Welcome to the NHL DFS Man Advantage for a Tuesday night! We have a huge 9 game slate tonight that is frontloaded with the top teams playing early, but could there be a sneaky late-night hammer? Let’s find out!
With only two of the nine games tonight carrying an over/under of 6 this has the makings of a low-scoring slate. Pittsburgh is at the Rangers tonight in their first game since getting trounced by Boston. Carolina host Florida in the other game with the 6 goal o/u. Both of these games are on my radar tonight, as well as a few others. Let’s dig in and see if we can’t find some green tonight!
NHL DFS: Goaltenders
Cash Game Goalie:
Juuse Saros ($8,100/$7,600) vs Detroit
Saros and the Preds are in MoTown to take on the Red Wings tonight who just put up 5 goals on Sunday against Tampa. I can’t give Detroit all the credit for those goals, most of them were a result of bad goaltending or lucky bounces. Saros is a thousand times better goaltender then Christopher Gibson and should handle himself well tonight against the Wings. In his last 5 starts, Saros has averaged 30 saves per game and allowed just 1.4 goals per game. In two starts against Detroit this season (3 games played), Saros has stopped 56 of 58 shots and allowed just 2 goals for a sv% of .966.
Other Cash Options: Andrei Vasilevskiy ($8,500/$8,600), Mackenzie Blackwood ($8,000/$6,800) – Are you serious FD with this pricing?, Martin Jones ($7,900/$7,800)
GPP Goalie:
Linus Ullmark ($7,200/$6,700) vs New Jersey
Ullmark and the Sabres get very little respect and love from the DFS community, and rightfully so. But when there is a matchup that just screams out to us to play them, we must! Ullmark has actually been pretty solid in net for the Sabres of late with back-to-back wins while stopping 59 of 62 shots in those contests. Believe it or not, Ullmark is actually undefeated in 4 starts against New Jersey this season. Ullmark is 4-0 with a .949 save% against the Devils this season, stopping 112 of 118 shots faced. With nine games on the slate, and 18 goalies to pick from I think Ullmark could be criminally under-owned and help someone get a takedown tonight.
Other GPP Options: Ilya Sorokin ($7,800/$8,100), Chris Driedger ($7,400/$8,300), Dan Vladar ($7,700/$8,000), Casey DeSmith ($7,700/$8,00)
NHL DFS: Line Stacks
Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Rangers
Like I mentioned in the open this game is one of the two with the highest projected goal total on the slate so we will want to try and get exposure to it. I really like what the Penguins’ top line has done versus the Rangers this season. Pittsburgh’s top-line trio of Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, and Bryan Rust have combined for 8 goals and 4 assists in 6 games. Both of the wingers have amassed incredible shot totals against NY as well this season. Guentzel has 23 SOG in 6 games, while Rusty has hit the net 28 times in 6 games. I love seeing these totals because that means we don’t need to solely rely on them scoring multiple points to make value. Kris Letang ($6,100/$5,800) is the top point man on the power-play for Pitt, but we can also use Mike Matheson ($3,400/$3,600). Matheson has points in three straight games but is only a GPP play because he is point-dependent to make value.
As for the NY side of things, both of their top lines are in play as well. All three lines I have mentioned are expensive on both sites and should be considered your top stack on the night. Colin Blackwell ($2,600/$3,500) is back on line 2 with Strome and Panarin and is a nice inexpensive piece to help keep your stack down or paired up with Pavel Buchnevich ($6,000/$5,600) for a PP2 mini-stack. Another interesting player to keep in mind is superstar prospect Vitali Kravtsov for the Rangers. He is min price on both sites and saw over 10 minutes of ice time in his NHL debut Saturday. Adam Fox ($6,800/$5,900) is the only defenseman I would recommend from the Rangers, but I prefer him on FD to DK.
San Jose Sharks
San Jose’s top line is one of my favorite stacks and they are that late-night hammer I mentioned in the open. If you don’t want to pay up for either of the Rangers or Penguins’ top lines, then San Jose is where I would go for GPP stacks. Anaheim is terrible in their own zone and has allowed teams to just pepper their netminders, especially in high danger zones. They are allowing 4 goals a game in their last 3, and are 29th in the league in goals allowed on the season. San Jose put up 9 goals in early March in their last two games against Anaheim with the top line of Evander Kane, Logan Couture, and Kevin LaBanc doing the bulk of the damage. San Jose’s second and third lines are also decent value, especially Ryan Donato ($3,400/$3,300) who plays on the second power-play unit. Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns, and Mario Ferraro are the three d-men you can use with these lines as well.
Florida Panthers
We all know about Florida’s top two lines as being great line stacks and are two of the top cash lines for tonight’s slate. If you need value and want exposure to the Panthers tonight, I would look at the third line tonight. Both the top lines are in play of course for tournaments of course, but to be different and gain an ownership advantage I would look at the third line of Noel Acciari, Frank Vatrano, and Owen Tippett. Vatrano is on a 3 game goal-scoring streak and has amassed 16 shots in those three games. All three are on the Panthers’ 2nd power-play unit as well. This line projects at a high floor for their price as well, meaning they are safe for cash game value as well.
Cash game Line stacks:
I already mentioned a bunch of good cash game stacks in Pittsburgh, New York, and Florida, but there are some other teams that can anchor your lineups tonight in cash games. I really like both of the top lines from Washington and Chicago tonight as higher-owned cash game lines. Carolina 1 is always a good play, but I prefer Carolina 2 tonight. They have the safer floor and Vincent Trocheck against his former team is a great narrative play as well. Philadelphia 2 and Boston 1 both performed well last night and I have no problem going back there tonight.
As for some other value plays, one of my favorite lines is Chicago 3. They are cheap and give you exposure to both PP units. Boston 3 and NY Islanders 3 are two other 3rd lines I really like tonight as well. Nashville 2 has to be in consideration against Detroit tonight also.
