Welcome to the Week 7 edition of The Wire Report for the 2021 NFL season. In this article I’ll be highlighting some of the top players that should still be available in your season long leagues.
We now have 6 weeks of games in the books. With injuries starting to mount we’re getting some extremely low owned players thrust into the limelight.
Below are my top waiver wire targets:
D’Ernest Johnson – Running Back – Cleveland Browns (1.4% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
This waiver wire target is extremely dependent on the health of both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Both of Cleveland’s star running backs are now hobbled by calf injuries. If both were to miss the upcoming game against Denver, Johnson would be next in line to carry the load for the Cleveland. If either of them plays on Sunday, Johnson would not be of much value
Rhamondre Stevenson – Running Back – New England Patriots (11.5% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
Stevenson had his “breakout” game this weekend. He scored his first rushing touchdown of the year after having 5 carries for 23 yards. Stevenson also become a little bit more of a dual threat this weekend as he was targeted 3 times. He caught all 3 passes and ended up with 39 yards. He is still a secondary option behind Damien Harris but with a match up against the Jets this weekend there’s a chance for more carries.
T.Y.Hilton – Wide Receiver – Indianapolis Colts (23.8% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
He’s back! Kind of. After missing the first 5 weeks of the season due to neck surgery, Hilton made his season debut and was productive. He caught all 4 targets and finished the game with 80 yards receiving. He did leave in the second half with a quad injury so it’s something we’ll need to monitor. That said, even if he misses this week he’s someone that we’ll want on our squad long term.
Ricky Seals-Jones – Tight End – Washington (20% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
With Logan Thomas injured Ricky Seals-Jones has filled in admirably. Over the last 2 weeks he has 9 and 6 targets. He’s been able to convert 9 of them into catches for 99 yards and 1 TD. He’s become an important part of this offense and as long as Thomas is injured he’s a solid pick in your Tight End spot.
Rashod Bateman – Wide Receiver – Baltimore Ravens (14.6% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
After missing the first 5 weeks of the season with a groin injury, Ravens first round pick Rashod Bateman made his much anticipated debut. He looked sharp, catching 4 of his 6 targets for 29 yards. While he is not a main option for Jackson just yet, we have to remember that Hollywood Brown struggles catching the ball at times. If that trend continues and Bateman continues to haul in his targets we’ll start to see a trend of more targets for him and less for Brown.
Tua Tagovailoa – Quarterback – Miami Dolphins (25.3% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
Tua came back with a vengeance after missing the previous 3 weeks with an injury. He tore up the Jaguars secondary for 329 passing yards and 2 TD’s. With us being the middle of our bye weeks, if you’re in need of a QB Tua is as solid of an option as there is. Look for him to have another solid week in Week 7 vs. a Falcons D that is giving up 260 yards passing on average each week.
