NHL Picks
Kaapo Kahkonen – 3.5 Goals Allowed – Over
The Avalanche are one of the biggest favorites on the board tonight. Now that they are getting Nathan MacKinnon back tonight, it really solidifies their lineup. If he were out, they were going to slide Kadri up to the top line, which really weakened their second line. Now that he’s back, they have two solid lines facing a goalie giving up a ton of goals in Kahkonen.
He’s given up at least 4 goals in 5 of his last 6 games and is going into Colorado facing an Avalanche team that is 26-4-3 and home ice. This is going to be as tough of a matchup for a goalie as there is tonight. Look for Kahkonen to really struggle tonight.
Jake Oettinger – 2.5 Goals Allowed – Under
One of the biggest success stories for Dallas this season has been the play of Jake Oettinger. On the year, Oettinger is 23-11-1 with an impressive 2.49 GAA. He’s allowed more than 3 goals in a game just once over the last 2 months. He faced this same Ducks team a couple of days ago and allowed just a pair of goals.
The Ducks offense has been almost nonexistent over the past month, scoring just 2.31 goals per game. That’s not going to cut it. I’m going to be using Oettinger tonight in DFS and I’m also going with the under on PrizePicks.
Erik Kallgren – 2.5 Goals Allowed – Over
Few teams can score at the pace the Maple Leafs score. The same can almost be said at the pace in which they give up goals. Over the last month, the Maple Leafs are giving up close to 4 goals per game. Only a handful of teams on tonight’s big slate are giving up that many, but they’re teams you’d expect to give up that many.
Kallgren was the darling of the NHL after his first 2 games, but since then he’s come way back down to earth with 13 goals allowed in his last 3. Winnipeg has some fire power and is currently on the outside in when it comes to the playoffs. Look for them to get their 3 goals tonight.
Jonathan Huberdeau – 1.5 Points – Over
Anytime you’re dealing with a multiple point prop it gets a little dicey. That said, the Panthers are massive favorites tonight with a projected goal total of 4.7 as we speak. That’s high, as high as I’ve seen this season. The Panthers are going to score a ton of goals tonight and Huberdeau is a big part of their offense.
The Panthers have changed their lines a bit and have shifted Giroux down to the second line with Huberdeau. That line would be a top-line on about two thirds of the teams in the NHL. While he’s on the second line, Huberdeau is also the anchor of the top power-play unit. Huberdeau has had multiple-point games in 3 of his last 5 and he should make it 4 of 6 tonight.
Matthew Tkachuk – .5 Assists – Over
The Flames are another team that should score a healthy amount of goals as they have a projected total of near 4 right now. One of their biggest forces on offense this season has been Matthew Tkachuk who’s currently sitting on 51 assists.
He’s had assists in all but 4 games in March. Being that today’s the last day of March and he hasn’t missed any games, that’s pretty impressive. He has assists in 5 straight games and after today we’ll be saying 6. Taking the Over here.
Summary
Tonight’s a fun looking slate that should provide us with a ton of offense. Loving the overs for both Kahkonen and Kallgren as both teams are defensively challenged facing good to great offenses.
