NHL Picks
Ryan Hartman – 2.5 Shots – Over/Kirill Kaprizov – 3.5 Shots Over
The Flyers have been a team I have picked on early and often this year. Defensively, they’ve been absolute trash. I want to focus on shot volume here because well, that’s the prop I’m looking at. Over the past month, the Flyers have been giving up close to 36 shots per game. That’s an insanely high number and one we want to exploit.
The two guys I plan on using here are Hartman and Kaprizov. Both guys play on both the top line together as well as the top power-play unit. Hartman has 21 shots over his past 5 games and Kaprizov has 19. I will add that if I had to pick between the 2, I’m picking the Hartman over. He’s taking more shots and has a lower PrizePicks prop.
Matt Boldy – .5 Points – Under
A few weeks ago Boldy was almost a lock for at least a point. He was playing some of his best hockey of the year. That was short-lived as he has now gone 6 straight games without a point. If we look at some of his advanced metrics, we can see he’s just playing an important role in the offense.
He has just 5 shots in his last 5 games and a miniscule 10 iCF over that same stretch. He’s also seeing just 13 minutes of ice time. While the environment will be great for the Wild tonight as noted above, I just don’t think that Boldy will be a big part of it. Boldy should stay off the scoring sheet for a seventh straight game.
Auston Matthews – .5 Goals – Under
This is a big dilemma. Does Matthews find the back of the net tonight? I mean, the guy has goals in 8 of his last 9 games. It pains me to say this, but I’m going with the Under on this prop from PrizePicks tonight. Boston is one of the best defensive teams in the NHL and I could see a scenario where they just shadow him all game with the hopes of just shutting him down.
MacKenzie Weegar – 2.5 Shots – Over
Similar to the Flyers, the Canadiens give up a ton of shots. Over the last month their shots against have been hovering around the 34-35 mark per game. That’s a lot! The guy on the Panthers I’ll use to attack this number tonight is MacKenzie Weegar.
With Ekblad out of the year, Weegar has really stepped it up a notch. Over his last 5 games, Weegar has 17 shots and a team leading 39 iCF. He’s just blasting it away. This is one of my favorite props of the night and it should get hit by the second period tonight.
