arizona is averaging less than 30 SOG in that same 5 game stretch. Binnington seems safe for the win in this game and could easily make 25 saves and allow only 1 goal but the upside here is capped by the opponent. Jacob Markstrom ( @ Philadelphia) – Philly has made goalies look good lately by scoring just 2.5 goals per game and allowing 31 saves per game in their last 10.

GPP Goalies:

Anton Khudobin ( vs Detroit on the second night of a B2B)

Khudobin is risky because did not practice on Monday because he was sick (non-COVID) but should be available on Tuesday. Detroit has been friendly on goalies of late (except for Monday night) because they have been peppering the net with shots. Over their last five, the Wings’ have been averaging 35.4 shots on goal per game while scoring 3 goals per game. There is risk in this play, but unlike Binnington the upside with Khudobin is great.

UPDATE: Jake Oettinger is now the expected starter for Dallas. While I am not as high on him as I was Khudobin, I will have exposure to him in tournaments tonight.

Igor Shesterkin ( vs Montreal )

Shesterkin has been allowing goals over his past 5 starts, but he has been making plenty of saves to make up for that. Enter the Montreal Canadiens. Montreal does not score much (12 goals in their last 5) but they do shoot the puck, A LOT. Montreal is top 5 in the league in shots on goal and the Rangers are a sieve on defense allowing 33.6 SOG per game. Shesterkin is expensive on FD, so he is a DK play only for me, while Khudobin is super cheap on FD making him the better play there.

Other Options: John Gibson (vs Washington) – I still think people are sleeping on the Ducks and Washington will be popular making Gibson a perfect GPP play. Gibson is also cheap industry-wide. Juuse Saros (@ Toronto) – For the same reasons I like Gibson, I like Saros. I believe Toronto will be a popular team to stack ( I plan on stacking them myself) but they have shown they can lay a dud with the best of them. They are also another team who peppers the goalies, most shots on goal in the league this season. Ilya Sorokin ( @ Florida) – Cheaper than he should be tonight and might also get overlooked against the Panthers tonight. I went over his stats for Monday’s slate, but in short, he has been a brick wall lately.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

First, I want to say I will not be a full fade on Edmonton on Tuesday, but they are not a team I want to build around. I think there is enough value on the slate that we can fit one-off’s of Draisaitl or McDavid and pair them with cheaper options on defense or with guys like Kailer Yamamoto up front to make it work. I do on the other want to build around their opponent.

Winnipeg Jets (vs Edmonton)

Winnipeg has the highest projected goal total on this slate (3.8) and it is easy to see why. Edmonton has been allowing 4 goals per game in their last 10 and 32 shots on goal. It’s easy to see why Winnipeg carries such a high projected goal total now. The Jets are also an easy team to stack around as well with only Kyle Connor priced over $7K on either site. Combining all those factors makes them my top team to stack tonight. Andrew Copp has arguably been their best player of late with six assists in the team’s last five games to go along with eight SOG.

Copp skates on the top line with Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers who both started slowly but have been playing their best hockey recently for the Jets. Connor skates on line 2 with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Blake Wheeler, which is my preferred stack but either one should prove fruitful tonight. Lastly, this is not a team to look at power-play stacks. Edmonton has one of the stingiest penalty kills in the league, so stick to 5v5 lines.

Defenseman to pair (in order of preference): Neal Pionk, Nate Schmidt, Brendan Dillon, Logan Stanley

New York Rangers (vs Montreal)

Now let’s talk about the Rangers offense and potentially facing Sam Montembault tonight for the Canadiens. Jake Allen as of writing still listed as out with a concussion. If Montembault starts it will be all systems go with the Rangers tonight. Unlike with the Jets, I want plenty of exposure to the Rangers’ power-play tonight. In their last eight games, the Rangers have scored seven power-play goals and the Canadiens have allowed 17 power-play goals (2nd most in the league). Also unlike the Jets, this will be an expensive stack to build around, luckily we have plenty of value. Three players on this unit cost at or over $7k and Chris Kreider is in the mid to high $6K range.

I want to start my builds with Artemi Panarin who has five points in his last five games and has 14 shots on goal. The Bread Man is also the cheapest of the big three on this unit as well. After Panarin, we go to Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox. If you are using the Rangers as your top stack, those are the three must-haves for me. You can use Kreider to change it up if you are doing multiple lineups, as well you can with Ryan Strome who has been almost equally as hot as Panarin. Strome has a goal and four assists in his last five to go with his 13 SOG. I would sub out Zibanejad for Strome since he also skates with Panarin on L2. Kaapo Kakko has shown some good form lately with his only two points on the season coming in his last five games as he skates with Strome and Panarin on L2 and is min priced on DK.

