Synopsis:
After these three games, we will have the 32 teams that will make up the UCL group stage. Similarly to yesterday’s slate, all three games are tight going into the away leg.
Unlike Tuesday’s slate, I don’t think there is a game stack that needs to be played. But I do think there are two games that can be the main focus. The first is Royal Antwerp visiting AEK Athens. The home meeting between these two last Tuesday saw them combine for 30 shots with an xGoal of three. I don’t expect Wednesday’s matchup to be any different. AEK needs to push for a goal to bring the aggregate level to one, while Antwerp will be looking to strike on the counter with a long ball towards their top goal scorer, Janssen.
The second game that can break the slate is the PSV-Rangers matchup. The home leg between these two was the highest-scoring, with four goals. PSV has a strong attacking team with the likes of de Jong and Bakayoko upfront, which will continue to rattle Rangers defense. On the other side, having a player like Tavernier is beneficial for Rangers, as he is not only solid on defense but is also a huge threat attacking down the wing.
The Copenhagen vs. Rakow game should be the lowest scoring, as the side from Denmark will likely try to defend their small lead at home and not give Rakow many chances to do any damage.
