NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Jan. 25)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Welcome to another Forsberg Tuesday!

It’s Tuesday and the Nashville Predators are playing, so you know what that means! Nashville is one of many teams that are in great spots on Tuesday as they head to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Kraken in Seattle. On Monday both Minnesota and Dallas came through for us like expected. My only downfall was not trusting my disdain for Binnington and going heavier on the Flames. Hopefully, you all cashed! Let’s get at it for Tuesday now!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Unlike on Monday, we are loaded with goalies to choose from on this slate. I can’t pick just one to break down so instead I will rank my top ones for you in order of preference. There is a downside to the goalie selections tonight, they are all expensive. Luckily there is some good value in the skaters tonight (on DraftKings at least) that will allow us to fit in these expensive goalies.

  1. Juuse Saros ( @ Seattle) – Saros is the top goalie on the slate for me based on his current form and his matchup. In ten game since the start of January, Saros has only had 2 two games where he scored les than 19 DKFP and has had four games scoring 27+ DKFP.
  2. Tristan Jarry ( vs Arizona) – Jarry has been one of the top goaltenders in the league most of this season and a matchup at home where he is 10-3-2 with a .930 sv% means this should be another solid night for th All-Star.
  3. Ilya Sorokin ( vs Philadelphia) – Unfortunately we won’t know who is starting for the Islanders until pre-game warmups but with this not being a back-to-back situation I expect Sorokin to start. Sorkin is coming off a shutout of the Coyotes on Friday and beat this same Flyers team last week allowing just one goal.
  4. Aaron Dell ( @ Ottawa) – This is something I never thought I would write, but Aaron Dell is a decent fantasy option tonight. Dell hasn’t been good, as his 1-7-1 record, 3.92 GAA, and .893 sv% would indicate, but he has picked up some decent fantasy numbers of late. Dell is averaging 16.28 DKFP in his last four starts and has hit the 35+ save bonus twice in that span. It is a (very) risky play, but if you wanted to roll the dice on Dell tonight, I wouldn’t talk you out of it (if playing multiple GPP lineups)
  5. Frederick Andersen ( vs Vegas) – Vegas is on the back end of a road back-to-back and their offense did almost nothing last night. Andersen has been up and down of late but he seems to love playing Western Conference teams as a whole. In 13 starts against Western Conference teams, Andersen is 11-2-0 with a 1.92 GAA and a .934 sv%.

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Like with goalies, there are many ways you can go tonight on this slate. If you all have been playing with us here throughout the season then you know a lot of the line stacks we target regularly. I am going to do things a little differently today, I will give you a quick rundown of the top stacks that we normally go to, and break down a couple of the value ones to pair with them.

  • Pittsburgh Penguins L1 – Guentzel/Crosby/Rust: Home matchup with Arizona? Yeah, sign me up for this line! Dmen to use: Letang, Dumoulin, Matheson. Secondary stack: PP1 or L2 (Rodrigues/Malkin/Heinen)
  • Florida Panthers L1 – Hubrdeau/Barkov/Duclair, L2 – Verhaeghe/Bennett/Tippett, L3 – Vatrano/Lundell/Reinhart : In case you can’t tell, I really like Florida tonight, like on most nights. This team has a mix of top priced talent but also has some great value. I will have plenty of Panthers in my lienups tonight. Dmen to use: Ekblad, Weeger, Montour
  • Nashville Predators L1 – Forsberg/Granlund/Duchene: One of the most underrated lines in all of hockey and they can be your late night hammer tonight. I am locked in on this stack as one to build around tonight. Dmen to use: Josi, Ekholm, Carrier
  • Dallas Stars L1 – Robertson/Hintz/Pavelski: This line worked we on Monday so I am going right back to them tonight! Dmen to use: Lindell, Klingberg, Heiskanen
  • Edmonton Oilers PP1 – McDavid-Bouchard-Yamamoto-Puljujarvi-Draisaitl: Edmonton is a mess right now, but they have a matchup against the worst penalty kill in the entire league. Maybe this game helps them get back on track. It’s hard to keep two of the best players in the world down for too long, this team is due for another breakout game.
Carolina Hurricanes

This is not your typical value team, but there is some value in the Canes tonight. Vegas may turn to backup goalie Logan Thompson for his second career NHL start on Tuesday and we know how potent Carolina’s offense can be. Outside of Sebastian Aho, the remaining five forwards in their top 6 are $4.7K and under. Three of those wingers (Seth Jarvis, Martin Necas, and Nino Niederreiter) are priced in the low $3K range making Carolina a pretty affordable team to stack tonight.

This is something I rarely, if ever, do but with so many high-priced stacks on this slate I have interest in a fourth line tonight. Carolina’s fourth line has been productive lately and they are all incredibly cheap. The line of Derek Stepan, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Josh Leivo have combined for four goals and five assists in their last five games. Kotkaniemi plays on the second PP unit as well making him the priority of this stack. I know this seems out there and it may not work and they all may score zero’s tonight but they are worth the risk to fit two top stacks into your builds. Dmen to use: Slavin, Cole, DeAngelo

Other Value Stacks to consider:

Nashville Predators L3: Trenin/Sissons/Jeannot

NY Islanders L2: Bailey/Nelson/Beauvillier – This line could be one of the top plays on the slate when it’s all said and done tonight. Josh Bailey has five points in his last five (3G 2A), and Nelson and Beauvillier have four each. Dmen to use: Dobson, Mayfield

Seattle Kraken L2: Jarnkrok/Gourde/Appleton – If it appears Saros will be popular then it’s worth a shot at using a Seattle stack. This combo has been their most consistent line of late. Dmen to use: Larsson, Fleury

NJ Devils Line 3: Jonsson/Mercer/Zacha – Dmen to use: Severson, Jaros

Ottawa Senators L2: Formenton/Stutzle/Batherson – This line doesn’t really qualify as a value stack, but they all have been playing outstanding in the last five games that I want to have some exposure to this line. Dmen to use: Holden, Zub, Chabot (if you can afford to pay up at D)
