NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Nov. 1)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

1…2…3 game slate on tap!

We are looking at a small three-game slate on Monday night, but while this is a small slate I like it. There is going to be the one obvious spot that no matter what type of contests you play you will have to have exposure to, but I will show you ways to be different around the chalk. If you weren’t already able to figure it out, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are the chalk spot on the night. I will have some type of exposure to McDavid and the Oilers in every lineup I build on Monday. Edmonton gets the Seattle Kraken on the second night of a back-to-back on Monday. Also on the slate are the despicable Chicago Blackhawks hosting Ottawa and Washington traveling to Tampa.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Cash Game Goalie:

Mikko Koskinen vs Seattle

Koskinen is the ONLY option in net if you are playing cash on this slate. I don’t see any other of the five goalies being safe enough to consider for cash. In his last five starts, Koskinen is 4-1 with a 2.00 GAA and a .937 save %. Seattle has been improving offensively as the team gels but they aren’t a team to be afraid of at this point. With such a small slate you can use Koskinen for GPP’s as well, but just know he will probably be the highest owned goalie on the slate.

GPP Goalies:

Ottawa Senators Goalie

I hope that Filip Gustavsson gets the start for the Senators as he has been their best netminder this season. Gustavsson has started three games for Ottawa this season and he has been great in two starts but did have one dud. In his two great games (both against Dallas), Gustavsson has a 1.50 GAA and .957 save % with two wins. If Anton Forsberg starts it will be a much riskier play, but I might still roll with him because Chicago has been so bad. Both Andrei Vasilevskiy and whoever starts for the Capitals would probably be better options. I would lean more towards Vasi in this case as the home goalie and with the better team in front of him.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

After you plug your Oilers into your roster you will need to fill the rest out, unfortunately.

The Lightning brings the thunder!

Both teams in the Capitals/Lightning game are dealing with injuries, but the difference is that Tampa’s secondary scoring is stepping up while Washington’s is not. One player who is having a breakout campaign this year is Alex Killorn. So far in the 2021-22 season, Killorn is second on the team in points (9) and leads the Lightning in goals (6) in eight games. Killorn is also averaging two shots on goal per game. Killorn is still inexpensive on both sites and can be used with high-priced Oilers easily. To make a Tampa stack, I love using Steven Stamkos for a power-play stack. Yes, Stamkos is expensive, but there are some great options on the point for both Tampa and Edmonton that you can get great value with. One of those defensemen is Ryan McDonagh who is $4K or less on both DK and FD. McDonagh does not see PP time, but even without that he still plays over 22 minutes per game. McDonagh does a lot on the ice, he will take shots, block shots, and occasionally get on the scoreboard (four points in 8 games).

Other Tampa Options: Erik Cernak (Def), Anthony Cirelli (W), Ondrej Palat (W)

Northern Light-ing up the scoreboard

Ottawa is the perfect cheap team to pair with our high-priced Tampa and Edmonton stacks. Chris Tierney is one of the top options from Ottawa. Tierney is tied for second (Drake Batherson) on the Senators with four goals and is seeing time on the teams’ second PP unit. Chicago has allowed four power-play goals in their last five games so adding a Connor Brown or Tyler Ennis with Tierney makes a cheap power-play stack. If you need a defenseman from Ottawa, Artem Zub would be the play with the PP2 stack. Both Nikita Zaitsev and Nick Holden are cheap options to use in place of Zub. Holden and Zaitsev block a good amount of shots and will occasionally get on the scoreboard.

Other Ottawa Options: Josh Norris (C), Brady Tkachuk (W – L1 stack with Norris), Drake Batherosn (L1 stack)

Other line stack options:

Chicago PP1: Seth Jones/Jonathan Toews/Alex DeBrincat

Washington Line 1: Alex Ovechkin/Evgeny Kuznetsov/Tom Wilson or Martin Fehervary or Trevor van Riemsdyk (Def)

Seattle Line 2: Brandon Tanev/Yanni Gourde/Vince Dunn or Adam Larasson (Def)