Defenseman to pair with: Fox (already mentioned), Ryan Lindgren, Jacob Trouba

Toronto Maple Leafs ( vs Nashville)

As mentioned, I don’t mind throwing a dart with Saros tonight in large-field tournaments, but I prefer to stack the Leafs on this slate. Unfortunately, it appears the Leafs have put Nick Ritchie back on the top line and taken Ondrej Kase off that line. Kase had played well in his short stint besides Auston Matthews and unless we get news he will play there again tonight he is a non-factor. Instead, Ritchie becomes the Leafs’ value forward to use tonight. He will be seeing time with Matthews and Mitch Marner. Toronto is another expensive stack, like New York, that we can pair with the Jets and then find a two-man value stack to finish out our lineups. Toronto’s second line of John Tavares centering William Nylander and the value play of Alex Kerfoot is also in play.

Defenseman to pair with: Morgan Rielly, TJ Brodie

Value Stacks:

While the top of the Capitals lineup has been great, their 3rd line has been one of the hottest going over the last week. Both Daniel Sprong and Connor Sheary have put up points as well getting shots on goal. Sheary has points in back-to-back games and sees time on the top power-play. As for Sprong, he is coming off a multi-point game on Sunday. Both Martin Fehervary and Dmitry Orlov make for good cheaper defensemen plays as well.

Staying in that same game, Trevor Zegras is coming a 3 point game against Vancouver on Sunday and pairs nicely with Mason McTavish for a power-play 1 stack. Zegras also works with Nicolas Deslauriers or preferably (if you have the salary) Sonny Milano who has been the hottest player on this line. Another way to go is to stack the Duck’s top line of Adam Henrique, Ryan Getzlaf, and Troy Terry with the Jets and some other value. You can always swap out one of them (Henrique would be my choice) for a defenseman as well. Hampus Lindholm plays on power-play one, but both Cam Fowler and Jamie Drysdale make great options as well.

Buffalo PP1 with Jeff Skinner or Rasmus Asplund with Arttu Ruotsalainen. You can use a cheap defenseman for a 3 man or leave out a dman for a two-man. In that same game, the Penguins’ 2nd/3rd lines or PP2 can be used with the big lines above. Any combination of Evan Rodrigues, Jason Zucker, Kasperi Kapanen with either John Marino or Mike Matheson make for cheap two or three-man stacks. These five guys have contributed the bulk of the Pens offense the last two weeks or so.

Quick Hits:

Minnesota 3 is a good value line and if you have the salary. Both Matt Dumba and Jared Spurgeon are good pay up defensemen

Calgary PP2 has been really good for us lately with my favorite pieces being Andrew Mangiapane and Dillon Dube.

It is hard to sleep on the Carolina Hurricanes on any slate, especially tonight. Vegas has been better of late, but I still love stacking up the Canes. Anywhere from line 1 to line 3 works for me tonight. Jordan Staal and Jesper Fast work as cheap plays with upside as do Ethan Bear and Brady Skjei on defense.

Mini-Slate on a Monday

As is usual with Monday slates, this is a small slate with only two games on it. Since there are only two games on this slate, I will go over both games briefly and then give a little synopsis of the strategy I may apply to my lineups on Monday night

Both games start at 7 pm EST, so this slate will be over early, which is nice. In the “big” game, we have a rematch of a Stanley Cup semi-final when the Islanders traveling to Tampa to take on the defending two-time Stanley Cup Champions. In the second game on the slate, we have, well the exact opposite, two of the league’s bottom-dwellers in recent times with Detroit on the road in Columbus.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

New York Islanders @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Goalies:

DraftKings priced all four goalies on this slate under $8K which is nice. I think this could spread out ownership with my favorite goalie on the slate coming in at potentially the lowest ownership on the slate. Ilya Sorokin should get the start for the Islanders. Sorokin has been stellar this season with a .933 save %. Tampa is a good offense but they aren’t as scary without Kucherov in the lineup. I anticipate that we see both goalies in the other game as the popular plays but neither of those two is as talented as Sorokin. Andrei Vasilevskiy has been no slouch either this season, but I think the Islanders win this game so that limits the ceiling for Vasi. New York does shoot a lot, so there is plenty of upside in Vasilevskiy. In their last five games, the Islanders have averaged 33.2 shots on goal and are coming off a 42 shot output.

Skaters:

Both team’s top units will most likely be where people start their builds, especially if they using either of the goalies from the other game on this slate. I am interested in one of these lines more than the other, but to try and be different I may look elsewhere in this game, especially if you’re only building one lineup.

New York Islanders

I will start with the Islanders’ second line on Monday. Both Brock Nelson and Anthony Beauvillier have been hot of late and will cost you less than Barzal and Lee from line one. Nelson has five goals and an assist in his last five games to go along with 17 shots on goal. As for Beauvillier, he has a goal and three assists with 16 shots in the same five games. Now, there is a way to get line one exposure with these guys, and that is Zach Parise. Nelson centers the second power-play unit for the Isles with Parise. He has similar output as Kyle Palmieri but Parise’s price is substantially less, especially on DK (almost $2k difference). While Nelson is on PP2, Beauvillier sees time on the top unit. If you want to run a four-man stack (which I will do on this small of a slate), both Noah Dobson and Scott Mayfield would be the defenseman of choice. Lastly, Oliver Wahlstrom is another piece from New York that has been playing well. Wahlstrom has two goals and 16 shots on goal in his last five and sees time on the second power-play with Nelson and Parise.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Steven Stamkos is priced up on both sites on Monday, but we should have the salary to roster him, especially on DK. Stammer has not been the Lightning’s best player of late though, that distinction belongs to Brayden Point for me. Point will cost you between $700 and $1K less than Stamkos and has been more productive recently. In the club’s last ten games, Point has nearly a point per game (5 goals, 4 assists) and is averaging 2.3 shots per game. Point also sees a full minute more of ice time over Stamkos. Skating on the Lightning’s top line with Point is Ondrej Palat who has a goal and three assists in Tampa’s last five games. Anthony Cirelli is the last man on the top unit and he has four points in his last five. All three of these guys play with Stamkos and Victor Hedman on the top power-play unit and Cirelli sees time on the penalty kill as well. Outside of those five players, Ryan McDonagh and Jan Ruuta would be the only other two I would consider tonight.

