Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Between the Benches. We have a massive 15-game slate tonight leading into a day off for everyone tomorrow thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday. We’ll have plenty of options tonight for offense.
Let’s dig in and see if we can make some money.
NHL DFS Goaltending
Antti Ranta ($8.6K DK/$6.7k FD) vs. Arizona Coyotes – If you’re playing on FD tonight, Ranta is just about a must-play in all formats at that price. The Hurricanes are massive favorites tonight vs. a Coyotes team that is really struggling to put the puck in the net. Over their last 5 games, the Coyotes have scored just 9 goals for an average of fewer than 2 goals per game.
Ranta has been a bit better than average this season with a 2.54 GAA and a .902 save percentage. I’m going to ignore his last 2 outings due to both being against the powerhouse offense of the Colorado Avalanche. With the Hurricanes being such heavy favorites tonight, Ranta makes for a nice play in cash games tonight. His price has me a bit off in GPP’s on DK.
Joonas Korpisalo ($7.9k DK/$6.6k FD) vs. Montreal Canadiens – More than likely, I’m going to lock in Korpisalo as my GPP goalie tonight. He’ll face a ton of shots tonight as the Blue Jackets have been giving up in excess of 41 per game over the past 2 weeks. He’s far from safe and that’s why he’s my GPP goalie tonight.
He’ll be facing a team in the Canadiens that just helped the Sabres break their losing streak last night. Outside of his last outing vs. Detroit, Korpisalo had been in double-digit DK points in every start this year, with a few being over 20. I like him to get back on track tonight vs. a tired Montreal team.
NHL DFS Stacks
Teams like Colorado and Boston are 100% in play tonight. My goal is to give you some different lines to differentiate your lineups from others.
Stl 1 (Thomas, Buchnevich, Kyrou) + Parayko vs. Buffalo
The Blues were a bit of a disappointment the other night when they only scored 3 goals vs. the Ducks. They get an equally juicy matchup tonight vs. Buffalo and I just don’t think the disappointment happens 2 games in a row. Although the Sabres finally won a game last night, it was against the Canadiens. They’re still struggling and giving up over 4.3 goals per game over the last couple of weeks.
I’m going to attack a tired team with the Blues’ top line. Buchnevich, Thomas, and Kyrou have all been putting up points. Combined, they have 23 points over their last 5 games. And to make it even sweeter, they are all extremely affordable tonight. The most expensive guy in this stack is Kyrou at $5.7k on DK. We will however need to keep an eye on Tarasenko tonight. If he plays, this line could get shuffled a bit. Make sure to hop in discord for all the latest updates.
Columbus 1 (Jenner, Gaudreau, Nyquist) + Bjork vs. Montreal
Montreal is coming off a good ole whooping last night at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres. They gave up 7 and wouldn’t be surprised to see them give up a bunch tonight as well. Over the last 2 weeks, the Canadiens are giving up 4.67 goals per game. As usual, they are a mess of a team and one that we should consider stacking against. I’m going to do it with the top line of the Blue Jackets.
The core of this stack is going to be Boone Jenner. Over his last 5 games, Jenner has 4 goals and 2 assists. Those numbers should be amplified in this matchup tonight. My lean right now is to pair him with Johnny Hockey. Gaudreau has been playing well of late, with 1 goal and 5 assists in his last 5 games. These 2 should have a solid night vs. a poor defensive Canadiens team.
Washington 1 (Ovechkin, Strome, Sheary) + Carlson vs. Philly
What we have here are 2 struggling teams. The once-hot Flyers are 0-5-1 over their last 6 while the Capitals are 1-4-1 over their last 6. Both teams are giving up goals in bunches while not scoring much on their own. That changes tonight. A complete game stack here isn’t out of the question, but I’m going to side at first with the Capitals. Carter Hart went from Vezina candidate to backup goalie candidate. He’s been giving up a healthy amount of goals over the last few weeks and we’ll want to target that.
I’m locking in Ovechkin here. He’s not hot by any means and could net us 0, but with Philly struggling, we could see a monster game out of him. He’s also still firing away with 4 shots on goal per game and an iCF of 41 over his last 5. I’ll pair him with Sheary tonight. Sheary is cheap and has some goal upside as he’s scored 3 over his last 5. This game could be a fantasy haven.
Other Stacks: Colorado 1 and 2, Boston 1, Buf 1, NJ 1, Pit 1 and 2, Car 1 and 2, Det 1, NSH 1, Phi 1, Dal 1, Veg 1 and 2, NYR 1
NHL DFS Top Value Defenseman
- Justin Schultz – $3.5k on DK
- Filip Hronek – $4.1k on Dk
- Luke Schenn – $3k on DK
- Adam Larsson – $3.7k on DK
