Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.
If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.
Monday Night Showdown
Edmonton continues its trip through the Tri-State area here on the East Coast with a visit to Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers. This game seems like the type of game where we ignore goaltending and just stack up the skaters. Let’s just get into it!
NHL DFS: Goaltenders
None
No, really, I don’t think playing either goalie who starts is worth it on this slate. If you want to be different and take a chance on Alexander Georgiev, I get it. Edmonton shoots a lot, so the save bonus is a possibility on DK.
Now there is a caveat here. If Edmonton elects to go with Stuart Skinner in net then I have some interest on DK because of his salary. DraftKings priced him at $5,000, which is the minimum price for goalies on showdowns. Skinner could be worth a shot for the potential bonuses and his cheap price which allows some of the high-priced players in your lineups. This is a possibility because Mike Smith is potentially out injured again for the Oilers.
NHL DFS: Slate Overview
Both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are the top plays on this slate, but to fit them with the top Rangers, like Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, and Chris Kreider we need to find some value.
Kailer Yamamoto: Yamamoto is back in the good graces of Dave Tippett and is on the Oilers’ second line with Draisaitl and Devin Shore (a decent GPP punt). As well as playing on line 2, Yamamoto is skating on the team’s top PP unit. In his last four games, Yamamoto has five points.
Dryden Hunt: Hunt has only one point this season, but he is a cheap option that will get you the top guys you want. Hunt is not totally useless, he can pick up a couple of shots on goal and blocked shots.
Libor Hajek: Similar to Hunt, Hajek is not going to light up the score sheet with real points, but he can be a great punt play. Hajek does have an assist in his last five, but he is more likely to pick up a few shots or blocked shots. I don’t love this play, but Hajek has the most upside in the $2K price range that will allow you to get McDavid/Draisaitl/Yamamoto with two of the top Rangers.
Quik Hits:
Jesse Puljujarvi/Zach Hyman: Both play on Line 1 with McDavid making them good mid-tier options.
Ryan Strome: Strome has two goals and three assists in his last six games. Strome also centers the Rangers’ top PP unit.
Barclay Goodrow: Goodrow has two goals and an assist in the Rangers’ last two games. Goodrow and Strome pair up nicely for a two-man line 2 stack as well.
Evan Bouchard: He is a little pricey, but has big upside. Bouchard has four points in his last five games to go with 14 shots on goal and 10 blocked shots.
If Mikko Koskinen starts for Edmonton, my plan will be to play 4-5 Rangers with either McDavid or Draisaitl. Koskinen has been terrible in his last five starts. Koskinen has a 0-4-1 record with a .886 save % and is averaging four goals against per game.
