NFL Season Long: The Wire Report – Week 6 – Win Daily Sports

Welcome to the Week 6 edition of The Wire Report for the 2021 NFL season.  In this article I’ll be highlighting some of the top players that should still be available in your season long leagues.

We now have 5 weeks of games in the books.  With injuries starting to mount we’re getting some extremely low owned players thrust into the limelight.

Below are my top waiver wire targets:

Kadarius Toney – Wide Receiver – New York Giants (19% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)

With Darius Slay and Sterling Shepard sidelined with injuries it was Kadarius Toney that picked up the productivity.  The Giants #1 pick had his best week of his career with 10 receptions and 189 yards.  Even when Slay and Shepard comes back, if Jones and Toney become comfortable with one another you have to think that his tandem will be fun to watch, not just this year but for years to come.  He’s going to be popular on the waiver wire this week so if you can grab him, do it.

Geno Smith – Quarterback – Seattle Seahawks (.2% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)

At this point in his career Smith is nothing more than a fill in. That said, he’s in a big spot to fill right now with Russell Wilson expected to miss at least a month.  Any other team we probably don’t look to Smith.  But on this team he has 2 stand out receivers in Metcalf and Lockett and any quarterback that gets to throw to those 2 should be in play.  Smith played admirably in the second half, throwing for 131 yards and 1 TD.

Devontae Booker – Running Back – New York Giants (6% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)

Saquon Barkley is expected to miss some time with his ankle injury.  After going down early in the game on Sunday it was Booker that saw the most looks as he had 16 rushing attempts and was targeted 4 times.  All in he ended the game with 58 all purpose yards and a TD.  Depending on how much time Barkley misses, Booker may be come a more important part to this offense.

Darrel Williams – Running Back – Kansas City Chiefs (12.1% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)

Darrel Williams is expected to be the lead back this weekend with the injury to CEH.  Anytime you can get a piece of an important piece in this offense you should jump at the chance.  As a non lead back Williams has seen multiple targets each of the last 3 weeks.  With him now slated to be the lead guy you should expect him to be a double threat.  Grab him if you can.

Taylor Heinicke – Quarterback – Washington Football Team (18.3% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)

This was the first week that Heinicke failed to throw a TD pass.  Prior to that he had 3 straight weeks of multiple touch down passes.  Depending on your league he still managed to have a respectable game as he threw for 248 yards and ran for another 40.  This week he gets to take on a Chiefs team that is struggling and we very well could see a shootout.  If your QB is on a bye this week you’re going to wan to pick up a guy like Heinicke.

David Njoku – Tight End – Cleveland Browns (2.2% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)

Was this week that Njoku broke out?  Or was it just a one time thing?  Personally, I think it’s a sign of things to come and he’s available in 97.8% of ESPN leagues.  With bye weeks starting this week you’re going to need a back up tight end soon and Njoku is the guy you need.  For the first time in his career Njoku broke the century mark as he had 149 yards receiving and 1 TD on 7 catches.  Njoku has had a couple of down years and already has more yards receiving than 2019 and 202 combined.  Go get him while you can.