Detroit Red Wings @ Columus Blue Jackets

Goalies:

Like I have said, I expect these goalies to be popular on Monday, so I prefer the goalies in the previous game. With that being said, I plan on building multiple lineups and will have some exposure to them. Detroit has been alternating goalies for the last few games, so this game should be Thomas Greissturn. Either way, Detroit has been getting great goaltending allowing two goals per game in their last four, and have won four of their last five. The Red Wings also have been allowing plenty of shots on goal, 34.2 per game, in their last five. Whoever starts for Detroit appears to be a solid option in net. I expect Elvis Merzlikins to get the start for Columbus on Monday and he has been nearly unbeatable at home this season. In six starts, Merzlikins is 5-1 with a 2.15 GAA and a .936 save % on home ice. In reality, all four goalies are good options on Monday, so it comes down to which site you are on and what stacks you want to run.

Skaters:

While I will focus on the top two lines for these teams with my builds, there are some players who offer some great upside for cheap. Some min-priced guys (DK) like Eric Robinson and Sean Kuraly (CBJ) and Sam Gagner (Det) are guys I will be considering. Vladislav Namestnikov is also a nice cheap play from Detroit to consider.

Detroit Red Wings

I want to start with the top line for Detroit when building lineups on Monday. All three of Tyler Bertuzzi, Dylan Larkin, and Lucas Raymond are great plays on this slate. This line has combined for seven goals and eight assists and thirty-eight shots on goal in the Wings’ last five games. FanDuel actually has Bertuzzi priced down, so he is the best option from this line there. Moritz Seider is my favorite defenseman from Detroit, and like Bertuzzi is way too cheap on FD. If you can’t afford Seider on DK, all three of Nick Leddy, Filip Hronek, and Danny DeKeyser make for great substitutes. My personal favorite is Hronek. Gagner and Hronek see time on power-play two for Detroit, while Seirder is on power-play one with the top line.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Similar to the Islanders, I want to stack the Blue Jackets’ second line over their top line. Now, there are pieces of the top line I will be using. Both Cole Sillinger and Jakub Voracek are inexpensive pieces from the top line I will pair with Zach Werenski or some pieces from line two for a power-play one stack. Oliver Bjorkstrand is a little overpriced, but he is the Blue Jackets’ best player right now and should be where you start your Columbus stacks. Bjorkstrand has two goals and four assists as well as seventeen shots on goal in his last five. Boone Jenner has four points and 20 shots on goal in his last five games and is the last piece for a power-play stack. Like with Detroit, Columbus has three other cheap d-men to use in place of Werenski to save salary. Jack Bean is the best of the bunch as he plays on the top pair with Werenski and sees over 22 minutes per game. Bean has three points and eleven blocked shots in his last five. Gavin Bayreuther and Vladislav Gavrikov are both cheap options I have an interest in. Gavrikov sees time on the penalty kill with Kuraly and Robinson which makes for an odd, but extremely low-owned stack.

NHL DFS: Final Word

This is an interesting but odd slate. My preferred build will be to run four Islanders with Sorkin in net and then pick pieces from the CBJ/Det game to pair with them. Usually, I try to deter people from playing four skaters from one team, but on a small slate like this, I change my build strategy. I will probably have some builds where I run one skater against my goalie. Again, this is a strategy never use on larger slates, but with only two games strategies are different.

Big Tuesday!

We are back at it with a massive 10 game slate on Tuesday!

I am going to start by just going over the teams that should be the core of your builds. With ten games on the slate, there are a few teams that you can count on as the base of your lineups, namely the Edmonton Oilers on the road in Detroit. When you talk Edmonton you have to talk about Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. I am sure I will have some exposure to both of these players in every one of my lineups on Tuesday. They are the premier players in the league and rarely have a down night. There are two other lines that I want to use as core teams to build around and they are the Boston Bruins versus the Ottawa Senators and the Calgary Flames hosting the San Jose Sharks. Both of these teams’ top lines are very much in play and can be considered pivots off the Oilers in large field GPP’s.

