NASCAR DFS Pit Stop: Cup Series from Talladega 10/4/20

Welcome to the NASCAR DFS Pit Stop for Sunday afternoons Cup Series race from Talladega Super Speedway! This isn’t a typical race where past history on the track means that much and where you can predict what will happen. Like with all Super Speedways it is all about place differential and leaving salary on the table. I would recommend no more than 2 drivers starting inside the top 10, but on average I will have no more than 1 in my lineups. I tend to build my lineups with 1 driver starting inside the top 10 and 1 starting from 11-20th. I will then fill in the rest of my lineup with drivers 21st and back.

I am going to do something a little different this week, instead of breaking down drivers by price I will give you my favorite plays from each qualifying range because pricing isn’t important this week like it is in other weeks because you SHOULD be leaving salary on the table.

NASCAR DFS: Qualifying Pos 1-10

Denny Hamlin ($9,700)

Starting Position: 1st

Denny Hamlin may be starting on the pole so his upside is limited in this race, but he has been very consistent at Super Speedways recently. Hamlin is the Vegas favorite to win this race and could lead a bunch laps early since he will have teammate Martin Truex ($9,300) starting right behind him. Hamlin has made the optimal lineup at 4 of the last 10 Super Speedway races, which is tied for the most in that span. If you are playing Hamlin he should be the ONLY driver you use starting inside the top 10.

Other Options: Joey Logano ($10,300 – P8), Chase Elliott ($10,500 – P10)

NASCAR DFS: Starting Pos 11-20

Ryan Blaney ($9,100)

Starting Position: 14th

Blaney is priced up a little, but he offers enough upside to make value at his salary. Like with Hamlin, Blaney has been pretty solid at SS track over the past few seasons, including his win earlier this season here at Talladega. Blaney has also been in 4 of the last 10 optimal lineups for SS tracks and the 14th starting position has averaged nearly 31 DKFP over the last 6 Super Speedways.

Aric Almirola ($8,500 )

Starting Position: 11th

Almirola has only 2 wins in his Cup series career, both coming at Super Speedways. I know I said you can’t really count on past history at these tracks but there is always an exception, and when you are as good at these tracks as Almirola is, you can use that info. Almirola comes in with eight straight top 10 finishes at Talladega.

Other Options: Jimmie Johnson ($8,600 – P17), Ryan Newman ($6,800 – P19), Chris Buescher – ($6,000 – P15), Matt Kenseth ($5,900 – P20)

NASCAR DFS: Starting Pos 21-39

There are two drivers in this range that are cash game locks and will be in the vast majority of my lineups on Sunday. Both Brendan Gaughan ($9,500) starting from last place, P39, and Ricky Stenhouse ($8,800) and he will start from P26. Stenhouse and Gaughan will probably garner some pretty high ownership %’s but they are going to be the kind of chalk you want to eat. For those worried about Stenhouse, don’t! Stenhouse has finished 23rd or better in 6 of his last 10 races overall and has five top 5 finishes in the last nine races at Talladega.

8. Michael McDowell – $5,700 – P24
9. Justin Haley – $5,400 – P35
10. William Byron – $8,900 – P21
11. John Hunter Nemechek – $5,600 – P23
