NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Feb. 8)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Tuesday night delight

After a weak two-game slate on Monday, the NHL is back on Tuesday with a solid seven-game slate. Included on this slate are three of the four teams who played on Monday (only Toronto isn’t playing on Tuesday). We also have a battle of two of my favorite goalies on the late-night part of the slate and a”chalky” Caps team that I may or may night want to stack up

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

Kaapo Kahkonen ( @ Winnipeg)

Kahkonen has been solid in net for the Wild this season but unfortunately, Minnesota prefers to use Talbot as their #1 so we haven’t seen enough of Kahkonen of late. Since January 6th, Kahkonen is 6-0-1 and is averaging over 35 saves per game during this stretch. Minnesota allows a lot of shots, obviously, and Winnipeg takes a lot of shots (9th most in the NHL on the season) so Kahkonen should have a heavy workload on Tuesday.

Thatcher Demko/Karel Vejmelka

These are two goalies who seem to always stir up a bit of controversy in discord of late but they are both good goalies who tend to have outstanding performances on occasions this season. Demko is definitely the better of the two goalies and has been more consistent. Demko is the more expensive goalie, but this should also keep his ownership down which makes him a good GPP play. Before losing his last start, Demko was 2-0-1 in his previous three starts allowing just 4 goals and making 31 saves per game.

As for Vejmelka, he is a more volatile play but has had many a huge upside game. There should be plenty of opportunities for Vejmelka to make saves as Vancouver is a top 15 team in shots. There is plenty of risk involved with this play, but we have seen him have huge games this season and the potential is there for Vejmelka on Tuesday.

Other Options: Robin Lehner ( @ Edmonton), Ilya Samsonov (vs Columbus), Jeremy Swayman (vs Pittsburgh)

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Washington Capitals

After testing positive for COVID last week, Alexander Ovechkin is eligible to return for the Caps on Tuesday and that is one thing we will need to watch for. I am going to go on the basis that we will see the Great 8 back on the ice and not on his couch eating cereal with Backy. Ovi will slot right back in with Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson on the top line making this my favorite line stack on the slate. Washington’s second line is also in a great spot with Nicklas Backstrom underpriced on DK ($4.7K) centering Conor Sheary and Daniel Sprong two other cheap options. John Carlson is the top option on defense for the Caps, but he hasn’t been that productive recently. Both Dimitri Orlov and Trevor van Riemsdyk offer similar upside to Carlson lately at $3-4K less.

Other top stacks to consider:

  • Vegas L1: Pacioretty-Stephenson-Stone, Vegas L2: Smith-Karlsson-Marchessault – Dmen to use: Pietrangelo, Theodore,
  • Carlina L2: Svechnikov-Trocheck-Jarvis – Dmen to use: DeAngelo, Slavin, Skjei
  • Boston L1: Marchand-Bergeron-Smith, Boston L2: Hall-Nosek-Pastrnak – Dmen to use: McAvoy, Reilly
  • Minnesota L1: Kapriov-Hartman-Zuccarello, Minnesota L2: Fiala-Gaudreau-Boldy (can use Boldy w/L1 for PP stack) – Dmen to use: Spurgeon, Goligoski, Merrill
  • Edmonton L1: Kane-McDavid-Yamamoto, Edmonton L3 : Hyman-RNH-Puljujarvi – Dmen to use: Nurse, Ceci, Lagesson — Edmonton second player salaries are too high in my opinion. I can see why you would want to play them, but I think there are better options for your money.
  • Pittsburgh L1 : Rust-Crosby-Guentzel – Dmen to use: Letang, Dumoulin

Value Stack:

Montreal Canadiens

This is actually more of a game stack situation, but I want to focus on the Canadiens since they didn’t play on Monday and the Devils did. Both the Canadiens first and third lines are the line stacks I am interested in. Nick Suzuki is my favorite on the top line but both Tyler Toffoli and Artturi Lehkonen are solid plays. As for line three, Mike Hoffman is the top play from that line and he can be used with any of the three line one skaters for a power-play stack with Chris Wideman on defense. Christain Dvorak centers the third line and makes for a nice mini-stack with Hoffman. Ben Chiarot and Jeff Petry are other dmen you can use. Unfortunately, FD pricing is atrocious and the Canadiens are priced up over there so they don’t really count as value.

Other value stacks to consider:

  • Ottawa L2: Formenton-Paul-Brown
  • Vancouver L2: Pearson-Horvat-GarlandDmen to use: Ekman-Larsson, Hunt, Myers
  • Carolina L3: Niederreiter-Staal-Fast
  • Columbus L4: Robinson-Kuraly-Chinakhov Dmen to use: Werenski, Boqvist, Peeke
  • New Jersey L1: Sharangovich-Hischier-Bratt – Dmen to use: Severson, Graves, Siegenthaler
