NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Jan. 17)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Two slate Monday!

We have two slates this Monday with the first beginning at 3 PM eastern and consisting of four games while the “main” slate is a 3 gamer starting at 7:30 PM eastern. Even though the contest selection on both slates is bad I will still give you a quick rundown on my top plays from both slates.

Early Slate:

NHL DFS: Goaltenders:

Marc-Andre Fleury is the top play on this slate at goalie for me. Flower is under $8K ($7.8K) which you all know my stance on that and he has been fantastic in his last four starts. The reigning Vezina winner is 4-0 with just five goals allowed and a .959 save % in those four starts. Seattle does not pose much of a threat in my eyes and should offer a fifth straight win for the future Hall-of-Famer.

Whoever is in net for the Kings would be my number 2 pick in net on this slate. LA has been rolling of late and both goalies have been playing well. With the Kings on the front end of a back-to-back we would expect to see one goalie today and the other tomorrow, I just don’t know which will play on the road in SJ today and at home to Tampa tomorrow. Cal Petersen has been outstanding since his return from injury/COVID and has started three of four games since his Jan 8th return, winning all three and allowing just 2 goals. Jonathan Quick has won three of his last four starts allowing eight goals in those four games. The only downside here is the Kings have been stout defensively and have not been allowing shots on goal. Both goalies have only made more than 30 saves once in the last eight games.

Other Options: Kaapa Kahkonen (@ Col): I know Colorado is not generally a team we play goalies against, especially at home, but Kahkonen has been red-hot. Kahkonen has achieved the 35+ save bonus on DK twice in his last three starts and is 3-0 in those starts. I like Kahkonen as a GPP pivot off potential chalk Avalanche on Monday. Karel Vejmelka ( vs MTL)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Colorado’s top two lines are the top projected lines on this slate and will most likely be popular on such a small slate. I will most likely have a share of them, but I will also be playing Kahkonen in at least one lineup. We all have been playing these lines a lot recently so I will not waste your time breaking them down. Let’s see who else is in play on Monday afternoon.

Top Stacks:

Minnesota 1 (Kaprizov/Hartman/Zuccarello) – Colorado has been susceptible defensively of late which makes me like the Wild in this game to put up a few goals. Outside of their last game when they shut out Arizona, Colorado has allowed 15 goals in their previous four. Minnesota has scored 21 goals in their last five games so I expect goals and shots aplenty in this game. (betting tip, bet the over!!!). Outside of the Wild’s top unit, their second line should also interest you. Matt Boldy has two goals and an assist in his first three games in the NHL and is min priced. Boldy also skates on the top power-play unit with the top line so he is one of my favorite plays on this slate for those reasons.

Los Angeles 2 (Moore/Danault/Arvidsson) – This line has arguably been the Kings’ best unit of late and they are still pretty cheap as a line stack. All three are averaging over three shots on goal per game and have combined for six goals in their last five games (Danault has four). Moore has seven points during this stretch and is still just $3K on DraftKings.

Other Stacks: Arizona 1 (Crouse/Larsson/Kessel ) – Montreal has been giving up goals in bunches of late! Chicago 1 (Hagel/Reichel/Kane), San Jose 1(Balcers/Hertl/Meier), Chicago 2 (DeBrincat/Toews/Kubalik)

Now, on to the main slate!

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Ilya Sorokin and the Islanders are home to the Flyers tonight on the front end of a home and home. These two teams will play again in Philly on Tuesday. Semyon Varlamov played on Saturday against the Capitals and played exceptionally, so my guess is Sorokin plays on Monday and Varly is back in on Tuesday. Either way, both goalies are in play on both nights for me. In his last start, which was the Islanders’ first game in 12 days, Sorokin stopped 30 of 32 shots on his way to a win against New Jersey. Philadelphia has lost seven straight and has only managed to score more than two goals once in those seven games, I see that trend continuing on Monday.

Juuse Saros does have a reasonably tough matchup with St. Louis on Monday, but he is cheap ($7.5K) and has been outstanding of late. The Blues do still have a few players in COVID protocols so they may not be at full strength on Monday which would help this play as well. Since the start of December, Saros is 10-3-1 in fourteen starts with a .931 save % and just 33 goals allowed (2.35 GAA). Saros has given up two goals or less in nine of those fourteen starts as well.

Other Options: Tristan Jarry ( @ VGK), Ville Husso (vs NSH)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

My teams to build around is more of a game to build around in his case. Pittsburgh is winding down their west coast swing with a game in Vegas on Monday night and it should be a high-scoring affair. Both teams are offensively proficient and I expect the over to be smashed in this one.

Pittsburgh 1 (Guentzel/Crosby/Rust): Pittsburgh will be getting Bryan Rust back from the COVID list on Monday and is expected to slot right back into his role alongside Crosby and Guentzel. In three games before going on the COVID list and coming off the injured list, Rust picked up seven goals and four assists. As long as he is feeling 100% Rust should be in line for another huge night on Monday while coming in at a cheap price tag of $5.6K.

Evan Rodrigues will now slot back down to the Pens’ second line alongside Jeff Carter and Evgeni Malkin. This line should be on your radar as well and will probably go overlooked in favor of the top line. Dmen to use: Kris Letang, Brian Dumoulin, John Marino

Vegas 1 (Marchessault/Karlsson/Smith): Until Max Pacioretty returns to the ice, I will always look to the Golden Knights’ second line as my first choice when stacking the team. They are a perfect complement to the Penguins’ top line tonight for a game stack and work should be the line that does the damage in this game for Vegas. Dmen to use: Pretty much anyone other than Ben Hutton.

Other stacks to consider:

St. Louis 2 (Kyrou/Thomas/Saad) – Dmen to use: Niko Mikkola, Justin Faulk

Philadelphia 1 (Atkinson/Giroux/Farabee) – Dmen to use: Ivan Provorov, Cam York

Nashville 1 (Forsberg- if he is back/Granlund/Duchene) – Dmen to use: Roman Josi, Dante Fabbro

New York 2 (Bellows/Nelson/Beauvillier) – Dmen to use: Noah Dobson, Adam Pelech
