Sadly we just got the news that MLB is going to be delayed for two weeks, but that only means we’ll have a little more time prepping our strategy for MLB DFS.
Breakdown
Every day I will be providing a rundown for the days’ MLB slate. Most days it will revolve around the “Main slates” and full disclosure I mostly play FanDuel. However, this year, I’m going to jump back in on the DraftKings bandwagon and provide info in my articles to help narrow down how I feel you should build your lineups on a daily basis. My articles will not be built for those who do MME and more for the player that likes to play 1 to 5 lineups a night.
Last year was my first full season playing MLB DFS and I had never tried to win a Live Final Ticket, and with some effort and maybe a little bit of luck I was able to punch my ticket to my first Live Final last year.
Let’s jump into some of my MLB building rules…
General Building rules
On FD try to stack 4, and on DK try and stack 5. This means 4 players from the same team, and 5 players from the same team. Sometimes it’s best to build 3-man stacks but always 3-5 on both sites. I wouldn’t just build an MLB lineup of “One-Offs”.
There will always be good value on every MLB slate. This is hugely important because I have found most every day those “Value” bats end up doing well. These are typically guys in the middle of that favorite stack you end up building. You won’t always be able to build a 1,2,3,4 stack, and that might look the most appealing, but a lot of times it works out to be the 2-3-4-5 or the 3-4-5-7, etc. I even like the wrap-around stack, because it’s the least desired. Example – 8-9-1-3 etc.
Cash Games
I’m more of a boom or bust player, but this year, I might play more MLB cash games, just to help build the bank roll-up. Stacking in cash is totally fine, but the more important part of cash games is to build around those Value bats that pop up in our models every day. During my run down, I’ll be listing as many value bats as I can for both FD and DK.
Pitching
This is the hardest part sometimes. Choosing that one MLB pitcher on FD and 2 on DK. You have to get this correct. Or else it’s over, and you probably won’t cash. Last year, for example, my favorite pitcher to target was Justin Verlander. With his high strikeout upside, and going deep into games, this almost guaranteed that you’d get 50 + FD points from your pitcher, which is exactly what you want. In most cases, I’ll list at most 5 pitchers, top 3 and 2 lower value cash options for DK.
Bats
Every day you can expect a Catcher – Outfield break down of guys I like most at each MLB position, and a rundown on teams and their run totals, which will help you narrow down, which games are likely to have the most runs.
If I’m feeling frisky, I’ll even do a few HR Calls that should help with cashing and choosing the correct stacks.