I find it hard to fade the Oilers in this matchup, so maybe one off a McDavid or Draisaitl with either of those line stacks. In cash, I would work to get pieces from all three of those lines into my builds in some way. It can be done, but you need to find some good value, and that is exactly what I am here for. Let’s get crackin’!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Jacob Markstrom (vs San Jose)

Markstrom has been the best goalie to start the season and I don’t see any reason why San Jose should give him a problem. San Jose has been averaging over 30 shots per game in their last five games while Markstrom has only been allowing 1.4 goals per game in his last 5 starts. Markstrom is expensive, but he is the top goalie on this slate and is a lock for cash games.

Other Options: Jeremy Swayman (vs Ottawa), Robin Lehner (vs Seattle)

GPP Goalies:

Mackenzie Blackwood (vs Florida)

I know, I know, we just stacked the crap out of Florida on Monday so why would be going against them on Tueday? Well, Florida shoots the puck, a lot! We saw them pepper Shesterkin with 45 shots on Monday night and even allowing 3 goals, he was the top scoring goalie on the slate because of this. Blackwood should be busy in net on Tuesday and he will also be pretty much unowned. I know this is a risky play, but that’s what we do for tournaments, take risk. On the season, Florida is allowing over 31 saves per game and Blackwood is averaging nearly 29 in his last 5 starts (1 start this season and his last 4 last season). Blackwood has only started one game so far this season because of injury but he is a talented young goaltender who could shut down a team on the back end of a road back-to-back.

Frederick Andersen (@ Tampa Bay)

Andersen has been the hottest goalie not named Markstrom this season, but he is coming off a disappointing game in his last start. Tampa is a no pushover, but Andersen should be up to the task on Tuesday. On the season, Andersen is allowing just 1.8 goals per game, and averaging 27.3 saves per game. Also, Andersen is averaging 19 DKFP per game in 2021-22, and for his cheap salary tonight that would be a nice point night.

Other Options: Cal Petersen (@ Montreal), Jake Allen (vs LA – B2B), John Gibson (@ Vancouver),

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

If you are paying up for some the big lines tonight that I mentioned in the open, we will need to find the value lines and one-off plays to fit in your lineups with them. Let’s take a look at who could be a nice fit with those big salaries

Game Stack anyone?

Now I already mentioned the Oilers in the open, but what about the Red Wings? This game has a 6.5 over/under on Tuesday, tied for the highest on the slate, so why not attack the game as a whole. Detroit has been up and down to start the season, but they are coming off back-to-back wins where they put up nine goals combined in those games. Koskinen is not a top end goalie and is prone to bad games, so stacking the Wings seems like a great option for tournaments. I do like the Red Wings top line, but they don’t fit the value play that we need to make an Edmonton stack work, but their second line does. Detroit’s second line has been playing well, and contributed in a big way in their aformentioned two wins. Pius Suter has been hot with back-to-back multi point games and racking up 11 shots on goal in those games. His wingers, Filip Zadina and Robby Fabbri have also been playing well. Fabbri picked a goal in the WIngs last game and has 13 shots over his last five. As for Zadina, he has a goal and two assists in his last five games. This line (ON DK) will only cost $10.6 which is super cheap and fits perfectly with those big salary line stacks. If you are looking to use a defensemen in place of one of the wingers, then I would suggest you go with Suter/Fabbri and Filip Hronek. Over his last five games, Hronek has four points and has nine blocked shots to go with six shots on goal. Hronek is also the only defensemen for the Wings who sees power-play time and penalty kill time which contribute to his over 23 minutes per game of ice time.

Canucks vs Ducks for the win!

For me, the Canucks make for a cheap late night hammer on this slate. They are at home versus an Anaheim team that ranks towards the bottom of the league in goals against. Anaheim has played just five road games but have been horrible in those games. The Ducks are 1-4 with 22 goals allowed in those five games. Because of this, Vancouver makes for a interesting stack spot tonight. Similarly to the Red Wings, I love their top line of Miller/Pettersson/Boeser, but that does support out need for value. If you can build a lineup you like with any combo of those guys with Quinn Hughes on defense, do it.

As for the value from Vancouver, their second line is where it’s at. Starting with Bo Horvat. Horvat is the expensive piece of this stack, but he is balanced out by his wingers, Nils Hoglander and Tanner Pearson. In his last five games, Horvat has a goal and four assist to go along with 16 shots on goal. Horvat also skates on the top power-play unit with the line one guys. Pearson and Hoglander have a goal and two assists in their last five with 23 shots on goal combined. Both of them play on the second power-play unit with Oliver Ekman-Larsson. My favorite play on this Canucks team tonight might be Travis Hamonic. In just three games this season Hamonic has an assist with four blocked shots. He is cheap industry wide and sees over 17 mins per game of ice time.

Where else can we find some value?

There are a few other spots for value on this slate:

Pittsburgh 2: Jason Zucker – Evan Rodrigues – Kasperi Kapanen (Mike Matheson or John Marino)

Los Angeles 2: Andreas Athanasiou – Phillip Danault – Alex Iafallo (Kale Clague or Tobias Bjornfoot)

Calgary 3: Milan Lucic – Dillon Dube – Andrew Mangiapane or you can use Mikael Backlund for cheap PP correlation (Dman: Chris Tanev or Noah Hanifin)

Brandon Saad is one of the hottest players in the league and makes for a inexpensive one off or two man with Marco Scandella or Colton Parayko (not cheap!)

