NBA DFS Picks and Pivots: Slate Breakdown
Looking at this 10 game NBA DFS slate on Friday, it takes me right back to Wednesday’s slate with a similar sized player pool, the high-end star power and seemingly endless value that made Stars and Scrubs work so well.
Tonight we have a plethora of injury news as per usual – and with the injury news some massive value. We say it all the time in Picks and Pivots but VALUE DICTATES SLATES – and tonight, that means using that value to get multiple high ceiling stars in our builds.
Now DraftKings usually allows us a significant amount of flexibility in our builds but what I find interesting about tonight is that the star power is heavily concentrated to two spots – point guard and center – which means we have to be very strategic in how we build.
The high-end point guard pool is loaded with James Harden, Damian Lillard, and Luka Doncic while the center is a two-man dual between Nikola Jokic and Nikola Vucevic. Deciding on your stars is tough enough but you are going to need to think through which positions you fill here since the value is also very guard heavy!
So let’s dive into that value – and more specifically – the Golden State Warriors. With both Steph Curry and Kelly Oubre doubtful to play tonight for the Warriors, we are going to get some serious value from Golden State and I think this is going to read much like Houston has in recent weeks where we take multiple punt pieces.
If you dig into the Warriors rotations last game via Popcorn Machine, you can get an idea of what this lineup will look like without Curry and Oubre on the floor.
Against the Suns back on March 4th, we had a similar game for Golden State where Curry and Oubre were out as was Draymond Green. It is not a perfect apples to apples since Draymond is expected to play tonight and James Wiseman saw heavy run that night, while he is out for tonight’s game.
What you did see in that game however was how multiple value pieces could hit for immense value as we saw Jordan Poole ($4.5K) drop 38 DK points as the lead scoring option for the Warriors while fringe plays like Nico Mannion ($3.2K) played 31 minutes and nabbed 24 DK points in the starting unit alongside Poole. The game prior to that, where just Oubre missed, Kent Bazemore ($3.4K) and played 31 minutes and dropped 36 DK points of his own.
The point here is simple – multiple value plays from the Warriors are going for massive PP/$ value games tonight and I think EVERY lineup you build should have 2+ Golden State values in it tonight. Once we see what the mode likes – I think we can make the decisions on which spots to move to.
Now what does that value all mean?
It means for every 2-3 Warriors punts you use, you have a path to 2-3 high-end stars to build your lineups around tonight.
I think the path tonight is you start with one high PG from the trio of Harden, Luka or Dame and pair them with a stud Center – either Jokic or Vucevic.
James Harden ($11K) and Nikola Vucevic ($9.9K)have already shown they can correlate for ceiling games this season – back on January 16th when Vuc dropped 70 DK points on the Nets while Harden rank it back for nearly 80 DK points.
Nikola Jokic ($10.6K) meanwhile faces the same Bulls team he dominated back on March 1st to the tune of 39 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists, and 77 DraftKings points.
Luka Doncic ($10.7K) faces the league’s worst defense in the last 15 games in Portland who he lit up for 66 DK points back on Valentine’s Day. Damian Lilard ($10.9K) meanwhile ran that game back with 57.8 DK points.
With Dame being the lone player here on a B2B, I have to say – he falls into 5th in the pecking order for me. All the others in these same match-ups have given us the kind of 60-70 DK point games that set the cash line.
Tonight, much like we did on Wednesday – my goal is to jam in three of hese studs in my DraftKings NBA DFS builds.
NBA DFS Picks and Pivots – The Wrap Up
Value dictates slates. Star power that is opened up by that value is what sets cash lines.
Rinse and repeat.
Tonight, with the Warriors decimated by injuries, we need to use multiple punt Golden State value in our builds and we do so that we can fit not 1, not 2 but 3 stars from the core of Harden, Luka, Joker and Vuc. That Stars and Scrubs build was a consistent cash line producer on a similar slate on Wednesday and tonight, I think we follow the same blueprint.
