NHL DFS Hot Shot for DraftKings and FanDuel (Feb. 14)

Valentine’s Day brings us a very nice nine game NHL slate. Get your lineups done early before your big date night! Let’s find the best NHL DFS plays for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!

Goalies

Jake Oettinger – Dallas Stars: The Stars host the Bruins tonight, and this is a great upside play. Boston is a good offensive team and should throw plenty of shots Otter’s way, so this looks like a nice play.

Frederik Andersen – Carolina Hurricanes: The Canes head to Washington tonight to take on the Capitals, and this is a solid matchup for Freddie. The Caps will be without Ovechkin tonight. Andersen’s numbers have been a little rough of late, but this is a good chance to bounce back. There is a good amount of risk in playing him tonight, but the upside is there.

Vitek Vanecek – New Jersey Devils: This is a slightly risky play, but is worth mentioning. Vanecek has been pretty solid all year, and gets a matchup tonight with the Blue Jackets. This is probably a play best reserved for cash.

High Risk Goalie Pick – Philipp Grubauer – Seattle Kraken: The Kraken take on the Jets tonight on the road, and Grubauer is an interesting play. The Jets have been struggling to score recently, and they should throw a good amount of shots his way.

Others to Consider: Jake Allen (MON), Andre Vasilevskiy (TBL), Ilya Sorokin (NYI)

Lines to Build Around

These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Evgeni Malkin/Jason Zucker/Bryan Rust: This line has arguably the best matchup tonight against the San Jose top line, and should see a ton of chances. They have been very good to us all year, and should have some slate-breaking potential tonight.

Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – Brayden Point/Brandon Hagel/Nikita Kucherov/Victor Hedman: This top line should see the depth lines for Colorado tonight, but mainly line 2, which sets them up for what could be a fantastic night. Colorado has been bleeding chances over their last five, and Tampa has been creating a lot as a team. This matchup should prove beneficial for this high octane top line.

High Risk Lines

These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).

Dallas Stars 1 – Roope Hintz/Jason Robertson/Joe Pavelski/Miro Heiskanen: The Stars’ top line has a nice top six matchup tonight against the Bruins. This line should see plenty of chances, but the goalie matchups makes them a little riskier. Ullmark has been a very solid goalie for the Bruins all year long and could limit the upside for this line. They are still worth a look tonight, though.

Florida Panthers 2 – Sam Bennett/Matthew Tkachuk/Carter Verhaeghe: The Panthers’ second line is in a great spot tonight against the depth of the Blues and Binnington, who has been playing very poorly of late. The risk here is that the Blues haven’t been terrible defensively, and the Panthers just played last night.

Seattle Kraken 3 – Yanni Gourde/Oliver Bjorkstrand/Eeli Tolvanen: This line has been a great value all year long, and they have a great chance tonight to keep that going. They should see the second line for the Jets all night long in a nice upside spot.

Montreal Canadiens 3 – Christian Dvorak/Joel Armia/Jonathan Drouin: This line is in an interesting spot tonight against the Blackhawks and should see some chances. They are a very risky GPP play, but do have a chance at some upside tonight.

St. Louis Blues 3 – Noel Acciari/Ivan Barbashev/Sammy Blais: This third line should see the likes of the Florida second line tonight, which is a plus matchup. They are hard to trust, but could provide some value tonight.
