NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Mar. 14)

Showdown in the Canadian capital

Monday night is a one-game slate between the Coyotes and Senators. This is an interesting game because it features two of the league’s bottom feeders that have actually been two of our favorite DFS teams this season. These two teams met fairly recently in Arizona with the home team winning 8-5. This will be a tough game to gauge because it depends on the goalie starting for Arizona.

Karel Vejmelka has been awful since the end of January. In eleven games since January 22nd, Vejmelka has allowed 41 goals which is an average of 3.72 goals per game. Scott Wedgewood is 5-4 in nine starts (10 appearances) since January 21st and has allowed just 2.7 goals per game in that stretch. Wedgewood did allow five goals to Ottawa in that game back on March 5th but did get the win. If Vejmelka starts, then I want to load up on Ottawa in my builds, but if it’s Wedgewood, then I could see a path to play him or go with a more balanced approach by stacking both teams.

NHL Bets:

I don’t have any bets for this game.

NHL DFS: Showdown

Ottawa Senators:

When I look at both teams, I think it makes more sense to pay up for the Senators and use the value that Arizona has to build. Ottawa’s top line is my favorite line in this game, especially Brady Tkachuk and Josh Norris. Over their last five games, both have been on fire for Ottawa. Norris has four goals in the last five with three coming on the power-play and Tkachuk has added three goals of his own with one on the power-play.

You’ve probably figured out where I’m going with this, a Senators pwer-play stack is where I think we should be looking. Arizona has allowed 16 power-play goals in their last 23 games, while Ottawa has scored eight power-play goals in their last 13 games. Tim Stutzle has one goal and six assists in his last five with four points coming on the power-play. Thomas Chabot is the point man on the power-play and while he only has two points on the PP in his last 5 he does have 16 shots on goal in his last five games. Colin White is the one value piece on this power-play unit. Connor Brown plays on the second unit and on the top line with Tkachuk and Norris. Ottawa’s second power-play unit is much cheaper but not as effective as the top unit but if you’re building multiple lineups you can go there.

Arizona Coyotes:

Arizona has some great value on this slate, now of course if you want to pay up for the Yotes you most definitely can. Their top line of Keller/Boyd/Schmaltz is on a hot streak right now and will be in a few of my builds. If you’re building one lineup I think the strategy of paying up for Ottawa and using the Yotes value is the way to go.

Matias Maccelli is one place to start for Arizona as the center for line 4. The 21 year old Finn has only played five games but has one goal and four assists in those games. Maccelli also sees over 14 minutes per game and time on the Coyotes second power-play unit. Oh, I buried the lead, he’s min price on DK. Lawson Crouse skates with Maccelli on line three and is another good value piece to use as a two man. Crouse can also be used as a cheap piece on a PP1 stack with the top line. Dysin Mayo has been on a roll recently for the Yotes and is a cheap dman to use. Jakob Chychrun has flown back to Arizona with an apparent back injury. It will be interesting to see if we can an update for the second power-play unit on Monday. Nick Ritchie and Loui Eriksson are both on the fourth line, min price, and have put up good numbers of late. Ritchie also sees time with Maccelli on the second power-play.
