Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Another smal slate Monday

This week we have a three-game slate on Monday night featuring a few of the best line stacks in the league. Monday’s first game, Boston @ Washington is the premier matchup on the slate. After that game, we have Seattle traveling to Colorado in what should ( I emphasize SHOULD) be a pretty cut and dry win for the Avs. In the late start, the Rangers are in Los Angeles to tangle with the Kings.

All of these games are intriguing fantasy-wise and I believe ownership should be spread out because of the variety of high-priced stacks. For me, there is only one goalie on this slate that has the upside we want in our goalies.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Alexander Georgiev ( @ Los Angeles)

Last week in this same spot I told you I did not want to play Georgiev, but a week later he is the best option. Los Angeles is a team that we know shoots the puck, a lot. They are top 5 in the league in shots on goal while ranking 23rd in goals scored. I know they have picked up six goals and four goals in two of their last three games, but those were against Philadelphia and Detroit, two of the league’s worst teams defensively. The Rangers also allow a good amount of shots on goal per game themselves, 32.0, but have had great goaltending, especially this past week. In their last four games, New York has allowed 1 goal or less three times. Two of those games were against Tampa Bay and Edmonton, two of the highest-scoring offenses in the NHL.

Other Options: Darcy Kuemper ( vs Seattle), Jeremy Swayman/Linus Ullmark ( @ Washington)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Colorado Avalanche

Whenever you talk about playing Colorado, the obvious line stack is going to be the top line and it’s no different on Monday. On a small slate like this in the perceived easiest matchup, I would expect this line to be the highest owned stack on the slate.

One way to get different would be to use either Cale Makar or Nazem Kadri in place of MacKinnon (the highest-priced skater on the slate). Kadri has been one of the biggest surprises this season and is currently riding an 11 game point-scoring streak. During this streak, Kadri has 5 goals and 14 assists as well as averaging 3.27 shots on goal per game. One thing to note about Kadri, a PP stack including him does not seem like the way to go. While he has been hot, he has only 2 power-play points during his 11 game streak. Because of this my preference will be to stack Kadri/Makar with Logan O’Connor. Yes, I prefer O’Connor over Burakovsky right now. O’Connor has more shots on goal, blocked shots, and is averaging more ice time then Burkovsky over the Avs last five games. Other Def plays: Samuel Girard, Erik Johnson.

New York Rangers

After losing four of five the Rangers have now won four of their last five and have scored four goals in each of their wins. On top of playing some of their best hockey of the season, the Rangers will also be getting Artemi Panarin back in the lineup. Panarin missed four games due to COVID but is expected back on Monday night. Panarin is priced cheap at $5.9K on Monday and I will assume he slots back into his spot on the second line with Ryan Strome and most likely Barclay Goodrow. If that is the way the Rangers choose to play Bread Man, then this stack is cheap ($12.9K) and one of my favorites on the slate.

Goodrow is $2.8K on DK and has six points in his last five games (3 goals, 3 assists) which are the two reasons I hope he stays on line 2. Obviously the top line is in play for the Rangers, but that is the way I believe most people will go. Adam Fox is ONLY $5.8K on DK on Monday which basically screams play him! After Fox, Jacob Trouba is $4.4K and has hit the SOG or blocked shot bonus in each of the last three games. Ryan Lindgren is probably the best cheap option for the Rangers. Lindgren is coming off a two-goal game on Saturday but he does more than put up real points (only 7 in 33 games), he will also block shots and take shots.

Best of the rest

Boston Bruins L2: David Pastrnak/Erik Haula/Taylor Hall: This line is clicking and has combined for six goals and seven assists in their last five. (Fav Dmen to use: Matt Grzelcyk, Mike Reilly)

Seattle Kraken L2/PP: Calle Jarnkrok/Yanni Gourde/Ryan Donato: I like mixing Donato in to a L2 mini stack in place of Blackwell. Donato has three goals in his last five and plays with Gourde on the second PP unit. Jarnkrok is the Kraken’s hottest skater and has five points in his last five and plays on the top PP unit. (Fav Dmen to use: Carson Soucy, Vince Dunn)

Los Angeles Kings L2: Trevor Moore/Phillip Danault/Viktor Arvidsson: Good cheap pivot if you are fading Georgiev. This line has been outplaying their top line and comes in under $12K. (Fav Dmen to use: Drew Doughty, Sean Durzi)

Washington Capitals L1: Alex Ovechkin/Evgeny Kuznetsov/Tom Wilson: Expensive and they’ve been ice cold, but you could say they’e due for a big game. (Fav Dmen to use: John Carlson, Trevor van Riemsdyk)

On Tuesdays we play Forsberg!

Usually, I don’t start off my articles talking about a player, but Filip Forsberg is one of the hottest players in the league right now. In his last five games, Forsberg has seven points (4 goals 3 assists) and is in a matchup with Vegas who is coming off a game with Winnipeg where they gave up five goals. Forsberg is also underpriced on DK in my opinion at $6.5K as well, on FanDuel he is priced appropriately at $7.5K I think. There are a lot of spots to pay up for on this slate, but spending some salary on a Forsberg/Josi mini-stack might be one of the best spots. If you want to go cheaper, Alexander Carrier is a solid cheap D punt but also using the Preds top line of Forsberg, Matt Duchene, and Mikael Granlund works too.

Elsewhere on this slate, we have Colorado in a matchup with Chicago where they could easily put up 5 or 6 goals. Tampa Bay is in Columbus with Joonas Korpisalo returning after from injury and he has been bad, especially against Tampa in his career. Korp has a 2-4-1 record with an abysmal .885 save % and 3.65 GAA. With there being a lot of high-priced stacks we want to play, we need to find value and on this eight-game slate, there is plenty to be had! Let’s get into the plays!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

John Gibson ( vs Philadelphia)

Gibson has a home matchup with one of the worst offenses in the league (sorry Jon Love, but it’s true haha) and he is coming off three straight strong performances. Anaheim lost their last game to Colorado, but Gibson stopped 32 of 35 shots in that game. Prior to that game, Gibson had two more great games, both in losses as well. Gibson hit the 35+ plus save bonus in both (DK) stopping 42 and 35 shots. Philadephia is in the middle of the pack in shots on goal (31.19 per game) and Anaheim allows 32.3 per game. Philly also ranks 26th in goals for (2.66 P/G). You all know by now I take any chance I can get to write up Gibby, but tonight it isn’t my biased that led me here, the numbers did.

