NFL Waiver Wire Week 11
Time continues to fly in the NFL season and we had an injury o a very big name this past week. Saints quarterback Drew Brees is likely done for at least 2-3 weeks, if no longer. Having multiple fractured ribs and a collapsed lung are not good mixes for football. This could really shift the Saints offense, but we’ll get to that and more in NFL Waiver Wire Week 11 to get ready for the playoff push!
*Note* The ownership referenced will be based on Yahoo and if this needs updated after Monday Night Football, it certainly will be before your waivers run.
Teams on a Bye – Bills, Giants, Bears, 49ers
Quarterback
Jameis Winston, Saints – 2% rostered
With Brees down with injury, the Saints turned to Winston in the second half of Sunday’s game. Color me shocked that Taysom Hill isn’t actually a quarterback. Getting paid the money he is to be a gadget player is good work where you can get it but I digress. New Orleans only asked Winston to grow 10 times and he didn’t do much. Perhaps that’s what they will transfer to this week’s game plan but I doubt it. New Orleans will need to put up more points against the Falcons offense coming out of a bye week and we know the ceiling for Winston.
I know he’s the butt of jokes and memes, some of which are richly deserved. He’s a turnover machine but he also displayed massive ceiling in Tampa. This isn’t an apples to apples comparison, but the Saints offense is still quite dangerous. With a full week of prep and a matchup with the 27th ranked defense against the pass, Jameis is a great fill in for Josh Allen this week.
Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins – 45% rostered
Tua has been a mainstay for nearly a month now but if you turn back the clock to when he was named the starter, we talked about the late-season schedule. Well, it’s now late season. The next three weeks feature games against defenses no higher than 14th in passing yards allowed. The fourth week is against the Chiefs, where Tua should have to sling the ball a whole lot. While he hasn’t lit the world on fire yet, he does have a 5:0 TD:INT ratio. Some of that has been luck because he should have a couple INT’s to the resume, but he’s shown enough flashes to be rostered against some bottom-dwelling defenses coming up.
Honorable Mention
Alex Smith, Washington – In limited game action two weeks ago and this past week, Smith has thrown for 715 yards. The touchdowns haven’t been there yet with just one but but if they start happening…these would be massive numbers. The next two weeks are the time to play him against the Bengals and then Dallas.
Running Back
Nyheim Hines, Colts – 40% rostered
The Colts backfield has been a total pain but Hines may have really staked his claim to it this past week. He rolled up over 110 scrimmage yards and scored twice and was easily the best back on the field Thursday. The fear is Jordan Wilkins and/or Jonathan Taylor are lurking. If Hines starts off poorly one game, one of those two can take over touches. Clearly, Coach Frank Reich has no qualms about rotating backs. At the same time, Indy is leading the division and they need to figure things out. At worst, Hines is the back to catch passes and with Philip Rivers at quarterback, that’s valuable in and of itself.
Salvon Ahmed, Dolphins – 6% rostered
We’re back in Miami and Ahmed made a big impression this past week. He had 21 rush attempts and ran 15 routes, the only Dolphin back to run a route. Ahmed scored and the Dolphins released Jordan Howard on Monday. That means they are down to Ahmed, Matt Breida and Myles Gaskin. Ahmed had a little bit of dynasty buzz in the offseason with the 49ers and he looked the part in his first significant game action. Gaskin and Breida are injured without an exact timeline to come back and Ahmed could plug the gap for another week or two.
Honorable Mention
Kalen Ballage, Chargers – Both Justin Jackson and Austin Ekeler are both on the comeback trail but Ballage is getting fed in the meantime. He’s totaled 40 touches in just two games and is getting red zone work on top of it. Any back getting this amount of touches in a good offense is worth chasing, no matter how long he’s viable.
Wide Receiver
Michael Pittman, Colts – 10% rostered
Don’t forget about Pittman even though he played on Thursday. The rookie has fought injury this year but had a breakthrough game. Over the past two weeks, he’s played at least 67% of the snaps. He’s also accounted for 15 targets and that’s equated to 19.7% of the targets to lead the team. The aDOT of 10.8 should work out nicely with the skill set for Rivers at this point. With 77 yards after the catch, he’s shown big play ability with the ball in his hand as well and should be rostered pretty heavily.
Jalen Reagor, Eagles – 26% rostered
The stats won’t pop yet for Reagor but over the past two games, he’s had 13 total targets. He owns the air yards lead at 27.8% and has two end zone targets with a score. Reagor is imply too involved in this offense to look past. The next three matchups are Cleveland, Seattle and Green Bay. The time to get him on your roster is right now.
Sammy Watkins, Chiefs – 38% rostered
Watkins hasn’t been active since Week 5 but it would be a great time to pick him up. He should be ready to roll coming out of the bye and ready to resume being the WR2 in the Chiefs offense. His target share is over 15% and he’s still tied for fifth in receptions despite so much time missed. Watkins is always a bit of a question mark as far as health but you can now pick him up for free in a top five offense in football.
Honorable Mention
Jakeem Grant, Dolphins – He’s only seen five targets in each of the past two games but with Preston Williams out, the workload is secure. Additionally, the trade of Isaiah Ford to New England has freed up snaps and targets as well. The matchups for Tua transfer to Grant as well.
Tim Patrick, Broncos – The fact Drew Lock could miss time doesn’t exactly help, but Patrick has been consistent since Courtland Sutton has been hurt. He’s been over 43 yards or scored in every healthy game since then, totaling double-digit PPR points in all games.
Cole Beasley, Bills – Keep an eye on this pick but with John Brown having an ankle issue, Beasley could really be a great pickup. He’s already approaching 650 receiving yards as is and if Brown is out, being the number two in the Bills offense is quite the gig.
Tight End
Logan Thomas, Washington – 35% rostered
There’s not much to pick from as usual with this position. Only three tight ends have over 100 PPR points on the season and Thomas at least gets targeted. He has a 16% target share and is tied for the team lead in red zone targets with eight. In fact, that number is tied for sixth among tight ends in the league. Alex Smith has been throwing for a ton of yards and Thomas always has a chance to find pay dirt. Facing the Bengals and Cowboys the next two weeks helps the streaming appeal for him as well.
Honorable Mention
Dalton Schultz, Cowboys – Even with quarterback issues galore, Schultz has 15 targets over the past two games. He’s likely to be a safety blanket no matter who is taking snaps and should continue to see enough looks to make some type of impact. At tight end, that’s enough.
D/ST
Atlanta Falcons, 2% rostered
hey will likely give up some points but we all know that Jameis Winston turns the ball over like few other players in football. The Falcons are 3-1 in heir last four games and have racked up seven sacks and five turnovers. They also haven’t given up more than 27 points and have been under 24 three times.
Los Angeles Chargers, 42% rostered
The Jets will once again start Joe Flacco at quarterback. Even though the Chargers have been sub-par to say the least, the Jets are worse and there’s not a ton of options to stream as it stands. NFL Waiver Wire Week 11 is not the week to need a defense to stream.
