Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.
If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.
Tonight is an unusually small slate for a Tuesday night with only seven games When looking over the slate it appears that the goals will come from the early games. In the first half of the night (prior to 10 pm eastern) all four games carry a 6 or higher projected goal total, while all three 10 pm games have 5 1/2 over/under.
We have a couple of teams on the second night of a back-to-back on the road. Both Tampa Bay and Calgary are playing their second game in as many nights and both could be places to attack with lower-owned teams in Pittsburgh and New Jersey. I expect Colorado to carry the bulk of the ownership on this slate getting the downtrodden Vegas Golden Knights.
NHL DFS: Goaltenders
Cash Game Goalie:
Connor Hellebuyck ($8,300)
After a rough start to the season, Hellebuyck has turned it around the last two games, one of which was against the same Anaheim team he faces on Tuesday. Hellebuyck has won two straight starts stopping 64 of 69 shots. Despite beating the Jets earlier this season, Anaheim has only won once since then and was beaten by these Jets last week. Hellebuyck is not going to be in my lineups on Tuesday, but I do not play cash games, but if you do, Hellebuyck is the safest play on the slate.
Other Options: Darcy Kuemper (vs VGK), Cam Talbot (at Van)
GPP Goalies:
Tristan Jarry ($7.2K/$7.9K)
Jarry is off to a surprisingly great start this season going 3-0-1 in his first four starts and only allowing six goals in those games. On opening night, Jarry and Pens beat this Lightning team and Tampa hasn’t really recovered since. Tampa Bay is coming off a loss to the Sabres on Monday and has lost four of their first six and three straight. Could Tampa show up on Tuesday and put up a 6 spot, of course, but will they, doubtful. If you have been in discord this season you know how I love low-priced goalies, and Jarry fits that bill on Tuesday.
Other Options: Philipp Grubauer (vs MTL), James Reimer (at NSH), John Gibson (vs Winnipeg)
NHL DFS: Slate Overview
I mentioned in the open, Colorado is the number one place to go but for tournaments, I would look to go with the Av’s secondary scoring from their second and third lines. Tampa Bay is another spot you can go to for cash games, but in GPP’s they are a fade for me, especially in teams I am using Jarry.
On Tuesdays, we play Forsberg!
It’s Tuesday, so that means it’s Filip Forsberg day. This is a long-standing joke because, for a while, Forsberg scored on every Tuesday game. That is no longer the case, but in this matchup with San Jose, I think we get production out of Forsberg and his linemates. San Jose is averaging over five penalties taken per game, and the Nashville power-play has been firing early on.
This stack will not be cheap, with both Forsberg and Josi being priced over $7K on DK and over $6K on FD. Outside of those two, the rest of this stack can be had pretty cheap on both sites allowing you room to pay up elsewhere. If you use the three highest-priced pieces (Josi, Forsberg, Johansen) on DK with Jarry you have over $4.5K per player left which is plenty to build a solid lineup.
Looking for value? Head to the Garden State!
With the Flames on the second night of a back-to-back and their third game in four nights, I think New Jersey could be a great spot for value on Tuesday. With the exception of Dougie Hamilton and Nico Hischier, the majority of the players we’d want to use are all around $4K and under. New Jersey’s top line is in play with Hischier centering Janne Kuokkanen and Yegor Sharangovich, but it’s their second line that could be under 2% owned on Tuesday. Dawson Mercer centering Tomas Tatar and Pavel Zacha is an inexpensive stack. Tatar and Zacha see time with Hiscier and Hamilton on the top PP unit, while Mercer and Sharangovich are on the second PP unit with P.K. Subban and Ty Smith.
Other Potential Stacks:
I have already mentioned the Avalanche top line a few times and they are the overall top stack, and if you want to run them with value like the Devils mentioned above, or the top two lines from Seattle that would be where I would go.
First Lines: Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild
Other Lines: Colorado 2nd and 3rd, Minnesota 2nd, Pittsburgh 3rd, and PP1, Tampa Bay 2