Juuse Saros ( @ Vegas)

Vegas is one of the top offenses in the league, but without their top two players in Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone in the lineup, it makes them a lot less worrisome. Saros has been solid in his last five averaging over 30 saves per game and allowing just 1.8 goals per game. Another reason Saros is so high on my list for Tuesday is his salary. With Vegas being shorthanded and based on his recent performances I expected Saros to be priced higher industry-wide, but he isn’t.

Other Options: Andrei Vasilevskiy ( @ Columbus), Darcy Kuemper ( @ Chicago), Carter Hart ( @ Anaheim – if Zegras and Getzlaf are still out), Jacob Markstrom (@ Florida)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Colorado Avalanche

There is a chance that Marc-Andre Fleury is back in net for the Blackhawks on Tuesday, but that doesn’t change how I feel about the Avs. Colorado has the three top projected players tonight in Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Nazim Kadri. These three will cost you a pretty penny, but there is enough value on this slate to make it work. This is a power-play stack that is up against the 27th ranked penalty kill from Chicago. Cale Makar and Gabriel Landeskog make up the rest of that unit. There are plenty of ways to get different with Colorado outside of this unit. Using Kadri with Makar and either Andrei Burakovsky or JT Compher as a line 2 stack is one way to be different. On defense, other than Makar, Devon Toews and Samuel Girard are cheaper options.

Boston Bruins

Colorado is the obvious top stack, and yeah I did mention Tampa in the open, but Boston could be completely overlooked and come in at very low ownership on this slate. Boston has done their annual mid-season line shuffling and moved David Pastrnak to the second line and moved Craig Smith to the top line. Smith has been performing well of late and is cheap. Using Smith with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand makes this stack much easier to use. New Jersey has allowed nearly four goals per game in their last five so Boston should have no problem getting on the board tonight.

There is some other value with Boston as well. The Bruins’ third line of Jake DeBrusk, Charlie Coyle, and Nick Foligno makes for a good value stack. You can also go with Pasta and his new linemates, Erik Haula and Taylor Hall but I would prefer the third line for the savings.

On defense, Charlie McAvoy is the Bruins’ best option but he is expensive. All three of Brandon Carlo, Matt Grzelcyk, and Mike Reilly are all over $2K less than McAvoy but can, on a good night, match his production.

Top Value Stack:

Nashville Predators

I know I already talked a lot about Nashville in the open, but they are really one of my favorite teams on this slate, and their third line is a tremendous value. Forsberg is one of the hottest players in the league, then Tanner Jeannot might be the next hottest player. Jeannot has ten points in his last ten games with five goals and five assists and is coming off of a two-goal game on Saturday. Jeannot skates with Colton Sisson and Yakov Trenin who have eight points and five points respectively in their last ten.

Other Value Options:

  • Florida PP2: Anton Lundell/Frank Vatrano/Brandon Montour
  • Detroit 2: Rabby Fabbri/Pius Suter/Filip Zadina
  • Columbus 1: Patrik Laine/Cole Sillinger/Jakub Voracek
  • Calgary 3: Andrew Mangiapane/Dillon Dube/Milan Lucic
  • San Jose 2: Jonathan Dahlen/Toma Hertl/Noah Gregor
Don’t sleep on these stacks:

Calgary 1: Johnny Gaudreau/Elias Lindholm/Matthew Tkachuk

Florida 2: Jonathan Huberdeau/Anton Lundell/Anthony Duclair

New Jersey 1: Yegor Sharangovich/Jack Hughes/Jesper Bratt

Winnipeg 1: Paul Stastny/Mark Scheifele/Nikolaj Ehlers

Vegas 1: Jonathan Marchessault/William Karlsson/Reilly Smith

Detroit 1: Lucas Raymond/Dylan Larkin/Tyler Bertuzzi

San Jose 1: Alexander Barabanov/Logan Couture/Timo Meier

Value defenseman:

Jacob Middleton (SJ), Jake McCabe (Chi), Adam Boqvist (CBJ – Should see a big uptick in minutes with Werenski out), Noah Hanifin (Cgy), Jonas Siegenthaler (NJ)

Monday Night Showdown

Edmonton continues its trip through the Tri-State area here on the East Coast with a visit to Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers. This game seems like the type of game where we ignore goaltending and just stack up the skaters. Let’s just get into it!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

None

No, really, I don’t think playing either goalie who starts is worth it on this slate. If you want to be different and take a chance on Alexander Georgiev, I get it. Edmonton shoots a lot, so the save bonus is a possibility on DK.

Now there is a caveat here. If Edmonton elects to go with Stuart Skinner in net then I have some interest on DK because of his salary. DraftKings priced him at $5,000, which is the minimum price for goalies on showdowns. Skinner could be worth a shot for the potential bonuses and his cheap price which allows some of the high-priced players in your lineups. This is a possibility because Mike Smith is potentially out injured again for the Oilers.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are the top plays on this slate, but to fit them with the top Rangers, like Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, and Chris Kreider we need to find some value.

Kailer Yamamoto: Yamamoto is back in the good graces of Dave Tippett and is on the Oilers’ second line with Draisaitl and Devin Shore (a decent GPP punt). As well as playing on line 2, Yamamoto is skating on the team’s top PP unit. In his last four games, Yamamoto has five points.

Dryden Hunt: Hunt has only one point this season, but he is a cheap option that will get you the top guys you want. Hunt is not totally useless, he can pick up a couple of shots on goal and blocked shots.

Libor Hajek: Similar to Hunt, Hajek is not going to light up the score sheet with real points, but he can be a great punt play. Hajek does have an assist in his last five, but he is more likely to pick up a few shots or blocked shots. I don’t love this play, but Hajek has the most upside in the $2K price range that will allow you to get McDavid/Draisaitl/Yamamoto with two of the top Rangers.

Quik Hits:

Jesse Puljujarvi/Zach Hyman: Both play on Line 1 with McDavid making them good mid-tier options.

Ryan Strome: Strome has two goals and three assists in his last six games. Strome also centers the Rangers’ top PP unit.

Barclay Goodrow: Goodrow has two goals and an assist in the Rangers’ last two games. Goodrow and Strome pair up nicely for a two-man line 2 stack as well.

Evan Bouchard: He is a little pricey, but has big upside. Bouchard has four points in his last five games to go with 14 shots on goal and 10 blocked shots.

