We have officially entered the final week of the NHL regular season. This week brings us a few big slates, starting with tonight, as we get 10 games to look at. It is important in this last week to keep an eye on news, as some teams may be sitting key players to rest them for the playoffs. Let’s find the best NHL DFS plays for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!
Goalies
Philipp Grubauer – Seattle Kraken: Grubauer has not been on our list too often this season, as his numbers have been pretty inconsistent. However, as of late, he has been looking solid, and he gets a date with the Coyotes tonight. This is a safer, limited upside play that can be considered for cash games.
Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: Another cash consideration is Otter for the Stars, as they take on the Red Wings in Detroit tonight. The Stars have been very limiting on defense, and should be able to limit the already stagnant Detroit offense.
Igor Shesterkin – New York Rangers: This play is a bit riskier, as the Rangers take on Buffalo tonight on home ice. The Sabres have been generating chances over their last five, so this is a solid upside play. Igor should be able to handle the Sabres offense tonight.
Frederik Andersen – Carolina Hurricanes: The Canes head to Ottawa tonight to face the Sens, and Freddie has been playing well of late. There should be some upside here, as Carolina has limited chances, but Ottawa still shoots the puck quite a bit.
High Risk Goalie Pick – Mads Sogaard – Ottawa Senators: This one is very, very, very risky. Sogaard has some awful numbers over his last five games, and Carolina is a good team. However, Carolina has only been scoring 1.6 goals per game over their last five, and they shoot the puck a ton. This is a very interesting spot for Sogaard tonight that could come with some huge upside. If you do go here, don’t stack Carolina against him in the same lineup.
Others to Consider: Alex Lyon (FLA), Alex Stalock (CHI), Ilya Samsonov (TOR), Ilya Sorokin (NYI), Connor Hellebuyck (WPG)
Lines to Build Around
These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).
Winnipeg Jets 1 – Pierre-Luc Dubois/Mark Scheifele/Kyle Connor/Josh Morrissey: This line is in a fantastic spot tonight and should be the play of the night. Keep an eye on the news though, because it is possible that Connor sits, and if he does, we have to see who slots in for him. If not, then this is the top play on the board tonight.
New York Rangers 1 – Mika Zibanejad/Chris Kreider/Patrick Kane/Adam Fox: The Rangers’ top line should see a good bit of the depth for the Sabres tonight in a very nice matchup. There should be plenty of chances to score tonight, and this is the line that we will want to play. You can also consider NYR3 to be different tonight, but they carry a lot more risk.
Dallas Stars 1 – Roope Hintz/Joe Pavelski/Jason Robertson/Miro Heiskanen: The top line for the Stars has a date with the second line for the Red Wings tonight in a great matchup. Replace Pavelski with Benn in this look for a power play and different look.
High Risk Lines
These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).
Calgary Flames 2 – Mikael Backlund/Andrew Mangiapane/Jonathan Huberdeau: This second line for the Flames should see a bunch of the second line for the Preds in a plus matchup. The risk here is that Saros has been decent in net and could limit the upside of this line. However, Nashville has been bleeding chances over their last five, so there is still some reason to play these guys tonight.
Carolina Hurricanes Power Play – Sebastian Aho/Seth Jarvis/Martin Necas/Teuvo Teravainen/Brent Burns: This play is more about the fact that the top two lines are in good spots tonight, rather than the actual power play matchup. There should be plenty of opportunities for both top lines, and this approach gets you exposure to both.
Chicago Blackhawks 2 – Jonathan Toews/Jason Dickinson/Tyler Johnson: This line should see the third line for the Wild tonight in a very, very nice matchup. They are very risky, since it’s Chicago, but are worth a look in a deep GPP.
Dallas Stars 2 – Wyatt Johnston/Evgenii Dadonov/Jamie Benn: This line has a great matchup tonight as well against the top line for the Red Wings. They should come in significantly lower owned and are worth a shot as a value line.
NHL DFS Honorable Mentions: SEAPP, NSH2, TORPP, FLA2, LAKPP
Value Options – DraftKings
