NHL Picks
Kyle Connor/Alex Ovechkin – .5 Goals
Tonight we’re stuck with 2 picks for goals, Alex Ovechkin and Kyle Connor. Ovechkin always stands a chance to put one in net. I just don’t think tonight’s it. Tampa Bay is a tough defensive team, with only 3 goals per game over the past month.
Now Connor on the other hand has a great matchup tonight. Detroit is arguably one of the worst defensive teams in the league. Over the last month teams have scored close to 4.80 goals per game against them. Connor is coming into tonight’s matchup well-rested, having sat out the last 3 games on the Covid-19 list. Prior to that, he had scored goals in 9 of his last 13 games. With an easier matchup, love him to pick up like he never was off. He’s my goal of the night pick for PrizePicks. In regards to Ovechkin, I’m not saying he doesn’t score tonight, I just don’t like the matchup for him tonight.
Josh Morrissey – 2.5 Shots on Goal – Over
I highlighted above how awful Detroit is on defense, at least in terms of goals given up per game. On the shots side of things, it’s no better of a story. Since the beginning of March, they’re giving up close to 37 shots per game. They also have a Corsi Against of close to 60. Of the teams playing tonight, only Winnipeg has a worst number. Side note, that game should be a ton of fun from a fantasy perspective.
Morrissey has 13 shots over his last 5 games, with one of those games being a goose egg. He loves to shoot and I love him with an Over on the 2.5 shots projection we’re getting from PrizePicks tonight.
Filip Hronek – 1.5 Shots on Goal – Over
We just need 2 shots from Hronek tonight. It’s a number he’s hit in 4 of his last 6 games and it’s a number I think he should hit tonight. This is a game featuring 2 teams that don’t block shots. Combined, these 2 teams give up more than 70 shots per game. There will be pucks flying all over the place. Hronek plays more than 20 minutes per game so he should have plenty of time to try to put the puck on net.
Moritz Seider – 2.5 Shots on Goal – Over
Seider went through a little bit of a stretch where he wasn’t playing all that well. Those days are behind him and he’s back to being one of the top rookie defenseman in the league. If we look at his shots projection tonight of 2.5, it’s a number he’s hit 3 times in his last 5 games. With a matchup against a Jets team that is giving up just a ton of shots, I love the Over on this number.
Summary
As I said in the opener, tonight’s a tougher slate to navigate through with some of these projections. Nothing screamed out to me as a must-play, so I’d recommend playing on the later side.
