All 30 teams were in action on Friday June 7. We will highlight a few players that outperformed their values and others that did not live up to it. All prices and points are based off of DraftKings.
Winners
Yonny Chirinos ($8,100)
Chirinos looked great in Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox yesterday, going eight strong innings and only giving up two hits and two walks. He also finished with six strikeouts. Chirinos was locked in from the jump, getting the first 16 Red Sox hitters back to the dugout before allowing a walk to Brock Holt in the bottom of the sixth. Chirinos should be a viable option in his next start.
Chirinos’ Outlook
Chirinos has been filthy this entire season and people have overlooked him. His 0.90 WHIP ranks fourth in baseball and second in the American League behind Justin Verlander. He also has a sub-.200 batting average against. His next scheduled outing is Tuesday night against Oakland at the Trop. Oakland ranks 15th in OPS, so do not expect the A’s to put up a crooked number against Chirinos in his next outing.
Danny Peralta ($4,200)
Perelta looked good north of the border in Toronto against Marcus Stroman and the Blue Jays. He finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Peralta upped his average to .309 with eight homers and 34 RBI. Look to use Peralta if his price tag is around $4,200 again.
Peralta’s Outlook
Peralta had six total bases in yesterday’s game, which is a new season-high for him. In his past 15 games, Peralta is 17-for-57 (.298 average) so being above .300 isn’t too big of a shocker. The interleague matchup between the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays should be good for Peralta. Toronto’s pitching staff has the second-most free passes in baseball and is middle-of-the-road in batting average against. If he continues to have a value around $4,200, look for Peralta to continue providing value.
Tom Murphy ($3,300)
If you love finding a diamond in the rough, Murphy was your guy as he went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run. He doesn’t need to post crazy numbers to provide value with such a smaller price tag than other catchers. Murphy is basically playing every other day so getting consistent at-bats seems to be the key for him. Expect him to continue to provide value if in the lineup today.
Murphy’s Outlook
Murphy has been a surprise at the dish this season and continues to make solid contact. The only issue is his ability to draw walks, as he only has three in his past 30 games. However, his .333 average in the past seven games has been providing value for DFS players. Murphy and the Mariners continue their series in Anaheim today and the Angels have a .770 OPS against their pitchers. If Murphy is inserted back in the lineup and you need a player with a small price tag, use Murphy to get a few hits.
Losers
Luke Voit ($5,300)
Voit did not have a good day for the New York Yankees, getting the golden sombrero in his four at-bats against the Cleveland Indians. He looked lost at the plate and did not take many good swings throughout the course of the game. Fade him today, but it is highly unlikely he will not do better than he did in the opener against the Indians.
Voit’s Outlook
Luke Voit is now hitless in his last three games, going 0-for-11 with three walks and five strikeouts. The Yankees continue their three-game set in Cleveland today. The Indians trot out Adam Plutko and he is not known for his strikeout ability. Look for Luke Voit to end his hitless streak, but fade him in today’s slate and look for a better first baseman.
Marcus Stroman ($8,200)
Stroman did not have a good game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. His final line was 5.2 innings with six runs on seven hits, plus four strikeouts with two walks. He also gave up a pair of home runs in the outing before picking up his eighth loss on the season. Stroman didn’t have the control he usually does.
Stroman’s Outlook
Marcus Stroman has the 25th highest WHIP in the Majors with 1.32 and is tied for the lead with eight losses. Stroman seems to be a prime candidate to be moved at the trade deadline. His next start is slated for Thursday in Baltimore against the Orioles. Look for the ‘Stro Show to return to better form against a weak opposing lineup.