Both Pittsburgh 1 and Chicago 1 are in play as mid priced line stacks and Anaheim 1 has been hot of late and is a line that will go completely overlooked on Tuesday.

Small slate Mondays are here again

Monday night is a small three-game slate, but it does not lack firepower. We have both the Capitals with The Great 8 and the Maple Leafs and Auston Matthews on this slate. Ovechkin and the Caps get the Buffalo Sabres who have come back down to earth recently losing four straight.

The New York Rangers return home after a long road trip that ended with them being trounced in two games in Alberta. They host the Florida Panthers who may be without Aleksander Barkov for a second straight game.

In the “late” game, Toronto hosts the LA Kings at 7:30 est. Los Angeles seems like a spot we would want to pick on, but this game may be low-scoring and a good spot to use a cheap goaltender.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Goaltender rankings:

  1. Jack Campbell (vs Los Angeles) : Campbell has bene on fire over his last four starts. During this stretch, Campbell is 4-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.23 GAA, and .960 save %. Now, LA is on a four game winning streak of their own but those were against three pretty bad teams and the Blues. During this winning streak LA has averaged 34 shots on goal.
  2. Spencer Knight (@ NY Rangers) : With Sergei Bobrovsky out, this is now Knight’s net. The Rangers offense has been hot and cold of late, but they are coming off being shutout by the Flames. Knight is 4-0-1 in his last five starts with a .918 save %. There is one downside to Knight, the Rangers do not shoot much. Over their last four the Rangers only average 22.5 shots on goal per game.
  3. Calvin Petersen (@ Toronto) : Petersen is cheap industry wide and has actually been on a great run of late for the Kings. In his last two starts, Petersen is 2-0-0 with a .922 sv% and a sub 2 goals against average. I know Toronto is the most potent offense he has seen in a while, but on a small slate where Toronto will probably be a popular team to play, Petersen could very well give you a distinct advantage.
  4. Ilya Samsonov (vs Buffalo) : Samsonov has not been great of late, but Buffalo has been terrible. The Sabres come in on a four game losing streak so the win bonus is definitely a possibility for Samsonov, or Vanecek, on Monday.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Pay the price for The Great Eight

Ovechkin is priced in McDavid territory on Monday, but with good reason. On the season, looking at DK fantasy points, Ovechkin’s lowest point total is 11.5 and he scored that night. Ovechkin has 10 goals and 18 points in just 11 games this season. Ovi has points in nine of his eleven games this season including six multi-point games. So, if I am hitting the lock button on Ovechkin tonight, who am I playing him with.

The obvious options are Tom Wilson and Evgeny Kuznetsov. I will not discourage you from playing those guys, but they are expensive and limit how many top guys from Florida and potentially Toronto you can roster. Instead, I like using Connor Sheary as a two-man PP1 stack. Buffalo has taken a lot of penalties so far this season, and during this losing streak, they are averaging three penalties per game. As far as defensive pairings for the Caps. John Carlson is the perceived obvious play and if you want to spend the salary then go for it, I m not. All three of Nick Jensen, Martin Fehervary, and Trevor van Riemsdyk are the way I’d go, again for salary relief. Buffalo has allowed 17 goals during their losing streak, this is why I have Washington as my top stack.

No Barkov? No problem!

Florida may be without their captain and best player, Aleksander Barkov, on Monday night. On Saturday night Florida slotted Eetu Luostarinen in for him. Luostarinen has been playing very well the last five games with all three of his goals coming over that last five. Another line one piece that has been hot is Anthony Duclair. Over the Panthers’ last five games, Duclair has four goals, four assists, and 13 shots on goal during his five-game point streak. Duclair is more of a DraftKings play as his price is still super cheap, unlike FanDuel.

Carter Verhaeghe is going to cost more, actually the same on both sites ($4,900), but he and Loustarinen play on PP2 together while Duke doesn’t see power-play time for the Cats. Now, if Barkov does play that changes up things slightly, but he is actually pretty cheap on DK ($6,100), so you can just slot him in over there. But, even if Barkov is back playing a two-man Luostarinen/Verhaeghe stack is perfectly ok. Adding either Gustav Forsling or Brandon Montour is a good way to complete your stack. Obviously, the usual Panthers like Huberdeau, Reinhart, Tippett, and Ekblad are all in play on Monday as well.

If you wanted to game stack here, which I can potentially see being fruitful, then the Rangers’ top line/power-play unit is the only place to go. They will be costly so you will have to either use the Panthers value or play Kings to make this work.

More value? Sure, why not!

As if I didn’t already find enough value for you on this slate, here’s more! Toronto and Los Angeles have the potential to be a low-scoring, 2-1 type of game. With the value I have already mentioned above you can easily run an Ovechkin/Matthews line. If you want to pay up for the line one stack from Washinton, then may I recommend going with John Tavares in place of Auston Matthews. Tavares has five goals and four assists in his last five games as well as 18 shots on goal.

