NHL DFS Between the Benches for DraftKings and FanDuel (Apr. 24)

We’re coming up to the final stretch of the season! There are only a few games to go and a few times are jostling for those last few spots. For tonight’s 4/24 NHL slate, we have a medium-sized seven-gamer and the slate begins at 7:00 pm ET. Don’t forget to lock your lines and check the discord for any updates! Let’s get right into it!

4/24 NHL Stack Report

1. Boston Bruins 1 (Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk)

— Let’s start off with the low-hanging fruit of the slate, the Boston Bruins. They’ve had quite an unremarkable offensive season by their standards, mostly due to an aging core and young pieces that just never seemed to develop properly. As such, they sit around the middle of the pack in the league’s scoring race. Fortunately for them, they are in an original six matchup against the fledgling Montreal Canadiens. Montreal played last night and coughed up six to the Ottawa Senators to make it 8 straight losses. More unfortunately for the Habs in this matchup is the fact that they’ll most likely be icing their backup goalie on tonight’s slate given that Price played a full 60 last night and just recently came back into action. Their backup Montembault has a record of 7-17-6, a GAA of 3.78 and a save percentage below .900. Despite the offensive struggles Boston is still in a playoff spot and Montreal very much is not (they only won 20 games this season of 80 games played). It should come as no surprise that Boston’s implied goal total is set at 3.9 and Montreal’s is set at 2.2. This one should not be competitive.

Ideal Defensive Partner(s): Charlie McAvoy

2. St. Louis Blues 1 (Buchnevich-Thomas-Tarasenko)

— After a STELLAR 8-goal performance the last time we had recommended them, we are going back to the well tonight on the Blues red hot first line, most of whom are still averaging multiple points per game as of late. The Blues have won 9 of their last 10 games with their only loss coming in OT against the Bruins we mentioned earlier, the Ducks, on the other hand, are 3-5-2 over their last 10 and are coming into this one having lost their last two games, both of which came at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings. Although John Gibson is a decent goalie, he’s been given zero defensive support and even less offensive support to cover the defensive lapses. The Ducks are near the worst in the league in most offensive and defensive stat categories including goals, where they sit 24th at 2.76 goals a game, shots on goal which is at 29.4, goals allowed where they are tied for 22nd in the league at 3.22 and shots on goal allowed which is a measly 27th in the league with 33.4 shots on goal allowed on average. Unfortunately for Gibson, that means he can have a save percentage above .900 but still have an abysmal 3.16 GAA. Accordingly, the Blues are coming into tonight’s slate with one of the highest implied totals of the slate at an even 4.0. Just like last week, I would highly prioritize the Blues on this slate.

4/24 NHL Wild Card Targets

Valeri Nichushkin
– The logic behind Nichushkin is very straightforward. As the Avalanche has picked up injuries with their top two wingers Rantanen and Landeskog, Nichushkin and Andre Burakovsky have benefitted by getting a bump up in the lines. Of the two, Nichushkin has been performing slightly better in his heightened role but both are excellent plays on tonight’s slate. Nichushkin is on a grind as of late, he is coming into tonight with a seven-game point streak which has included multiple two-goal performances. Even with the major injuries, the Aves are still at an even 4 implied goals on tonight’s slate and considering that Val notched two goals in the Aves’ last game in Edmonton, I would argue that he’s a lock to end up on the scoresheet tonight.

I would also recommend sprinkling some money on Nichushkin as an anytime-point scorer. (-200 on Bet365) The anytime-goal scorer at +230 is also in play if you feel up for it.

Honorable Mention(s): Matt Boldy, Gustav Forsling, Claude Giroux, Paul Stastny
