11/4 NHL Favorite Popular Line
Pittsburgh One – “Sidney Crosby ($8,000), Bryan Rust ($5,800), Jake Guentzel ($7,500)” – Prioritize the first two skaters
With such a huge slate, ownership is not an issue. On that note, I’m surprised the Penguins are only -230 favorites despite that still being the biggest favorite on the slate. Perhaps it is because they are traveling to the West Coast for this one, there could be no other reason. They will be matching up with our favorite whipping post this season, the San Jose Sharks. It is certainly no secret they have been awful this far. They are 0-9 on the season “only one such loss was in overtime” and coming off a 10-1 home loss to the Canucks “in which J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser did the Hot Shot justice”.
It just so happens that Pittsburgh One leads all NHL lines in SATF “157” which encompasses all shot attempts. They are also third among all NHL lines with nine line-oriented goals. With the size of the slate, we have to pick an odd man out and I think that’s Jake Guentzel, at least on DraftKings. Guentzel only has two goals on the season so for $7,500 it’s just a bit too much. Sidney Crosby is the primary catalyst for the line and fills a center spot and Bryan Rust “five goals, two assists” is simply too cheap at $5,800. With the bigger slate, we will want to use third two-man stacks to try to capture production.
11/4 NHL Favorite Contrarian Line
New York Rangers Two – “Vincent Trocheck ($4,500), Artemi Panarin ($6,800), Alexis Lafreniere ($3,600)”– prioritize the first two skaters
This season the Rangers have been known more for their defensive prowess. They are also dealing with a number of injuries. This is a pick ’em matchup with the Rangers traveling to Minnesota and only a six total, what gives? Well, I think this is a sneaky spot with the Wild allowing a ton of goals as of late. Using the Rangers’ top line in two-man form with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider is not the worst move either. However, when you look up at the graphic above you can see this line is fourth in the NHL in SATF “122”. As a result, they are generating a lot of opportunities. With Filip Chytil’s injury, Vincent Trocheck has moved up to the second line and now also features on the top power-play unit for only $4,500. As for Artemi Panarin, he has been an absolute machine with 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in 10 ten games so far. Let’s fire up this contrarian two-man as one of our three two-man pairings.
Defensemen and Goalies
Defensemen
K’Andre Miller – New York Rangers -$3,100 – Back to well here as there’s been no significant price increase. On a slate like this we simply can’t spend money on defensemen. He should be seeing some extra time “as with all Rangers defensemen” now that the star of the Ranger’s defense, Adam Fox, is on the IR. I’ll have you know, it is well documented I am not a Rangers fan of any sort, but I have to write what I see.
Kevin Shattenkirk – Boston Bruins – $3,800 – He hasn’t done anything yet this season, but wit Charlie McAvoy’s four-game suspension, Kevin Shattenkirk is filling his role. Just the fact he is quarterbacking the Bruins’ power-play unit for under $4,000 is enough here.
Goalie
Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars – $8,000 – With a six total this is projected to be one of the lowest-scoring games on the slate. Jake Oettinger has been putting up Vezina Trophy-winning numbers so far “1.95 GAA, .939 SV %”. He also remains undefeated in regulation this season, fire him up!
Jonathan Quick – New York Rangers – $7,800 – It feels like Rangers overload for a thirteen-game slate and he’s only had two starts so far but what starts they have been. He has a 0.41 GAA and .982 SV % and it’s fair to say that is nowhere near sustainable and his numbers will only digress. He should see a fair amount of shots too, so high risk, high reward.
Ilya Sorokin – New York Islanders – $7,800 – He didn’t get the start when I wrote him up Thursday and Semyon Varlamov ate in his absence. However, today he has been confirmed in net early. Here we have another 5.5 total game which bodes well for Sorokin. The Islanders are slight underdogs but figure it will be the defense/goaltending that keeps this close.
11/4 NHL Best Bet
Pittsburgh -1.5 (-102) – DraftKings – This one does not need much explanation, the Sharks are addressed above. The Penguins have no excuse for not destroying than sans “variance”.
