NHL DFS Man Advantage for DraftKings and FanDuel (Feb. 15)

Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.

If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.

Happy Forsberg Tuesday!

Welcome back to another Filip Forsberg Day! Tonight Nashville hosts the Capitals, the team that drafted Forsberg. That matchup is one of the premier games on the slate. We also have Boston at MSG to take on the Rangers and the Stars traveling to Colorado. As for the remaining six games on the slate, they don’t seem as big but are still good games for us to target in DFS.

NHL DFS: Goaltenders

  1. Igor Shesterkin ( vs Boston): Boston is a one-line team essentially and with 2/3 of that one line out the lineup they don’t pose much of a threat. Shesterkin is having a great season for the Rangers as well and this matchup just screams big night for the Russian.
  2. Juuse Saros ( vs Washington): You all know I love Saros and while he has burned me a few times this season, more often than not he is one of the top goalies on every slate. Since the start of the new year, Saros is 9-4-2 while averaging 34.3 save per game. Saros is not expensive on either site tonight and once again has the potential to be the top goalie on the slate
  3. Jacob Markstrom ( vs Columbus): Markstrom is actually cheaper on FanDuel today, so he might be the better play over there tonight. Either way, Markstrom is one of the top goalies in the NHL this season and leads the league in shutouts (8), doubling up the goalie with the next most. Markstrom has a home matchup with Columbus tonight so a 9th shutout is not out of the realm of possibilities.
  4. Matt Murray ( vs St. Louis): This is your super risky, high reward play of the night. Murray has been absolutely stellar since returning from injury on January 1st. Murray is averaging just 2.2 goals per game and making 33 saves per game in his 10 games since January 1st. If you remove the 6 goals he allowed on 1/1 to Toronto his goals-against goes down to 1.7. This is risky like I said but Murray has held his own against teams like Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Carolina, and Washington lately so why not tonight against the Blues.

Other Options: Pavel Francouz, Tristan Jarry, Andrei Vasilevskiy

NHL DFS: Slate Overview

Teams to build around:

Colorado Avalanche

I know this may upset some people, ok one person (sorry GravMatt) but Colorado is one of the top teams on the slate. There are teams with “easier” matchups than Colorado but Dallas has been porous defensively in recent games. In their last 6 games, Dallas has allowed four goals or more in five of them, including four to Colorado on Sunday.

If you know anything about hockey, then you know the Av’s top line is one of the top lines in all of the NHL, but also one of the most expensive ones to stack in DFS. They are the best play on this slate but since they are so obvious I want to look for some value as well to get you exposure to Colorado in other ways especially for those playing on FD. For value, I will look to line 2 from Colorado. Both Valeri Nichushkin and Andre Burakovsky are affordable and have been playing well for the Avs. Nichushkin has four points and is averaging 4 shots on goal in the Av’s last five games and Burakovsky has three assists in that same span. Nazim Kadri has seven points in the last five for the Av’s, but he is only a play on DK because FanDuel does not know what they are doing and has him priced at $10K (second-highest on the slate).

Other Value: Both JT Compher and Logan O’Connor play on the third line and kill penalties for Colorado. They are both min price on DK and in the $4K range on FD. If you need some cheap plays to fill out a lineup they are viable.

Defensemen: Cale Makar is the top dman for the Av’s but his production has not been matching his price lately. Devon Toews has been more productive from a DFS aspect and is much cheaper (on DK) so he is my preferred play. Erik Johnson and Samuel Girard offer up some decent value.

Buffalo Sabres

I know what you’re thinking, but Buffalo has been better offensively in the last ten games. They are not the sexiest team and I am probably taking a big risk suggesting them tonight but with so many top teams on this slate, they will go overlooked and could give you a shot at a takedown. Jeff Skinner is coming off a four-goal game on Sunday and both Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch have been equally as hot. Since Tuch debuted for the Sabres on 12/29 it has turned this team in the right direction. Tuch himself has 17 points in his 15 games with the Sabres including five multi-point games. Buffalo’s problem isn’t scoring, it’s stopping teams from scoring so this is a game stack consideration as well.

Sabres Dmen: Rasmus Dahlin (PP1), Casey Fitzgerald (cheap and productive)

If you want to stack the Isles with Buffalo tonight, I would suggest their third line. This line has been as productive as the top two lines in the team’s last five games and comes at a much lower price. If you are just looking at a two-man stack, then Zach Parise (PP2) and Oliver Wahlstrom (PP1) would be my suggestion. On Defense, Noah Dobson (PP1) is the Isles’ top fantasy defenseman, but Ryan Pulock (PP2) is right behind Dobson production-wise and much cheaper.

Top Stacks

Pittsburgh L1: Guentzel – Crosby – Rust (all 3 on PP1), Dmen to use: Letang (PP1), Matheson, Dumoulin

Nashville L1: Forsberg – Granlund – Duchene (All 3 on PP1), Dmen to use: Josi (PP1), Ekholm (PP2), Carrier

Dallas L1: Robertson – Hintz – Pavelski (All 3 on PP1), Dmen to use: Lindell, Heiskanen

Calgary L1: Gaudreau – Lindholm – Tkachuk (All 3 on PP1) – You can use Monahan as a PP1 value piece over one of the forwards. Dmen to use: Tanev, Hanifin (PP2), Andersson (PP1)

Tampa Bay L1: Kucherov (PP1)- Point (PP1) – Palat (PP2). Dmen to use: Hedman (PP1), Sergachev (PP2), Ruuta