If you need to save some salary, Alexander Kerfoot has been playing well of late with a goal and three assists in his last five as well. Of course, if you have the salary then there is always Mitch Marner. Morgan Rielly and TJ Brodie are probably my two favorite defensemen on the Leafs. Rielly is a PP1 play, and Brodie is a min priced dman who can block shots and occasionally get on the scoreboard

If you are looking to go against the potential chalk goalie in Campbell, which I will do in at least one lineup, then Los Angeles’ second line is where I would start. The combination of Iafallo/Danault/Kempe has combined for seven goals and nine assists in their last five games. Kale Clague correlates with Kempe on the top power-play unit where you can add Anze Kopitar or Arthur Kaliyev to complete that stack. Iafallo and Danault play together on the second unit, but I don’t want to play anyone else on that one. Tobias Bjornfoot is another solid, cheap, play on defense.

We are back at it on Tuesday with a large nine-game slate! After a chalky night with Connor McDavid and the Oilers on the slate, we have a different night on tap Tuesday. Ownership will be spread out so do not worry about that when building. There are plenty of spots that I will want to attack on this slate, but I can’t break them all down so I will focus on two or three like I do traditionally but also give a little mention to a few more. As always with morning skates happening after the article all these notes and lines are fluid and could be changed so make sure to check discord throughout the day for any changes.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Carter Hart (vs Arizona)

Hart is the highest-priced goalie on DK and second-highest priced on FD but he has the perceived easiest matchup. Arizona is dead last in the league with 13 goals for in nine games and has scored 1 goal or less in six of those games. Hart has not been outstanding this season, but he has looked good lately but just ran into a Calgary Flames buzzsaw, and the Oilers. The one downside to Arizona is they are so poor offensively they don’t get many shots on goal, which diminishes the upside of Hart. I do expect Hart to be the most popular goalie, which is why he is the cash game goalie and not listed under GPP options.

Other Options: Cam Talbot (vs Ott on a b2b), Jack Campbell (vs VGK)

GPP Goalies:

There are a plethora of options I like tonight for goaltenders in tournaments.

  1. Jacob Markstrom (vs NSH) : Markstrom has been on fire to start the season leading the league with three shutouts in just 6 starts. On both FD and DK Markstrom is under $8K which for me is too cheap for the hottest goalie in the league.
  2. Igor Shesterkin (@Van): Shesterkin has been outstanding early on in the season with four wins in his last five starts. During this five game stretch, Shesterkin has allowed a total of three goals in the four wins and has made 30 saves or more in four of the five as well. Vancouver is a team that can put up goals, but they are not a juggernaught and Igor should have another 30 save performance on Tuesday.
  3. Jake Allen (vs Det) : Allen is actually overpriced, but I believe that could keep his ownership down. I am breaking my own rule here by taking a goalie over $8K on DK ($7.6K on FD), but there is good reason. Allen has not been the reason Montreal has been so bad, they cannot score right now. No goalie has seen more shots (246) and made more saves (223) than Allen has this season. Detroit will once again be with Tyler Bertuzzi (unvaccinated) so that makes the Wings a bit worse offensively.
  4. Thomas Greiss (@MTL) : Neither site is giving Greiss any respect pricing him at $7.1K/$6.7K. Montreal is averaging 1.9 goals per game this season and have only scored more than 2 goals twice this season. One of those games was against Griess and the Wings, but that was an outlier this season and I expect a low scoring game from Montreal again on Tuesday.
  5. John Gibson (vs Anh) : Anaheim has been playing well to start the year and so has Gibson. The numbers are not great for Gibson, but he is one of the top goalies in the league and New Jersey is a poor offensive team that can be shutdown.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Unlike last night, I don’t see a must-play team on this slate, which is good. I like when there are options and not one team everyone builds around. There are a few teams that fit the bill to be a cornerstone team tonight though.

No howl from the Yotes

Arizona is bad like I already stated. Not only have they scored the least amount of goals in the league, but they have also allowed the most. Philadelphia is my top team to stack on this slate, as to no surprise of anyone. You can’t go wrong stacking either of the top two lines for Philly on Tuesday. Both lines have been on fire to start the season, and especially on the power-play. Arizona’s penalty kill has allowed at least one power-play goal in every game this season and allowed 2 goals three times. Both of the Flyers’ power-play lines consist of their top two even-strength lines.

L1 (PP1): Claude Giroux/Sean Couturier/Travis Konecny use Keith Yandle as PP defenseman ( I am not suggesting to play all four, pick 2-3 of these four players to stack). These four have combined for 9 power-play points.

L2 (PP2): Joel Farabee/Derick Brassard/Cam Atkinson use Rasmus Ristolainen or Ivan Provorov on defense

Are the Buffalo Sabres good?

Nobody, not even the Sabres, thought this team could do what they’ve done so far this season. Buffalo is tied for 12th in goals for and 4th in goals allowed. There are two drastically different ways to go with the Sabres tonight. If you want to pay up for the top Flyers line, then Buffalo offers some great value that fits perfectly with Philadelphia. Both Kyle Okposo (3 g 2 a) and Zemgus Girgensons (3 g 3 a) have been great value so far. They are both under $4K on DraftKings and just a little over $4K on FanDuel. Dylan Cozens makes for a good third forward to stack with these two as a PP2 stack. If you need a defenseman, then either Colin Miller or Jacob Bryson. Miller is the more expensive piece, but if you need to save some salary then Bryson is a great option.

