As we barrel towards the end of the regular season, we have been blessed with another weird schedule this year. Because of that, we have a four game slate tonight that starts at 8:30pm Eastern. These four games feature only TWO teams with an implied total under 3, so we can *checks goalie list* DEFINITELY expect some scoring on this slate. Let’s find the best NHL DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel. Good luck!
Goalies
Darcy Kuemper – Colorado Avalanche: The ‘easy’ pick on this rough looking goalie slate is Kuemper. The Avalanche head to Seattle tonight to take on the Kraken, and this should be a winnable game for them. Seattle has only been scoring 2.4 goals per game over their last five. Colorado has not been giving up a lot of goals recently, so this looks like a good spot for Darcy.
Mike Smith – Edmonton Oilers: This one is more about win equity than it is about trust/safety. The Oilers host the Stars tonight and should be able to win this game. However, Smith is hard to trust this season, so he carries a good bit of risk. The interesting part is that he isn’t the riskiest goalie on the slate, which tells you something about the four games we are up against.
High Risk Goalie Pick – Logan Thompson – Vegas Golden Knights: The high risk play of the night is Thompson from Vegas. He should be peppered with shots, and has some decent numbers of late. Washington has been scoring recently, which makes him high risk, but he could potentially pull a save bonus on DraftKings tonight.
Notes: People will flock to Lankinen tonight, and sure that play makes ‘sense’, but it is a very risky play. If he gives up 2 goals, the upside will be so limited that he won’t become optimal. Lank’s numbers are atrocious, and we just can’t trust it.
Lines to Build Around
These NHL DFS lines are considered top plays for the night and can be considered the focal point of your builds. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).
Edmonton Oilers Power Play – Connor McDavid/Leon Draisaitl/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins/Zach Hyman/Tyson Barrie: The top two lines for the Oilers should see equal time against the top Dallas line tonight. This matchup sets up nicely for both of those lines, so getting the power play here can get you exposure to both. Oettinger for Dallas has not looked too good recently, and the Oilers are a top play tonight.
Colorado Avalanche 2 – J.T. Compher (Nazem Kadri)/Artturi Lehkonen/Andre Burakovsky: The Kraken match the Gourde line to the top line, and Gourde’s line is actually decent at defense. The Kraken overall are not, so the top Colorado line is in play of course, but this one is more intriguing. The reason Kadri is listed there is that he may be back tonight. It is IMPERATIVE to keep up with news tonight, and if Kadri does in fact come back, this line becomes an even better play. Be sure to check into Discord today, where we will post any news and updates.
High Risk Lines
These are NHL DFS plays that carry significantly more risk, but could pay off at low ownership. They will be listed by position in the following order: Center/Winger/Winger/Correlating Defenseman (if applicable).
Chicago Blackhawks 1 – Dylan Strome/Patrick Kane/Alex Debrincat/Seth Jones: This game should be pretty high scoring, and the top line for Chicago is in a great spot. They have been a little unpredictable lately, which is where the risk comes in. However, this play makes a lot of sense and will likely be a strong play tonight.
Arizona Coyotes 1 – Barrett Hayton/Matias Maccelli/Nick Schmaltz/Shayne Gostisbehere: As mentioned above, this game should feature some scoring, and this top line should be in play tonight. A game stack is not out of the question on a four game slate, and this is the one you should target if you choose to go the game stack route.
Washington Capitals 3 – Lars Eller/Anthony Mantha/Tom Wilson: We have a good bit of value in this line tonight, as they should be facing the second line for the Knights tonight. The opportunity should be there, and the Caps have been getting some depth scoring recently, making this line even more intriguing.
