Tonight we have a small, but solid-looking 4 game slate of NHL hockey. We should see some sloppy hockey tonight in a couple of spots as all but Pittsburgh, Vancouver, and Washington are on the last legs of a back-to-back. Below you’ll find some of my favorite picks for tonight.

NHL Picks
Kaapo Kahkonen Over 2.5 Goals Allowed
You’re going to notice a trend here, but I expect some offense in this Wild/Blue Jackets. Both teams have all but abandoned playing defense. Let’s start w/ the Wild. Over the last month, the Wild are giving up 4.43 goals per game.
No team in the NHL has given up more power-play goals over the last month than the Wild. Kahkonen has been especially bad as he’s given up at least 3 goals in 4 of his 5 and 14 goals in his last 3. With the state of the Wild’s play right now, I just don’t see how the Blue Jackets score less than 3 goals tonight.
Elvis Merzlikins Over 3.5 Goals Allowed
While the Blue Jackets haven’t been as bad as the Wild on the defensive side of things over the last month, they also haven’t been good. Elvis in particular has been bad. Over his 3 games, Elvis has given up 13 goals. Just not what you want to see out of your goalie.
Although the Wild defense has been atrocious, their offense has been keeping them afloat. Both of their top lines are always in play and between Boldy, Kaprizov, Fiala, and Zuc, they should put the puck in the back of the net quite a bit tonight. Wild should tag Elvis tonight for at least 4, if not more.
Kevin Fiala Over .5 Assists
When you get to play next to the red hot Matt Boldy, you’re bound to get some helpers! Last night Fiala had his fifth assist in his last 5 games and has 8 points over that stretch. I said it above and I’ll say it again, I love the Wild to put some goals tonight and Fiala will be a big part of that.
Most people gravitate to the top line of the Wild for scoring, but it’s actually been this second line that’s been extremely productive and Fiala has been a big part of it. Love him for at least 1 apple tonight.
Tristan Jarry Over 27.5 Saves
Vegas has not been scoring goals this season. Over the last month, they’re averaging just 2.18 goals per game. That said, they are shooting the puck a ton as they have 35.55 shots per game over that same stretch. With the Penguins giving up just a hair over 30 shots per game over the past month, I’m projecting Jarry at 31 saves tonight. That’s going to take us over the 27.5 saves project that PrizePicks is giving us.
