Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for the 2021-22 season.
If you are new to my articles, NHL, or WinDaily Sports then I will tell you that my articles are not going to give you the chalk plays or the obvious plays. I try to dig in and find ways for you to build lineups for GPP contests. I will always point out those top plays to help you build cash but that is not the point of this article.
Another COVID shortened slate
Monday is now down to just two games with the news that the NHL has stopped teams from Canada coming into the United States and vice versa. This slate now features just Columbus at the Sabres in Buffalo and then in the late game Minnesota goes to Texas to take on the Stars.
Since this is such a small slate I will not be going too deep into detail for these games like I typically do.
NHL DFS: Goaltenders
Looking at the four potential starters on this slate and the current run each team is on, I don’t want to roster any of them, but we have to, so here it goes.
- Elvis Merzlikins (or Korpisalo): Buffalo allows the 2nd most shots in the leauge and only one team allows more, and that team would be Columbus. Buffalo has only scored 12 goals in their last 5 games. On a slate where no goalie really seems like a good play, Merzlikins is the best of the bunch
- Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (or Malcom Subban): Like I mentioned above, Buffalo allows the second most shots in the NHL so whoever is in net for the Sabres should see plenty of rubber. Another spot I wouldn’t normally suggest but on this slate we are looking for shot volume and ways to be different. Merzlikins will possibly be the chalk play, so in a game that could go to either team, I will prefer to take the contrarian play.
- Cam Talbot (or Kappo Kahkonen): Dallas’ offense is not that great, yes they can have good nights, but I don’t fear them. Talbot would be higher on the list, but the Stars don’t usually shoot enough for goalies to make value against them. In their last 7 games, Dallas has only scored 11 goals.
- Braden Holtby (or Jake Oettinger): Just like the Stars don’t shoot much, they also don’t allow shots on goal either. I think Minnesota is the top team to stack on this slate, so I don’t plan on rostering whoever starts for the Stars on Monday.
NHL DFS: Slate Overview
Teams to build around:
Minnesota Wild:
Like I wrote above, I think Minnesota is the top team to stack on this slate with their second line being the line I want to target.
Minnesota 2: Greenway – Eriksson Ek – Foligno
Minnesota 1 is also a solid line, but they are expensive. If you want to pay up then Minnesota 1 is a solid choice.
Defensemen: Alex Goligoski, Jared Spurgeon
Buffalo Sabres:
When you first look at the Sabres there isn’t much to like, but on this slate, they do present good upside and great value.
Buffalo 3: Asplund – Eakin – Hinostroza
This line has been productive and is all min priced on DK. If I have the salary, I will look at the Sabres’ top two lines as well. Running a PP stack isn’t a bad idea, using Tage Thompson, Jeff Skinner, and Dylan Cozens.
Defensemen: Rasmus Dahlin, Henri Jokiharju
Other Options:
- Columbus 3 (Domi – Roslovic – Voracek)
- Buffalo 2 (Okposo – Cozens – Murray)
- Minnesota 1 (Kaprizov – Hartman – Zuccarello)
- Dallas 1 (Pavelski – Hintz – Robertson)
- Colmbus 1 (Texier – Jenner – Bjorkstrand)
