Everyone gets a well-deserved week off of NBA DFS so I figured I would take a look at the All-Star game props to provide us with some much-needed action on Sunday. Make sure you check out our NBA All-Star Game giveaway contest on Twitter and follow the rules to submit your chance to win an NBA jersey of your choice. All you have to do is follow us on Twitter, like the post and retweet it to enter the contest!
This year is unlike any other where all the festivities and the actual all-star game all take place on one day. We have an NBA Rising Stars game, a skills competition, the 3 point contest, slam dunk competition, and the grand finale on Sunday night which will be the actual NBA All-Star Game.
Not all the betting lines are out yet, but let’s start with the skills competition and my initial thoughts here are that Chris Paul is my favorite to win the competition even though he will have to beat Luka Doncic as he is the only other guard battling him. I believe Paul will take this personally and will put some extra effort into this one to make sure he at least defeats Luka. As far as a longshot goes I’m seeing +500 to +600 being floated around the internet on Julius Randle to take it down and with this being his first appearance I like these odds. He can bang threes with the best of the big men and he has the handles and speed to get up and down the court. As Mike North would say sprinkle some couch change on Randle if you see the odds anywhere over +500.
We have a 3 man race to take down the 3 point competition. With only 6 players in the competition and only 2 past champions, the favorites are Steph Curry and Devin Booker which are both currently sitting at +200 to win. The NBA has changed the game this year and added an additional all-money ball rack and two Mountain Dew zones which will sit 6 feet behind the 3-point line. This may give Curry the perceived advantage but I think all of the shooters these days can shoot from deeper than the normal 3 point line. Curry and Booker are both great plays but my gut is saying Booker is the play in this one. He still has a chip on his shoulder for not getting selected onto the all-star roster initially and I think he puts on a show here. If there was a longshot to go with Donovan Mitchell has the clutch gene and at +500 I will sprinkle a couple of dollars on him as well.
UPDATE: With Devin Booker pulling out of the 3 Point contest its a 2 horse race on Curry vs Mitchell. Feel free to throw some entertainment only dollars on each.
Due to the fact that the Dunk Contest has only 3 contestants and the average fan has never heard of all 3 of these guys I will be boycotted a write-up on it and not taking any action. My favorite part of the weekend has been erased because nobody wants to compete? Nobody wants to jump over cars these days? What is the deal here? I consider myself a good motivator and if you gave me a room of highly skilled, competitive, and highly motivated NBA players I think I can figure out a way to get more than 3 people to compete and you best believe I will figure out a way to get some headliners involved!
Now let’s get to the actual All-Star game in which the two captains hand-selected their rosters from the entire pool earlier this week. From a scoring standpoint, I believe the edge is on the underdog here with team Durant at +3.5. Durant will sit this one out but did a great job selected a team full of lethal scorers while Lebron went slightly more defensive-minded. Defense may win championships but scoring wins NBA All-star games. I will be taking the points here but I got team Durant pulling the upset in this one as an outright play.