Now, if you want to use the Flyers’ second unit, then the Sabres top line fits perfectly as well. Any combination of Tage Thompson/Rasmus Asplund/Victor Olofsson with Rasmus Dahlin on defense will leave you with plenty of salary to finish off your lineup however you please.

Let’s Go Wild!

Minnesota gets the Senators on the second night of a back-to-back on Tuesday. Ottawa was trounced by Chicago on Monday and I expect much of the same from the Wild. Minnesota has been rolling to start the season and there are a few options to fill out your remaining spots. If you are looking to pay up at forward with the Wild both Kevin Fiala and Kirill Kaprizov are solid options. If salary is an issue, then Ryan Hartman and his four goals would be a good cheaper option. Another good option on the cheap is Marcus Foligno (2 g 4 a) who is seeing time on the Wild’s top line and second power-play unit. Looking at defensemen both Matt Dumba and Jared Spurgeon are where I would go to finish out a Minnesota stack.

Other Line Stacks: (In not particular order)

Toronto Maple Leafs: L1 Michael Bunting/Auston Matthews/William Nylander w/Morgan Rielly (Def) Or Jason Spezza with Bunting for PP2 stack, L2 Alex Kerfoot/John Tavares/Mitch Marner w/Rasmus Sandin or Jake Muzzin.

Winnipeg Jets: L1 2-man of Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois w/Neal Pionk or Nate Schmidt (Def)

Calgary Flames: L1/PP1 (expensive) – Johnny Gaudreau/Elias Lindholm/Rasmus Andersson, PP2: Dillon Dube/Andrew Mangiapane w/Oliver Kylington (def)

New York Rangers: Any good Rangers stack starts with Adam Fox. Stack him with Mika Zibanejad/Chris Kreider/Artemi Panarin (2 of those 3)

Anaheim Ducks: L2 Trevor Zegras/Sonny Milano/Adam Henrique w/Kevin Shattenkirk (Def), PP1 Zegra/Troy Terry/Ryan Getzlaf w/Jamie Drysdale (def)

1…2…3 game slate on tap!

We are looking at a small three-game slate on Monday night, but while this is a small slate I like it. There is going to be the one obvious spot that no matter what type of contests you play you will have to have exposure to, but I will show you ways to be different around the chalk. If you weren’t already able to figure it out, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are the chalk spot on the night. I will have some type of exposure to McDavid and the Oilers in every lineup I build on Monday. Edmonton gets the Seattle Kraken on the second night of a back-to-back on Monday. Also on the slate are the despicable Chicago Blackhawks hosting Ottawa and Washington traveling to Tampa.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Mikko Koskinen vs Seattle

Koskinen is the ONLY option in net if you are playing cash on this slate. I don’t see any other of the five goalies being safe enough to consider for cash. In his last five starts, Koskinen is 4-1 with a 2.00 GAA and a .937 save %. Seattle has been improving offensively as the team gels but they aren’t a team to be afraid of at this point. With such a small slate you can use Koskinen for GPP’s as well, but just know he will probably be the highest owned goalie on the slate.

GPP Goalies:

Ottawa Senators Goalie

I hope that Filip Gustavsson gets the start for the Senators as he has been their best netminder this season. Gustavsson has started three games for Ottawa this season and he has been great in two starts but did have one dud. In his two great games (both against Dallas), Gustavsson has a 1.50 GAA and .957 save % with two wins. If Anton Forsberg starts it will be a much riskier play, but I might still roll with him because Chicago has been so bad. Both Andrei Vasilevskiy and whoever starts for the Capitals would probably be better options. I would lean more towards Vasi in this case as the home goalie and with the better team in front of him.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

After you plug your Oilers into your roster you will need to fill the rest out, unfortunately.

The Lightning brings the thunder!

Both teams in the Capitals/Lightning game are dealing with injuries, but the difference is that Tampa’s secondary scoring is stepping up while Washington’s is not. One player who is having a breakout campaign this year is Alex Killorn. So far in the 2021-22 season, Killorn is second on the team in points (9) and leads the Lightning in goals (6) in eight games. Killorn is also averaging two shots on goal per game. Killorn is still inexpensive on both sites and can be used with high-priced Oilers easily. To make a Tampa stack, I love using Steven Stamkos for a power-play stack. Yes, Stamkos is expensive, but there are some great options on the point for both Tampa and Edmonton that you can get great value with. One of those defensemen is Ryan McDonagh who is $4K or less on both DK and FD. McDonagh does not see PP time, but even without that he still plays over 22 minutes per game. McDonagh does a lot on the ice, he will take shots, block shots, and occasionally get on the scoreboard (four points in 8 games).