If Mikko Koskinen starts for Edmonton, my plan will be to play 4-5 Rangers with either McDavid or Draisaitl. Koskinen has been terrible in his last five starts. Koskinen has a 0-4-1 record with a .886 save % and is averaging four goals against per game.

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Welcome back!

It feels like it’s been an entire offseason since we’ve had NHL games, but it has only been a week. Now that the NHL’s holiday/COVID break is over we can get back to playing DFS, but that doesn’t mean we are done dealing with COVID-ravaged teams.

Multiple teams are still being affected by COVID on this small three-game slate. Because of this, we need to continue to monitor Twitter and the NHL news wire to see if any new players are added to the list of players out with COVID.

Games breakdown:

Tonight’s slate features one early game, Montreal at Tampa, in which both teams will be without their number one goalies and in Tampa’s case their numbers one and two. In the two late games, Vegas in LA and Arizona are in San Jose. Vegas is dealing with injuries to all three of Robin Lehner, Max Pacioretty, and Mark Stone. All three are listed as GTD so we will have to be following that news to see if any or all of them practice on Tuesday. San Jose has a few players out with COVID, but they could be back as well on Tuesday.

This slate sets up in such a way that you need to be up late (on the East coast) waiting for news before the 10:30 pm lock of the late games. I will do my best to guide you through the mess in this article but make sure you are in discord and following along on Twitter today for late-breaking news.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

James Reimer (vs Arizona)

Arizona is the worst team in the league in all three major categories (SOG, goals, PP%) so they appear that they are an easy team to pick on. I don’t typically play goalies against Arizona because they do not get enough shots on goal to give the opposing goalie the upside needed. With the lack of options on this slate, Reimer is probably one of the few healthy options on this slate and has the easiest path to a win bonus which makes him my choice.

Other Options: Jonathan Quick (vs Vegas): This play is purely based on Patches and Stone missing this game. If we get news that they are both in then I would come off Quick. Maxime Lagace (vs Mtl): I don’t love this play, but it appears Montreal might get some ownership and he will not. Lagace is a min price on DK and that is his real appeal. He will help you fit the high priced players from Tampa in comfortably.

Scott Wedgewood: SJ does not shoot much, but they also are towards the bottom of the league in goals scored as well. If Tomas Hertl and Jonathan Dahlen both miss this game it lessens the Sharks’ offensive potential greatly making Wedgewood a good GPP option.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Early game stack:
Tampa Bay:

With Tampa and Montreal dealing with outbreaks on their rosters, including their goalies this game could become a stack-up spot, especially on the Tampa side. All three of Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Mikhail Sergachev, and Anthony Cirelli, join goalies Andrei Vasilevskiy and Brian Elliott, as well as coaches Jon Cooper and Rob Zettler on the COVID list for the Lightning. Most of Tampa’s top players are eligible (as of writing) to play this game. Tampa also could be getting Brayden Point back from injury and while it’s less likely Nikita Kucherov as well. If one or both are back for Tampa this will give them a huge bump. I am not sure of the line combos of this writing, but I will suspect that whoever is on the top two lines and the Bolts power-play unit will be in play. Point skated on the top line and top PP unit on Monday so that is a good sign he will be in the lineup on Tuesday. Tampa is my pay-up spot of the night on this slate.

Montreal:

As for Montreal, they added Jake Allen, Ben Chiarot, Chris Wideman, Jeff Petry, and Joel Edmundson to their COVID list on Monday. Those five join Tyler Toffoli, Laurent Dauphin, Artturi Lehkonen, and Mike Hoffman who were already on the COVID list prior. Luckily, I guess you can call it luck, for the Habs their top line of Gallagher/Suzuki/Drouin is still intact and will be where I go for the Canadiens on Tuesday. On defense, Kale Clague and David Savard are the only real options for the Canadiens. Both Alex Romanov and Sami Niku are lesser options but are in play as they should log a ton of minutes.

**** Keep in mind this game COULD be postponed shortly before lock so it will be a safe idea to build late games only lineup and keep it ready to swap in before the 7:00 pm lock ****

Late Game Options

Vegas/LA

Even if the big guns are out for Vegas, their “old reliable” line of William Karlson, Reilly Smith, and Jonathan Marchessault are in play. This line, when healthy, is always performing for the Knights and has been for years. Shea Theodore is the best option on defense for the Knights, but all three of Zach Whitecloud, Dylan Coghlan, and Brayden McNabb have been collecting ancillary points in bunches (SOG and blocked shots).

In the same game, especially if Brossoit is in net for Vegas, the Kings’ top line could be a solid stack on Tuesday. Anze Kopitar is $6.8K on both sites making him playable and linemates are not expensive either. Alex Iafallo is under $6K on both sites and has three assists in his last five. Adrian Kempe has a goal and is averaging three shots on goal in his last 5. On defense, Drew Doughty is the obvious pay-up play, but Sean Durzi might be the better choice based on salary.

Arizona/SJ

On a small slate, we have to try and be different in some spots, and for me tonight that will be stacking Arizona. If you decide to go with someone other than Reimer in net or are building multiple lineups then the Yotes make for a great option. Arizona’s top line of Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, and Barrett Hayton has been rolling of late and makes for a great value stack. Keller has six points in his last five games to go along with just under 4 shots on goal per game. Schmaltz has five points in his last five games and Hayton has three assists centering this line.

Both Phil Kessel and Travis Boyd are options as a two-man second-line stack. Arizona has three min price defensemen (on DK) that are also some solid value. All three of Cam Dineen, Ilya Lyubushkin, and Anton Stralman have been picking up assists and ancillary points in the Yotes’ last five games as well.

For San Jose, it’s the top line (if Hertl and/or Dahlen aren’t back) and not much else. Timo Meier is expensive, but both Couture and Barabanov are inexpensive so it balances out the line. Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson are good expensive options, but both Mario Ferraro and Jake Middleton are cheap shot-blocking options. Both of them have been averaging around three blocked shots per game in their last 5.

Another COVID shortened slate

Monday is now down to just two games with the news that the NHL has stopped teams from Canada coming into the United States and vice versa. This slate now features just Columbus at the Sabres in Buffalo and then in the late game Minnesota goes to Texas to take on the Stars.

Since this is such a small slate I will not be going too deep into detail for these games like I typically do.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Looking at the four potential starters on this slate and the current run each team is on, I don’t want to roster any of them, but we have to, so here it goes.

