Welcome to the Week 3 edition of The Wire Report for the 2021 NFL season. In this article I’ll be highlighting some of the top players that should still be available in your season long leagues.
We now have 2 weeks of games in the books. Some roles are becoming clearer than others. We also have some players starting to shine in spots where they are covering for injured players.
Below are my top waiver wire targets:
Cordarrelle Patterson – Running Back – Atlanta Falcons (14.7% rostered in ESPN Leagues)
If Patterson is still available in your league, and good chance he is, you should grab him. Through two weeks he’s shown the ability be a threat in both the running game and passing game. Patterson has averaged 7 carries a game and 4 targets through 2 weeks now.
This past week he had a breakout performance with both a rushing TD and caught a TD pass as well. He’s becoming more involved in the offense and although it’s not a good offense, he’s still heavily involved.
Tim Patrick – Wide Receiver – Denver Broncos (18.8% rostered in ESPN Leagues)
I wrote him up last week and I’m writing him again. With Jeudy on the injured reserve Patrick is going to see more time on the field. He was on the field this past week for nearly 75% of the snaps.
He was targeted 4 times again and caught 3 of the passes, with one ending in a TD. In a small sample size he’s now been targeted 8 times, resulting in 76 yards and 2 TD’s. Grab him, you’ll be happy that you did.
Rondale Moore – Wide Receiver – Arizona Cardinals (24.9% rostered in ESPN Leagues)
Through 2 weeks Moore has now been targeted 13 times. He’s caught 11 of the passes for 182 yards and caught his first career TD this past weekend. Moore has become heavily involved in the offense and as the season moves along, it shouldn’t change.
This week the Cardinals take on the Jaguars and there will be tons of passes to go around. Through 2 weeks only 6 teams have given up more passing yards. With Murray continuing to sling the ball, look for Moore to continue his hot start to his career.
Jack Doyle – Tight End – Indianapolis Colts(.9% rostered in ESPN Leagues)
I wouldn’t put Doyle in the same category as guys like Kittle, Kelce, or Waller. Ever. But if you need a Tight End at this point of the year you could do a whole lot worse than Doyle. This past week he saw 8 targets and caught 5 of them for 64 yards. Part of his increase in targets was due to Parris Campbell being out. If Campbell misses time again this week I’ll have a lot more confidence in this pick up.
Derek Carr – Quarterback – Las Vegas Raiders (22.1% Rostered in ESPN Leagues)
We now have a 2 game sample on Carr for the 2021 season. He’s put up 435 yards and 382 yard. In those 2 games he’s also thrown for 2 TD’s each week. No QB has more passing yards than Carr. As we speak he’s available in 78% of ESPN leagues.
I can see Carr being the most picked up player this week in leagues. While there’s a chance he misses this upcoming week, Gruden did say he expects Carr to play. Pick him up while you can. Especially if you drafted a young QB who is struggling to start the year.
