MLB DFS Hitter Stacks (Sept. 3)

Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Stack City, where I’ll be going through the top MLB DFS plays on DraftKings and Fanduel.

The featured (main) slate consists of nine games and starts at 7:05 PM EST, and the earlier contests we can mostly avoid since they’re just two-gamers.

Now it’s time to get to the stacks and build that bankroll!

MLB DFS Hitter Stacks – 7:05 PM (Main) Slate

Baltimore Orioles vs. Adam Oller

Last Saturday we profiled the Yankees against Oller, and I dare say I’d rather have the O’s offense right now than the Bronx Bombers — who are really struggling at the dish as a team. Baltimore’s lineup is stacked with young talent, and while there’s nobody we look to right away as the double-dong guy, we can string easily string together a group of 5-6 hitters as our upside-and-value-laden player pool and find a winning path in a GPP.

Adley Rutschman (146 RC+ and .372 wOBA vs. RHP), Cedric Mullins (131 wRC+& .350 wOBA), Gunnar Henderson, Anthony Santander and Ryan Mountcastle are my favorite MLB DFS plays among the Baltimore bats, and we can mix in shares of Ramon Urias and Jorge Mateo as well. It’s rare that these guys sport one of the highest projected team totals of the slate, but here we are: it’s September and the upstart O’s are trying to sneak into the postseason.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Sean Manaea

The Dodgers have dismantled Manaea (and just about every other southpaw in baseball over the past couple of seasons), carrying a 122 team wRC+ vs. LHP and a .343/.389/.676 slash line against the San Diego lefty over 105 team AB. The usual suspects are all in play, including Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Will Smith and both Trea Turner and Justin Turner.

This is also a great time to get some exposure to a relatively inexpensive guys like Chris Taylor, Miguel Vargas and Trayce Thompson, but if Cody Bellinger starts I’m really interested in him for GPPs. The former NL MVP has had Manaea’s number and his ownership will be negligible.

It’s not rocket science to recommend the Dodgers in MLB DFS GPPs, but some folks will be scared off by Manaea’s decent proflie (despite him getting knocked around in his last outing) and/or look to other stacks today, and I think there’s plenty of leverage banking on a big game from this bunch.

New York Mets vs. Patrick Corbin

Our reliable analysts at WinDaily are always looking to give Patrick Corbin a bit of the business, and they’ve also been known to get a little excited about Mets stacks. So today’s a great day to shoot over to plug in some Mets, head on over to Discord, and see a bunch of folks with similar lineups to reassure yourself that you’re on the right track in your builds.

On a personal level, it was nice to see the two SPs (a stud and a scrub) I plugged into my placeholder lineup at the top of SuperSub JIMMY’s first build. The Mets I like most tonight are Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, Darin Ruf, Mark Canha and Francisco Lindor, though I’ll definitely be getting exposure to a dirt-cheap James McCann at catcher. I’ve always had a good fell for when McCann is ready to break out at the plate and since he doubled in his last game, he’s my longshot HR call of the night.

Also consider:

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Drew Smyly – Fun fact: The Cards have a 113 wRC+ and .326 team wOBA vs. RHP, which is great, but their numbers against southpaws is even better (130 wRC+, 351 wOBA). So I’m geting exposure to Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, Tyler O’Neill Brendan Donovan, Tommy Edman and Albert Pujols.

Pitching Summary: I’m looking mainly toward Max Scherzer at SP1 and value play Austin Voth as my SP2, but could work in some shares of Robbie Ray and Dylan Cease in GPPs.
