MLB DFS Stack City (Apr. 17)

Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS Stacks on DraftKings and Fanduel.

There’s one big main slate today on DraftKings and FanDuel, and it starts at 1:05 p.m. EST. For some reason, DK has left off the 2:35 p.m. EST game between the Angels and Rangers that closes out the 11 game slate on FD.

We’ve talked about starting off your research by ingesting Adam’s Starting Rotation, which is a complete and nutritious breakfast of info that includes all the major food groups of a healthy MLB DFS diet. Grab a cup of coffee and read it before you get cracking on the rest of our offerings.

Let’s get to the Easter Sunday games and see what we can do to build that bankroll!!

MLB DFS Stacks – Main Slate

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Adam Oller

We don’t have a massive amount of data from Adam Oller to go from, since he’s only made one big-league start — a 1.1 IP disaster against these very same Blue Jays five days ago (5 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 2 HR, 3 K). The good news for Oller is that his 100% HR/FB rate is bound to come down today, even if the Jays tee off again on this young pup.

During Tuesday’s debacle, Oller’s offerings were an equal smattering of fastball/slider/change, and the Jays handle all these pitches well. There’s simply no reason to believe that Oller will find some type of magical mystery oil today that prevents Toronto from getting good pitches to hit. Getting exposure to the top bats of Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., George Springer and Bo Bichette will be imperative, and we can round out our stacks with shares of Lourdes Gurriel and Matt Chapman, who went deep for the second time this season in yesterday’s game.

The Jays bats will be popular, but they have the highest individual projected team total outside of Coors Field today (the Cubs-Rockies is a 3:10 p.m. EST game that’s not included in the main slate) and they are in a great spot for 5+ runs.

New York Mets vs. Humberto Castellanos

My interest in this game begins with the matchup against Castellanos, and Adam has already pointed out for us that in 59.1 career IP, the 24-year-old right-hander has had a difficult time missing bats and preventing hard contact (5.12 xFIP 16.5% K rate and 7.7% swinging-strike rate). The season-long projections don’t see Castellanos holding down a starting job and landing somewhere just under 5 for his FIP/ERA combo.

While the Mets are an inconsistent bunch, they are firmly in play for GPPS today with winds blowing out to left field at nearly 20 MPH. It’s not necessarily warm in Queens just yet, but there’s definitely leverage to be gained by rostering a stack gleaned from the top six batters in the lineup — projected to be Jeff McNeil, Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Eduardo Escobar and Robinson Cano. Both lefties and righties beat up on poor Humberto (.361/.356 career L/R wOBA) and if you desperately need a value play, even the dirt-cheap Travis Jankowski is in play, as he’s much better vs. RHP. J.D. Davis could also get a start, and while he’s off to a slow start, he’s inexpensive on both sites and has plenty of HR potential.

New York Yankees vs. Bruce Zimmermann

It makes perfect sense to go right back to the Yankees today against a pitcher who doesn’t possess the kind of metrics that could ever scare us off, and a guy they have absolutely destroyed in a small sample thus far. While it would have been nice if more of the Bombers’ bats showed up yesterday in Baltimore, we can blame the dreary weather and a couple of delays in throwing off their mojo. They did, after all, end up accumulating 5 runs.

The wind appears to be blowing in a little from left field across Camden Yards today, but that may not help Zimmermann stifle the right-hand bats of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, two guys who traditionally feast off weak lefty hurlers. Judge, in particular, has two homers and three hits and a walk off Zimmy in four ABs. It’s not an indicator that’s what he’ll do today, but he certainly won’t be uncomfortable.

After Judge and Stanton, I’m prioritizing the still inexpensive Kyle Higashioka after his well-deserved day off, as well as Aaron Hicks, Josh Donaldson and Anthony Rizzo. There’s really not a Yankee who’s not in play if Aaron Boone has them penciled in lineup this afternoon, but I’ll have the most shares of the aforementioned players.

MLB DFS Main Slate Summary

Additional stacking options include the Phillies‘ 1-5 hitters against Elieser Hernandez and the Marlins, the Brewers facing Dakota Hudson, and the FD-eligible Angels vs. Martin Perez. There’s never any reason to shy away from a one-off Mike Trout in any format if you have the salary to get him in there.

Good luck on these exciting slates and show us your green screens in Discord!