  1. Elvis Merzlikins (or Korpisalo): Buffalo allows the 2nd most shots in the leauge and only one team allows more, and that team would be Columbus. Buffalo has only scored 12 goals in their last 5 games. On a slate where no goalie really seems like a good play, Merzlikins is the best of the bunch
  2. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (or Malcom Subban): Like I mentioned above, Buffalo allows the second most shots in the NHL so whoever is in net for the Sabres should see plenty of rubber. Another spot I wouldn’t normally suggest but on this slate we are looking for shot volume and ways to be different. Merzlikins will possibly be the chalk play, so in a game that could go to either team, I will prefer to take the contrarian play.
  3. Cam Talbot (or Kappo Kahkonen): Dallas’ offense is not that great, yes they can have good nights, but I don’t fear them. Talbot would be higher on the list, but the Stars don’t usually shoot enough for goalies to make value against them. In their last 7 games, Dallas has only scored 11 goals.
  4. Braden Holtby (or Jake Oettinger): Just like the Stars don’t shoot much, they also don’t allow shots on goal either. I think Minnesota is the top team to stack on this slate, so I don’t plan on rostering whoever starts for the Stars on Monday.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Minnesota Wild:

Like I wrote above, I think Minnesota is the top team to stack on this slate with their second line being the line I want to target.

Minnesota 2: Greenway – Eriksson Ek – Foligno

Minnesota 1 is also a solid line, but they are expensive. If you want to pay up then Minnesota 1 is a solid choice.

Defensemen: Alex Goligoski, Jared Spurgeon

Buffalo Sabres:

When you first look at the Sabres there isn’t much to like, but on this slate, they do present good upside and great value.

Buffalo 3: Asplund – Eakin – Hinostroza

This line has been productive and is all min priced on DK. If I have the salary, I will look at the Sabres’ top two lines as well. Running a PP stack isn’t a bad idea, using Tage Thompson, Jeff Skinner, and Dylan Cozens.

Defensemen: Rasmus Dahlin, Henri Jokiharju

Other Options:
  • Columbus 3 (Domi – Roslovic – Voracek)
  • Buffalo 2 (Okposo – Cozens – Murray)
  • Minnesota 1 (Kaprizov – Hartman – Zuccarello)
  • Dallas 1 (Pavelski – Hintz – Robertson)
  • Colmbus 1 (Texier – Jenner – Bjorkstrand)

…and then there were four (games)

Sunday was originally going to be two separate four-game slates, but thanks to more COVID postponements, we now have one stretched-out four-game slate. This slate locks at 2 pm (eastern) with Vegas on Long Island visiting the Islanders. After that game, at 3 pm the Blues head to the great north to take on Winnipeg. In the two “late” games, both starting at 7 pm, Pittsburgh travels to New Jersey and the Kings play their fourth road game in six nights as they take on Ovechkin and the Caps.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Typically on short slates, it’s hard to find good goaltending, but on this slate, I think we have two stand-out spots in net that we can use. And the first one is…

Charlie Lindgren ( @ Winnipeg)

Lindgren has performed admirably for the Blues since they were hit by a rash of goaltender injuries and has earned his stay in the NHL and the starting spot over Jordan Binnington. Winnipeg is probably the stiffest test Lindgren has seen this season, but he appears to be up for it. Lindgren is cheap on both sites today which will possibly make him popular, though I think Lehner and Jarry might be higher owned. Lindgren has stopped 110 of 115 shots faced in his four starts (27.5 saves P/G) and has a 1.25 GAA. If it’s Binnington, I am off him. If you are MME or maxing out a contest, then you should have some shares of Binnington but he is not the top option especially coming off an injury.

Tristan Jarry ( @ New Jersey)

Jarry is having a Vezina caliber season right now and is carrying this team on his back essentially. Keep in mind this is another situation similar to the Blues where if DeSmith starts then I am off the Penguins goalie. Jarry has one regulation loss in his 11 starts (9 wins and one shootout loss) and has allowed just 14 goals in those 11 games. New Jersey has lost five straight and nine of their last ten. In those 10 games, New Jersey has scored two goals or less seven times. Jarry is the higher priced of these two goalies so it’ll come down to what fits your build in the end, but I think both could be top of the heap tonight when the slate is done.

Other Options: Connor Hellebuyck (vs StL), Jon Gillies (vs Pit – GPP ONLY), Capitals starter (vs LA)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Washington Capitals:

Sorry IDrago15, but your Kings should get handed a beating by the Capitals tonight. I expect a sluggish Kings team tonight with being their fourth East Coast road game in six nights. They were beaten by the Hurricanes 5-1 on Saturday and I see Washington doing something similar on Sunday.

Obviously, any Capitals stack has to start with Alex Ovechkin. No matter who Ovi has on his line he is always putting up both real and fantasy points per game. Ovechkin is currently on a seven-game point streak and has 14 points in his last 10 games. In those ten games, Ovechkin is averaging 5.3 shots on goal per game and has hit the bonus on DK five times in this span.

After Ovechkin, you can pair him up with so many different players to make a full three-man stack or a mini-stack. My top partner in a stack for Ovechkin on this slate is Connor Sheary. Both Ovi and Sheary play on the top power-play units and Sheary himself is riding a four-game point streak. Los Angeles has one of the worst penalty kills in the NHL (27th ranked PK%) so a power-play stack for the Caps tonight seems like a good place to start.

Outside of Sheary, both Lars Eller and TJ Oshie make for great plays tonight skating on the top unit with Ovechkin. Eller has three goals and two assists in his last five games and Oshie has four assists in six games since his return from injury. John Carlson is both the best and most expensive option on defense for the Caps. If you are looking for value defensemen, and who isn’t, both Nick Jensen and Martin Fehervary are good options.

Secondary stack options:

One of the top stacks and most expensive stacks on this slate is Vegas 1. Both Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone have been on fire since their returns from injury. Patches has five goals, two assists, and 22 SOG in his last five and Stone has one goal and five assists in that same span. We cannot forget about Chandler Stephenson who himself has seven assists during this same five-game hot streak. Vegas 2 is also a solid value-stack if you cannot get the top line into your build. On defense, Alex Pietrangelo is like Carlson where he is both the best and most expensive option. Zach Whitecloud and Brayden McNabb are great value options from VGK.