Other Tampa Options: Erik Cernak (Def), Anthony Cirelli (W), Ondrej Palat (W)

Northern Light-ing up the scoreboard

Ottawa is the perfect cheap team to pair with our high-priced Tampa and Edmonton stacks. Chris Tierney is one of the top options from Ottawa. Tierney is tied for second (Drake Batherson) on the Senators with four goals and is seeing time on the teams’ second PP unit. Chicago has allowed four power-play goals in their last five games so adding a Connor Brown or Tyler Ennis with Tierney makes a cheap power-play stack. If you need a defenseman from Ottawa, Artem Zub would be the play with the PP2 stack. Both Nikita Zaitsev and Nick Holden are cheap options to use in place of Zub. Holden and Zaitsev block a good amount of shots and will occasionally get on the scoreboard.

Other Ottawa Options: Josh Norris (C), Brady Tkachuk (W – L1 stack with Norris), Drake Batherosn (L1 stack)

Other line stack options:

Chicago PP1: Seth Jones/Jonathan Toews/Alex DeBrincat

Washington Line 1: Alex Ovechkin/Evgeny Kuznetsov/Tom Wilson or Martin Fehervary or Trevor van Riemsdyk (Def)

Seattle Line 2: Brandon Tanev/Yanni Gourde/Vince Dunn or Adam Larasson (Def)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Tonight is an unusually small slate for a Tuesday night with only seven games When looking over the slate it appears that the goals will come from the early games. In the first half of the night (prior to 10 pm eastern) all four games carry a 6 or higher projected goal total, while all three 10 pm games have 5 1/2 over/under.

We have a couple of teams on the second night of a back-to-back on the road. Both Tampa Bay and Calgary are playing their second game in as many nights and both could be places to attack with lower-owned teams in Pittsburgh and New Jersey. I expect Colorado to carry the bulk of the ownership on this slate getting the downtrodden Vegas Golden Knights.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Connor Hellebuyck ($8,300)

After a rough start to the season, Hellebuyck has turned it around the last two games, one of which was against the same Anaheim team he faces on Tuesday. Hellebuyck has won two straight starts stopping 64 of 69 shots. Despite beating the Jets earlier this season, Anaheim has only won once since then and was beaten by these Jets last week. Hellebuyck is not going to be in my lineups on Tuesday, but I do not play cash games, but if you do, Hellebuyck is the safest play on the slate.

Other Options: Darcy Kuemper (vs VGK), Cam Talbot (at Van)

GPP Goalies:

Tristan Jarry ($7.2K/$7.9K)

Jarry is off to a surprisingly great start this season going 3-0-1 in his first four starts and only allowing six goals in those games. On opening night, Jarry and Pens beat this Lightning team and Tampa hasn’t really recovered since. Tampa Bay is coming off a loss to the Sabres on Monday and has lost four of their first six and three straight. Could Tampa show up on Tuesday and put up a 6 spot, of course, but will they, doubtful. If you have been in discord this season you know how I love low-priced goalies, and Jarry fits that bill on Tuesday.

Other Options: Philipp Grubauer (vs MTL), James Reimer (at NSH), John Gibson (vs Winnipeg)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

I mentioned in the open, Colorado is the number one place to go but for tournaments, I would look to go with the Av’s secondary scoring from their second and third lines. Tampa Bay is another spot you can go to for cash games, but in GPP’s they are a fade for me, especially in teams I am using Jarry.

On Tuesdays, we play Forsberg!

It’s Tuesday, so that means it’s Filip Forsberg day. This is a long-standing joke because, for a while, Forsberg scored on every Tuesday game. That is no longer the case, but in this matchup with San Jose, I think we get production out of Forsberg and his linemates. San Jose is averaging over five penalties taken per game, and the Nashville power-play has been firing early on.

This stack will not be cheap, with both Forsberg and Josi being priced over $7K on DK and over $6K on FD. Outside of those two, the rest of this stack can be had pretty cheap on both sites allowing you room to pay up elsewhere. If you use the three highest-priced pieces (Josi, Forsberg, Johansen) on DK with Jarry you have over $4.5K per player left which is plenty to build a solid lineup.

Looking for value? Head to the Garden State!

With the Flames on the second night of a back-to-back and their third game in four nights, I think New Jersey could be a great spot for value on Tuesday. With the exception of Dougie Hamilton and Nico Hischier, the majority of the players we’d want to use are all around $4K and under. New Jersey’s top line is in play with Hischier centering Janne Kuokkanen and Yegor Sharangovich, but it’s their second line that could be under 2% owned on Tuesday. Dawson Mercer centering Tomas Tatar and Pavel Zacha is an inexpensive stack. Tatar and Zacha see time with Hiscier and Hamilton on the top PP unit, while Mercer and Sharangovich are on the second PP unit with P.K. Subban and Ty Smith.

Other Potential Stacks:

I have already mentioned the Avalanche top line a few times and they are the overall top stack, and if you want to run them with value like the Devils mentioned above, or the top two lines from Seattle that would be where I would go.

First Lines: Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild

Other Lines: Colorado 2nd and 3rd, Minnesota 2nd, Pittsburgh 3rd, and PP1, Tampa Bay 2
