Battle of Alberta!
Welcome to the NHL Man Advantage for a Monday night! Tonight we have five games on the schedule with the most prominent one being the battle of Alberta. Edmonton heads into Calgary to take on their fiercest rivals in the Flames. As for the remaining four games on this slate, they all appear to be pretty lopsided, the most of which being the Panthers heading to Buffalo who are on the second night of a back-to-back.
Toronto which has been on a roller coaster lately is in Columbus in what should be a win for them, Colorado is on Long Island, and Boston hosts Los Angeles who themselves are on the second night of a back-to-back as they end their four-game road trip.
NHL Bets:
Florida Panthers Over 4.5 goals: +155
Boston Bruins PL -1.5: +135
(I typically do not bet NHL and therefore may not place a bet on any or all of the above bets. Use caution when betting)
NHL DFS: Goaltenders
- Jacob Markstrom (vs Edm): Markstrom has been money pretty much all season for Calgary, but especially in his last ten starts. During that time, Markstrom is 8-1-1 with a .930 sv % (that is insane!) and one shutout. Edmonton has done well against Markstrom this season beating him both times they’ve played this season. We all know that Edmonton’s offense is potent, but they have lost five of their last seven and have been outscored 26-19.
- Sergei Bobrovsky (@ Buf): Buffalo as shutout by Petersen and the Kings Sunday afternoon, and although it’s unlikely to happen again Monday, it should be an easy win for the Panthers. My only concern with this play is that Buffalo does not shoot much so giving up a couple of goals could sin Bob. There is also another concern here, Florida plays in Pittsburgh on Tuesday so there is a chance Bobrovsky doesn’t play. If that is the case, we are off Florida goalies all together and then turn to Buffalo as a value play.
- Ilya Sorokin (vs Col): This is your risky play on the night, but there is some potential here. Sorokin just played this team six days ago, and while he did allow 4 goals, he made 38 saves earning the 35+ save bonus and 15.6 DK points. If you’re playing cash games or even single-entry maybe stay away, but if you are doing multiple lineups and want to stack the battle of Alberta (especially if Vladar starts over Markstrom) then Sorokin would be your best goaltenind option salary wise and upside wise.
Other Options: Francouz/Kuemper (@ NYI), Swayman (vs LAK)
Teams to build around:
I am going to tell you something you already know here, Florida is the top play on this slate and this is the team we are going to build around. Pretty much every time they are on the slate you have to focus on the Panthers. Today we also have the Avalanche on the slate with them so their ownership could actually be lower than usual because of this. All nine forwards in the top three lines for Florida are in play as is Patric Hornqvist because of his involvement on the second power-play unit. On defense for the Panthers, Ekblad, Montour, or Weegar can be used with stacks.
Looking at Colorado, they are entirely similar to the Panthers. The difference is though, for Colorado I only want to look at their top two lines. Colorado’s depth isn’t as deep as Florida’s is, so the value isn’t as deep either. I do think you can pair either of the Av’s top two lines with the Panthers’ 3rd line and get exposure to both teams.
*** Reminder *** When I say stack that does NOT mean you need to stack the FULL forward line, you can but you don’t need to. You can either stack TWO forwards w/a defenseman, all three forwards, or just do a mini two-man stack.
Who else can we play?
We know we want exposure to Florida and Colorado, but you can’t only play those two teams, so we need some other spots that we can use with them.
The first place I want to look is Calgary. You could legitimately put the Flames as a team you want to build around with Florida and Colorado, so why not run a stack with those teams. It is actually pretty easy to do so because the Calgary depth is cheap (on DK). You can easily run a Col1, Fla3, Cgy2 lineup with Markstrom if you so desire. All three of Coleman, Mangiapane, and Backlund are underpriced on DK and easily fit with any combination of the aforementioned Colorado and Florida lines.
Boston is another team that works well with the others mentioned in this article. Any of their first three lines are good options on Monday. The obvious play is their top line, especially the value play of Jake DeBrusk. If you need some real value, a two-man stack of Trent Frederic and Craig Smith from L3 allows you the savings needs to pay up elsewhere. Boston also has some cheap defensemen in Mike Reilly and Brandon Carlo
If you’re not playing Markstrom in net, then you can also use Edmonton as a secondary stack or for a game stack with Calgary. Of course, Connor McDavid is always in play, but I actually prefer to go with line 2 from the Oilers as a stack. Both Evander Kane and Leon Draisaitl have been playing well with three goals each in their last five. Kailer Yamamoto has been good for his price as well picking up shots on goal and blocked shots.
Other Stacks:
Toronto L1: Bunting – Matthews – Marner
Columbus L1: Laine – Jenner – Nyquist
Los Angeles L2: Arvidsson – Danault – Moore (make sure to check for an update on Arvidsson as he left Sunday’s game)
New York L1: Bellows – Pageau – Palmieri (Value stack)
If Johansson starts for Florida, both Buffalo L1 and L2 are in play.