St. Louis 2 is my next best stack after Vegas on this slate. They are also much cheaper than the Vegas stack while putting out similar production. Both Pavel Buchnevich (1 G 6 A) and Vladimir Tarasenko (3 G 4 A) have seven points in their last five games while Ivan Barbashev has three goals and three assists. Staying with the forwards, a two-man stack of Ryan O’Reilly and Logan Brown is a nice cheaper stack as well. Outside of paying up for Torey Krug or Colton Parayko there is not much to like for the Blues on defense. Niko Mikkola is a min-priced (DK) option who makes for a great punt tonight.

Other Options: Pittsburgh 1, Los Angeles 2

Value stacks

  • New Jersey 2 (Tatar-Mercer-Johnsson)
  • Wasington 2 ( Sheary-McMichael-Sprong)
  • Pittsburgh 3 (McGinn-Blueger-Aston-Reese)
  • NY Islanders 2 (Lee-Pageau-Wahlstrom)
  • Pittsburgh 2 (Heinen-Carter-Zucker)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

No day of rest in the NHL on Sunday

Happy Sunday! Tonight we have a five-game slate on tap in the NHL with two of the hottest teams in the league meeting in the first game (Nashville @ NY Rangers). Anaheim travels to St. Louis where both teams are on the second night of a back-to-back. What could be the game of the night happens in Denver when Floriday and Colorado battle. Minnesota is in Vegas and the suddenly red hot Vancouver Canucks host Carolina in the late games.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

I’m just going to come out and say it, goalies suck tonight. There are not a lot of playable options on this slate of five games. I will do my best to break down a couple of options but it appears we are looking to just get positive points from our goalies on Sunday.

Thatcher Demko ( vs Carolina)

I have been tooting the Demko horn since the coaching change three games ago, and it seems like I may be the only one here who is. But my reasons are validated by Demko on the ice. Demko has been one of the best fantasy goalies in his last three starts under Bruce Boudreau winning all three. Vancouver has actually won five of their last six games and Demko was in net for all five victories (started all six).

Carolina had been one of the hottest teams to start the season but has cooled off immensely since then. In their last 10 games, Carolina is averaging just 2.8 goals per game, down from their season average of 3.23. During those 10 games, Carolina is averaging 33.6 shots on goal per game, which is higher than their season average.

During this six-game span I have been mentioned for Demko, he has a 1.92 GAA and an incredible .946 save %. On a slate with very few options at goalie, Demko pops off to me as the far and away top option.

Other Options: Cam Talbot ( @ Vegas), Alexander Georgiev (vs Nashville), Robin Lehner ( vs Minnesota)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

There is one game that I predict to be a popular game stack, Florida at Colorado, but that isn’t the one game I am focusing on tonight.

Nashville @ NY Rangers

While I am not telling you to ignore the Col/Fla, I want to show you a way to be different on a small slate like Sundays. Both these teams have been scoring in bunches recently and that should continue on Sunday night.

Both teams have top 10 power plays, but Nashville is one of the worst penalty kills in the NHL (24th) as well as being one of the most penalized teams in the league. My first focus is the Rangers power-play units, especially the top unit. First and foremost, if you want to pay up for a defenseman tonight, Adam Fox is the man. After Fox on this unit for New York, I want Artemi “Bread Man” Panarin and Ryan Strome. Both Panarin and Strome have been rolling of late and have combined for five goals and nine assists in the Rangers’ last five games.

If you don’t want to pay up at defense, which I usually do, you can add Chris Kreider to your PP stack. Kreider has not been able to find the score sheet much in the last five, but he does have 14 shots on goal so I’d say he is due on Sunday. Rounding out this unit is Mika Zibanejad who is priced right on DK today at $6,300 who is averaging near 10 DK points per game in his last 5.

Looking at some lower-priced options, a three-man stack of Filip Chytil, Alexis Lafreniere, and the red hot Jacob Trouba. This PP2 stack will most likely have very little ownership but could be the right fit price-wise to get exposure to the Rangers while stacking the Fla/Col game.

Switching to Nashville now, and staying with the expensive dmen, Roman Josi is the top play from the Predators. After the Preds captain, I will look to the value from their top line to save salary. Eeli Tolvanen is currently on a four-game goal-scoring streak while playing on the top line. Tolvanen is also super cheap for his production in his last four ($3.2K/$4.6K). Speaking of cheap wingers, Luke Kunin ($2.7/$3.7K) plays with Tolvanen on line one and he has a goal and an assist to go along with nine shots on goal in his last 5. Centering this line is Ryan Johansen who has two goals and four assists in the Preds’ last four. Some other options you can run from Nashville are Tanner Jeannot who has three assists in his last 2 games. On defense, both Dante Fabbro and Mattias Ekholm are solid cheap options today.

Other stacking options:

St. Louis 2: This may be my favorite line outside of the Rangers PP unit tonight. All three of Tarasenko, Barbashev, and Buchnevich have been scoring every time they’re on the ice it seems. Both Logan Brown and Brandon Saad are cheap options for a PP2 stack as well. Colton Parayko and Torey Krug are my choices for defense

Vancouver 2 (DK ONLY): This line is extremely too cheap on DK, but priced up on FD so they are not playable there. Brock Boeser and JT Miller are the two top plays for me from this line, but Tanner Pearson is near min price and definitely playable. On defense, Quinn Hughes is the top play, but for value, both Tucker Poolman and Tyler Myers are in play.

If you are looking to use a high-priced stack to pivot off potential chalk, both Minnesota 1 and Carolina 1 are great options. Obviously, I prefer to use Demko tonight, but if you want to go elsewhere in net Carolina 1 would be the one line that I’d roll from them. Minnesota 1 was held off the score sheet on Saturday but I think they get back on it on Sunday.

Max Pacioretty is coming off a two-goal game and has seven in his last 5. Keegan Kolesar appears to be getting a shot at centering Patches and Vegas captain, Mark Stone, on Sunday.

Lastly, Anaheim is a potential target for me, depending on who is in net for St. Louis. If it’s Charlie Lindgren again, I am off the Ducks. But if we get Jon Gillies then I will have some interest in running either of their top two lines as a stack with Kevin Shattenkirk, Cam Fowler, and Hampus Lindholm as options on defense. Anaheim is averaging just 2 goals per game in their last 5 games.

Big Monday!

We have a nice split slate on Monday night with three games at 7 pm, one 8:30 game, and two 10 pm games. Early on we have two of the top offensive teams in the league with Colorado and Washington. In the third 7 pm start, New Jersey hosts Ottawa.

