Welcome back everyone, hope you’ve had a lot of NHL success to start the season. We are back with our first Between the Benches article of the year! I’ll be writing weekly every Friday for WinDaily NHL. You can also catch more of my content in the MMA tab for every UFC card! Without further ado, for tonight’s 10/14 NHL slate, we have a small four-gamer, and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!
10/14 NHL Stack Report
1. Tampa Bay Lightning 1 (Stamkos-Point-Kucherov)
— W
— It should come as no surprise that we are leading off this four-gamer with one of the most dominant lines in the NHL over at least the past five seasons and to start the year Jon Cooper has paired them all together. This line has essentially dragged the rest of the team into the Stanley Cup Final for the last three seasons, winning the Cup twice. Tonight, the Bolts are coming up against a Blue Jackets side that did not make the playoffs and finished the season with a losing record. On top of that, the Jackets got picked apart in their season opener when they fell 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Lightning are also coming in as one of the biggest favourites on the slate at (-195) and have one of the best implied goal totals at 3.6. This line will also see the bulk of any power play time and will definitely see the most time on ice compared to any other line. This line has a high price tag but it is well worth it if you can fit some of this line into your builds.
Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Victor Hedman (Mikhail Sergachev works as a salary saver)
2. Detroit Red Wings 1 (Bertuzzi-Larkin-Raymond)
— Usually, it would be very hard for me to straight up recommend the Red Wings against most NHL teams but they have a clear advantage over the side they are up against tonight and they are a very affordable option which will help alleviate some of the salary pressure caused by the top line in today’s article. The Wings will be making both their home and season debut tonight and despite the fact that Montreal won their opener last Wednesday, we cannot discount the abysmal season that Montreal had last year where they finished last in the East 19 points behind the Red Wings. The Red Wings and Canadiens have faced off a lot together throughout history as both are part of the ‘Original Six’ NHL teams but more recently, the rivalry has been more tilted towards the Wings as they have won 5 of their last 7 games against Montreal after a long period of dominance from the Montreal Canadiens. Also of note is that Montreal has a lot of injuries which derailed their season last year and will continue to linger this season including their star goalie Carey Price, Paul Byron and Joel Armia. The Vegas odds are also heavily favouring the Wings with the Moneyline currently coming in at -190 (has been getting more favorable for the Red Wings throughout the morning) and they also have the highest implied total of the slate at 3.9 goals. I would highly recommend fitting some Red Wings top liners in your Daily Fantasy builds tonight!

10/14 NHL Wild Card Targets
Martin Necas
– Martin Necas made quite a splash in his season debut last Wednesday putting up 3 points with nearly 18 minutes of ice time. Tonight, Necas and the Canes will be up against the San Jose Sharks who dropped their first two games of the season which took place in the Czech Republic against the Preds. Despite being on the second line, Necas sees plenty of minutes and plays alongside some of the Canes’ best players in Svechnikov and Kotkanemi. He also sees time on the Power Play with both of his linemates. At just 23 years old, the Czech native is entering in his fourth season with the Canes. In his past three seasons, he’s put up at least 14 goals and notched around 40 points in each. He is very well-positioned for a breakout season this year.
Honorable Mention(s): Cole Caufield, Brent Burns, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Cole Perfetti
Core Four: (ALWAYS BE STACKIN’)
Center – Braydon Point
Winger – Kyle Connor
Defenseman – Moritz Seider