We have Dallas at home for Arizona in what I expect to be one of the lowest-scoring games on the slate, two spots where I could see using both goalies. In the two 10 pm starts we have Pittsburgh making their first visit to Seattle to play the Kraken and Bruce Boudreau makes his coaching debut in Vancouver as they host Los Angeles on the second night of a road back-to-back.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Jake Oettinger ( vs Arizona)

Oettinger is not ideal for GPP’s on Monday because Arizona does not shoot the puck enough, but he is perfect for cash. Oettinger does not give up much, only seven goals in his 5 starts this season and he has a .951 save %. Arizona is dead last in the NHL in shots per game (25.4) and goals (1.8) so Oettinger’s upside is limited, but the win bonus is pretty much a lock which is what makes for a safe cash game play.

Other Options: Tristan Jarry ( @ Sea), Ilya Samsonov ( vs Anh)

GPP Goalie:

Thatcher Demko ( vs Los Angeles)

Vancouver has a new coach, but that doesn’t change the fact their defense is a sieve and will give up plenty of shots on goal. Los Angeles is also one of the top teams in shots on goal this season but has one of the league’s worst shooting percentages. Demko has not been bad he just gets no support from his team. During his last five starts, Demko has allowed just 2.6 goals per game and has a .916 save %.

Other Options: Cal Petersen ( @ Van), Scott Wedgewood ( @ Dal), Martin Jones ( vs Col)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Most people will start with the Capitals and the Avalanche as teams to build around and those people would be smart to do so. I plan on focusing on the Caps and Avs as well when building on Monday, but they aren’t the only teams you can build around.

Looking at Washington first, the top line is the place to start, as it is with most teams. Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov are now back with Tom Wilson on the top line with the Caps getting healthy. After that, there isn’t much I want to use. Wilson doesn’t see PP1 time anymore, he has been replaced by the returning TJ Oshie. Upon his return this weekend, Oshie played 16 minutes but only recorded one blocked shot. It was more important to see he can handle his usual minutes than what he did productivity-wise.

Now that we know Oshie can play his usual allotment of minutes we can use him in confidence. Also on the top unit is Conor Sheary and John Carlson. Outside of using Carlson on defense, both Nick Jensen and Martin Fehervary are cheap options who rack up those key ancillary points.

Colorado Avalanche:

The Avs are a deeper team in my opinion, but that depth relies on the health of Nazem Kadri and Cale Makar returning on Monday night. If we see one or both are active for Monday’s game in Philly then this team becomes the top team on the slate for me. If not, then they are tied with Washington because of their lack of depth after the top unit. Colorado’s top line of Landeskog/MacKinnon/Rantanen is the only real line stack I would run in the absence of Kadri. On defense, they have more depth that with Makar out we can still look at using. Namely, Samuel Girard and Devon Toews, but outside of them, Erik Johnson is a fairly reliable point man for those SOG/BS categories.

Penguins go hunting for Kraken!

I truly do try to avoid being a homer and writing up the Penguins weekly, but on this slate, it’s kind of hard not to. Seattle has been playing better of late, but Pittsburgh is far and away the superior team and with Crosby starting to heat up they will only improve offensively. As I mentioned, Sidney Crosby is starting to get his game back after missing all of training camp, the preseason, and the beginning of the season. Crosby is a point per game player so far in 11 games this season, and he has nine of those eleven points in his last five games.

After Crosby, there is Jake Guentzel who himself is coming off a hat-trick in the Pens’ last game on Saturday night. Evan Rodrigues is the last piece on Pittsburgh’s top line. Rodrigues is benefitting from more ice time and time with some of the top players on this team with a team-high 26 shots on goal in their last five games. Seattle is 28th in the league in goals-against (3.46 P/G), but they don’t allow many shots on goal. Pitt should be able to get their fair share of shots as the third-ranked team in the league averaging over 35 per game.

Looking past the top line, Pittsburgh’s second and third lines are also in consideration as some good value. Both Teddy Blueger and Kasperi Kapanen have been productive of late and are seeing over 15 minutes of ice time as third-line players. Jeff Carter isn’t much of a value piece, but he is the fifth man on the top PP unit as well as the second-line center. On defense, Kris Letang is coming off a three-point performance on Saturday and is the point man on the top PP. After Letang, Brian Dumoulin and Mike Matheson are two cheap pieces who get those ancillary points I mention all the time.

One of our favorite teams to use here at WinDaily!

I must first state that I am an avid Penguins fan and a New Yorker so it is my duty to hate everything about the Devils. Now, with that out of the way this team has been a good DFS team whenever they play and especially on Monday. New Jersey has served us well so far in the early part of this season I will be going back to them on this slate.

Their top line is a great stack tonight, but also a semi-expensive stack and with teams like Colorado, Washington, Pittsburgh having the better and more consistent top lines we are looking at the Devils for value on Monday. And we are in luck, New Jersey offers probably the best value on this slate in their second and third lines. I particularly love their second line with how hot it has been recently. In his last five games, Andreas Johnsson has 3 goals and 4 assists as well as 11 shots on goal. Almost equally as hot is Jesper Bratt with six points in the last five and 17 shots on goal in that span. Dawson Mercer centers this line but has not been too hot lately, but Tomas Tatar has four points in his last five and plays on the second power-play unit. Tatar is also significantly cheaper than Mercer on DK (FD has him priced up) and will get exposure to the third line.

On defense, the standout pay-up option is Dougie Hamilton. I will never discourage you from playing him, but there are good cheap options on this team as well. Damon Severson plays on that aforementioned second power-play unit, and Ryan Graves is on the top pair with Hamilton seeing nearly 20 minutes of TOI while picking up three points in his last five. Jonas Siegenthaler is min priced on DK and near min price on FD and is a guy who gets those always important SOG/BS points.

Some overlooked top lines:

Two other top lines that have been productive of late are the Dallas Stars and Ottawa Senators. Both of these lines are in solid matchups tonight and should go completely overlooked. All three of Tkachuk/Norris/Batherson have been point per game players for Ottawa in their last five and New Jersey has allowed nearly five goals against per game in their last five. Looking at the point men for Ottawa, Thomas Chabot is the high salary low ownership dman on this slate while I would rather pay down for either Nikita Zaitsev or Artem Zub.

As for Dallas, the combo of Pavelski/Hintz/Roberston have put up 12 goals and 12 assists combined in their last five with each of the three forwards scoring over a point per game in this stretch. Arizona should not present much of a problem for this unit on Monday. On defense, Miro Heiskanen is the pay-up option, while Esa Lindell and Ryan Suter are your value choices.

Value time!

Anaheim 1 and 2 are both fairly priced on this slate and Washington’s goalies don’t scare me

While I think Petersen will be good tonight, Vancouver 1 is a solid line that isn’t priced as high as it should be

I may really like Demko tonight, but Los Angeles 2 has been money of late and I will probably have some in my non-Demko builds

Seattle 2 is in play as well against Pittsburgh as a contrarian late-night hammer. Brandon Tanev revenge game? Probably not but he is still a good play.

Early lock for a big Sunday slate!

We have six games on the slate for tonight and the slate locks one hour earlier than usual tonight so make sure you get your lineups in on time!

We have a pair of 6 pm (est) starts, the first being San Jose wrapping up their third, and final, five-game road trip of the season in Columbus who is on the second night of a back-to-back. Tampa Bay is Philly for what appears to be a blowout waiting to happen with how poor the Flyers have been of late. At 7:30 both the Islanders and Blackhawks play their second game in two nights with two poor playing goaltenders expected to start.

Toronto plays their second game in as many nights on the road in Winnipeg, which I expect to be joined by the next game as the highest scoring on the slate. Edmonton hosts the Kings who are making their trek through Western Canada at the moment. Last but certainly not least, what may be the game of the night, Calgary is in Vegas to take on the suddenly red hot offense of the Golden Knights.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Mikko Koskinen ( vs LA)

Koskinen is not someone I will typically write or play, but on this slate, he projects as the highest-scoring goalie with the best win probability. Over his last five starts, Koskinen is averaging nearly 30 saves per game while scoring 16.5 DKFP per game. That may not seem like a high score, but that is value for his price on Sunday. If you are playing cash games on this slate, lock in Koskinen with McDavid and Draisaitl and look for value elsewhere.

Other Options: Adin Hill/James Reimer ( @ CBJ)

GPP Goalie:

Elvis Merzlikins ( vs SJ)

Mezlikins is inexpensive on both sites ($7.7K) and is in a matchup with a road-weary Sharks team. While he is coming off a bad start against Nashville, before that Merzlikins had two back-to-back solid outings. Merzlikins had a 36 save shutout at home against Winnipeg and then stopped 39 shots in a win over Vancouver. San Jose averages over 28 shots on goal per game while Columbus allows 34.5 per game (30th in the NHL). The Sharks have only scored more than two goals once in their last four and average just 2.58 per game this season (26th).

Other Options: Jacob Markstrom ( @ VGK), Connor Hellebuyck ( vs Tor), Kevin Lankinen (vs NYI)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Outside of the obvious Edmonton plays, there are plenty of other options on this slate to build around. If you are going to stack Edmonton though, obviously it starts with the dynamic duo of Batman and Ro… oh no not them, it starts with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. One or both of those guys is where ever Oilers stack start, but outside of those two players, there is not much else I love up front tonight. Kris Russell on the other hand has been a solid fantasy point producer this season without really putting up points. Russell is super cheap on both sites and is a lock for me in any Edmonton stacks on Sunday. In his last five games, Russell has one assist but is averaging 12 DKFP per game because of his 24 blocked shots in that same span.

There’s a storm heading into Motown

For me, the number one team I want to build around on Sunday is the Tampa Lightning. Tampa has scored three goals or more in nine of their last ten games and has hit four or more goals in four of those games. On the flip side Philadelphia is has allowed four goals or more in seven of their last ten and has allowed 15 goals in their last three.

Tampa’s top line is my favorite stack followed by their number power-play unit. Steven Stamkos is expensive on both sites, but his linemates are not. Ondrej Palat is under $5K on DK and under $6K on FD and Alex Barre-Boulet is near min price on both sites. ABB has not put up points yet, but he is getting ice time with two of the best players on a team that I expect 4-5 goals from. Victor Hedman can be used as an expensive defenseman, or you can use Zach Bogosian as a cheap dman as well. Bogosian, similar to Russell, does not put up real points, but he racks up fantasy points with shots on goal and blocked shots.

Lastly, you can use both Alex Killorn and Anthony Cirelli to round out a PP1 stack and use them either Stamkos, Palat, or Hedman for an L1/L2 mix stack for the power-play.

Looking to the Windy City boys for some value

Chicago is one of my favorite teams to build around tonight, but also one of the best teams for value as well. The Blackhawks’ top line of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Brandon Hagel is only $15K on DraftKings and $16.8K on FanDuel. Varlamov is off to a horrendous start this season with a 3.46 GAA and an abysmal .881 save %. The veteran netminder has only allowed less than three goals once in five appearances this season (that was in a relief appearance). On defense, Seth Jones is the obvious play on defense for the Hawks, he is the top FPPG player on the slate for defensemen. Outside of Jones, both Jake McCabe and Erik Gustafsson have been getting plenty of ice time and putting up plenty of blocked shots and shot on goal points. McCabe and Gustafsson are also both min price on DK and near min price on FD.

You can use pieces of line one with Gustafsson on the top PP unit for Chicago. Joining Toews and Kane on that unit are Dylan Strome and Kirby Dach putting them both in play. Both Seth Jones and Hagel skate on the second power-play unit and you can add Alex DeBrincat for a three-man PP2 stack.

In other stacking news:

Vegas has put the band back together now that they are all healthy, so their top unit of Pacioretty/Stephenson/Stone is one of my favorite stacks on this slate. Both Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore are great plays on defense, but my favorite is Nicholas Hague. Hague is not going to put up the offensive numbers of Shea and Petro, but he racks up blocked shots and shots on goal and is very affordable. Both Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault have been finding the back of the net often for the Golden Knights of late and make for a nice L2 stack as well.

Philadephia 1 is another mid-priced stack that could prove fruitful on Sunday. Tampa is on a back-to-back to I expect Brian Elliott to get the start for them which means that Philly is also in play today.

As it is whenever they are on the slate, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in play. Of course, their top two lines are where everyone goes, and with reason. But to be different on this slate, give a look to Jason Spezza. The veteran winger is on fire with four goals in his last five games as well as an assist. Equally as hot is Wayne Simmonds who is Spezza’s winger on the Leafs’ fourth line. Simmonds has three goals and two assists in his last five as well.

With San Jose in getaway mode, I like taking a chance in tournaments with some cheap Columbus pieces. The Blue Jackets’ third line of Robinson/Kuraly/Texier is all min priced on DK and are all averaging over 15 minutes per game in their last five. Columbus themselves are on a back-to-back as well so typically we see third and fourth lines get some extra minutes in games like this.

If Koskinen is the cash game goalie, that means he should be popular so of course, I like some Kings’ stacks on this slate. Line one is the popular way to go, but line two has been the better line of late. Viktor Arvidsson has six points in his last five and 18 shots on goal. Alex Iafallo has five goals in that same span and 19 SOG. Lastly, Phillip Danault centers this line and has a couple of assists in his last five as well.

Another big Tuesday slate!

After a small Tuesday slate last week, we are back with a big eight-game slate this week. The game of the night might be Washington at Florida. This game should be one of the highest-scoring ones on the slate and definitely a game we will want to target. Another game that should be high on the list of targets for Tuesday will be Tampa Bay and St. Louis. We also get Minnesota at home against Arizona on the second night of a back-to-back. There is also a team coming to the east from California that I expect will go completely overlooked on this slate but is my favorite team on this slate.

Brad Marchand was suspended for three games on Monday, so it will be interesting to see who gets his spot on the top line and the top PP unit. Make sure to check into discord during the day Tuesday to see any updates we have.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Cam Talbot ( vs Arizona)

Like I mentioned in the open, Minnesota gets Arizona on the second night of a back-to-back. Arizona did shut out the Jets on Monday (insert pained emoji face) but I don’t see them having similar success two nights in a row. Talbot has been rolling along with three straight dominant performances lately, and four in five games. Talbot projects as the safest play on the slate with the highest win probability.

Other Options: Linus Ullmark (vs Detroit)

GPP Goalie:

John Gibson ( @ Los Angeles)

Checks slate, sees Anaheim against one of the lowest-scoring offenses in the league, locks in Anaheim goalie as my number one GPP goalie. Whether it’s Gibson or Stolarz, I will be locking the Ducks netminder in as my top GPP goalie on Tuesday. Los Angeles is bad offensively, and even though they have shown flashes of goal-scoring ability, they don’t scare me. LA ranks 4th in SOG/G with 34.9, but they rank 25th in Goals/G with just 2.6 which leaves them 29th in Shooting % with a 7.45 (Only the Islanders, Canucks, and Coyotes are worse). Whoever ends up in net for the Ducks should be able to rack up the points on Tuesday.

Other Options: Scott Wedgewood ( @ Min) – Super cheap and could be in for a huge workload, Elvis Merzlikins ( @ Nsh), Andrei Vasilevskiy ( @ St. Louis), James Reimer ( @ NJ)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Chum in the waters off the East Coast

I don’t know why, but people tend to skip playing the Sharks on a nightly basis, and I for one am tired of it. This team has not been one of the top teams offensively, I get it, but they do have the ability to put up goals, and on most nights they do. New Jersey is a middle-of-the-pack team defensively (they literally rank 16th in goals against and shots against) so they aren’t a brick wall on defense we should worry about. They also have the 21st ranked penalty kill, so San Jose power-play stacks are definitely an option on Tuesday as well.

For me, I will look to the Sharks’ first line, more specifically Logan Couture and Timo Meier as the place to start any Sharks stacks. These two are the Sharks’ best forwards and have been all season. Meier is playing at over a point per game pace in the club’s last ten games (5G 6A) and Couture is no slouch adding three goals and five assists himself. Recently, Jonathan Dahlen has returned to the Sharks lineup and skated with the top line last game. If he stays there for this game he will be one of the best value pieces on the late.

If you are looking for a value stack to pair with one of the big teams, then line two for San Jose is a good place to go. Tomas Hertl is the best option, also the most expensive, on that line but his wings will be practically unowned as well. Both Rudolfs Balcers and Alexander Barabanov are under $3K (on DK) and can put up points. This line is much riskier than the top line, but they have scoring ability and are a good GPP stack. I mentioned the PP earlier, Nick Bonino joins the top line on the top unit and he may be the best value from the Sharks because of this. Bonino is a third-line center who sees nearly 16 minutes of ice time per game and has two goals and nine shots in his last 5 games.

As for defense, Brent Burns rounds of the top PP unit, but he is not the only option on the point from this team. Mario Ferraro is Burns’ partner on the top defensive pairing and has been a shot-blocking machine lately. Ferraro averages 3.4 blocked shots per game in his last 5, which means he averages enough for the bonus on DK, can’t beat that. Both Burns and Ferraro are solid plays, as is Erik Karlsson. The only problem is we don’t get a cheap dman to play with the Sharks on Tuesday, so we will have to find other places for value.

Best of the top lines:

There are a lot of options to build around on Tuesday, so I will briefly list my favorite top lines on this slate, with short reasoning why:

  • Boston Bruins 1 (vs Detroit): Like I talked about in the open, Marchand is suspended for this game, so someone else, someone much cheaper, will be taking his spot with Pasta and Bergeron. – Defensive value play: Brandon Carlo
  • Florida Panthers 1 (vs Washington): Washington has been good on defense this year, but Florida is too good offensively (2nd in goals, 3rd in SOG). I love this game stack tonight. – Defensive value play: Radko Gudas
  • Washington Capitals 1 ( @ Florida): See above. As a side note for those betting, take the over and the Panthers in this game. These teams have hit the ober 7 straight games, and the favorites in 37-16 in the last 53 matchups. – Defensive value play: Nick Jensen/Dmitry Orlov
  • Nashville Predators PP1: Nashville’s PP ranks 6th in the league and this unit has been on fire lately. Ryan Johansen may be the hottest player (outside of Matt Duchene) and he is incredibly under priced. – Defensive value play: Alexander Carrier (insert fire emoji!)

Value bin!

Before I get to the line stacks for value, just note that Patric Hornqvist plays on the top PP unit for the Panthers but is on line four so he will be completely overlooked and is some good value tonight.

NJ1: They’re one of the best lines in hockey right now but are not priced like it.

NSH2: I already mentioned Johansen, but this line overall is good value against Columbus tonight

CBJ2 and 3: We saw Columbus try out different line combos in practice Monday, and if these hold true then they are two solid cheap stacks in a matchup they could put up 3-4 goals.

STL2: I have been rolling this line out game after game for the Blues and they have yet to disappoint.

ANH2: Another line that has been on an absolute tear of late. Sonny Milano gets no respect and no ownership. Possible late night hammer here.
